Madeleine McCann: Josef Fritzl, Tabloid Bingo And Watching Kate McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR (front page): “We’ll find Madeleine ourselves”
It is the McCanns’ “EXTRAORDINARY VOW”.
Any news of Metodo 3, the sleuths who would find Madeleine by last Christmas?
TWINS IN VOW TO FIND SIS - MISSING MADELEINE McCANN: ONE YEAR ON
The McCanns’ three-year-old twins Sean and Amelie have promised their grieving parents they will rescue their missing big sister.
Well, why not let them have a go?
Says Gerry McCann: “Madeleine is everywhere in our lives.” All our lives.
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “’One year on, we’re no closer to finding Maddy’”
Says Kate McCann: “There has been that much speculation in a lot of the media, particularly the written press. It’s taking away people searching for Madeleine.”
Says Kate McCann, and not Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ media handler.
POLO SHIRTS (a company selling T-shirts): “T-Shirts can be very valuable tools in helping to find missing children. Think about how many people see you each and every day. If you are wearing a T-shirt with the picture of a missing child on it then all of those people are also seeing the child and, hopefully, watching for her everywhere that they go. In the case of Madeleine McCann, the sale of T-Shirts is also helping to raise money for Madeleine’s fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned.”
Let’s hear it for the T-shirts!
GLASGOW DAILY RECORD: “Tragedy Breeds Tourism”
It is a year since Madeleine McCann vanished.
Madeleine McCann and Josef Fritzl? We’ve already had the McCanns and Elisabeth Fritzl. There’s a link? Joan Burnie sees one..
The apartment from which the then three-year-old disappeared has now become a sick tourist attraction, where people take their own kiddies to be photographed where once Madeleine slept.
Next year, can we expect the Austrian Tourist Board to promote tours of the dungeon in which Josef Fritzl incarcerated and abused his daughter?
THE SUN: “Dungeon rescue gives me hope”
Madeleine McCann and Elisabeth Fritzl? A link?
MISSING Madeleine McCann’s mum told yesterday how the astonishing rescue of Austrian dungeon girl Elisabeth Fritzl has given her fresh hope that her daughter is still alive.
Kate, 40, said that hearing how Elisabeth was saved after 24 years imprisonment renewed her belief that little Maddie may also be held captive somewhere.
It’s Tabloid Bingo! Bingo! Bingo!
METRO: “Dungeon fear for Maddy”
THE GUARDIAN: “Fritzl case proves long-term missing can re-emerge, say McCanns”
The couple had taken hope from the case of Elisabeth Fritzl, the Austrian woman whose father locked her in a cellar beneath his house for 24 years, and fathered seven children with her, said Gerry McCann.
DAILY MAIL (front page): “Kate: one year on: A portrait of torment”
Kate McCann is a “GP”.
DAILY TELEGRAPH (front page): “MADELEINE JUST FEELS VERY CLOSE”
Kate McCann:
It’s a sense, really. Madeleine just feels very close. It’s more of a kind of sensation that she’s there. You try to be objective and think, ‘Is that just because I’m her mum and I want to believe it?’ But it hasn’t changed.

Truly a coffee-through-the-nose moment….I have just read in my local paper “McCanns fear Madeleine being held underground” !! oh…puhleeeeeze !! Roll out the Bandwaggon !!!!!!!

Perhaps at some point it will dawn on the McCanns that the relevant point is that the Fritzl childen were grossly abusedby their own father.
This is not the sort of subliminal message you want to get across…

Good morning (all)
I saw that interview. It was unbelievable. Like they were just asked a ludicrous question. And her mouth twisting down, the looking up - like they heard something unbelievable. The clinking noise she makes with her mouth.
They love their celeb status tho….as for ‘looking frail’ - far from it yesterday
IMO etc
(sorry just posted this on other thread )

That would indicate a capacity for clear thought and reasoning, not something they have yet proven to be capable of…All they seem to do is jump on the next Bandwaggon and align themselves with the people involved with the next tragic disappearance of a child.
They don’t seem to be able to grasp the fact that children disappear all the time, it is unimaginable I know, and I would never, ever, have wanted to be in that position, doesn’t bear thinking about, but I have never yet seen such a circus as these two seem to have managed to generate, and all the hangers-on like Clarrie who have made a mint out of what is a truly horrendous tragedy.
The McConns act like - for want of a better word - celebrities or Royalty or something and latch on to every fresh case. I have memories of children like April Fabb - a local girl, who just disappeared into thin air. Local opinion was that because at the time the Bacton Gas Terminal was being built, she was buried in one of the pipe trenches but her poor old Mum never got THIS amount of attention and help, financial or otherwise “!!

That seems appt these days.

The McCanns are grasping at any straw to feed their hope that Madeleine is alive.
Any child who returns after being abducted gives them strength.
Isn’t this a natural reaction?

so much for amber alert.
A child rescue alert can only be made when the missing child is aged under 16, and police believe he or she has been abducted and is in danger of serious harm.
On the occasions they have been used, one baby was found under a bed at home after it was missed in an initial search.
In the second case, a child was reported abducted after the car it was strapped into was stolen by thieves. It was later found unharmed in the abandoned car.
The third alert involved a report of an abduction made by a child witness where police eventually found no evidence any crime had taken place.

i still can’t believe the papers think it’s a great idea for anyone who has given police info about the events in pdl to ring up the suspects and tell them as well.

Morning Everyone,
I just have to have a quick rant about GMTV, this morning they were in PDL and saying that since M’s dissapearance ‘we have all had to think about our childcare on holiday differently’
like we all leave our kids on their own….i’m furious….don’t think i’m going to watch GMTV ever again!!!

…………………………………………………
Ok - but do they have to do it so publicly ? and with all the razzamatazz and hammy acting and so on ? all they are doing is alienating themselves from the very people who may have been inclined to help them and - sadly - the whole raison d’etre - i.e. Madeleine, seems to have faded into the background. I have just looked again at the photos above of Kate and she doesn’t look very distraught to me, looks like she has been taking lessons at RADA !!

I think you have to bear in mind that it’s difficult to get any worthwhile figures on children going missing. We can all think of anecdotal cases, but without some decent research, yet to be done, we have no idea whether it’s increasing, staying steady, or going down.
One obvious thing about the McCanns is that they appear to be wholly oblivious to the idea that hard cases make bad law.
How the hell they got through the entire evidence based medicine bit is beyond me…
May 2nd, 2008 at 9:28 am
morning all
So basically this new campaign is about people who have gone to the pj need to contact the mccs and tell them what they know, is that why gerry said they have set aside resources for this! Why on earth are they spending 50k a month on private detectives!

This is not about them. Its about reminding everyone about Madeleine.
Most children who are ‘found’ are spotted by a member of the public who is familiar with the case.
I gather that you don’t like the McCanns, but if you saw Madeleine would that stop you from contacting the police?

The McCanns aren’t asking people to call the police.
They are asking them to call the McCanns on yet another premium rate phone line…

Like I said they are grasping at straws to give them hope.
It is natural, the eldest Fritzl daughter went missing, was held against her will and is now free. I doubt that the McCanns see beyond those facts.

Exactly Matt, Clarrie couldn’t say it enough times, “just send money in an envelope”, “It doesn’t even matter if you don’t have the full address, it will make it’s way there” !!!

I don’t know why but it has been widely reported that the McCanns do not trust the Portuguese Police.
I’d assume that the relationship has broken down and they are just desperate for information.
I don’t agree with all their strategies but they have to do what they feel is right.

When did Mr Mitchell say this? I didn’t hear that?
However remember that their search for their daughter costs money and Mr. Mitchell is not a McCann.
