Madeleine McCann: DNA Row, Blood And The Locator Fails To Locate

mccanns-arrive Madeleine McCann: DNA Row, Blood And The Locator Fails To LocateMADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann

DAILY MIRROR page 11: “McCANNS WON’T BE IN CLEAR BY CHRISTMAS”

So it won’t be over by Christmas, as the Express pointed to yesterday?

Portuguese police wants more DNA tests. They take three weeks to conclude. It’s December 6. A source says: “They hope new tests will clarify what happened around the time she went missing”

Will they?

DAILY EXPRESS page 23: “Madeleine: now ministers may block new police quiz”

Within the next 48, the McCanns will “know if the Government will let them face a new grilling”. The Portuguese prosecutor was “last night set to request permission from the Home Office to reinterview Kate and Gerry and their holiday dinner friends – known as the Tapas Nine”

Or the Sangria 7 – send in your suggestions to the usual address

The Express says the Portuguese are “wary” of British Government involvement”. Why? Because Gerry McCann sits on a Government medical advisory panel. He’s a “heart surgeon”. There is a “political shadow”. Gordon Brown called Gerry McCann. And there were yellow ribbons in the House of Commons

Says a source: “He has gone on to become Prime Minister and they are now suspects. That is an uncomfortable scenario for detectives involved in the case”

“Lab hits at detectives over DNA” – “A STORM has erupted”.

Portuguese police are said to be frustrated at the lack of progress by British DNA experts. UK experts says “unprofessional evidence gathering led to inconclusive tests”

THE SUN page 9: “MADDIE COPS ROW OVER RUINED DNA – Brit experts dismiss ‘blood’ evidence”

A row between British and Portuguese experts. In the Soaraway Sun, you feel there can be only one winner

Portuguese police “believed they found tiny specks of blood on an armchair and wall. They became convinced the specks were from four-year-old Madeleine”. So did the Mail, which at the time produced: “BLOOD ON THE WALL IN MADDY BEDROOM

But now it emerges the specs “were so contaminated they could not even be identified as blood”. And this led to a row. A heated debate

Says a source: “The Portuguese arrived demanding ‘Where are our results?’” – So rude. Not at all British

“BODYFINDER DRAWS BLANK” – Disappointing news for those pinning your hopes on Danie Krugel – aka The Locator - finding Madeleine McCann. His Matter Orientation System uses GPS technology and DNA samples. The McCanns gave him a hair from their daughter’s head. He went to work. But – shock of shocks -nothing. “I have done my best,” says Krugel

British police may care to reconsider their orders

DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “MADELEINE – PORTUGUESE POLICE ACCUSED IN DNA FIASCO”

Page 17: “Madeleine police ‘angry at DNA blunder claim” – Portuguese police are “furious” at being called “amateurish” by officials at the UK’s Forensic Science Service

There are “angry scenes”. A source says the Portuguese were “unhappy”

The tests feature microscopic spots of blood found at the Ocean Club apartment where Madeleine had been staying, bodily fluids and hair from the Renault Scenic hire car

DAILY MAIL page 41: “Maddie forensic experts clash with ‘unprofessional’ Portuguese”

“Portuguese police investigating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance are said to be furious after British scientists criticised the ‘unprofessional’ way in which they had collected forensic evidence. The Portuguese arrived with the attitude of, ‘OK, where are the findings we need?’

“The Forensic Science Service basically said there weren’t any and made it clear things could have been collected more professionally. That doesn’t mean there was a lot of evidence they failed to collect but what evidence there is was collected in a very amateurish way. The Portuguese took this badly. They were unhappy because there was implicit criticism of how they collected the evidence. There was a heated exchange of views”

DAILY STAR page 20: “Maddie parent’s in D-Day”

But November 29 was D-Day

Can this be E-Day, or in keeping with the Star’s central news plank, DD-Day

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith will read the letters sent by the Portuguese prosecutor requesting interviews with the McCanns and reply. She should not reply by post for obvious reasons

THE INDEPENDENT, THE GUARDIAN and THE TIMES: No Madeleine news today

Madeleine McCann in the news

  1. 1 Ian Says:

    Well well well

  2. 2 Ian Says:

    ..and the second?

  3. 3 Ian Says:

So we are soon to find out if the government (yes, we do apparently have one) will block a police investigation.

