Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat Denies, No Trial And Back To Portugal

poster Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat Denies, No Trial And Back To PortugalMADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.

DAILY MIRROR front page: “McCANNS: WE’LL GO BACK. They fear Portugal has forgotten Madeleine”

The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell says: “We’ve said they would go back if it would help the investigation”

Could their return hinder the investigation?

Page 5: “WE CAN’T LET THEM FORGET MADELEINE – McCanns want case back in news”

Kate and Gerry McCann were “devastated” to learn posters featuring their daughter had been removed from walls and shops in Praia da Luz

To keep her in the news over there they will return to the country. Says Clarence Mitchell: “At the moment we just want to concentrate on getting the arguido status lifted. If it was lifted we would review everything”

So why the front-page headline? What has changed? What is news?

Says Clarence Mitchell: “They’ve friends there, there are religious sites they’d like to visit and of course there is the link with Madeleine and the need to keep her disappearance in people’s minds” - They need to go site seeing?

THE SUN page 29: “McCANNS’ LAST-DITCH RETURN TO PORTUGAL – Kate and Gerry will go back for Maddie hunt”

If they are cleared

DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – Are parents going back to Portugal?”

Well, they will if …

Page 9: “McCanns’ Portugal trip ‘too boost Madeleine hunt’” – Gerry and Kate McCann are “desperate”, “terrified” and “convinced” Madeleine’s kidnapper may try to move her with the “focus died down”

But has it died down? Over 11,000 posters appealing for help have been sent to Morocco. Can’t more posters be sent to Portugal?

“SISTERS’ CLAIM ALL LIES, INSISTS MURAT MOTHER” - Annie Wiltshire and Jayne Jensen say they saw Murat out on the night Madeleine vanished. Not so, says Jennifer Murat

DAILY STAR page 15: “I DIDN’T DO IT – MURAT DENIES MADDIE WITNESS CLAIMS”

Annie Wiltshire and Jayne Jensen say they saw Murat out on the night Madeleine vanished. Not so, says he

Says his lawyer Francisco Pagarette: “Robert will never have to prove he is innocent…If they cannot find evidence there will be no trial”

DAILY MAIL front page: “MADELEINE – Sisters saw mystery men on balcony the day she vanished”

Pages 8 and 9: “Madeleine, Murat and mystery of two blond men on a balcony”

Jayne Jensen (blonde) and Annie Wiltshire (red head) are pictured. Both are “divorcees”. Both are posing for the cameras. They are talking not to the police or Metodo 3 but to the Mail, in an exclusive

This is their “dramatic account of a pair of strangers watching the Ocean Club pool and tapas bar hours before Madeleine McCann vanished”

Well: “They saw two blond men in their 30s, standing on the balcony of an empty apartment only a couple of doors away from the McCanns’ flat in Praia da Luz”

And: “The pair, tanned and in Bermuda shorts, were standing outside the patio doors of a groundfloor apartment, which had been unoccupied all week, and were looking out over the resort’s family swimming pool and restaurant area”

Bermuda shorts, eh

Says Annie wTilshire (gypsy skirt, cardigan and blouse): “They had a view of the whole Ocean Club and the McCanns’ apartment. It just showed how easy it would be for anyone to use those balconies to watch the area. It has haunted me ever since”

“We never met Kate,” Mrs Jensen says. “And we never socialised with Gerry. We just played tennis”

More facts

They looked for Madeleine. They claim to have seen Murat smoking a cigarette in the area

“WHY KATE WANTS TO GO BACK TO PORTUGAL” - A friend says: “If they were to go to Portugal now it would seem like they were trying to put pressure on the police, and they don’t want that”

The McCanns have hired private detectives…

I am repeating a comment here that I posted on the previous thread this morning in case it gets ‘missed’

    Hideki/Peter O

You have both made valuable contributions to the various threads regarding the McCanns and Madeleine with often insightful comments and careful analysis.

However, you have let yourselves become sidetracked into a personal tit for tat that adds nothing to the debate.

I am bored to tears now reading your posts calling each other ‘liar’ stemming from a post upon which the Moderators have already taken action. It is time to stop repeatedly harking back and move on. Hideki, I have moved several posts from you this morning which have repeatedly retuned to this issue into moderation and I will continue to do so with any more posts in similar vein (they may well be returned after a decision by Admin). I will also move any posts from Peter O which also seek to return to this same topic into moderation queue for consideration.

It is almost 2008 - a new year, and a new beginning. Time to make a fresh start. Time perhaps for you both to move on.

  3. 3 Swannie Says:

    Quote from ‘The Daily Mail’:

“Mrs Jensen and her sister were in the same daily tennis coaching group as Mr McCann. It was organised by Mark Warner, the tour operator which manages the Ocean Club complex.”

