Madeleine McCann: Jonathan Ross, A Chorus Of Disapproval And Gerry McCann’s Phone Calls
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN page 21: “COPS HAD DEADLINE TO PUT McCANNS IN FRAME – Bid to beat new laws”
“Portuguese police rushed to name the McCanns as suspects to avoid new laws on evidence, it was claimed yesterday. Cops had to put Kate and Gerry in the frame over the disappearance of daughter Maddie, four, before a stricter penal code was bought in, their lawyer suggested. Had they waited just EIGHT days longer they would have had to produce strong evidence against the 39-year-olds”
Had Madeleine disappeared eight days later… What does everyone in the chorus think of that?
The Sun: “It is possible the McCanns would have avoided months of vicious slurs against them”
McCanns’ lawyer Carlos Pinto de Abreu: “If this inquiry was launched now, maybe they would not have been made arguidos”
A source “close to the McCanns”: “This was a deliberate smear campaign”
McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “Being made arguidos caused them immense anguish. To think they may have been saved by a law introduced days later makes a mockery of the case”
Chorus: Such are the facts…
DAILY MIRROR page 9: “McCann cops in suspect ‘smear’”
The McCanns were named official suspects on September 7. The new laws, calling for “firm evidence” before someone is named an arguido, came into force on September 15. A McCanns’ “source” calls it a “deliberate smear campaign”
DAILY EXPRESS page 11: “MADELEINE: DETECTIVES PROBE FATHER’S PHONE CALL TO FRIEND”
Police are looking at Gerry McCann’s phone calls and those of the Sangria 7, Tapas 9, Tapas Nine etc.
“They are said to be investigating a conversation between heart consultant Gerry, 39, and his friend Doctor Russell O’Brien, 36, one of the so-called Tapas Nine. It is claimed Gerry insisted he was within four kilometres of Praia da Luz when the pair had the conversation which took place on June 10, 38 days after Madeleine disappeared. But technicians claim to have discovered data which revealed Gerry made the call at a location 28 kilometres from the resort”
“McCann fury are conspiracy book” – Anorak calculates there have been 100 headlines talking of the McCanns’ “fury” since their daughter went missing
Today there is fury that Portuguese journalist Manuel Catriano has written The Guilt Of The McCanns, a book. It begins: “This story did not begin in the Ocean Club, but in London where the official truth was conspired and established: an English girl was kidnapped in the Algarve”
The McCanns live in Leicestershire – not London. Senor Catriano should go back and check his research
THE STAR front page: “MADDIE: SHOCK NEW MOBILE CLUE – Phone trace leads to bloodied barn”
“A breakthrough” and “shocking mobile phone evidence”
“Detectives have been studying records of conversations between parents Kate and Gerry, both 39, and their holiday dinner pals – the so-called Tapas Seven” – Or Tapas Nine…
“And forensic experts are now said to be examining a blood-stained towel found close to a disused barn at a remote location some distance from Praia da Luz. Last night sources close to the investigation said the analysis had led to a ‘big development’”
The towel police found a few days ago..?
DAILY MAIL page 49: “Police ‘made’ the McCanns suspects to beat law changes”
Says Senor de Abreu: “After September 15, a new procedural penal code was introduced making it necessary for there to be evidence against the citizen to make him an arguido”
Clarence Williams says: “If it is true that changes to the law would have meant that they would not have been made arguidos that’s all the reason for their status to be dropped now”
THE GUARDIAN comments pages: “Front-page thrillers - The hyper-reality of fiction techniques has transformed the way we consume the news”
Writes Mark Lawson:
“The news has become a kind of super-fiction, in which one unlikely and inexplicable yarn after another - The Portugal Child, The Perugia Murder, The Deadly Teddy Bear, The Secret Donor, The Panamanian Canoeist - play out across newspaper pages.
“The suggestion that journalism has become more like fiction is a pretty ancient insult but, in the past, was used to accuse reporters of fabrication. Now, though, something deeper and weirder frequently occurs in which, even when facts are accurately reported, they seem, in the proper sense of the word, fabulous. Whereas most news stories follow a grimly recognisable narrative - the sex murder, the drive-by shooting, the inflated expenses claim - recent real-life plots are dense, messy and seemingly insoluble in a way that usually requires the manipulations of a novelist”
Page 7: “Teddy jokes to the fore at comedy awards”
To the back-slapping British comedy awards. Whooo! Yeah!
Jonathan Ross “also made references to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, saying the awards this year had been vetted with the same forensic attention as a ‘Portuguese police investigation’, and actor Chris Langham’s conviction for downloading child porn”
And the award for more laboured joke goes to…
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 17: Have you heard the one about Jonathan Ross, the joke writers and Madeleine McCann?
THE SCOTSMAN: Vicky Hamilton has been buried. She was allegedly murdered by Pete Tobin.
Kate and Gerry McCann wrote to Vicky Brown’s father, saying: ‘We have great empathy with your family and our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. We obviously understand the torment of having a child go missing, like Vicky did all those years ago, and our deepest sympathy goes out to you”
Says Mrs Brown said: “I am just so touched by this message from Mr and Mrs McCann.
To take the time to support my family when their own daughter is still missing says a lot about how caring they obviously are”
THE TIMES and THE INDEPENDENT: No Madeleine news today

