Madeleine McCann: 4650 Articles, Christian Ridout Was Here And Lawless Morocco
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: Poster blitz in Morocco”
“More than 11,000 letters and posters have been distributed in remote parts of the North African country to jog the memory of someone who may have seen the little girl”
A spokesman says: “E-mail is great within larger towns and cities, but there are still a lot of people who do not have Madeleine’s picture or the phone contact details to report sightings or information”
Do you have Madeleine’s picture? Do you know the phone number?
DAILY MAIL: “Letter blitz on remote Moroccan mountain villages that Madeleine McCann campaign cannot reach”
“Agents [of Metodo 3] have distributed photographs of the little girl with an appeal in French and Arabic to call with information about her whereabouts. But it has proved difficult to reach all of the isolated communities where a child could have been taken, many of which are in lawless, mountainous regions”
Those lawless Moroccans…
“Madeleine: Private detectives hunt for British barman known as DJ Shifty, accused of grooming an under-age girl for sex”
“Part-time barman and disc jockey Christian Ridout, 32, allegedly sent the British girl obscene text messages when he worked in an expats’ pub 200 yards from where Madeleine disappeared. When the 12-year-old’s mother discovered the explicit messages, Ridout - also known as DJ Shifty - left Portugal in a hurry”
A suspect?
Says the paper: “By coincidence, the Ridout family were next-door neighbours of the family of Robert Murat, the chief suspect in the Madeleine hunt, when the Murats lived in the nearby village of Almadena. The night after Madeleine went missing, a British expat walked into the Plough and Harrow pub in Praia da Luz, still owned by his parents Tony, 57, and Jill, 58, and asked: ‘Where’s Christian then?’ Locals have disparagingly nicknamed the pub ‘The Plough and Paedophile‘ and the missing man is widely disliked in the tight-knit community”
So where is Christian? Well, he left Praia da Luz a few years ago. His mother says she has not seen him for two years. Says the girl’s mother: “I went in to see them just before Madeleine disappeared and they confirmed they’re still looking for him. ‘No one knows where he is, but he could have been back to this area”
Or not…
THE SUN front page: “Publicity blitz for Maddie in Africa”
“Many still don’t recognise her”
Help make Madeleine McCann the world’s most recognisable face
“Despite a massive campaign highlighting the seven-month search for their daughter, experts believe many in the north African country still lack the crucial information they need to help trace her”
Many?
“Now a silent army of volunteers from the Helping To Find Madeleine campaign have given their time over the festive period to flood businesses across the nation with 11,500 letters and posters”
Not so silent
“The initiative comes after the McCanns’ Spanish detective agency pin-pointed Morocco as the most likely place little Maddie may have been taken”
Can you pinpoint a “likely place” to an entire nation? Is this detective work or guesswork?
Kate and Gerry McCann are “doctors”. Fact
Kate pins on badge of hope: “ANGUISHED Kate McCann returned to church yesterday – with a badge of hope bearing a picture of missing Madeleine pinned close to her heart”
A new merchandise push?
One “worshipper” at Kate’s church says: “Every mother wants to cuddle her children at Christmas – it’s heartbreaking that Kate has been denied that. The badge is a symbol of hope that could help focus new eyes on the hunt for Madeleine”
“347 new Maddie calls combed” - The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell says: “We are pleased with the calls and they are continuing to come in. Every single call is much appreciated and we are going through them with a fine-tooth comb. Any that need to be acted upon swiftly are being acted upon swiftly. We don’t go into detail because if there is any significant information”
DAILY STAR: “TECS: MADDIE BEING HELD IN MOROCCO”
“More than 11,500 posters appealing for information about the youngster have been sent out to the furthest reaches of the north African country”
Francisco Marco, the PI hired by the McCanns, says: “Morocco is the perfect place to hide a kidnapped girl”. He has said this before. Is Morocco the perfect place? Why not Algeria? Or Malta?
DAILY RECORD: “Maddie Poster Blitz In Morocco”
“Schools, supermarkets and medical centres are being blitzed with thousands of photos of the missing four-year-old. And letters written in French and Arabic are being sent to towns and villages in the most remote parts of the country”
Madeleine in Morocco. Or not. Again… Isabel Gonzalez saw her. Mari Pollard saw her
Clarence Mitchell says: “Anyone who puts effort into assisting us in any way, we are incredibly grateful for, and it sounds like they have done a fantastic job. I have no doubt that it is this kind of effort and initiatives that will lead us to finding Madeleine”
Gerry and Kate McCann are “doctors”
THE GUARDIAN: “From Mr Bean to Shambo the bull, the media obsessions of 2007”
A review: “Almost nine months after she vanished, we know a lot about Madeleine McCann and her family. We know the legal implications of being named an official suspect in a Portuguese criminal investigation. What we do not know is who took her, if she is alive and whether any trace of her will ever be found again. A total of 4,650 articles have appeared in British newspapers since she disappeared on May 3”
THE SCOTSMAN: “Madness, badness, hate and heroism - Robert McNeil continues his unique take on the events of 2007 with a look back at the second three months of the year…”
“Hell also visited the parents of three-year-old Madeleine McCann on 3 May when the toddler disappeared from their holiday apartment in the Algarve. In the ensuing months, Kate and Gerry McCann used the media to keep the case in the public eye. The Portuguese police did the same, but their efforts were directed more at casting doubts on the McCanns and their friends. Supposed sightings of Madeleine were reported periodically, but each time hopes were dashed”
THE TIMES: “Hundreds ring hotline after Madeleine plea”
Yesterday in the latest entry on his internet diary, Mr McCann wrote: “Madeleine should not be spending Christmas away from her loving family. The person who took her has it in their power to end our suffering and will be able to appease their conscience that they have done the right thing – especially at this time of year. Kate and I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to write to us and let us know Madeleine and our family are still in their thoughts and prayers. We still have at least one hundred cards to open! As always, every single one will be read and the support expressed helps renew our determination to find Madeleine”
The story, speculation and sensation…

