Carlos Anjos, president of Portugal’s Police Federation, says of Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman: “He lies with as many teeth as he has in his mouth.”
The accused the former BBC man of leaking police statements Kate and Gerry made within hours of Maddie disappearing last May. These were aired on Spanish TV last week. Anjos said the aim was to give the McCanns an excuse not to attend a reconstruction.
Says Mr Mitchell: “It is categorically untrue that I leaked them. There was absolutely no benefit for us to do that.”

“It was going to be called Madeleine McCann, but now ITV1’s exclusive, has a longer name: Madeleine, One Year On: Campaign for Change. At the end of the day what we know is that the McCanns left night after night Madeleine with 3 years old and the twins, babies with 2 years old alone, in an unlocked apartment while they partied with their friends, and that is against the law in Portugal.

….Have they noticed that Clarence never claimed that the police have leaked the statements, but asked “that the Portuguese Ministry of Justice investigate whether the transcripts were deliberately passed” (quoted from The Times). Not quite the same.

I’m not supporting him, I am trying to analyse the situation. The best answer from the police would be to present a watertight case. This would redundantise libel suits.

Well, I wish you are right. As I said, it was always my hope that the PJ tactics would make some sense in the end. But the media battle suggests to me that the case is virtually closed and the aftermath has started.

He clearly slandered them. Nobody had any doubt as to the object of his sneering. The specific words would not defend him in a court of law, I beleive the evidence is sufficient to support a claim on the basis of the balance of probabilities. He cannot shut them out like the despicable James Whale can on a talk show.

I have just checked the exact wording in several papers, but found nothing to that amount. He asked for an investigation, that’s all I have found.

Correct. The position is that the information was created by Kate for private investigators hired by the McCanns. It, specifically ‘it’, not the information within it, was held by those investigators, or the McCanns. The source was one or the other of those ‘entities’.
It was a blatant smear attempt by Clarence (as their, the McCanns, voice) on the Portuguese PJ. He is in deep shit and he had totally destroyed the McCann machines credibility.
He should publicly be removed - as he would be if he were in government. It will be very interesting to see where he goes if he is removed. If he returns to his previous role it will be proof of secondment.

You need to get your thoughts in order. Carlos Anjos is not close to the investigation. His area is the protection of his ‘members’ - he is head of the police federation.
You cannot ‘dis him’ on one hand as irrelevant whilst on the other hand use him to claim the investigation is not making headway. I disregard his comments on the case itself, but accept his points regarding the legal disciplining of Clarence the spin doctor.

The real bombshell here is that Clarence Mitchell has been perverting the course of justice, spreading lies and spins, and he will be sued by the Judiciary Officers after the process of Madeleine case is over.
Nacho Abad the telecinco journalist, who appeared with the exclusive ‘leak’ on one of the worst daily talk shows in the Spanish TV, brought down is own reputation, he never said what the source for that information was and now we know the leak most likely came from a company hired by the McCanns or it came from team McCann:
“Besides, the British police also know that Kate’s declarations, about her difficult relationship with the daughter, are not in the process. When the Spanish TV channel reproduced them a PJ’s team was in Leicester, in the period in which the McCann’s friends were heard, and the English authorities confirmed to be Kate’s account to the private investigators. It is a company that worked for the couple before the Metódo3 agency and, in the end, they printed a report where these sentences are in. According to our sources, only three parts kept copies of these documents: the company, the McCanns and the British authorities.”
At the end of the day what we know is that the McCanns left night after night Madeleine with 3 years old and the twins, babies with 2 years old alone, in an unlocked apartment while they partied with their friends, and that is against the law in Portugal. Then we know about the DNA, the blood stains, the cleaning of the apartment, the bodily fluids found in the car, the cadaver dogs finding scent of corpse in the two apartments where the McCanns stayed, in Kate’s pants, in the plush toy, inside the McCann’s car, and the scent map the dogs ‘made’ from their houses to the beach. The result of the McCanns actions was tragic. And the delays to resolve this case were very much in the hands of the British Home Office. 6 months to accept the rogatory letters… imagine if it was an European Arrest Warrant?

Yes i agree that it has a ‘Metodo 3′ feel about it! however, this is being translated dont forget. Also dont forget that even if the PJ dont have court admissible evidence and the clever lawyers employed by the McCanns stop the Holy Ones of PDL being prosecuted, their guilt regarding abuse of parenthood and neglect of their children is firmly rooted in the public psyche now. They will forever be ‘amber gamblers’.
You remind me though, surely someone should be called to account for that false and hurtful Christmas claim?
Also dont get confused, just because a man manages to accrue a fortune through somewhat dubious business practices does not mean he is ’safe’ from the rule of law, any more than governments are.

It’s not only the Telegraph article. It’s also the remarkable attacks of Sr. Anjos. Although he is not involved in the investigation, but he speaks as leader of the police federation.
The police should never attack the spokespersons of parties involved in an investigation via the media, the way Sr. Anjos did. It would put their impartiality into question if they also had a case to present.
Only if they have no case anyway, a frustration foul doesn’t matter…

That is just a hard fact of life, the odds of justice for Madeleine of whatever hue, diminish by the minute. It appears as many of us suspected that the scandal, the cover up and the answers are in Portugal, I still think the priest has the answers, but I will post no more on the subject, frankly it is a waste of time, ever increasing circles.
