Madeleine McCann And Shannon Matthews: Watching The Parents
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann and Shannon Matthews
BELFAST TELEGRAPH: “Missing: The contrasting searches for Shannon and Madeleine
Has class influenced the rewards offered and publicity given to two campaigns to find missing children? Cole Moreton goes to Dewsbury to investigate…
Two girls are missing:
Back in Britain, within those first 12 days, the McCanns got Premier League footballers to wear Madeleine T-shirts and athletes to run in yellow ribbons. They asked for advice from the likes of Phil Hall, former editor of the News of the World. And there was another factor: Madeleine was cute, and Kate McCann good-looking.
The cameras loved her, even when she broke down during a press conference, clutching her daughter’s pink Cuddle Cat.
Such reporting sheds no light on the case, but all on the parents.
Karen Matthews is not as elegant, nor as eloquent. Middle England may not envy her life, or identify with it. But the 32-year-old looked as lost and in pain as any other mother would when she broke down in tears outside her home the day after Shannon went. “I’m begging you, baby, please come back,” she said. But it seemed that almost as much attention was paid to the fact that Karen has had seven babies by five fathers. Shannon’s dad Leon Rose left four years ago.

Do you want to say he might have worn a wetsuit?

I think if you had a competition for the weirdest abduction theory this latest one would deserve a mention.
Obviously would work well when shooting the movie.
March 4th, 2008 at 7:18 am
Duncan, the plot is either thickening, or being lost completely.

James Bond may be involved, allegedly.

She also accepts police must carry out criminal checks on members of her own family. Karen said: “Whatever the police need to do they can go ahead and do it.”
The tearful mum also said she hasn’t been able to go into Shannon’s bedroom since the girl vanished.
Karen added: “If I go in I just end up crying.”
Shannon’s dad Leon, 29, spoke about how he spends every day searching the streets for his missing daughter, who vanished after a swimming trip in Dewsbury.
He also revealed how he reassures her 10-year-old brother Ian.
Leon said: “We just want her home safe. It’s killing us. I have been out looking every day, driving about, handing out leaflets, asking if anyone has seen her.
“It beats me up that I go out every day and I can’t find her.
“Every time I come home and see the looks on my other kids’ faces it’s awful.
“But I will find her. Basically if she is wanting to go home we can sort something out.”

647,brandon…..yes I can understand that. I was asking really to see if anyone saw more of the news than I did,as all I got was a snippet, and it just sounded like she may have been letting something out, if you know what I mean….
I have lots of speculative stories but dont like to say much on them just in case,Some sound quite credible others sound a bit jackanory,But I just hope the child turns up safe……….been a long day so bed for me now…….goodnight all.

I think its natural if your child goes missing for a length of time to begin to suspect everyone and then try and rule them out!
March 4th, 2008 at 12:15 am
So is it just a knee jerk reaction then about not trusting the family, an upset mothers talk, or does she think somethings not right with someone close to her,
Hav’nt heard much news today, well official news anyway…..It was also mentioned that an uncle has dissapeared, but again speculative, As there is no news coming out on tv, speculation is all we have at the minute…..
got to be careful because it could be a load of bollox, but we shall see.

