Madeleine McCann: Daily Express Editor Stands Down And a Joke
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE GUARDIAN: “PEOPLE”
Meanwhile, a current editor, Peter Hill of the Daily Express, stood down yesterday from the Press Complaints Commission, not entirely coincidentally following the company’s recent £550,000 payout to the family of Madeleine McCann for publishing false stories about them.
The donation, right?
The PCC’s chairman, Christopher Meyer, had said Hill’s position was under review following the Express’s apology
THE IRISH TIMES: “Comedy controversies: all in the worst possible taste - Some of the gags that attracted most opprobrium.”
Sean Hughes on Madeleine McCann
At a show last year, Irish comic Sean Hughes noted how the parents of missing child Madeleine McCann had visited the Pope in the Vatican. “I know the Pope was in the Hitler Youth, but I don’t think he has anything to do with Madeleine’s disappearance,” he said.
A joke should be funny. Try this one, or this one. Or this one…
Subsequent newspaper reports struck the tone “comedian thinks Madeleine McCann is game for a laugh”, and RTÉ’s Liveline programme fielded phone calls saying the comic should have been banned from performing in Ireland.
Hughes should be ignored - becsue he’s not all that funny.

Sky news,
Husband of “missing” make-up artist Diane Chenery-Wickens to appear in court charged with her murder.
Guess who reported her ‘Missing’ 4 months ago.
Keep looking at the close family. And follow the money.

‘I bet they’re all out there. Sitting quietly, hunched over their keyboards - like contestants on ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’ - waiting for a new thread to start. They’ve been practising typing ‘1st’ and are waiting ready to stab their keyboards to see who can type the fastest and win that precious accolade. Something to be proud of. To be entered on your CV.’
:-D, good morning all.

Second thoughts.
I bet they’re all out there. To be entered on your CV.
No wonder they haven’t got time to talk to us. They’re scared they’ll be distracted and miss their chance to be 1st on a new thread

As long as you understand the first arguido, will still be an arguido, when the fragrant and loving couple are not, why you all seem to avoid that obvious point is not a puzzle to me in the least.
May 17th, 2008 at 7:34 am
I think they’re scared of us.
Shall we pretend we’re not here and see what happens?
May 17th, 2008 at 7:29 am
Come on Anorak, you old git, shake a leg.

Now there’s another one popped up.

P.S. what do you call a bunch of Moderators hanging around waiting for someone to post a comment?
May 17th, 2008 at 7:06 am

Good morning VQ,
Still awake?
May 17th, 2008 at 5:43 am
VQ
Looks like the answer to your question is - No
Not quite 5.30 am in the UK and Portugal.
Around 6.30 am in rest of Europe
Seems most folk still in their beds. Jo is generally an early riser so she should be along soon if you can hang on a bit longer.
I’m just off to the Park myself with the dogs so you may need to entertain yourself for the next 30 minutes or so
Cheers!
