Madeleine McCanns: Police Will Solve Case, Or Not, Maybe

madeleine-mccann Madeleine McCanns: Police Will Solve Case, Or Not, Maybe MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann

DAILY MIRROR: “’We’ll get result on Madeleine McCann’, say Portuguese police”

Faro police chief Guilhermino Encarnacao promised the investigation would “bring results, whoever they hurt”… Dr Encarnacao said: “Everything’s going well. The inquiries carried out in the UK are progressing in the best way possible.”

Sow here is Madeleine McCann? Don’t keep us waiting…

Says the president of Portugal’s Bar Association, Antonio Marinho e Pinto: “They have reached a dead end and don’t know how to admit it.”

NEWS & STAR: “Leak was proof of McCanns’ innocence”

It has now emerged that Maddie sobbed for her mother the night before she vanished. “Mummy, why didn’t you come when we were crying last night,’’ said the little girl to her mother the night before she vanished.

It is Kate herself who told the police what her daughter had said. I doubt that a guilty mother would have dreamed of being so honest in her statement to the police.

The police leak may have been meant to damn the McCanns but Kate McCann’s admission was that of an innocent.

Case closed.

THE GUARDIAN: “Drugs firm attacks Sunday Express splash”

A drugs company is demanding a full correction over last weekend’s splash in the Sunday Express that made allegations about a medical trial going wrong.

Parexel has written to the paper asking for a correction over the story, headlined “Drugs test scandal returns”, claiming it contained “false and erroneous information”.

But what has it to do with Madeleine McCann?

Last month, the Sunday Express and Richard Desmond’s three other Express Newspapers titles carried front-page apologies and paid £550,000 in damages to Gerry and Kate McCann over a string of inaccurate stories about the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine.

The Sunday Express, Daily Express and Daily Star are also among 11 UK national newspapers being sued by Robert Murat, the first formal suspect to be named last year in the Madeline McCann case.

Never miss a chance to do your rivals down.

PJ of Portimão takes legal action against McCann’s spokesman

    Controversy: Kate’s statement to detectives

The declarations of Kate McCann remembering a conversation with her daughter Maddie, on the day in which she disappeared, on the fact that in the previous night Kate left the girl crying in the bedroom are not in the official process secured by the Judiciary Police, established the CM. They were reproduced by the Spanish TV channel Telecinco, the journalist Nacho Abad says to have proofs that they are true - but they are accounts given by Kate to private detectives.

The process continues in secrecy of justice, but, ‘on the day that the process is opened to the public, it will be easy to prove that those declarations are not there ‘, said a source close to the investigations. Therefore, this leak of information could never have appeared from inside the Judiciary Police.

‘On the day in which this situation is clarified accurately ‘, Clarence Mitchell will be the target of a process for the damages caused against the image of the elements of the Department of Criminal Investigation of Portimão, after they had been ‘unfairly accused’ by the McCann’s spokesman of passing informations that are part of the process to the Media.

Besides, the British police also know that Kate’s declarations, about her difficult relationship with the daughter, are not in the process. When the Spanish TV channel reproduced them a PJ’s team was in Leicester, in the period in which the McCann’s friends were heard, and the English authorities confirmed to be Kate’s account to the private investigators. It is a company that worked for the couple before the Metódo3 agency and, in the end, they printed a report where these sentences are in. According to our sources, only three parts kept copies of these documents: the company, the McCanns and the British authorities.

The problems with the international press do not end, yesterday, it was the Telegraph turn to advance declarations from Guilhermino Encarnação, where after a meeting with the Public Prosecutor, would have said that ‘The investigation will bring its results, whoever they hurt ‘, a source close to the to the responsible of the Faro’s PJ guarantees to the CM that none of this is true.

    DETAILS

    ASFIC SUPPORTS PROCESS

Contacted by the ‘CM’, the president of the Criminal Investigation Officers’ Union, Carlos Anjos, guarantees to be available for the whole legal support that the investigators of Portimão need if they understand to sue the McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell, McCann, for damages against the image of the department.