(Question – but isn’t it now being claimed (since comments about ‘the missing blue bag’ made an appearance in the press) that Gerry DIDN’T play much tennis???)

“On the evening of May 3, the sisters ate in the same tapas restaurant as the McCann party.
Neither of them remembers the doctors being rowdy or drinking heavily that night, as other witnesses have suggested.”

(Question – but hasn’t it been said, including by Gerry himself, that the Tapas 9 were the ONLY people dining in the tapas bar that night – hence all the jokes about the quiz being boring, since only one table were there to participate???)

10 tips for all holidaymakers who do not wish to be suspicious:

    1) NEVER book an apartment with a balcony.
    2) If the apartment has a balcony, NEVER go out on it.
    3) If you do happen to find yourself out on the balcony, NEVER look down at the swimming pool and wear blinkers to avoid sideways glances at other nearby apartments.
    4) NEVER wear bermuda shorts – even if you are on holiday.
    5) NEVER let the sun tan your skin or bleach your hair.
    6) NEVER go on holiday if you are in your 30s.
    7) NEVER go on holiday with someone of the same sex – well, unless you are females.
    8) NEVER arrive at your apartment on a mid-week flight that is different to other holidaymakers – especially if the apartment was previously unoccupied.
    9) NEVER avoid joining in with all the tennis sessions that are available.
    10) NEVER allow yourself to be in binocular- range of two frustrated female divorcees.

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Which apartment, and where was its location relative to the McCanns’ apartment?

    DuncanR:

“Hideki, I have moved several posts from you this morning which have repeatedly retuned to this issue into moderation…”

Fine with me, but it’s not correct that my posts were “returning to the issue” — those posts were REPLIES to posts that had returned to the issue. I had wanted to drop the issue long ago. But someone kept bringing it up in every single thread, despite the my posted comments pertaining to wholly different issues (such as the 2 sisters’ testimony in the previous thread and in this current thread).

    “I am bored to tears…”

I was bored with it long ago. Hopefully the issue will not be raised any more. It’s more interesting to speculate on why the two sisters have only now gone to the press. I assume they must have told the police what they witnessed back in May 2007. Why do they wait until it is nearly 2008 before telling the media about these 2 men? And why doesn’t the media even bother to specify what apartment and what balcony the two sisters are talking about? I was guessing that it is 5c, but they mention that it has a view of the McCanns’ apartment. Didn’t Bridget O’Donnell mention that they could see the McCanns’ apartment from their own 4th floor balcony?

    QUOTE

    Leaving children at home

A babysitting course can help prepare older siblings
for looking after young ones (NOTE from IAN:4 year old babysitters?:END NOTE)

Parents often wonder when it is safe to leave a child unsupervised at home, or at what age an older child can babysit a younger one.

    What does the law say?

English law does not specify an age when a child can be left unsupervised. However, parents may be prosecuted for neglect if they leave a child alone “in a manner which is likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health” (Children and Young Persons Act, 1933).

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) advises that no child should be left alone under the age of twelve, or overnight under the age of sixteen. Even a short stretch without a parent or another adult around can be distressing and lonely for a young child. Most eight to thirteen year olds, even if they feel happy about being left, may not be ready to cope in an emergency.

Can I leave my baby alone for a short while?

Never leave a baby or toddler alone, even for a few minutes. There are many dangers in a house for an unsupervised child. Leaving a child who is asleep is not a good idea, either - he may wake up and try to come looking for you. Also, being alone in the dark can be terrifying for a small child.

    What about older children?

Age alone is not a sufficient guide as to when children can be safely left at home. Some children over twelve may seem mature enough, but may not be able to cope in the event of an emergency.

    ENDQUOTE

The last line is incredible isnt it, ‘Children over 12 may seem mature enough’ - no mention of 4 YEAR OLDS!!

Why doesnt the SUN and TIMES and MAIL etc print THIS!!!

I have been trying to get a message to you have youreceived this information ?

G Mccann is a consultant with BUPA their advice is as below.

  15. 15 Will Says:

“If they were to go to Portugal now it would seem like they were trying to put pressure on the police, and they don’t want that”

    lolol

No they wouldn’t want that. That is what they pay the lawyers, PR team, Private investigators and assorted other fruitcakes for.

  16. 16 Ian Says:

Whatever happened to their daughter, these people should properly answer to their behaviour in enabling it to occur and they should be taken to task for all these pathetic attempts to save their skins.

‘We’ll definately go back and help in the investigation’…as long as its only an abduction by stranger investigation, incredible!