Does that mean we arent a police state? Well, not really, who runs the police?

  4. 4 SteveT Says:

    4th?

  5. 5 an observer Says:

    morning all.
    fourth?

let’s hope we see some real developments today

    Power to the PeeJay
Power to the PeeJay, right on

    Say we want a revelation
We better get on right away
Well you get on your feet
    And on the street

    Singing power to the PeeJay
    Power to the PeeJay
    Power to the PeeJay
Power to the PeeJay, right on

  6. 6 Ian Says:

This argument about the blood will be jumped on by Clarence with whoops of joy! Not, they didnt do it, but ‘It cant be proved - whoopee’! Funny, youd think they’d want to be proven not guilty rather than not proven either way.

Anyway, Im off - Im talking to myself, Ill be looking for an abductor next!

  7. 7 Tracy Says:

    Gerry for President

  8. 8 Sherlock Says:

Why did Sky News website remove the “MADELEINE” section from their navigation bar (left hand side of the screen)?

We need to keep the public aware… Madeleine was abducted and is still out there somewhere! Sky News website must continue helping the McCanns promoting the abduction theory, I mean help them finding madeleine.

    Very disappointing.

Justice is looking a definate option now.

  10. 10 SteveT Says:

    Sherlock

    Has someone abducted it?

  11. 11 trainer Says:

I would really stink if the government blocked the Mc’s going back to answer more questions..
But why would the Gov need to block anything, i thorght the Mc’s and their slimly PR voice have always said they were “happy to go back and answer any questions ? ” sorry that last statment has changed over last few weeks to “answer any questions that may help clear them” …

  12. 12 Sherlock Says:

All of today’s news fall in two categories:

    - recycled shite (if you want to know more about the alleged Moroccan who threatened to abduct a little girl in a portuguese village please visit gazeta digital. There you’ll find the article published in the portuguese press from May 07. The Sun just decided to copy it and re-publish it as news).

    - speculative shite (this all bollox about blood not being able to say it’s blood - about DNA etc.) it’s just the british tabloids starved of information (due to Clarence’s absence) and making things up. Everytime there was any “creative story” published in the Portuguese press some anoraks would quickly jump at the PJ saying that they were leaking information. What about now? Are the great Leicestershire police and FSS lab also leaking information?

i believe it has been sighted in morroco, or was it malta, or …
don’t worry metodo3 know whos got it :-)

  14. 14 Sherlock Says:

    11 Trainer
As I mentioned yesterday if the Minister blocks the interviews to the McCanns in British soil (which I don’t think that would happen), the portuguese prosecutor would just instruct them to come back to Portugal for further questionning.

Should they fail to come back to portugal, they would be in breach of their obligations as official suspects and the portuguese could then initiate a request for extradition that under international judicial cooperation agreements the british authorities would most likely have to comply with.

  15. 15 noseycow Says:

12 sherlock - you don’t think that the story about the row has been ‘invented’ do you?

    Surely not!

Who could POSSIBLY BENEFIT from such a story? ;)

  16. 16 Trismegistus Says:

    11 trainer…

Typical McCanntics… one story spun in the press while they do the exact opposite.

If they were planning on cooperating if asked to go back to Portugal, what for did they spend someone else’s money on a fancy extradition lawyer?

As usual, the whole thing is redolent of dirty nappies and rotting meat.

Metodo 3 have confirmed that they are close to finding it. They believe it is being kept safely with other Sky News banners.

Clarence Mitchell has blamed the PJ for losing it and has sited it as further evidence of their poor policing.

  18. 18 noseycow Says:

17 Steve - I hope it wasn’t left alone while the others went out drinking - after all its only 7 months old!!

It is believed that the other banners had been sedated by the abducter.

  20. 20 Trismegistus Says:

Say, what ever happened to the McCann’s lawsuit against that Portuguese paper for having the gall to publish that the police suspected them? How are they progressing defending themselves against those ludicrous lies?

  21. 21 noseycow Says:

19 - did anyone check or did they just leave them to sleep it off?

an un-named person speaking on behalf of the MC’s said they are sure that DNA evidence would prove the MC’s had nothing to do with its disappearance.

  23. 23 SteveT Says:

Martin Brunt was checking, but it appears that he has also been sedated for 6 months. IMO

  24. 24 noseycow Says:
