Madeleine McCann: The FBI, Maddy’s New Look And The Maddie Movie

madeleine Madeleine McCann: The FBI, Maddys New Look And The Maddie Movie MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann

DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine eight months on: FBI expert shows how missing 4-year-old may look now”

No, it is not that ghoulish. This is how she would look were she alive…

“A haunting picture of Madeleine McCann as she might look today should be used in the hunt to find the four-year-old, a former police chief said yesterday.” It’s celebrity copper John Stalker, who now advertises burglar alarms on the telly, when he’s not talking to the papers

“State-of-the-art ‘age advancement’ digital techniques were used by an FBI expert to create the image, which shows how Madeleine might have changed over the eight months since she disappeared”

You can create the same computer wizardry on your home PC by taking a picture of Madeleine and using “guesswork” and “speculation” look at her haircut, build and clothes. Squinting at it the image will help…

Says Stalker: “My first thought when I saw the image was ‘Who is this little stranger?’ It was only after looking closer that I realised it was her - and that is why this image is needed so badly because many people could have walked straight past her”

Madeleine McCann is no stranger. That’s her with the auburn hair and red sweater; the black hair and blue top; the blonde hair and swimsuit; the Moroccan family

“New York Police Department forensic artist Stephen Mancusi”, who produced the picture, says: “This tragic ordeal would have taken her brightness away”

Well, maybe…

Says Stalker: “What makes it so realistic and tragic is that you can almost see the sorrow in the face - the pain of being away from her Mum and Dad for over eight months. We are looking for a new Madeleine”

“MADELEINE: McCanns fear police are ‘deliberately stalling in the hope that they get lucky’” - A friend of the McCanns says: “It seems like every week there’s another change in Portuguese law that hampers the investigation and delays the case further. The red tape is unbelievable. It’s not fair that police can take as long as they want. They obviously think they will get lucky and some evidence will fall in their laps”

DAILY MIRROR: “Cops told to drag out McCann inquiry”

A “close friend” says: “The police obviously think they will get lucky and some evidence will fall in their laps. Gerry and Kate know that won’t happen, because they know they’re innocent, but it’s not fair that police keep moving the goalpost”

The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell says: “We hope the bureaucracy can be dealt with as swiftly and efficiently as possible, it is unfair to keep Gerry and Kate in absolute darkness like this”

THE SUN:  “HELL OF LOOKALIKE’S MUM - MY NICOLE’S A DOUBLE OF MADDIE TOO”

Louise A’Hern’s daughter is blonde. Some people think she looks like Madeleine McCann. This is her “hell”. Nicole could be a Madeleine lookalike. Says mum: “I’d let my daughter do the job for nothing. If it help’s Maddie’s parents I’d be delighted”

DAILY TELEGRAPH: “McCanns eager for police re-interview”

Says McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “Gerry and Kate, more than anyone, are anxious that the police complete their inquiries and eliminate them as soon as possible. If that means the police coming to Britain in the near future to re-interview Gerry and Kate and their friends, they are very keen for that to happen”

They are keen to speak with the Portuguese police…

Notes the paper: “He said that there was nothing to prevent the McCanns returning to Portugal, but there were no plans to do so in the immediate future”

But not that keen…

METRO: “McCanns ask for police interview” - See above

THE INDEPENDENT: “Conor Dignam On Broadcasting: The so-called ‘Maddie movie‘ could make compelling television”. Maddie? Maddy? Or Madeleine?

“The way this story was presented as a plan for a ‘Maddie movie’ says much about how the public and media perception of the McCanns has moved in the last six months. Both among the public and some sections of the media they are viewed with suspicion and hostility, despite the fact that no evidence has been put forward to support this perception…But the idea of a feature-length TV documentary about Madeleine McCann’s disappearance should be welcomed by anyone interested in trying to get to the truth of a compelling and terrible story.

“The fact that the McCanns are interested in the idea of such a project should be taken as further evidence that they have nothing to hide and simply want to do everything they can to get their daughter back. Who can blame them for that?”

    Cheat.