Re Madeleine: DOES THIS WAFFLE RECEIVED FROM THE HOME OFFICE HAVE ANY RELEVANCE TO THE ENQUIRIES MADE?
On 29th January 2008, I wrote to my MP, Michael Foster, edited as follows:
“Why is our Government now failing to cooperate with the Portuguese Police?
Rogatory letters were sent from Portugal in early January…. to date there has not even been an official acknowledgement…..
Would you please investigate:
Why did the McCanns instantly engage top lawyers for themselves, both in Portugal and here, yet continue to employ a detective agency with no experience of finding missing children, and who seem to specialise in making ludicrous sightings at vast expense? In my opinion it smacks of money laundering.
Why are the McCanns not presently and transparently accountable for the huge sums of money raised by the public, supposedly to Find Madeleine?
Why do the McCanns warrant unprecedented support from many influential people, which enables them to suppress investigation into the truth? Just how gullible do all these people imagine the public to be? ”
……….
Michael Foster has now forwarded to me a copy of a letter addressed to him from Admiral The Lord West of Spithead GCB DSC, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Home Office, dated 20th Feb 2008. It reads:
Dear Michael,
Thank you for your letter of 5 February 2008 to the Home Secretary on behalf of Mrs (my name and full address) about Madeleine McCann. I have been asked to respond as Minister with responsibility for extradition.
You will appreciate that we cannot disclose details of any specific cases that may have been referred to the Home Secretary for consideration. To protect the integrity of any on-going criminal investigations, our normal policy is to neither confirm nor deny that a request has been made or received. However, exceptionally I can confirm that the Home Office has only very recently received a formal request for Mutual Legal Assistance concerning the McCann investigation. It is not appropriate to comment further on this particular case.
In general terms, the provision of evidence from one country to another for use in criminal proceedings or investigations is carried out under mutual legal assistance legislation, specifically the Crime (International Co-operation) Act 2003. Competent judicial authorities in one country, who are conducting criminal investigations or proceedings, may make a request for evidence to be obtained by way of a formal letter of request, which is then passed through a Central Authority (the UK Central Authority is located in the Home Office) so that it may be executed by an appropriate law enforcement agency.
Before it is allocated to these agencies, a request is fully considered by officials, on behalf of the Home Secretary, to ensure it complies with relevant legislation and the UK’s international obligations, as there are a number of international conventions and bilateral treaties that need to be taken into consideration.
I would therefore wish to assure your constituent that, far from the Government “blocking” any investigation, requests for mutual legal assistance are a normal method of tackling international crime that are subject to both domestic and international legislation and agreements and as such have to be duly considered by the Secretary of State.
For further information on mutual legal assistance your constituent may wish to see the Home Office website at the following address:

Yours aye

………
I imagine this is probably a fairly standard response sent out to anybody who has written to their MP expressing concern about investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. DOEST IT HELP?

Its only temporary !
Like a storm it passes, you learn to see it coming, and remember how to live with it!
I have realised it seems to manefest in times of insecurity and change.
Took me a long time to get it!

shannons mum doesnt trust anyone in her family anymore, seems a strange thing to say
**********
May be this is the first time she allows herself to say it.
Shannon”s disappearance is acting like a cathalyst. She poor old Karren must be in hell.Karen”s life has been very insecure. She herself as an “adult” wants to fee again the babyhood safety she might never have had.To do this over and over again she has birthed 7 children with 5 different fathers.
To have 2 kids with one partner can be seen as a very small break through a rememberance of a feeling of security.Would be interesting to know the order of the children”s births etc….
I wonder how much proper psychological support she has.

‘It makes me think I can’t trust the people who are really close to me any more.’

This one statement shows a natural reaction to your daughter disappearing.
Kate allowed 2 men not grandads, step fathers, brothers, uncles or even boyfriends to check on her 3 babies!
Mere associates
Yet there has never been a mention of a slight suspicion or worry!
IT STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No.
Not all has been said at.
Thre are always reasons for things to happen. It is time to move on from the “simple neglect” stuff to go a step further ..
We can “judge” them for this and that but it goes well beyond what we actually see/understand etc.
It does not mean in the the mccann must be “washed”/excused for what they did.
They are locked in their pain, their primal pain and sharing it with each other to the point they can concive normally. They are not the only people in that situation. It is actually becoming a fast growing “disease”.A civilisation”s disease.
Karren also suffers the same pain. Her very own.Neurosis.It makes us act our feelings in ters of phobias, obssessions etc……
Well …it was just late passing thoughts.Probably too heavy this time of the night
Didnt want to bother you guys.