And now its more appalling to the press that two people might have been on a balcony than the leaving of the children…not one papaer has had a headline ‘Doctors did neglect their children’ makes you realise how anti childrens rights the UK is.

  17. 17 Ian Says:

    9 Swannie

Its good to see people here intelligent enough to cut through this bullshit from the ‘news’ papers. Well posted.

  18. 18 Hideki Says:

The child neglect occurred in Portugal, so perhaps the Portuguese laws are more relevant? It is of course likely that UK law was violated as well, since the toddlers were clearly exposed to danger by being left alone.

  20. 20 Julie Says:

You can bet your bottom dollar/pound/euro/rand that poor old Robert Murat is going to be revved up in the media in the following couple of days. Everyone from the Easter Bunny to Santa Claus will have seen him “hovering” around the apartment at the relevant time. There’s n0 ways that the wonderful PR team of the doting parents want them to remain the only suspects in the “misplacement” of their daughter, and they don’t want him “selling” his side of the story to anyone (they claim sole-rights on the money making aspect)! And watch that fund balance very carefully, people nowadays don’t do nothing for nothing …. if you catch my drift here ….. ;-) (As usual, all IMVOHO of course!)

  21. 21 Ian Says:

15 Will, another intelligent post destroying the McCanns ludicrous PR statements!

Well, then, this IS apartment 5c, then, isn’t it? The T9 group rented 5a, 5b, 5d, and one apartment above (2nd floor?). So, if the men renting 5c were ALSO acquaintances of T9, then this testimony being leaked is not necessarily beneficial to the McCanns.

I wonder if the British press is reporting this ONLY BECAUSE it was already leaked, and Clarence Mitchell needs to put a positive spin on it.

    HELLOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does Mr Mc Cann take any notice of this?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ————————————————————-
“If your older teenager does babysit, reward him for taking this responsibility, and tell the younger children that they will also merit rewards if they behave well in your absence. In the unlikely event that something goes wrong when you’re away, try not to allocate blame.

Practise positive parenting by giving praise where it is due and reward your children for sensible and responsible behaviour.”
    —————————
    Star charts?!!!!!!!!!

  25. 25 Ian Says:

    18 Hideki

More relevant? I wouldnt say ‘more’. Perhaps in terms of clarifying their status as being criminal and not religious icon or hard done by. But equally relevant in my view, as they have accused the parents of the UK of the same lax ‘child care’ as they employ and this proves the lie.

So 2008 should be kinder to people abandoning their children and then making damned sure she would be killed if she HAD been ‘abducted by stranger’? Why exactly do they deserve KINDNESS?

  26. 26 Ian Says:

    22 Hideki

    Well spotted.

  27. 27 Ian Says:

    24 Carmen

The point also that the McCanns continually seek to divert attention from the OTHER risks of leaving these little ones alone, as is stated in the Bupa guidelines, it is NEVER acceptable to leave such little ones alone, even for a very short time, even when sleeping.

Their statements about not being worried about stranger abduction simply underline the point that stranger abduction was considered highly unlikely by them before the 3rd of May, but incredibly likely after 3rd of May. Was such a dramatic change perhaps intended to divert attention from the other risks which were HIGHLY LIKELY?

  28. 28 Ian Says:

Isnt it about time the press printed the NSPCC and other guidelines regarding leaving children alone? They seem to print any old rubbish from McCann sources, so how about reminding people that the McCanns arent in the spotlight because people dont like them, but because they put themselves there and because they have failed in their duty of care.

They are not celebrities or victims!

An excellent resume! It has been puzzling me exactly how the McCann’s persuaded any newspapers to run this story………as in ‘two holiday makers behave perfectly normally on their balcony’ neither looking remotely like any of the putative suspects, , and this turns into PJ ignoring vital testimony?

I am also puzzled by some of the responses to TB’s 19 reasons posted earlier today. According to this poster (and several others I have read) It is apparently perfectly normal not to answer police questions ‘in a foreign country’, presumably this being because ‘foreign police’ cannot be trusted. Can anybody posit an explanation as to the mental gymnastics involved in telling yourself that you wish to go on holiday to a ‘foreign’ country where you cannot even trust the police, and that once there, it will be perfectly in order to leave your young children unattended in an unlocked hotel room? What about lurking off duty policemen?
    ————————————————

There have been a number of threads on the Mirror forum accusing the PJ in general and Amaral in particular of being the dastardly villains responsible for the disappearance of Madeleine.

As yet they have not managed to come up with an explanation for quite how nobody noticed him doing all that lurking, but since rationality is not a favoured route with the posters in question I have no doubt that there are lunatics out there who have convinced themeselves that the Portuguese have developed a cloaking device to enable them to kidnap 3 year olds…
