Madeleine McCann: Tabloid Snap, Metodo 3 PD and McCanns Innocent

agostinho-mccann Madeleine McCann: Tabloid Snap, Metodo 3 PD and McCanns InnocentMADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann

DAILY MIRROR: “I’M NOT GUILTY”

“A loner who looks like a drawing of a ‘creepy’ Madeleine McCann suspect has denied any links to her disappearance”

Joaquim Agostinho says: “It’s not me in the picture. I accept that the drawing looks like me”

The Mirror reports: “The former cockle picker, who lives in Altura, 90 miles from Praia da Luz, added: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive’”

But still his picture is in the paper in connection with a story about a missing child. Fingers are pointed

MADELEINE in Chile. What news of that? “Yesterday, police ruled out a “Madeleine” sighting in Chile after the girl was identified as American Haylee Dreyer, six”

DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – Amazing lookalike: ‘I did not kidnap and kill her’”

Mr Agostinho looks like an artist’s impression of man whom British tourist Gail Cooper says she saw acting hanging around Praia da Luz. He is the “oddball

Page 11: “DRIFTER MATCHES NEW MADELEINE SUSPECT”

Matches. Like in a game of snap? Snap! Snap! Snap!

“Investigators want to quiz a Portuguese drifter suspected of involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Detectives working for the youngster’s parents are to question Joaquim Agostinho, 42, in the resort of Altura”

Does he have to speak with the McCanns detectives?

“Mr Agostinho, who lives in Altura, said yesterday: ‘I did not kill Madeleine and I’ve never been to Praia da Luz. I cannot even drive.’ Altura is close to the Spanish border and detectives from Metodo 3 – the agency working for the McCanns – were last night travelling there from their headquarters in Barcelona”

Again, does he have to speak with private detectives?

THE SUN: “McCANN COPS QUIZ SUSPECT LOOKALIKE”

“Detectives are to quiz a drifter who looks uncannily like a mystery suspect in Maddie McCann’s disappearance. Joaquim Agostinho, 42, denies he is the creepy man depicted in a sketch issued by parents Kate and Gerry McCann

“But Metodo 3, the Spanish private investigators hired by the McCanns, are taking the possibility seriously”

Is Metodo 3 now a police force?

A source close to Metodo 3 says: “We are going to be talking to this man as a priority, to establish if he is the one Mrs Cooper saw”

What of the McCanns?

COPS now accept Kate and Gerry, both 39, may be innocent in Maddie’s disappearance, it has emerged. They have so far clung to just one theory — that Maddie was accidentally killed and her parents disposed of her body. Now they are taking seriously the alternative that she was snatched from the holiday apartment last May — which Kate and Gerry have always insisted must have happened”

DAILY MAIL: “Is this drifter the man in Madeleine drawing?”

Mr Agostinho says no. He delivers newspapers for a living. He says he is innocent
Metodo 3 are looking to speak with him

DAILY STAR: “MADDIE: THREE MEN RULED OUT – McCanns’ new hopes shattered”

It’s not Joaquim Jose Marques – police have ruled him out; and the Star was so certain

It’s not the girl in Chile – she’s a girl on holiday with her family

It’s not Joaquim Agostinho – he says it’s not him

METRO: “Twins play ‘find Maddie’”

“Leading world sex crimes expert Ray Wyre” has met with Kate and Gerry McCann
He sees the McCanns’ twins children. Wyre tells the paper: “They said they were going to go and find the monster that took Maddie. Then they dashed off to play the game. It’s a sad story, but it is healthy that Madeleine remains a real presence in their lives”
“A spokesman for the McCanns denied the story”

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/itn/20080127/twl-mistaken-identity-of-madeleine-suspe-41f21e0.html
    QUOTE:

‘A pig farmer who looks similar to the suspect in the sketches released by the McCanns has been ruled out by police.

Joaquim Jose Marques was found living in a village just eight miles from Praia da Luz, where the four-year-old went missing last May.

Police in Portugal apparently interviewed the man on two different occasions but eliminated him from the investigation.

The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said the Spanish private detective agency hired by the couple was still following up a number of leads sparked by the images.

Meanwhile, Kate and Gerry McCann have been approached to tell their story on two major US chat shows.

Oprah Winfrey and ABC’s Barbara Walters are battling it out to secure an exclusive interview - but Mitchell said nothing will go ahead while they’re still being treated as official suspects.’

    ENDQUTE

It shows how mixed up it all gets ans what the ‘uninterested observer’ will be presented with.

