Madaleine McCann: Amaral Accused
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “McCanns slur cop to face trial”
Goncalo Amaral is to go in the dock.
No, not because he “smeared” Kate and Gerry McCann. Not for “claiming British cops were trying to shield the McCanns, both 39, of Rothley, Leics.”
Mr Amaral “faces six years for allegedly concealing that four colleagues beat Leonor Cipriano, 36, until she confessed to killing her daughter Joana, nine”
Kate and Gerry McCann deny being involved in their daughter’s disappearance
DAILY MAIL: “Portuguese detective who led the hunt for Madeleine faces trial over his conduct in another missing child case”
“Amaral, 48, will stand trial along with four other officers - three of whom are alleged to have attacked Leonor Cipriano, whose nine-year-old daughter Joana vanished in 2004”
McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell “refused to talk about Amaral’s impending trial”. He said: “It is a matter for him and the judicial authorities in Portugal”
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Ex-chief of Maddy McCann case ‘in cover-up’”
Amaral “was in charge of the Madeleine case when her parents, Gerry and Kate, were named as suspects last September. His boss has since said officers had acted ‘hastily’ in making the McCanns arguidos (formal suspects)”
“Four inspectors will stand trial accused of torture. The officers claim that Mrs Cipriano tried to commit suicide by throwing herself off a staircase”
Kate and Gerry McCannare doctors.
It is not said how Leonor and Joao Cipriano, both convicted of killing Joana Cipriano, “8”, were employed

MOAH, I have now had time to watch the ‘No EU Common Purpose Gov’ video link and thank you for further opening my eyes.
Have already discussed this with many people, some of whom are aware, and all of whom agree that we can only speak openly about our perceptions and highlight any incidents which demonstrate the truth of the video.
Not succumbing to the fear being generated is key to a successful resistance.

Lisa and Noseycow, good morning tho I’m getting ready to go to bed. Noseycow, what does your statement and quote refer to? I’m curious.
“and the mcc’s were right in their assumptions about pdl weren’t they.. remember the quote..
“‘no valuables were taken’”
Liza, what they were in my eyes: were outright neglectful (in all of our eyes); lacked the common sense they have to have been born with; maybe they were living in a ‘fool’s world’ thinking nothing bad/horrible could happen to them or their children!
February 24th, 2008 at 6:46 am
re my post above: this doesn’t mean my kids were prisoners or something, simply that I gave them freedom to express themselves, explore and play but always under my supervision, I alwsy kept an unobtrusive eye on them, I was alwaysd at hand to help them and comfort them and stop them if they were being too adventurous…
February 24th, 2008 at 6:43 am
Right!
I don’t know what happened to Maddie, as a mother I actually feel the best scenario would be an accidental death in the apartment, being abused by pedophiles is too awful to contemplate….
I myself live in a very sleepy place in the Italian countryside, the sort of place where no strangers can pass through without being seen by neighbors etc etc. I never left my kids unattended - I was lucky enough to have splendid neighbors who would happily babysit, but even so I never let the kids at the neighbors’ if said neighbors’ had a cousin of their’s visiting - I didn’t like the way he behaved around kids and I never reassured myself thinkin ‘oh what the hell, what can happen at her place?’ Anything can happen anywhere in just a second… It doesn’t take long to frighten or abuse a child
What I mean to say is that with children you can never be too careful, no place is ever too safe, you should never lower your attention level… never be lulled into believing something is ’so safe’. I am not a doctor and yet I know that the majority of fatal accidents (and I’m talking about accidents!) happens in the home. So I can’t believe two doctors (people who are exposed to the outcome of such accidents! and therefore should be even more careful than I am) were so… so… so whatever

‘no valuables were taken’
February 24th, 2008 at 6:05 am
The whole point is that they left them alone (and unless I’m very much mistaken, Tanner had 2 young children, one even younger than Maddie’s siblings). Alone, with no way to call out for help and with an alledged 30 minute interval between checks. Left alone either in a locked apartment (danger of fire etc) or in an unlocked apartment (danger of children wandering out or of people going in
However sleepy Praia da Luz might be - and I know Portugal rather well, having been there quite a few times travelling around with my own 3 kids, when they were babies so I may understand the atmosphere they keep on harping on - their apartment was not in a gated compound but the gate opened directly onto a street. Streets notoriously connect to other towns, other places, give access to all kinds of people and cars. By stating that there was no way the children could have left the apartment, it means either the children were heavily sedated or that the doors were much too heavy for a 4-year old to manage (I find it hard to believe but in this case, to all itnents and purposes the children were locked in and so the aobve danger of fire etc still exists)
And lastly, no holiday apartment or hotel room I’ve ever been to with my children has ever been childproof. I may be the anxious sort, but when my children were young, I painstakingly child-proofed my own home, and whenever in other places with them, took care never to leave them alone. There are a zillion accidents waiting to happen in any normal house (fire, gas, electrity, knives, windows etc.
Cheryl - your comment on the fact that when you’re relaxed and maybe had a drink or two you tend to talk without reserve may well be true - I wonder though whether Gerry would have so amiably shared this with Jez or anybody else
‘What a lovely vacation! Every evening my friends and I enjoy a wonderful meal, we just leave at home all our valuables, you know, my wife’s diamond ring (she puts it on the kitchen table), about five thousand pounds and ten thousand euro (I just stick them into the first drawer of the dresser in my room) You know, this is such a sleepy little place and we takes turns checking every half an hour..”