    RE-ENACTMENT

Carlos Anjos believes that the controversy created around Kate’s declarations, with accusations to the PJ for the eventual leak of information which damages the couple credibility, ‘is nothing more than a stratagem in order that they do not have to collaborate with the Portuguese justice’. In question there is a re-enactment of the crime, requested by the PJ but that, according to the couple’s spokesman, will only happen if they stop being arguidos.

Telecinco Journalist refutes the Judiciary Police statement

The denial of the Judiciary Police (PJ), in a declaration issued on Monday, to the news piece aired by the TV channel Spanish Telecinco, where it was revealed an alleged statement of Kate McCann given to the police, a statement that would be under the secrecy of justice, where Kate criticized her daughter Madeleine, just a few hours before the girl disappeared on the 3rd of May of 2007, from the Ocean Club, in Praia da Luz, near to Lagos, deserve a reaction from the author of the surprising revelation.

In declarations, yesterday to the DN, the journalist Nacho Abad reaffirmed that it “is truthful” the content of the information disclosed by the Spanish TV channel, guaranteeing to have access to documents that can prove it.

“It surprises me that the McCann family says that it is true and that the Portuguese police say that it is false. But I do not want to take part in any battle between the McCanns and the PJ. I am going to keep on doing my work and try to find the truth about Madeleine’s disappearance “emphasized Nacho Abad.

The journalist denied to have had as a source the McCann’s spokesman, Clarence Mitchell - a conviction inside the PJ who thought that this situation was instigated in order to try to discredit the investigation and to find a pretext to avoid the re-enactment of the events in the night in which the child disappeared - or the Spanish agency of detectives Método3, hired since September 2007 by the McCanns. And he didn’t say anything further, stating that: “Obviously, I have to protect my source”.

The case originated in a news piece aired last week by Telecinco about an alleged statement where Gerry and Kate McCann described to the PJ that hours before Madeleine had disappeared, their daughter questioned them on their absence in the previous night.

President of the Bar Association criticizes PJ

On the other side, in accordance with the TV Globe’s Site, the President of the Bar, António Marinho Pinto, affirmed, on Monday, in a meeting in Lisbon with international correspondents, that the PJ ” failed to recognize the lack of advancements in the Madeleine McCann’s case”, having the investigation of the case, in his perspective, arrived to “a dead end” and that “the police is unable to acknowledge that fact”. For Marinho Pinto, the PJ dedicated the first months of the investigation “sending messages through the press about who were the guilty persons”.

In this period, remembered the President of the Bar, the headlines of the press “were implying” that Gerry and Kate McCann were involved in Madeleine’s disappearance, reinforcing in this sense criticism to the police actions in a country where much “is investigated for the newspapers”, besides existing, in some cases, “frictions” between the different forces of national security.

Joana Cipriano’s Case Back in Court

The coordinator of the Judiciary Police (PJ) that led the investigation to the Joana Cipriano’s case, Gonçalo Amaral, presented a criminal complaint for slander against the lawyer Marcos Aragão Correia. In question is a report that the lawyer spread in the Internet, after a visit to Leonor Cipriano in the Odemira penitentiary, where she serves a sentence for the murder and corpse’s occultation of her own daughter.

In the report, Aragão Correia says to be “convinced” that the recluse was victim of “a crime of torture perpetrated by PJ officers”. The lawyer had a meeting, with the director of the prison, Ana Calado, and revealed excerpts of the conversation. “She confirmed, with courage, what Leonor Cipriano had reported to me”. According to Aragão Correia, the person in charge of the penitentiary told that “a team of two inspectors of Lisbon” tried to negotiate” a distribution of blames, between the PJ and the penitentiary, regarding the aggressions”. Another ex-inspector of the PJ, Paulo Pereira Cristóvão, who contributed to the investigation, also presented a criminal complaint.

