Madeleine McCann: 100 More Questions, McCanns And Shannon

mccanns_11 Madeleine McCann: 100 More Questions, McCanns And ShannonMADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann

DAILY MIRROR: “100 QUESTIONS FOR TAPAS SEVEN”

The same 100 questions Portuguese police compiled last November, or new ones?

Kate and Gerry McCann’s holiday friends will be quizzed again to check alleged discrepancies in their stories. The Tapas Seven, who had dinner with the McCanns on the night their daughter Madeleine, four, vanished, will have more than 100 questions put to them by Portuguese police.

Tapas Seven. Tapas Nine. What will the tabloids settle on?

The Mirror quotes a source who tells a source, Portuguese paper 24 Horas: “We are at a crucial phase. There are clear contradictions in the statements that the McCanns and their friends gave. Many things have to be clarified. The need to question Madeleine’s parents again will be determined by the results of the interrogations of their holiday friends.”

In which instance the Tapas Nine will be questioned.

SPENBOROUGH GUARDIAN: “The Shannon Matthews documentary was about more than a missing girl”

THE fly-on-the-wall documentary about Shannon Matthews’s family last week was not just about the missing girl. It was also a drama of press intrusion and a meeting of two very different sections of society.

The Channel 4 documentary last Thursday showed what it was like to have a missing child - the futile attempts to carry on as normal, the eeriness of the absent girl’s bedroom, the dog sulking under the table - and also the constant pressure to reveal more to an insatiable pack of newshounds.

What about getting a spokesman?

Did it make a difference to how the story was covered? Some people seemed to think so. A family friend speculated that Shannon’s case was unlikely to enjoy the same degree of coverage as that of Madeline McCann, whose Richard Branson-funded campaign was the longest running front page story since World War Two.

But the McCanns have been unfairly treated. Send down the subs department for some brackets.

(Then again, being sleekly middle-class did nothing to protect the McCanns from allegations - since withdrawn - that they were involved in their daughter’s disappearance. The press might penalise you with its snobbery if you’re working class, but it won’t exempt you from malicious speculation just because you’re not.)

That’s better.

Madeleine McCann: Still making news

  1. 1 DuncanR Says:

C’mon you lot. Where are you?

  2. 2 Totje Says:

Having coffee and posting in the last thread, so you’ve beaten met to it!

  3. 3 Totje Says:

    met = me [hangover!]

  4. 4 DuncanR Says:

Forget the coffee. Best cure for a hangover? Another drink!

DAILY MIRROR: “100 QUESTIONS FOR TAPAS SEVEN”
“will have more than 100 questions put to them”

Make up your mind, is it 100 or more than 100? And in case it’s more than 100, why not mention the exact number if your sources are that reliable and pretend to know so much about it?
And is it 100 questions for 4 people, 7, people, 9 people or even more?
100 questions for 100 people is a bit different to 100 questions for 2 people, isn’t it?

Ah and what happened to the assumed questions for the psychologist and Justine?
    Are they included?

  6. 6 Carmen Says:

Well I’m all ready for the day’s sport……..

  7. 7 Totje Says:

    DuncanR

Yep, I know… but I’m on this diet and I really should not drink alcohol. The mind is strong, but the flesh is weak so last night was a minor mistake.

Construction workers at the neighbours started at 08.00 am [we're one hour ahead of the UK] with a lot of noise. On a Saturday!!!!
I must stay calm, I must stay calm, I’m not going to kill them, no I’m not!

I’m going to take a hot shower and walk the puppy in the forest. It’s not noisy over there.

I wish you good luck, I think you’ll need it yesterday was a preview of today ;)

Why is DuncanR’s beer showing up and your picture “happy” is a little red cross?
Is it my computer or is it a glitch of Anorak?

  9. 9 Carmen Says:

    I don’t know Totje

Because Duncan is cleverer than me I guess.

We will be coming up to a quarter of a million comments that we’ve moderated some time today - and that’s just on the ‘new’ board, so I guess some of us might be forgiven for falling behind with technological developments.

Duncan can you sort me out please!

  10. 10 Carmen Says:

See Totje, Duncan sorted me out and now I’m smiling.

Does Mrs Duncan still read the comments, Duncan?????????

  11. 11 DuncanR Says:

I’ve learnt my lesson. I lock her in the bedroom now whenever I leave the house!

  12. 12 Marie Nicholas Says:

Nice to see you bouncing happily so early in the morning on a saturday, Carmen!
Is it all the reading of our posts that keeps you fit?

  13. 13 Matt. Says:

In the accompanning pic, are the McDoc’s checking the total Official Site’s
Donations Amount on their ‘puter ?