Why is it we keep hearing about all this suspicious text messaging between the mccanns and their other tapas mates…but nothing comes from it??? surely there is enough evidence to charge them and let a jury decide. either way i hope their life is now ruined. can you imagine those poor little twin siblings a few years down the track…the taunting at school they will receive from other children…it is a shame and a tragedy that they too have to suffer …and for the rest of their lives!

Looking at the piocture at the head of this item I can’t help but wonder what the McScams are saying to each other about the poster….
Gerry : - ” ….a little more to the left do you think Kate ? ”
or Kate :- ” … should have been one of me on there too…”

To profile the McCann’s :it is doubtful they would seek solace in anything transcendental…They are of this world not the other….To believe they would submit to anything that would compromise them is sheer fantasy.
The clergy does not fit into this profile.

Cheryl - 1087 - Pre-judging? Regardless of the outcome of the Missing child case - what in God’s name has Gerry McCann done to be nominated as Scot of the Year? If he had not neglected his kids, nobody would have heard of Gerry McCann, and the fact that he did neglect his kids and one of them through this neglect has somehow or other (be it with the involvement of the McCanns directly or indirectly through neglectfully leaving them alone) has gone missing - does not constitute being raised through the ranks to be nominated as Scot of the Year. As I said earlier - there must be a real shortage of Scots who have done anything worthwhile if among the dozen or so nominations Gerry McCann figures. So cummon Cheryl - tell me what has he done to justify his nomination, apart from being born in Scotland? Neglected his kids (proved beyond doubt) Anything else is mere speculation - so go on tell me - why has he been nominated. Maybe being from England I have not an inclin. as to the thinking of the Scots. Please enlighten me so that when the nominations are asked for - maybe for the English person of the year - I shall be able to vote with confidence. Now then, lets throw a few names into the hat!!??

Just for a point of interest….
The priest is NOT allowed to give any information (especially if it was in the confessional) that Kate and Gerry McCann would have shared with him - the information (if any was given) is between God, the priest and Kate or Gerry McCann. If the priest did at anytime devulge any information, he would be ex-communicated by the church and my dears, it just is not done…. As a matter of fact, I would think the priest (like many journalists) would probably choose to go to jail. If the Portugal police are Catholic, they would be very aware of this.

Thank you Totje for your comment.
I have been thinking about all the help which K and G M allegedly received from both business and political people. If it happened in my country, some would wonder whether they are freemasons. Though most freemasons are genuinely concerned with ethics, some have been known for interfering with the course of justice to their own advantage or to the advantage of fellow freemasons (fact not rumor). Their clout is strong because it is hidden therefore unknown to the public. And they”ll come to the rescue of another freemason whenever needed. Yet, most freemasons aren’t religious, far from it. There again, we can only surmise, for lack of knowledge.
Personnally, it’s true I don’t want to cast a stone at anyone, but I also want to know who is on the right side, because I have been disturbed by the unbelievable openly displayed xenophoby.

Another point is the business of the Home Secretary deciding whether the McCanns may be re-interviewed by the Portuguese police. It is known that the McCann family are Labour Party members and activists, with political clout. Surely the Home Office ought to disqualify themselves from making the call on this one, and hand it straight over to the Judiciary?
If the Home Office permits the re-interviews, then the McCanns can claim that the Government was trying to prove its even-handedness (a common charge against this government, of course ;)) . If the Home Office denies the re-interviews then the public can wonder whether the Government is “protecting its own”. Hand it over to Judge John Deede!

From The Scotsman…. “Scots tycoon attacks ’scurrilous allegations’ as he comes out as McCanns’ secret funder”
http://news.scotsman.com/scotland.cfm?id=1914972007
Why are all these millionaires queueing up to pay hundreds of thousands of pounds to the McCanns? Something is very, very, fishy about these payments. Has there been any explanation - if so, is it straightforward or something to do with Labour Party politics, yet again?

