Madleine MCcann: The ITV Film, Tabloid Crime And Scarlett Keeling

THE SUN: “McCanns could be in ITV film”

KATE and Gerry McCann are in talks to appear in an ITV documentary on missing kids. But the film will not be based on Madeleine’s case. Instead it would focus on how other countries treat lost children.

Are the McCanns doomed to be the media faces of missing children? Will they be invited to off their views on Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Unsolved Crimes?

DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Madeleine McCann’s parents discuss TV offer”

Representatives of Kate and Gerry McCann have met with the broadcaster about a documentary that would be shot over a long period of time, their spokesman confirmed. It is thought that, while the documentary would feature four-year-old Madeleine’s disappearance from Portuguese resort Praia da Luz last year, it would focus on the wider subject of how countries respond to children going missing.

Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns spokesman, says: “We have talked with one or two companies and have a number of proposals and we are moving forward with those proposals. It is more than likely it would be with ITV at this stage, but I am not at liberty to go into details.”

Is this Brand McCann at work?

Says Clarence Mitchell: “They don’t want to do anything about ‘woe is us a year on’. That is what the tabloids would like us to do, but we are not following their agenda, we are following our own agenda.”

Indeed. No film. It will be tasteful and not at all mawkish. It will not be all about viewing figures and advertisers. It will be an ITV film…

The McCanns are arguidos in the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine McCann. They claim they are innocent. They have not been charged with any crime. Their daughter is missing. DAILY MAIL: “McCanns to appear in new ‘missing children’ documentary for ITV”

Says Clarence Mitchell: “We are looking at a long form documentary surrounding some of the wider issues Kate and Gerry want to highlight like the creation of an Amber alert system in Europe. There is nothing like it in Europe. Each country has its own systems but they don’t talk to each other. Kate and Gerry are keen to discuss that part of improvement with [non government organisations] and we may well do a documentary looking at that aspect.”

Are the McCanns now the celebrity face of missing children?

THE GUARDIAN: “McCanns mull ITV documentary offer”

The documentary would examine initiatives such as Project Amber in the US, which sees alerts posted on electronic roadside billboards as soon as a child is reported missing.

MCCANNS v EXPRESS NEWSPAPERS:

Last week, it was confirmed the McCanns had made formal complaints to Express Newspapers over a series of what Mitchell claimed were “wildly and grossly defamatory” articles in the group’s titles’ coverage of Madeleine and were considering taking legal action. They have instructed London law firm Carter Ruck, which specialises in high profile libel cases, to push for a settlement.

The McCanns And The Media: a debate

DAILY MIRROR: “’I was naive ..I was too trusting but I was NOT’ - GOA GIRL’SMUM DEFENDS LEAVING HER”

Scarlett Keeling is 15. Her mother has left her in Goa. Scarlett Keeling is murdered. How is this crime linked with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann? Can you guess?

Fiona MacKeown, who has been fiercely criticised in India for leaving the 15-year-old in Goa with her tour guide boyfriend while she explored a neighbouring state, said: “I do feel responsible for being naive and too trusting.

“But I do not feel I was negligent. Scarlett was in good hands with people who cared about her. I felt she was in a good family atmosphere.”

The investigation:

Initially they insisted Scarlett had drowned and only launched a murder investigation after a campaign by Fiona forced a second postmortem. It showed that she had been attacked.

Then when officers arrested de Souza, Fiona questioned whether they had the right man and accused them of a cover-up. Fiona, from Bideford, Devon, said: “I can’t believe the police have stooped to this level.

“They should be supporting me and investigating Scarlett’s death.”

And:

“Even so, I was half expecting it. In the Madeleine McCann case the police arrested the parents when they started asking questions. I’m very nervous and I don’t want to go back to the police station but I’m going to make a statement and get it over and done with.”

Police have arrested 28-year-old barman Samson de Souza on suspicion of rape. The murder inquiry continues.

No-one has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

“If police had taken more interest in previous [suspicious] deaths, then Scarlett might not be dead now,” growled Fiona.
…………………who dose she think she is to make such claims?how long has she been in india to know how the police work there?is she aware that after almost 40 years of “it” -drugged out of ther face people -in goa the cops know with whom they are dealing?

Mrs MacKeown is now to be questioned by Goan police for negligence - a tactic she claims is a “disgusting” attempt to “switch the focus” away from their own failings
………………ah….those stupid indian cops! I wonder if they have learnt something from the mcArguidos. It would be just incredible if they lock her up for child neglect. Is somebody in the uk going to bring charges againt her?and be rejected?

Scarlett was last seen at 4am in a bar surrounded by several men. Witnesses say she was totally off her head on ecstasy and cocaine.
………………what a revelation! it is just normal and it probably wasnt the first timethe girl was doing it

    People are nuts.
    The mother very nervous? why?

    Morning Steve.
Is it safe today on anorak?

  4. jo Says:

“I don’t know what they call that in globe-trotting hippy circles. Back here on Planet Parent it’s known as dereliction of duty. ”

But this doesnt apply to the mcFools then?

  5. SteveT Says:

    Jo,

Some people will try and start trouble later I’m sure!

What I really dont understand is why some people are so against the PJ coming over for the interviews, after all they have nothing to hide do they?