In fact it took less than 1 minute, as Gerry says the abductor sighting of Tanner was 9:10 and he last saw Madeleine at 9:10.
Of course it might have taken a little longer to clean up the blood - so how did THAT get under tiles under the sofa?
Heres another thought…Gerry discussed childcare arrangements with Jez’a wife (a total stranger at the time) and with Jez (only just met him) so may have discussed it with anyone who’d listen. Almost as if he wanted them all to know of the lax security arrangments isnt it.
Very odd.
___________
Ian, I was not ignoring you just sat back down to go over the postings to read them and saw yours. What blood, Ian, under the tiles under the sofa? I’ve read speculations on here there was ‘lots of blood’, as well as blood under the tiles. Not that I believed it! However, last I read as speculation in the newspapers supposedly there was only microscopic drops of blood and then read the blood was found to be from a male human. If there was ‘lots of blood’, Ian, as speculated, then they could have gotten a good DNA result! They have not gotten one thus far, if one believes the report from the UK specialists, as reported once again I might point out in the newspapers.
Ian, that was a highly emotional-charged evening once the child was discovered missing. Do you really think anyone was truly capable of thinking with a clear mind not clouded by emotions or had the ability to think in minute detail of every little thing, i.e. timing, what they saw or heard or anything that would require absolute detailed recall?
You are studying to be lawyer, correct? Have you had the opportunity yet to observe a trial first hand and watch how a really good lawyer can lead a witness? Mix a witness up in cross-examing them so much that the witness questions themselves in what they saw or what they know or what they heard? The emotions of the moment can play on the mind in a high stress situation!
The conversations Gerry McCann had is not too surprising nor uncommon, one would think. I’ll take that back, at least I’m not surprised at any conversations people have re their personal life or about their children, etc. with more or less strangers in a friendly atmosphere,i.e., at a cocktail party, enjoyable dinners with other adults who willingly listen to others idle chatter. With a few cocktails in many people they just talk about all most anything being friendly. I realize the people in the UK are known to be reserved but they weren’t in the UK, they were on vacation, relaxed and having a good time. The reserve would not be there!
Ian, I’ll be blunt and honest with you, the only thing that is bothering me, by staying in the back of my mind, is the one friend and I don’t want to say the name on purpose who I believe it was said did change their story and said they really did not go into the room to check the children only listened at the door when it was their turn, I believe. But once again I think that was only reported in the newspapers not by the police? If that is a fact why change their story? Once the child was found missing were they afraid they would be a suspect in her disappearance and thus thought better they truly admit they didn’t go in? What time was their ‘check in’ suppose to be? After Gerry McCanns? If so, then one has all most an hour those children were not truly checked on by one not doing their duty! An hour, Ian, for what would only take a minute or less…

Yes, I wondered about an accident as well but why cover it up? Not to hide the fact that they’d left the children alone because they admitted that at once anyway. Her first reaction would have been one of panic and trying to help her child. In any case, what then happened to the body? It does seem as though GMc did check at 9.00pm because JW saw him on his way out and they chatted.
_______________
REPLY TO ABOVE: That is just it, Maria, they didn’t have time to hide the body once she screamed out. And as what happened to the body - well, you’ve been off for some time but I prefer not to mention some of the theories I read on here, as I’m having a late dinner tonight and prefer to keep my appetite! Yes he did check but once again, Maria, it can only take a minute or under to abduct a child; and if their comings and goings were being watched, as I suspect was happening, that child could have been taken within a minute after he started walking back to the restaurant.
_______________________________
If something happened earlier and they got rid of the body, how did K (and G for that matter) appear so normal and calm until 10.00pm?
_____________
REPLY TO THE ABOVE: No way they could have acted normal and calm, Maria!

One cannot be certain but it just seems unlikely to me at the moment that the parents are directly involved in this. I do understand why the police are suspicious. They should have done the right thing from the start and investigated the parents properly at once. We will have to wait and see the final outcome.
_____________________________
REPLY: Yes, the police are always suspicious of relatives first in any type of crime happening in the ‘home’, so to speak, and start checking out alibis. However, in this case the investigation from the very start was not conducted properly especially as it should have been with a possible abduction on their hands. I personally feel Amaral is responsible for the fiasco that followed with his irresponsibility in how that investigation was conducted until he was removed from the case.

Just a touch of whimsey! It just tells you what your ISP is and your IPaddress plus a little (maybe) amusing ditty. It doesn’t tell me anything. I originally used it to show people how easy it was for Voldemort to pin people down if they accessed his site. It’s redundant now. I just keep it there as a reminder

I agree. I was brought up a Catholic, I teach in a Catholic school and I occasionally attend mass. However, if my child was to go missing a priest would be the last person I would call on to help find my child. I would call on a priest of course if I had something to confess or I knew my child had gone( as in passed away.)