“Hideki, I do feel that your comments would carry more weight if you had bothered to find and read the essay before your original comments. ”
Not sure what you mean by my “original comments” In post 231 I wrote:
“I’ve also never read the full Anne Enright essay, but only excerpts, which I thought foolish-sounding. I wondered why she wrote that she would wake up in the morning once again believing the McCanns… I cannot give much credibility to anyone who wrote that, but as I said I did not get the context of the whole essay.”
I certainly did not intend for those comments to “carry any weight” at all — those are just my impressions of the excerpts published in news articles.
“And Anne Enright is not a journalist; she’s a novelist primarily fascinated by the extraordinary language used by the English participants in this case.Nobody paid any attention to that essay until Anne Enright won the Man Booker prize, whereupon assorted journos googled her and found her essay in the London Review of Books…”
I appreciate your providing the background.

“Hideki,I think that perhaps you’ve misinterpreted the AE piece. It was, in fact, a clever and very Irish essay about the way people gossip about this issue - sometimes exaggerating, sometimes totally convinced, but always mystified and needing to talk about it constantly, much as we all are and do.The last line is, of course, facetious and throw-away.”
Thank you for explaining. I think I did misinterpret it, and will try reading it more carefully. The first time I was put off by the style.

“#IGNORE”
That you are ignoring the points I raised is not new information. Back in post 531, you ignored them when your sole remark was the very useful: “Hideki – Could you assist me please? Stand up when talking/typing. Your voice is muffled.” This followed your remark in post 178 : “No idea what point you’re trying to make Hideki?” followed by the ridiculous, unsubstantiated assertion:
“Lot’s of people here and elsewhere publish stories about the operation/existence if paedophile rings juxtaposed with Madeleine’s disappearance as “proof” that because one exists, the paedophile rings, that the latter, Madeleine, must therefore have been abducted by one.”
which turns out to mean nothing other than that Team McCann urgently wants the world to believe a paedophile ring is involved, even though they have not presented a single reason why they know this to be so. The McCanns have influenced the media and used Metodo3 to peddle this story to the public.
I think you DO have an idea what point I am making, Peter O, and that’s why you choose to ignore it. Good for you.

Well, at this point, I think my Sober Husband has had too much to drink for a change to explain it to you. He is hiccuping and saying, “Kristen, I’m really not interested in this game.”
I don’t know, it’s related to Tony Bennet’s theory of the Very Strange lack of agreement in Madeleine birth date, etc. Ask me tomorrow, when this damned Apple Cider is out of my system.
December 8th, 2007 at 7:21 am
Kris: can you send me some of that s*** cider you’re drinking?
December 8th, 2007 at 7:20 am
Oh lordie, and this is going to probably get both the Sober Husband, and the Drunk Kris, banned from Anorak, forevermore, but I have to ask (upon reading some other articles here) … Dear god, who WRITES this shit??Even the headlines are so repetitive it makes your eyes blur over! They seem to think they are clever? NO one, so far as I’ve seen, has dared to make this suggestion:
June Johnson killed Madeleine to cover up for her REALLY BAD WRITING.
December 8th, 2007 at 7:10 am
Kris: I’ll go for the clone theory. Is it part of the Dodi/Pregnancy thing? I got confused by all the flashbulbs going off in the tunnel to notice?
December 8th, 2007 at 7:00 am
And I will have you know, it was my husband — who is 100 percent sober a remarkable number of days of each and every year, dare I say 350 to 355 — who suggested that Madeleine was a CLONE.
And infact, it was this very same person (my husband) who suggested she was a clone of… (dum-da-dum)
dare I suggest it…
Princess Diana.
My Very Sober Husband insisted several weeks ago that I suggest this possibility to you good people of Anorak. I told him, time and again, he was a fool to think you would fall for it.
“Husband,” I said, “These people are educated and thoughtful and some of them have read thousands of pages of Madeleine news. In addition, they are in the majority British! None of them will take this thought seriously!”
But, he said, “Stevo might!”
“No,” I said, “Stevo might think Madeleine was in fact Baby Grace, but he would not dare to go so far as to think Madeleine was in fact Princess Diana reincarnated by Clonal Mechanisms.”
Well.
He didn’t stay up to argue his point, and after declaring my Apple Cider “acceptable if you chill it”, he has gone to bed!! The nerve!!!