    Morning all…… :)

  14. 14 Matt. Says:

I must teach my ‘puter not to make so many typos.

  15. 15 Marie Nicholas Says:

“Then again, being sleekly middle-class did nothing to protect the McCanns from allegations - since withdrawn - that they were involved in their daughter’s disappearance. The press might penalise you with its snobbery if you’re working class, but it won’t exempt you from malicious speculation just because you’re not”.

    Are they kidding?

The allegations don’t come only from the press. Do the journalists have to pretend that the PJ is non-existant? Are they supposed not to report a certain kind of facts? If so, why?

Or is the PJ also guilty of “malicious speculation”, even though the arguidos are sleeky middle-class?

    Last question :
Is this excellent piece of journalism really in the Spenborough Guardian?

  16. 16 penster Says:

Carmen I’m not one for emoticons but that yellow smartie is lovely.

  17. 17 penster Says:

What’s been the washup on Shannon Matthews in the press over there? And has she been returned to the family?

    Hi penster

not returned yet, still subjudice , so no reporting, just the odd update on her well being

  18. 18 Carmen Says:

    Marie-Nicholas,

We have a trampoline in the office made from the stretched carcasses of errant posters, keeps you nice and supple. Recommend it!

‘Tis a beautiful morning in the Sud-Ouest and I’m full of beans as they say.

  19. 19 lindy Says:

Your all to bright and breezy this morning,my head hurts. That will teach me to drink too much.

  21. 21 Marie Nicholas Says:

    Matt 13

I would hate to have to willingly contribute to the Fund by saying things which would be considered as libel. So no comment at the press being allowed to take a picture of them hand in hand, working on the computor.

    No more malicious allegations, ever.

  22. 22 Matt. Says:

    21…Marie Nicholas

I do worry about that right-hand “pose” of the good Dr G P.

    So……erm……macho.

  23. 23 Ferdinand Says:

    15 Marie Nicholas Says:

“Or is the PJ also guilty of “malicious speculation”, even though the arguidos are sleeky middle-class? ”

The police are - to some extent - allowed for speculation during an ongoing investigation. They may test even far fetched hypotheses, if only to definitely exclude them. But they don’t publish such speculations, at least as far as they are working professionally. If they did, that would indeed be malicious.

  24. 24 Marie Nicholas Says:

    Carmen 18

It is beautiful in the Sud-Est too.

Will the 250.000 th poster will be awarded a title, or are you waiting for the 1.000 000 th?
Or is it you who deserve the reward?

  25. 25 Matt. Says:

    Both wearing………..watches. :)

  26. 26 Marie Nicholas Says:

    Ferdinand 23

What the PJ have made public is the naming of arguidos. So, it is a fact, and not malicious speculation. It also seems to be a fact that the PJ are still investigating, and coming soon. I consider it at least biased to pretend the allegations (that they maybe were involved) is just the result of ungrounded malicious speculation.

  27. 27 Marie Nicholas Says:

    Matt 22

I got exactly the same feeling about the picture! He is explaining, showing, planning, and she is watching where he wants, listening and trustful… (I think it is the bracelet which makes his hand come out strangely).

Maybe it is an exact image of how the roles are distributed in their couple, maybe it is a strategic stance for the camera. I don’t care really. With all the media campaign, it has become impossible to take them at their face value.

  28. 28 coolandcalm Says:

Morning. Just been flicking through last nights posts…. WOW! poor old Cheryl. Gives a whole new meaning to Ad Hominem!
Is she not allowed to post her views?
Some of the comments were so very personal. Is abuse the best form of argument? Not IMO…

    M and A

Of course she is alllowed to post her views, but my goodness she does NOT have the right to lecture people.

Don’t YOU recall her battles with Gorgeous George in the old format?
    Ad hominem throughout from Cheryl

  29. 29 Matt. Says:

Re McDoc’s visit to Missing Children Charity…..

“”"”The Richmond and Twickenham Times also received reports that the
couple visited The Depot restaurant, in Tideway Yard, Mortlake High Street,
    and were being filmed.
However, staff at the restaurant remained tight-lipped about the couple’s visit
and refused to comment as to what the filming was for.”"”"”

    http://tinyurl.com/3yswhe

Would this “filming ” be by the same Company who did the “filming” in the
USA at NCMEC the other day ?

  30. 30 Marie Nicholas Says:

    Coolandcalm 28

I wouldn’t worry too much for “poor Cheryl”! She challenged Stevo, and not so nicely, as far as I remember. Anyway, she wouldn’t post on Anorak if she didn’t think it was worth it.

I don’t see what she achieved with her phone call anyway, apart from inviting some people to read Anorak.