  6. jo Says:

    SteveT

If some try again to disrupt I think I will just not post here anymore.
Some people are just scared the PJ is going to charge them.
We all know the mccanns are hiding and being a real pain in the neck but the game at least theirs will be over soon.
I havent heard any further “noise” about the film they want to make.
I mean this is an other diversion tactic but not only this: they are despearate to make some cash for their defense and it seems they are not going very far with sueing the express group ae they? no news on that front.
    I am sick of them

  7. SteveT Says:

    Jo,

I feel the same as you.

  8. jo Says:

Most of us do but why do keep on posting?

  9. jo Says:

    do “we” sorry

  10. SteveT Says:

The objective that some people have is to drive people away if they can not convert them.

  11. penster Says:

Does Clarence Mitchell fucking live with them?
Jo certain parties suspect you’re a troll from the Mccann camp.

  12. SteveT Says:

Hopefully he will get a cell near them.

I personally could do without insults .I have written (privately) to M & Adm about “Garth” going on about my “drinking habit” (apparently) and his stupid comments about my health but so far I have no reply and probably wont have one.I felt very abused.I have never insulted this poster nor any of them…..
Does freedom of expression includes insults?

Administrator: It is extremely difficult to reply to a complaint re an alleged abuse in this case. You provide no references or examples for me to check and I should need both sides of that exchange to make a fair judgement.
I have to ask on what basis does a poster know whether you drink alcohol or not? Again No references.
There can be lively, even strongly-worded, debate in here. If it sticks to the subject, it is tolerated in the name of freedom of expression. Yesterday’s incidents were an example of an abuse of that freedom.
I would never act upon a one-sided complaint. If you provide me with proof of this alleged behaviour I would look at it. I have to say, however, normally a gratuitous and unnecessary insult would have been flagged up to me by others. This has not happened in your case. I will also stress I do not look fondly on those who run to Moderators to defend a weak position. I am not suggesting that may be the case here…you have not provided proof either way. The open Forum is NOT the place to discuss this since it would appear you are attempting to use a sledgehammer to crack an almond. If you have a complaint you wish to raise email:
editor@anorak.co.uk and it will be passed to me. I would prefer debaters to act as adults and behave accordingly. Distraction of Moderators…who, make no mistake about this, control the the governance of the site…is frowned upon.-agw

    Who thinks this?

  15. SteveT Says:

    Jo,

I think it is a joke.

  16. penster Says:

How does Garth know that you have a drinking habit - do you slur your keyboard?

  17. jo Says:

I do NOT drink at all as I have a heart condition. He made it up sometime ago and goes about it everytime he possibly can and I am extremely fed up with it.
Yes I do slur my keybord at times
So now I am a troll with a drinking habit.Fantastic!!!
Nice start to the day …..

You tell ‘em, Mitch, or rather, don’t tell ‘em. Holy McCow, we can’t have the great unwashed poking unwanted noses into the business affairs of the great and the good, can we?

I remember what they were doing, last summer in PDL. All about ‘Code Madeleine’, and when a child goes missing for more than ten seconds, alarm bells go off, and rapid response hit squads of tour reps. and hotel staff swing into action, if they aren’t legless.

Where’s the profit in that. I thought to myself. This ITN boondoggle is a much better bet. And to think, we even had delusions Sir Trevor Macdonald would front up a call for an investigation of the disappearance, when the British MSM were still scratching their collective b*llocks over the whole thing. Silly us. Clever McScams.

Of course, the logical consistency of ‘Code Madeleine’ depended upon the parents involved immediately advising Central Command & Control of the disappearance of their snotty-nosed one, and not, as in the McScam case, waiting some hours before condescending to inform the authorities.

Jo you’re very brave posting here with a heart condition. Have you consulted Dr Mccann? Ditching the booze will help.

Never dance With a troll, I did a Wizard of the eighth level should know better.
Jo, xclamation and CSN have both thrown their toys out of the pram, because this is not a totally anti site.
I would say the antis are more worried that no charges will be laid, rather than the way you see it.
Example: British police applied for an EAW for the return to the UK from Portugal of a suspect, warrant granted, suspect returned no problems encountered by either authorities.
Question: If it was that simple for the UK to have a suspect returned by the Portuguese, why is the reverse not the case. The answer is very simple, because the McCanns are not in any law except Portuguese, suspects, even then that situation is less than clear.
That begs the question, why have the Portuguese not applied for EAW’s, have the “”suspects”" delivered to their jurisdiction and get on with it, rather than them show a weak hand by coming here.
Xclamation, as is most stuff from 3A full of contradiction, having read the original on the publishing site, it is full of holes and contradictions. Also it leaves out, who is paying for the dive, preffering to shroud it in mystery and rank bad reporting, there is no mystery, as has been widely reported the dive is being financed by a major Portuguese construction firm.
I am now having serious doubts if Madeleine’s case will ever be resolved.

Administrator: Good morning Gandolf. I trust you slept well and are refreshed. I am pleased you have not also thrown your toys from the perambulator this morning. I should be grateful if you and your little friend of yesterday keep the more graphic health conditions and expletives under the swaddling clothes too. -agw

sounds almost like they are confident that the body will not be found

  30. penster Says:

The first line of defence to children going missing is to keep an eye on them in the first place.
I feel that the Mccanns are well placed to present a documentary on this issue and give the subject the profile it should have but ONLY if they address completely and with contrition, the fact that their children were out of sight and sound all night.
