Madeleine McCann: Alipio Ribeiro’s Error, Another Madeleine And Days Of Anxiety
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “Chief says sorry to Maddie cops”
“Police national director Alipio Ribeiro angered detectives probing the mystery and a judge even told him to shut up. Mr Ribeiro has now admitted he made an ‘error of expression’”
Mr Ribeiro’s opinion that the Portuguese police may have acted hastily in naming the McCanns as suspects was big news
“Cops in the Algarve are still trying to pin four-year-old Maddie’s disappearance last May on doctors Kate and Gerry, both 39, of Rothley, Leics”
“Pin”?
“Lawyers for the pair want Portugal’s attorney general to clear them as official suspects, but that rarely happens before the end of an investigation”
DAILY MIRROR: “Top cop ‘sorry’ for McCann comment”
Alipio Riberio says it was a “slip of the tongue”. The Mirror says there are “calls for him to resign”, although from whom is not said
Says Carolos Pinto de Abreu, the McCanns’ lawyer: “The status of arguido runs until the end of the inquiry. However, during the inquiry there may be a change”
Clear?
GLASGOW DAILY RECORD: “Cop Rues McCann Suspects Radio ‘Slip’”
Mr Ribeiro “apologised for his remarks to the head of the Portuguese Police Federation ASFIC and officers leading the probe into Madeleine’s disappearance.” A source tells us: “Ribeiro said he didn’t mean to say it but faced with pressure from the media, the words came out of his mouth.”
Why then did he go on the radio and talk of the case?
“He insisted he still has total confidence in the teams who investigated and are investigating the case.”
NORTH WALES NEWSPAPERS: “I fear for the safety of my son”
“I FEAR for the safety of my son after social services told me they don’t have the facilities to help me,” a devoted mother with a rare neurological disease said this week.
Seriously ill mother Sally Burr, from Llandinam, near Llanidloes, recently woke up in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to discover her eight-year-old son had not only been forced to watch paramedics operate on her during a 45-minute ambulance journey, but he was missing.
“The first thing that ran through my mind was ‘Oh my God has someone taken him?’ I don’t want another Madeleine McCann incident to happen – he is only eight-years-old, said the distraught mother”
Not another Madeleine McCann. Or another
MALAYSIA STAR: “Days of Anxiety”
“Directed by Otto Bathurst and Simon Curtis, this joint venture between the BBC and HBO is as palpable as any ripped-from-the-tabloids docudrama – heightened by its cinema verite look. And there are notable similarities with the widely publicised search for four-year-old Madeleine McCann: suburban British family, missing toddler, suspected parent, media glare”
Madeleine McCann – the raw case of a missing child - is similar to a work of fiction?
THE EXPRESS, THE MAIL, THE STAR, THE TIMES, THE INDEPENDENT, THE GUARDIAN, THE TELEGRAPH – No Maddie news – No update on what Mr Ribeiro said

February 6th, 2008 at 7:59 am

February 6th, 2008 at 8:01 am
dearest anorak we are enthusiastic about other stories - well not the ones about celebs
- its just everyone meets up here - a little like an extended family, arguments and all
February 6th, 2008 at 8:07 am
Brilliant story. HE was hasty is saying that THEY were hasty. Is that it ?
Clarrie must be about make something out of that.
It does clearly prove beyond a shadow of a scintilla of a reasonable doubt that everyone concerned is completely innocent and should and indeed must be compensated by the PJ, the Portuguese Government, the British Government, the Leicester Police, and the CPS, Metodo3, Old Uncle Tom Cobbley and all, to the maximum extent of their bank accounts.
Or perhaps not.
February 6th, 2008 at 8:10 am
10 - the celeb stuff is just everywhere
February 6th, 2008 at 8:11 am
Petermac - agreed, let the government dip into our hard earned taxes and compensate this lovely family for all the hardship and vicious rumours they have had to bear
.
And as for the great pink one - he should start a new political party, called the ’say it as it is’ party and run for prime minister IMO
February 6th, 2008 at 8:12 am
anorak - yes the celeb stuff is just everywhere - and people buy that stuff????
says a lot about our great nation don’t you think?
February 6th, 2008 at 8:16 am

February 6th, 2008 at 8:33 am
Hi all.
Brandon I am taking a leaf out of your book (how does that expression go) -
It is my birthday today. A rat moving into the year of the rat.
Auspicious or what. I always maintained when Chinese new year came there would be a breakthrough in this case.
It will have something to do with writing.
About the birthday……..

You are quite right. There is a feeling of comradship on this site. We can be ourselves (as long as we’re not too libelous) and get to know each other, and we can also talk about other things of interest while we’re waiting for developments. And it’s an innocent clean site.
Adminstrator: Ah! I happen to be privy to the information that one contributor (who shall remain anonymous) believes this site and I quote :”…at times degenerates into a dating/sleaze site, dominated by a very tight clique.”
Does anyone have proof of this they would like to report?

HANNASUS
Many happy returns of the day. Hope you get some good presents. What’s the weather like where you are - is it the lovely Cape? Remind me what that beach is called near Simonstown where all the penguins are. I could just do with one of those enormous glasses of paw-paw juice in the Waterfront mall.

Not having been a regular poster on here, having left that all to Ann, I would actually agree with what you say as regards to the comradeship bit and I am sure that was what she felt. It was only CERTAIN posters who have now either disappeared / been blocked/ or changed their “handle” who spoilt it all, and - as I have said before, it was very gratifying to find that so many people supported her ( Ann) which accentuates the comradeship thing, and from what I can see everyone enjoys everyone else’s “company”, viewpoints and silly behaviour - most noteable the “fish jokes” from yesterday !! although I must confess, it gets a bit addictive doesn’t it ????? Off to work now, keep smiling…..!!

I was just asking about Ann yesterday. And you are right - many of us objected to the personal judgements and insults that were hurled on Ann. I hope she’s OK - M & A said she’e ill - hope she’s not too bad. If you know her, tell her to post again as we miss her.

Logic - Boulders Beach - it is very special. I have many memories from that beach.
My kids just made me a jug of freshly squeezed canteloupe juice.
I am endeavoring to do four months of just fruit. Have done four weeks
now and feel really good.
Thanks Trismegistus for the birthday wishes.