In the process of the aggressions the Leonor, Amaral is accused of omission of denunciation and false evidence, and Cristóvão of crime of torture. The JN knows that the lawyer of Gonçalo Amaral, António Cabrita, will make a complaint of the colleague to the Order of the Lawyers. In spite of the various attempts to contact the lawyer, it was not possible to get in touch with Aragão Correia.

Note: Marcos Aragão Correia is the same lawyer who said that he knew Madeleine’s body was in the dam of the Arade, in Silves. Marcos Aragão Correia asked around 5 thousand euros to pay the searches in the dam , and in return, he promised to publicise the name of the companies to all the Portuguese and foreign media that covered the searches. “The exclusive sponsor benefits from huge, unique publicity”, said the lawyer at the time.

Marcos apparently told Método3 that Madeleine’s body was in the Arade’s dam following”an underworld tip-off”, later on this man was exposed as a fantastist. A source close to the inquiry revealed at the time: “When we asked him what he was basing his evidence on, he said, ‘I had a dream’.” From the search only some cat bones, a sock, several ropes, a plastic bag were found, all this material went to Barcelona, were the Método3 agency is supposed to be analysing the discoveries.

Karen Matthews, mother of Shannon Matthews, is following in the footsteps of the McCanns and hiring a former newsreader to be her family’s spokesperson.

Unlike the McCanns though, who are represented by former BBC correspondent Clarence Mitchell, the Matthews clan have only been able to secure the services of Betty Baps, who used to present topless news on L!VE TV.

In her first briefing as spokeswoman for the Matthews family, Miss Baps said “Alright, dahlin?! Kazza Matthews is a well good mum, innit tho? She’s a pucker parent. She never knew nuffink about her boyf Craig being a perv.”

When asked to comment on the charges brought against Karen Matthews for child neglect and perverting the course of justice, she said “Oy! I ain’t got nuffink to say about that. It’s all legalistic and thing. But she ain’t no perverting. That’s her boyf!”

We tried to explain that perverting the course of justice has nothing to do with sexual perversion but Miss Baps just offered to show us her breasts.

“It’s all for a good cause. We want Shanna back with her mum where she belongs, kind of thing. Kazza’s innocent. She is the People’s Pram Face.”

    New company questioned

Few days after having announced the replacement of the Spanish detectives, Metodo 3, by Hogan International, a British company, the McCanns are already criticized for their choice. It’s the British company itself that reported to the British press that they have no experience in this type of investigation, being themselves almost exclusively devoted in the locating of missing heirs.

The McCanns bring in cold-case detectives to investigate

The McCanns have hired a detective who investigated a 7/7 suicide bomber. Noel Hogan is conducting a “cold case” review.
The former Met detective superintendent, who runs the agency Hogan International, in Farnham said: “I have been reinterviewing witnesses that were out in Portugal at the time.”
It is understood these include friends of the McCanns.
Hogan International was investigating Jermaine Lindsay in the run-up to the 7 July attacks in London in 2005 after a bank became alarmed by his spending patterns

New detectives hired by the McCanns are criticized

A former Scotland Yard detective hired to search for Madeleine McCann is conducting a private murder investigation to discredit police evidence against her parents.
But last night fears were raised that Noel Hogan might not be up to the job.
Mr Hogan, who runs a private detective agency, has re-interviewed British witnesses including the McCanns holiday friends.

He is also understood to have gone through the McCanns’ own statements in minute detail with the couple.
In a startling twist, Kate and Gerry’s lawyers have ordered that their own inquiry into Madeleine’s disappearance, while on holiday in Portugal last May, should focus on the theory that the three-year-old was killed and her body hidden.
Hogan International, which specialises in asset investigations, is taking over the case after the McCanns benefactors voiced dismay at the lack of tangible progress made by the Spanish agency Metodo 3.
Sources close to the inquiry say the two firms have a history of rivalry after previously clashing over conflicting investigations.