You seem to imply that because a person had difficulty in coming to terms with the dietary needs of their first child (and many children exhibit bizarre eating habits when quite young), that this same person has no right to express an opinion, in later years. on what they now perceive to be a dangerous diet, with too many fizzy drinks and E numbers etc, when clearly they have the benefit of hindsight.
This is not to condemn parents who do not understand how such food and drink can hype their children to an uncontrollable level, but merely to wish the problem was more widely understood.

They may be guilty of more than just neglect - I don’t think so but I could well be wrong. However, if they are they are entitled to a fair trial, not a kangaroo court that is being conducted on here.
Frankly, if they are not guilty I would love to see them ‘have their day in court…!!!’

Ah ! slight problem with the “send” button there I fear, well thank you so much for your kind words May, Resident Grandson, Best-Beloved and I have a very good relationship I am happy to say and we are well able to speak about things frankly and openly and I was gratified to hear him say that he can see the difference between how he has been brought up and the way his mates have and says it must come from having older “parents” who have values from a different era. That was nice as was the fact that he says he still gets cold moments when he wonders what would have happened to him if his Mother had been allowed to just “give him away to strangers” as she was going to, and is consequently fiercely loyal to us because he also knows that Best-Beloved is not even his blood kin and therefore what he has done in supporting and caring for him is probably far more worthy of praise than what I have done, which I did because no Grandchild of mine was going to end up in “the system” if I could help it.
Trumpet-blowing time…….Granddaughter-who-lives-in -the-village recently said she was talking about Grandparents with her “homies” and said she told them that her Nan ( c’est moi) was nothing like theirs, she said “…my Nan’s legend !! ” That actually counteracts all the nasty comments made about my being a rubbish parent and casting aspersions on the way I brought my kids up from such ….people….as ‘I-don’t-believe-the’ et al.

I should leave this out but for the moment I am not going to….
Just see here what damage the wrong phraseology can do, for ..” Ann admitted she drugged her own child to sleep “…. read instead ” I gave him a mild sedative prescribed by the Doctor”..totally different connotation.
And pray do tell, what criminal act did I perform whenI called my son a “mini-monster” ?? I didn’t tell HIM that !! I have heard kids called far worse, and to their faces, by a spittle-dribbling ranting moron which called itself “parent” by the virtue of the fact that it gave physical birth to the child, gentle phrases like “…you fucking ‘orrible little bastard ” words which would appear to imply early sexual activity and the lack of a known father amongst other things.

I blame Alan Pike for all this madness. He’s the psychologist who told the McCanns that they could control the situation and not to speculate that Madeleine is dead. Idiot.
Positive thinking is great when you want to start a business, it’s totally useless if a paedophile has kidnapped your daughter.

But what was your point, Cheryl? It got lost in your idiotic rambling. Was y our point that you did not sedate and kill your sister’s children? Neither did your sister? Wow, what a great family you have! Superior to the McCanns, anyway.

They’re trying to make you think if a newspaper statement is relevant or not.
The press constantly refer to the McCanns as doctors, even though we all know by now that they are, to reinforce how middle class and respectable they are - which in England matters.

