Madeleine McCann: Clarence Mitchell’s Gloves, Portuguese Police Deny And Kate McCann’s Tears
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN: “McCann cops deny ‘smears’”
Those stories on Spanish television about what Kate and Gerry McCann are supposed to have said to the Portuguese police?
But last night, in only their fifth declaration since the case began, cops said it was “entirely false” to suggest they had been responsible.
But Clarence Mitchell, who has made a few more statements than five, senses a smear camping. Says he: “I am not retracting a word. The criticism of me doesn’t explain how confidential material came to be made public with curious timing.”
FERGUS SHANAHAN: “NO PEACE FOR POOR KATE”
“Never has such a terrible personal ordeal been played on so public a stage. Yet, every night, after the backbiters have done their worst, Kate must stand in Maddie’s silent bedroom and shed her tears in private.”
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE COPS: WE DIDN’T LEAK STORY”
“The Policia Judiciaria would like to make it clear that it is entirely false to suggest the content of the news item in question reproduces material from the inquiry, which is the subject of judicial secrecy.”
DAILY MAIL: “MADDIE WAR OF WORDS”
War?
“Now Portuguese police lash out at McCann aide over leak claim.”
A lash? Surely it’s more of a carefully constructed statement.
“The PJ regrets the baseless intervention of the spokesman, above all at a moment when significant moves were being made in the investigation.”
Forget Missing Madeleine. Stop watching the parents. This story is now about Clarence Mitchell.
DAILY EXPRESS: “Madeleine: Police hit back over leak claims”
Less of a war than a fight.
“Yesterday the officers were due to meet a prosecutor to discuss any new leads thrown up by the investigation. Instead, they spent their afternoon drafting the statement.”
Portuguese police are slow but thorough writers.
Says Clarence Mitchell: “I don’t want to get into a row with them.”
This is the same Clarence Mitchell who told us: “It’s the same old game. We know what they’re up to. We are not happy and the gloves are off.”
DIGITAL SPY: “Mad May returns to ‘EastEnders’”
EastEnders actress Amanda Drew is to reprise her controversial Walford role as warped Dr ‘Mad’ May Wright.
The 38-year-old actress will resurrect her sinister screen counterpart after almost a year’s break. Viewers last saw May tangled in the midst of Albert Square’s baby abduction storyline which led to her character’s exit from the soap.
Last year, BBC bosses made the decision to substantially re-write and re-film the ending to the storyline due to events surrounding Madeleine McCann in Portugal. The climax episode still attracted almost 200 complaints.
The plot saw May and husband Rob Minter (Stuart Laing) attempting to steal Dawn Swann’s (Kara Tointon) baby via a forced caesarian and came to a head with Drew’s character being arrested and subsequently sectioned.

1160 Think About It
Agree with your theory. I think Maddy was in trouble earlier than the 3rd. Something of course has gone terribly wrong here and there is a cover up by a lot of people. The PJ are not letting go are they. They are definitely on to something! I have been told to be careful what I say on here, so will be, but I do believe there would be a bad history regarding Madeleine. There is also the possibility that should facts get out, heads will roll like never seen before!!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 4:29 am
After following this story from the beginning there seems to be a likely scenario that would explain why the pj are not letting go. It is clear that someone was in that room. Possibly on the night before - and possibly abusing the child - the had woken up for a reason. On the last night, according to the reports, one of the friends checked on the children but said he didnt have a clear vew of Maddie and didn’t enter the room - impossible - every parent or acting parent checks to see if the child is covered. If the molester was in the apartment at that time and heard footstepts - he would have had to either tried to smother the childs’ cries, or hit her - hard to knock her out. It would explain the traces of blood. Anyway, realising that his DNA was all over the child - he waited - and picked up the child and carried her away with him. If she had been awake/alive she would have reached for her soft toy Cuddle Cat and the abductor would have given in to keep her quiet. The toy was left behind. The sighting by Jane Tanner seems to confirm that the child seemed asleep - something she has not strayed from since the beginning. But remember, if the abductor was a stranger - he would have had to enter and leave in the middle of a bustling tourist arena full of parents - twice! Un-noticed!. From there, there were sightings near the beach, where the dogs went, and more than likely she was dumped at sea. So I think it is safe to say that she was killed in the room. A fact that the parents have strongly denied since the dsicover and still do everything they can to not allow that possiblity into the light of day. The media, the fund, Metado 3 whose expertise are questionable , and now Mitchell- it goes on. Everything else since then has been a distraction. So back to the abuser/molester in the room - who was it?. Extensive investigation has turned up nothing but the PJ keeps returning to the group. They are not as incompetent as the Mcann team have led us to believe. The senior investigator on the case now is well respected - and even he - won’t let go. Why? Was it one of them? Why do thier stories not add up? Why did they allow all those people in the room. These are smart people. They refused to accept that the child was killed in the room - but the facts do seriously point to that - and the new investigation team are not letting this fact go. PS - I think Kate is innocent.

