Madeleine McCann: Clarence Mitchell’s Gloves, Portuguese Police Deny And Kate McCann’s Tears
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “McCann cops deny ‘smears’”
Those stories on Spanish television about what Kate and Gerry McCann are supposed to have said to the Portuguese police?
But last night, in only their fifth declaration since the case began, cops said it was “entirely false” to suggest they had been responsible.
But Clarence Mitchell, who has made a few more statements than five, senses a smear camping. Says he: “I am not retracting a word. The criticism of me doesn’t explain how confidential material came to be made public with curious timing.”
FERGUS SHANAHAN: “NO PEACE FOR POOR KATE”
“Never has such a terrible personal ordeal been played on so public a stage. Yet, every night, after the backbiters have done their worst, Kate must stand in Maddie’s silent bedroom and shed her tears in private.”
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE COPS: WE DIDN’T LEAK STORY”
“The Policia Judiciaria would like to make it clear that it is entirely false to suggest the content of the news item in question reproduces material from the inquiry, which is the subject of judicial secrecy.”
DAILY MAIL: “MADDIE WAR OF WORDS”
War?
“Now Portuguese police lash out at McCann aide over leak claim.”
A lash? Surely it’s more of a carefully constructed statement.
“The PJ regrets the baseless intervention of the spokesman, above all at a moment when significant moves were being made in the investigation.”
Forget Missing Madeleine. Stop watching the parents. This story is now about Clarence Mitchell.
DAILY EXPRESS: “Madeleine: Police hit back over leak claims”
Less of a war than a fight.
“Yesterday the officers were due to meet a prosecutor to discuss any new leads thrown up by the investigation. Instead, they spent their afternoon drafting the statement.”
Portuguese police are slow but thorough writers.
Says Clarence Mitchell: “I don’t want to get into a row with them.”
This is the same Clarence Mitchell who told us: “It’s the same old game. We know what they’re up to. We are not happy and the gloves are off.”
DIGITAL SPY: “Mad May returns to ‘EastEnders’”
EastEnders actress Amanda Drew is to reprise her controversial Walford role as warped Dr ‘Mad’ May Wright.
The 38-year-old actress will resurrect her sinister screen counterpart after almost a year’s break. Viewers last saw May tangled in the midst of Albert Square’s baby abduction storyline which led to her character’s exit from the soap.
Last year, BBC bosses made the decision to substantially re-write and re-film the ending to the storyline due to events surrounding Madeleine McCann in Portugal. The climax episode still attracted almost 200 complaints.
The plot saw May and husband Rob Minter (Stuart Laing) attempting to steal Dawn Swann’s (Kara Tointon) baby via a forced caesarian and came to a head with Drew’s character being arrested and subsequently sectioned.

April 15th, 2008 at 7:57 am
* With him I mean !!

Let me see if I’ve got this right.
What K & G told the police about Madeleine crying on the 2nd May is not subject to secrecy because it is of no relevance to Madeleine’s disappearance. Presumably this is because, by K & G’s own admission, the back door was locked on 2nd Mayt and so there could have been no intruder at that time.
If the PJ were told about Madeleine’s crying, they have judged it to be as irrelevant to the case as if they were told that K & G had not belted Madeleine in the last time she was in a car with them.
It does, however, have every relevance to people judging how responsible they are as parents. And that was the issue that made them want to give their statement in Brussels.
CM wanted to spin that K & G had previously had a cosy confidential relationship with the PJ. But that obviously was not the case when they were made arguidos and Gerry said “no comment” to everything he was asked.
It seems to me that the gloves came off some time ago and that CM is becoming the master of back spin.

Stop the lift between floors and find an effective way of keeping it there - imagine - silence!
No access to the media. Bliss. The investigation could continue in a normal manner.

What would you do with the other hand?
April 15th, 2008 at 8:11 am
Poor Kate! After the tongue lashing, she then goes to stand in Madeleine’s bedroom to shed a few tears! Cobs wallop! It would be the McCann side that leaked whatever they wanted! IMO.