Incidentally, the SUN extract (I think its the SUN - shown in Anoraks summary above - I think it comes from ‘24 Horas’)…

‘“COPS now accept Kate and Gerry, both 39, may be innocent in Maddie’s disappearance, it has emerged. They have so far clung to just one theory — that Maddie was accidentally killed and her parents disposed of her body. Now they are taking seriously the alternative that she was snatched from the holiday apartment last May — which Kate and Gerry have always insisted must have happened”

…is another ’slant’ - in that the PJ have never ruled out anything, so to say they are returning to this is spin, but it may actually be PJ spin.

“…is another ’slant’ - in that the PJ have never ruled out anything, so to say they are returning to this is spin, but it may actually be PJ spin.”

BTW there seems to be a tendency to regard every article as spin. This is an exaggeration IMO. There is still a lot of nonsense that I assume is genuinely produced by the press. Examples are IMO the pig farmer story and the bosnian sighting.

This is the Bigest Farce and Scam of the century

  13. 13 Dr. Watson Says:

All this story is very helpful for us to learn to read the newspapers properly - without getting deceived by spin.
Look at Mitch.’s face - he is happily expressing : “I am lying, I know that you know I am lying, but I do not give a damn about you, I will get what I want”.

  14. 14 Dr. Watson Says:

The real punishment will come when the twins grow up and realise the truth - only my personal opinion, of course.

The problem is, nobody beves anything someone says once they have been seen to be ’spinning’ and indeed printing lies.

Its like politicians, does anybody believe them? We know that they cannot be held to account for promises in manifestos - there have been legal cases where it has been tried.

  18. 18 Ian Says:

    Dr Watson

You have a very clear approach - I like the way you cut through the crap and see the realities.

  19. 19 Salomon ES Says:

    11 Ferdinand

IMO the mission of a spin doctor is not to produce and publish every single piece of information published in the media (that’s more the role of a press officer).

The mission of a spin doctor is to create the events and the environment where favourable media speculation can strive - without losing control of the main story. That way he’s not seen as the generator of the information - and is therefore perceived as independent observer / commentator.

Overtime it’s difficult to sustain an environment where credible people keep reporting credible sightings of MAdeleine all over the world. We have now moved on to an environment where people are encouraged to report sightings of people with a beard, funny teeth and long hair. This should keep the tabloids happy for some months.

In a way I can’t wait to learn what comes next in the list. Any guess?

Poor little children…. what are the social services position towards the Twins?
The mccdrifters have had psychological counselling over the month.
Are those “parents” allowe to “look” after them in their state…of rage????

  21. 21 Salomon ES Says:

    16 dcb
As far as I’m aware that man is not named as “official suspect” or “witness” in the investigation. Therefore, if M3 would want to interview this man in Portugal (even to ask about Madeleine) they would not in any way be infringing the law. IMO

  22. 22 Ian Says:

    19 Salomon

A total distraction that would have a real abductor grinning from ear to ear.

Well one has to hand it to to the McCanns, if they are innocent they have provided to the world the perfect example of why a missing child case should not be handled by the media! They have, despite their efforts to deny it, warned the world of the risks of leaving children unattended.

If they are not so innocent (of anything other than being failures as parents) then they are to be congratulated in effective distraction techniques ‘par excellence’!

  23. 23 can't say no Says:

Does the Team Mccann have another STATE (COUNTRY) that i’m not aware ?
I mean they do what they want ,they have their press ,their Police (lol) their Prime Min. , i think a new country has born

  24. 24 Ian Says:

    21 Salomon

But I thought they were not allowed to run any investigation on Portuguese soil.

I suspect the PJ will closely monitoring their activities - they may end up being charged with harrassment or something similar.

They really cannot be allowed to run a ‘witch hunt’ - isnt this just what the McCanns have been flailing about accusing everyone else of (at least pro-mccanns here have).

But hasnt the PJ told M3 to keep out of the investigation at least in portugal?and arent they at the end of their contract with the mccFools?

  26. 26 Salomon ES Says:

Dr Watson - 13 I wish tabloid readers would take those learnings seriously.

Unfortunately IMO, I feel that for the reader who is not an “expert” in this madeleine affair, and that gets the odd bit of information from broadsheets or some occasional tabloid reading, he / she will think that the McCanns are totally innocent of any wrong doing.

Britons that have not followed the ins and outs of the case as discussed in “independent” media outlets (and I exclude british and portuguese media from the “independent category”) are at best unaware of the intriguing inconsistencies in the MCCanns behaviour, and in general feel that the McCanns are just the victims of some foreign conspiracy.

  27. 27 Ferdinand Says:

    17 Ian Says:

“Its like politicians, does anybody believe them?”

That’s one of the strange things of this story. The McCanns are regarded as polititians. But they aren’t. They don’t want you to vote for them. They don’t make decisions that affect our future. They have a very narrow agenda, finding her missing daughter, and you could simply ignore them (as opposed to the politicians).

All the unpleasant child harming people of the world would flock there, knowing that child care might not be a high governemnet priority!