1059- Karen. Yes. I know that. And my complaint is that they really do not much of a job in that regard, either- - they pick and choose their paragraphs (which is to be expected) but don’t tell us much about why, except empty comments like , “Oh really?” or “A suspect?” or, “Doctors?”
I never know what their point is. For instance, they seem to be constantly commenting about how the media reports that Kate and Gerry are “doctors”, and they do so by saying, “The article called them both “doctors” (always in quotes).
So far as I know, this is TRUE– Kate and Gerry were both doctors — although of different levels/types/abilities. So why do Anorak writers seem to be making an issue of the newspapers calling them doctors? I have no idea. There are a dozen such examples.
To me, it seems like the Anorak folk do a whole hell of a lot of amazing work, though t hrough dozens and dozens of websites and posting what they wrote here (or the most important of what they wrote here), and so I am questioniong why they don’t get someone with insight/humor to do the little commentaires on the end. right now they are pointless and only add to the confusion.

No, 1056 Karen, I can’t particularly blame Anorak for that, but I can blame Anorak for other things. For instance: Ghastly poor writing. I mean, there is SO much more they could say and do on the Madeleine case. But instead they add these four-word cynicisms on the end of news articles which are irritating way before they are educational or thoughtful. I credit them with doing a great job gathering news articles, and for allowing us to express ourselves relatively uncensored, but they do a really crap-ass job commenting on the Madeleine case. I get really frustrated with the daily Satire, which is never clear about who’s saying what, or why…

Ann, reading your posts in more depth: GOOD for you, mama! You’ve obviously done a great job with your kid. My kids are young and fortunately show no signs of this yet, but I have close friend with ADHD kid and it is HARD WORK. As I am sure you know. Sounds like your kid is turning out terrific. I think kids like this (with ADHD and even *mild* autism or Aspergers) are more creative and beautifully intelligent, if their parents allow them to be. It just takes tolerance of the individuals, which we are not so prone to accepting, in our society.

If he’s only a little depressed then you shouldn’t really have mentioned it, giving everyone the impression he’s suffering from religious mania.
And how many animals get slagged off on an internet site? Or did I miss the bit where the McCanns were shot with an air rifle, trained to herd sheep or sent off to the slaughter house?
Nothing in the real world has happened to them except Madeleine going missing from their unlocked apartment, massive media coverage fuelled by their P.R. team and being made suspects and you can hardly blame anorak for that.

Don’t the 12 days of Christmas start on the solstice, which would make christmas over on, umm, Jan 5 or whatever the Kings Day holiday is (when I was in France we at the Kings Cake, I can’t remember the date). In that case we are getting close to it all being FINISHED. Good god, I hate this time of year. I read recently that the ancient Celts belived the sun stood absolutely still for (aha!), 12 days, this time of year, and it sure as heck seems like it. But surely the chickens will start laying again soon!
Meanwhile, Madeleine still missing. My hope is gone for her turning up alive, I admit. Won’t it be nice when we finally know what happened. I hope the McCanns kept a merry jolly Christmas for the sake of the twins.
December 28th, 2007 at 3:48 am
1045- Ann - There is increasing evidence that ADHD is simply :
A) A dietary issue (as I’m sure you know, but it probably goes much deeper than you know) and B) A passing phase. I know ADHD is really difficult to live with, but there is increasing scientific evidence that it is not really a lasting problem in a kid with a more-or-less normal home life , whose family puts school as a top priority. The latest study I saw along those lines, last week, showed that ADHD kids diagnosed around age 5-7 did just as well with grades and intelligence as their non-ADHD peers, by age 18.
I think the big problem is this rush to medicate all these kids, who, frankly, need to express themselves in certain ways which makes our society uncomfortable.

Why do you think that they are innocent of any involvement?
………………….
Too late to0 reply now, I’m off to bed shortly, however, I will say that I don’t really know whether the McCanns are innocent or guilty. I believe it’s for the police to judge that, not us as we simply don’t have sufficient information to use as the basis for a judgment.
I know that the Portuguese police have been far from clever in this case, but there’s not much that can be done about that now and there is nothing that we can do to put their early mistakes right.
My gut feeling is that the McCanns have not harmed Madeleine or their other children. Yes, they made a dreadful error of judgment in leaving the children on their own and Madeleine and her parents have paid a horrendous price for that, however I do believe that they will go on paying for that for the rest of their lives. They will punish themselves far more than any justice system could ever punish them. People on forums all over the internet are punishing them too. I sympathise with them as I believe they are in living hell. Mrs McCann has aged 10 years since Madeleine went missing and Mr McCann looks as though he’s in hell too.
Nosy Cow said: is my questioning really prejudicing their right to a fair trial?
I’m not sure, nc, I can’t remember your questions so perhaps they weren’t too bad. It’s not just the questions, it’s the dreadful comments that some people are making here. The McCanns are people, yet surely we treat our animals better than we’ve treated them.