GM nomination for Scotsman “man of the year”.
Cheryl REPLY: Could it simply mean they are not prejudging him?
You are, I hope, fucking joking?
Has the weight of UK ‘opinion’ sunk so low as to think that a man, suspect in a foreign death/disappearance, with so much public and press opprobrium, should be considered for such an ‘award’?
I think you guys obviously DO deserve 90mph gales, rising house prices, expensive fruit & veg, and Gordon Brown.

It’s the funniest thing- we ended up with this new dog over the past week (an injured stray ) and I think despite the insistence from our various children that he be named:
Spot
Garth
Chainsaw
Cabbage Patch Naddatch
Speckles
Freckles
Rainbow Lily Tulip
Poophead
Christmas
Tree Bone
Santa Claus
Kimchi
Henry
I think I have named him: PICKLES.
In honor of the weird psychic Christine’s name for Madeleine’s imaginary pet.
My husband says: No, just PICKLE.
No plural.
December 8th, 2007 at 6:33 am
My god. Madeleine is STILL fucking missing? You have to be kidding me.
Well, in the meantime, my darling, curly-headed, husband and I are trying out a new wine this evening. I suppose it’s not really a wine– it’s a hard cider. This, you see, is the problem with me this autumn — for the first time ever, we’ve attempted to make these fruit wines (on the fly)… so we have the Chokecherry, the Wild Plum, and the Apple Cider. Fifteen gallons of booze. Lord help us, especially me, since my husband does not particularly care for drunkeness, in fact, he quits after a half-glass.
The results so far are mixed:
The plum wine tastes absolutely marvelous; however, it has an alcohol content less than Utah. This wine is nearly gone and causes me to fall asleep at an appropriate hour.
The chokecherry wine tastes like a nasty Russian Vodka, but its alcohol content is so high, a single glass turns me into a slobbering idiot.
So tonight we tried the apple cider (earlier of course than we intended — I swore I’d leave it until February). The cider is from our apple trees, carefully pressed into juice in late October. And the cider is actually somewhat tasteless (let’s say piss, minus the flavor) to my tongue but lusciously light (let’s say honey-wine) to my husband’s tongue. And after 2.5 glasses tonight I’m putting it somewhere closer to the Chokecherry on the alcohol scale.
I haven’t been reading this site in days, yet I see Madeleine has not yet been found and no one can still tell me, definitely, whether she was abducted or killed in cold blood by her parents.
I’m wondering what has actually changed in the meantime. Anything at all?

Peter O Says:
“Hideki – Could you assist me please? Stand up when talking/typing. Your voice is muffled.”
Oh, really? Yours is now barely a murmur. No wonder.
First you claim that “lots of people, here and elsewhere” are blaming a paedophile simply because paedophiles exist. Then it turns out that what you REALLY mean is that the McCanns are THE ONLY ONES WHO WANT THE WHOLE WORLD TO BELIEVE that a paedophile snuck into the apartment.
Despite their extraordinary insistence on this scenario, the McCanns give us NO REASON WHATSOEVER to believe it.
Now from this, we can conclude that the McCanns (and all on their team) are utterly DAFT, or we can conclude that they DO INDEED HAVE A REASON for “knowing” so resolutely that a paedophile is responsible.
Assuming they do know something and thus have a reaon, we can then ask WHY ARE THEY HIDING THIS KNOWLEDGE? Why will they NOT tell us the reason they so strongly suspect a paedophile?
Now, with the PJ scenario published by Publico, we can understand why the police do not want to disclose all that they know (about psychological profile, factual details, etc). However, the McCanns are SUSPECTS. Hiding knowledge makes them more suspicious.
To put it bluntly , they are SUSPECTS who seem to KNOW something about paedophile networks that leads them to believe a paedophile is responsible for the disappearance of their child. And yet they won’t say what it is they know!
Now, back to your own little cloaked opinion, that “lots of people, here and elsewhere” are blaming a paedophile simply because paedophiles exist. It is an opinion that attempts to hide the GLARING fact that the McCanns are the ones blaming a paedophile.
I hope you are no longer having trouble seeing my point, which has been crystal clear for some time now.

Totje Says:
“242: Hideki suffocated by an intruder and blood????? Very intelligent!”
That is why I suggested that the “suffocation” element was a deliberate substitution by the PJ for something else — either bleeding due to physical trauma (blow to head, sexual abuse, etc) or due to emergency medical procedure.
The other possible deliberate substitution I suggested is “before” for “after” — that is, that the girl died AFTER the paedophile intruder molested her, not before.