  3. 3 Karen Says:

Is it really likely that we’re going to walk past her? Truly Madeleine is now up there with Elvis and UFOs.
Her parents must know the sightings have turned into an Urban Myth, they’ve got a P.R. and seem to be media savvy. So have they done it deliberately? Is it because they know or suspect she’s dead but they need to create a diversion or they they’ve got caught up in their new media lifestyle?
And when are they British press going to admit they while the McCanns might be innocent, they’re not behaving normally?

  4. 4 Richard Says:

Well, judging by Gerry McCann’s own astute comment that the predators probably would have done something to her eye after it was used in his “marketing ploy”, I think it would be easy to identify Madeleine, if she were still alive, which is of course not the case.

She would be a girl with her eye gouged out. Maybe she has a glass eye now, like Robert Murat. I hope Metodo3 is looking into glass eye retailers.

When will the great British public look at a comment like “Gerry and Kate, more than anyone, are anxious that the police complete their inquiries and eliminate them as soon as possible. ” (as per Daily Telegraph) and realise that they are all being conned - not just by G & M but by the WHOLE UK media industry.
Can’t anyone with half a brain cell on ITV, Sky or the BBC just say “Hey, Guys, it’s not about finding Maddie - it’s all about them and their status”

    ++++++++++++++++++++

When will these media numpties get it through their thick heads that you cannot currently make a movie/docudrama/money spinning thing that shows the entire story of Madeleine’s disappearance? Firstly there is an ongoing criminal investigation and secondly, the PJ are unlikely to co-operate by providing the information they have, just at the moment.

So, unless you want a re-run of the McCann’s fantasy wonderland there is nothing, aside from money, to be gained from this. Now, who do we know that wants/needs money? ;)

I lost all hope many months ago.

The day after it is confirmed that the portuguese have asked the UK authorities to reinterview the McCanns, they come out and say that they want to be re-interviewed.

This is the same thing that they did when they went back to the UK and had a visit from Social Services. They then said that they themselves had asked for the meeting with Social Services.

This is just the whole strategy pursued by the McCanns and their team from day 1.

I’m tired of it, but frankly I don’t think you can blame british public opinion or the british media for it. The public opinion simply reflects the views of the media. And these views of the british media are moved both by xenophobic tendencies and by interests that are unclear to most of us at this stage.

For me there is only one player to blame for this circus and that is portuguese police. They seem unable or unwilling to give any signs that they are taking these diversionary events serious. In not doing so, they are promoting false sightings, misleading information and false accusations and suspicions being raised on innocents. If the portuguese police was to give a clear signal that they are taking these actions very seriously and they will be subject to investigation, you’d see that a lot of these anonymous emails etc. would stop.

Until then, they’re just promoting a circus that is deeply damaging for their image and very irritating.

1). How about the McCanns answering all the questions.
2). If they are innocent, why are they worried about the PJ looking for more evidence.

The FBI sketch of what Madeleine would look like now is really sick, and John stalker poking
his nose in again sheer attention seeking.

I am puzzled at the delay in the PJ interviewing the Tapas 7 and McCanns, what do you think the reason for this and the three month extension means? Since Joe Public has
lost interest in this case, how can the McCanns hope to expect more donations and the Press
produce any worthwhile info . It”s getting pretty desperate for the McCanns now.

I don’t really understand what these “sources” are calling bureaucratic loopholes. Unfortunately - once again - the british press is showing its determination NOT to understand some very basic procedural rules concerning the investigation.

The “secrecy of justice” rule applies in Portugal whilst there is an investigation. Once the investigation is concluded the secrecy is lifted. The investigation has a maximum limit of 8 months from when suspects are named. In “exceptional circumstances” the public prosecutor can ask for 3 more months for completion of the investigation, but has to justify it. This has been done alleging the complex nature of the case and the delays caused by translation and official requests for interviews etc.

Why would the McCanns want the investigation to be concluded - if Madeleine has not been found?