The repercussions of Maddie’s case in the PJ
An Editorial Comment
A year later, there still shock waves in the Maddie’s case. This time it was an incredible and farfetched story of a Spanish journalist who revealed supposed statements of Kate and Gerry McCann to the police. They provided for one more campaign of the English newspapers against the Portuguese police and a conference of their spokesman.
The hubbub caused also the alleged refusal of the McCanns to return to Portugal to do the re-enactment of the crime. And they helped to disturb the travel of the team of investigation to England to question the friends and to check their statements.
The Portuguese PJ yesterday issued a declaration to contradict that these evidences given by the Spanish journalist were part of the process. But, in the middle of the afternoon, the press release was not even available in the Internet pages of the English newspapers.
This happened exactly in the same newspapers that transcribed the information of the Spanish journalist, without checking the sources or questioning the supplier of the information. This type of procedure is also the reason of the lawsuit that the Englishman Robert Murat is going to put to eleven English newspapers: because they reproduced, without confirming, information that was in the Portuguese newspapers. An unethical method which simply undermines journalism in general. But that behaviour was, unfortunately, more than common in this strange and long case.
Judiciary contradicts ‘ Telecinco ‘ and the McCann’s spokesman
The relation between the parents of Madeleine McCann and the Judiciary Police (PJ) is more and more tense. After the couple’s spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, accused the chief-inspector Paulo Rebelo, responsible for the investigations on Maddie’s disappearance, of “leaks of information”, following the disclosure in a Spanish Television Channel (Telecinco) of a statement done by Kate McCann, it was now the time for the PJ to enter on stage and contradict what has been spread since last week.
In a declaration issued yesterday afternoon, the National Directory of the Judiciary explains that it is “entirely false that the contents of the news piece reproduces matter that is part of the inquiry, which is under judicial secrecy”. On the other hand, the PJ “cannot fail to lament the baseless intervention of the spokesman, especially at a moment when significant diligences to the investigation were being carried out”. The journalist of Telecinco, Nacho Abad, author of those news which are provoking so much controversy, said that he will answer, today, to the disclaim of the PJ, in his program to be aired around 12h00 – Spanish time.
To discredit the investigation
On the other side, the DN knows, that there is a conviction inside the PJ that it was the McCann’s spokesman, himself who “instigated and send the story” for the Spanish television, in order to “try to discredit the investigation and to find a pretext to avoid the re-enactment”.
Remember that Gerry and Kate McCann, in the last days, have send out a message that the conditions [demands] to return to Portugal with the objective to put into effect the pretended reconstitution by the PJ, about the fateful night of the 3rd of May of 2007, in which their daughter Madeleine disappeared from the Praia da Luz (Lagos), are not complied because details of their declarations given to the police were revealed. As well they demand the intervention of the Minister of the Justice.
The case, as DN previously told, originated in a news piece broadcasted on Wednesday, by Telecinco and was presented as an exclusive of this Spanish channel, reporting what Gerry and Kate McCann described to the PJ in the hours before Madeleine disappeared of the apartment of The Ocean Club, where the family was spending holidays, the daughter surprised them during the breakfast while questioning them: “Why you did not come when we were crying last night?”, in an allusion to own her and to her brother Sean. Still according to the Telecinco program, Kate guaranteed to the Judiciary Police, that after the critical observation of the daughter, the couple “decided to be more attentive to the children”.
Secret of justice prevails
So, when does the secret of justice end in the Madeleine case exactly? This is a question that, until know, nobody managed to give a right answer, especially when, for example, there was a persistent idea that yesterday, eleven months after been made the first arguido in this process, the British-Portuguese Robert Murat, for suspicion of being wrapped in the disappearance of the child, the process could be consulted by whomever wanted to do it. “It is all exactly the same and I do not find that strange. Who defines the terms for the lifting of the secret of justice is the Public Ministry “, said to the DN the lawyer of that arguido, Francisco Pagarete.
However the Council’s president of the Order of the Lawyers from the District of Faro, António Cabrita, in recent interviews to the DN, remembered that “the complexity of the process might lead the Public Ministry to determine that the same continues for more phases. António Cabrita told that when there are no imprisoned arguidos, the timings ” can be extended in function of the discovery of the truth “.

Whyis there no news?
How long does it take to discuss it menzies?
Will there be arrest letters? Or will they just go in and arrest with no warning?
What IS the next step?

I really believe the PJ.
Who knows if a third person made it up and gave this news to TVcinco?
Once El Mundo published that a witness wanted to change her/his statement and it was not true.
(maybe it was true last week).

Good morning Anorakians !!!
Interesting times.
Clarence making what may well be repeated libellous statements againstthe PJ.
The PJ……publishing…..a strong rebuttal of Clarence’s “baseless”
accusations on their Official Website following a meeting in Lisbon
between Alípio Ribeiro and Paulo Rebelo.
ASFIC publishing a very strong condemnation of Clarence’s behaviour
whilst in his role of mere “spokesman”.
And Mr Anjos, ASFIC President, adds the very clear and interesting
statement of “Finally it is known where the truth is”.
No wonder Clarence is going into mental meltdown.
Checkmate is only a matter of time…as the game is up. IMO

It is a beautiful morning and Mr. Mitchell
The gloves are off- the portuguese Police will taking your game.
They have done a great job- many thanks to this non corrupt officers for their hard work in this case through all the rubbish and the lies.
And after all, it open my eyes for a beautifull country and friendly people.

” …Who knows if a third person made it up…”
For me the point is that they have not denied it. And if they have not denied it, it may mean that it is true.
Which in turn means that it has come from a good source.
And that good source will, or may, have access to the rest, which is still officially under the laws of secrecy.

I can give you this link for Tauno Yliruusi: http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/yliruusi.htm
The key is his play “RIKOSETSIVIEN VAPAAPÄIVÄ”. However, it’s not the content of the play that is important to the Madeleine case, but the punchline. But I won’t reveal the punchline.
I have a german radio play version available of this play, so if you are interested…

If this is the case, those involved definitely are aware of this fact. How will they react?
Do the McCanns live alone with the twins in Rothley Manor or are there people watching them?