“It is logically impossible to disprove a negative, which is why no legal system requires litigants to do so.
Madeleine could have been abducted by little grey aliens from the planet Splog; no judge would accept that as a reason to believe that she had been, in the absence of evidence to prove that she had been.No police force can ever disprove the billions of possible series of events. They can, however, set about trying to prove a positive, but to do that they need to gather as much evidence as possible. And in fairness to other posters here who may sometimes seem somewhat inflammatory, not everybody can look at the disappearance of a small child dispassionately…”
In fairness to those who are receiving the brunt of that passion, perhaps it would be wise to take a leaf out of the book of the said police force and await some real evidence, before the burnings and dunkings. I don’t think any police force would concern themselves with some of the possible series of events suggested by some posters. They are about as likely as little grey aliens from the planet Splog working with the police to solve the case.
It is insulting in my opinion to those who wisely wish to refrain from unsound attacks on the McCann family, to call them dispassionate.

Its very important actually. I believe it was the McCanns and Clarence via M3. I hope that Nachos is called to account for it, he chose when to releas it after all, did he not? He is a McCann supporter is he not?
Why is it so hard for everyone to make the connection?! Carlos Nachos chose the time - CARLOS NACHOS CHOSE THE TIME!

The leak is not that important to the investigation. I don’t think that “the police” did leak it. It might have been someone who had access to it at any time. Could have been a translator, or a typist. I don’t read too much into it.

I’m simply intrigued by the leak and wonder who was responsible, that’s all!
Good night.

I guess it was. Or maybe my memory is bad. Or both.

“Many thanks! Not that I usually take the Sun as my guide!!! But this does seem plausible. Can’t imagine CM leaking such a damaging bit of info.”
It’s not that damaging, is it? But it makes no sense for the McCanns exactly to leak it during the Brussels event. It would however make sense to leak it if you are anti-amber-alert.
April 16th, 2008 at 2:18 am
Nacos refuses to tell us his source and yet people believe him when he says it wasnt Clarence or the McCanns?
Illogical aint it?

I liked Madison very much, and also Burlington, VT. I have a friend from Ann Arbor who tells me I’d like it there.
Anyway, 2am. Off to my bed.

Then you are more naive than I thought. How can Nachos be trusted? He is withholding information.
They know its going to come out, much worse in fact. I dont think Maddie and Shaun werent crying, it was Shaun and Amelie. I dont think they were calling ‘Daddy’, but ‘Maddie’.
You have to realise, the truth is a hell of a lot worse than this ‘leak’.

“Do you believe this?”
Why shouldn’t I? I don’t think that the leak has to do with the McCann case. It would make sense to leak it for someone who wants to undermine the political plans for the amber alert system - to neutralize the Brussels PR event.

It’s been years since I’ve been in Winnepeg, but I love the Manitobans.
Madison is one of my top 5 favorite cities in the US!
I am a small city sort of person, but I love the combination of a great university, a state capital city, and a progressive politics. It’s a great place. Highly recommended.

I think you have to look at what Nacho originally said to understand the wording of the PJ’s statement.
Nacho claimed that he had a transcript of interviews with the police which he had obtained from the police.
Clarence claimed that the transcript must have come from the police.
The police have said that it didn’t.
Context is all…
——————————————————————————
chenier, you probably won’t see this, it being so late (have had friends round last couple of evenings) but if you do, I’d be really grateful for a link for this bit of info.
You may remember I mentioned it yesterday and Carmen warned me to give a link. I didn’t see the warning but couldn’t have given a link anyway because a friend had simply told me she’d seen an interview with Nacho (think it was Sky) in which he’d claimed the transcript came from the police, BUT she (friend) wasn’t 100% sure because she hadn’t been paying that much attention.
However, it was this, together with the Daily Mail’s report that Ribeiro had apologised for the leaks, that made me think CM was probably correct in his surmise, although I think professional discretion should have urged to be much more careful with the way he expressed his thoughts! I should know better than to believe implicitly anything the Daily Mail says, though!
Anyway, if you happen to have a link which shows Nacho making this claim, false or otherwise, I’d be grateful. I realise he is seen as a Mc supporter and I did read somewhere, as well as it being said (I was told) in this same Sky interview, that he has stated he believes them to be innocent. Not sure about that! Would he have revealed this damaging leak if he really did believe that? Possibly, I suppose.
I’ve tried to trawl through Sky but can find no sign of this interview.
I have not read many posts this evening, so if you have already posted a link for this, my apologies if I’ve missed it.
I’ll be out at work from early morning tomorrow but will look in later. Thanks.

Hey, what a coincidence!
I had never heard of Jesse Ventura until two days ago There was a Q on ‘University Challenge’ (like ‘College Bowl’) about three celebrity mayors - Sonny Bono, Clint Eastwood and Jesse Ventura.
I worked music tours for a while, and on that one, we did the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Northrop Auditorium in Minn, then Madison, and Chicago in four days.

Nice city, really. Very civilized. Very progressive.
Although I think Minnesota started losing it when they elected Jesse Ventura (a pro wrestler), governor. That’s the Iowa part of my alter ego speaking!

I am somewhere along the Minnesota/Iowa border.
I am rsometimes reluctant to give my precise whereabouts.
Not sure why.
South of Winnipeg is technically correct!
We did get a lot of snow. Hard winter.
It has melted at last and I am in the raptures of spring!