  16. 16 Richard Says:

Alex Woolfall’s specialty is “damage control” for coroporations faced with a situation that will bring bad publicity. He was brought in immediately by Ocean Club’s John Hill in order to deal with the “abduction” in May 2007. So was he brought in to protect the reputation of the Mark Warner resort? Whose reputation was he brought in to protect? Now Clarence Mitchell is also a PR man. Whose reputation is he protecting? I would say it is not the McCann’s. Thanks to Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns look guiltier by the day. So who is Clarence Mitchell and Alex Woolfall protecting? That’s the jackpot question.

    Interesting Alex Woolfall quote:
AW: I would definitely be in the school of thought that says ‘get it all out in one go’. If the company genuinely feel that in fact it has done something it is not proud of and that it really needs to set the record straight then it is far better to be completely open about that and get it out and over and done with because once you’ve lost the trust you won’t get the trust back again very easily and the more clients I would with, the more they seem to understand that actually at the end of the day honesty is not only the best policy, it’s the only policy now if they really really care about their corporate reputation.

Yes saw your post thanks, and I replied.

Re the FBI sketch.. I just “love” the way that stuff is written. Just wouldn’t read as well if they wrote something like:

In the unlikely event that Madeleine was still alive, the FBI have produced a sketch(es) showing what she might look like today.

The delay…. Hmm.. I wish I knew. The straightforward explanation is that the investigation is going well and that they just need more time to conclude things. Cynics in the pro-McCann camp may well argue that it just shows the PJ have nothing and are delaying the inevitable climb down. In my opinion, Team McCann seem to be doing a grand job of shooting themselves in the foot from a PR perspective and the PJ may just be enjoying the “sport”.

Personally. I hope/believe that they just need more time to wrap things up.

    +++++++++++++

At this juncture I expect what the McCann’s would ideally like is:

    • There arguido status to be lifted

    • For the investigation to be parked as unsolved

In my opinion, they could then begin a whole new media spin about how let down they feel by the PJ, whilst of course asserting that they have been cleared of all suspicions. Re-emphasise that Madeleine could still be alive and ask for money to help in their search. Resurrect the Movie idea. Become world wide ambassadors speaking on child welfare issues and generally right royally peeing off most sane people!

If they wish to prove their innocence they will have to go back to portugal, answer the PJ questions and face a possible trial. You can’t prove your innocence in the papers. One of those questions must be of course, why have you taken so long to do this, didn’t you know that your daughter might be in the hands of a pedophile?
I have one more question. I know it’s often a pro argument but it’s often stated that people react to tragedy in different ways but how many of you would want to play tennis/golf and jog, in fact do everything you normally, do if your daughter was abducted by pedophiles?
If i seriously believed my daughter was taken by pedophiles and the police were doing nothing the first thing i would do would be to attempt to infiltrate as many pedophile organizations as possible with a view to acquiring information with chopper style conviction (that’s if i hadn’t gone insane with the pressure). And if that failed i would have to eliminate as many pedophiles as i could until i felt better which i wouldn’t. In short i would be a revenge machine immune to the suffering and pain of my victims. To get over this tragedy in three days is mental.

“Why would the McCanns want the investigation to be concluded - if Madeleine has not been found?”

As I understand it, they do not want the investigation to be concluded, but access for their layers to the alleged evidence against them.

An extension of secrecy only makes sense to me with regard to the possibility of an abduction - because this would be an ongoing crime and secrecy would be in the interest of the continued search for Madeleine and her abductors.

With regard to the accident/cover up scenario, an extension of secrecy makes hardly any sense, because at least if charges were brought, the defence lawyers would have to be given access to all evidence anyway. Thus delaying this access would appear only as an unfair, yet pointless action towards the suspects.

I’ve always argued that he wasn’t brought in for the benefit of the McCann’s, by which I mean they would not be his primary interest. I’m sure he was indeed concerned about the situation they found themselves in, as indeed would any of us.

At face value then his primary interest ought to be Mark Warner. Unfortunately since May it has become very unclear as to who or what it is that really is the overriding interest here. Are the McCann’s indeed just very fortunate to be well connected, or is there some higher purpose, person(s) or organisation(s) that really do have a vested interest in manipulating this investigation?
