Find Madeleine McCann On Facebook

maddy2 Find Madeleine McCann On FacebookMADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
SAY the McCanns: “We strongly support and encourage this new initiative to use Facebook to increase awareness of missing children.”

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, you will know that children go missing.

Although not if you’re watching the TV news of reading the newspapers because Madeleine McCann is no longer in the mass media.

But the campaign has not been in vain. She is on a press release.

And the better news is that no children have gone missing in the past few weeks. We look through the mainstream press every day. It’s a fact. But what of life on the internet?
The statement goes on: “Using the power of social media in this way will undoubtedly capture the attention - and hopefully the help - of a younger population who are a hugely valuable and resourceful group.

“We would urge the millions of Facebook users around the world to keep looking and to do what they can to help bring these children home.”

Missing People has set up a widget for Facebook users to download, which will mean information on current appeals will be displayed on their homepage.

Says missing People Chief Executive Paul Tuohy: “If every Facebook user downloaded our BT-powered application, millions of people internationally could see an appeal that could help us to reunite a family.”

Because BT cares…

But only yesterday you were quoting Missing People and PACT as saying that one child went missing every 5 minutes, 12 per hour, 288 a day, and therefore over two thousand a week.

You can’t both be right ! Do pay attention to what you are told by the media. They’re always reliable, as we all know.

-what really really happened between may 2nd and may 3rd?

PACT says a child goes missing every five minutes. Missing People says (in their email banner which you can download with their details) that a child is “reported missing” every five minutes.

Maybe they accept that a lot of the reports are incorrect but still think it’s dramatic to keep the headline?!

Anyway, it’s sad to see how little publicity there has been in the media for Missing Children Day.

Nevertheless, the Missing People initiative seems to be a positive one. Can’t do any harm anyway.

Also gives some Anorakers (at last!) another reason to mock the Mcs for supporting it!

The Mcs also support the campaign by PACT and Missing People to have an EU-wide child alert system which will improve on the current disparate ones.

This is from Missing Children Europe. Missing People is the UK member of Missing Children Europe.

“The need to (1) develop child alert systems for child abductions or life threatening disappearances of children in countries where no system exists and (2) develop co-ordination procedures and interconnection schemes between existing systems is considered a top priority for Missing Children Europe.

    Problem Addressed

“Child Alert” systems, such as the Amber Alert Hellas in Greece or the Alerte Enlèvement in France, aim at urgently mobilising the public in the search for a missing child by issuing an immediate and simple message. They are used only in cases of extreme emergency or where the life of the child may potentially be at risk. Child Alert systems are inexpensive as the use already existing channels of communications.

While systems developed in several countries of the EU have proven their efficiency, only a minority of the Members States have this effective tool at their disposal in emergency cases of life threatening disappearances of children. In addition, while similar systems have been launched in several countries, these systems are not sufficiently identical to co-operate smoothly in cross-border cases.
Today, when children go missing in most countries of the EU, these low cost and high impact Child Alert systems can not yet be launched. In other cases, where a country does have such a system at its disposal, the public is informed only within the borders of the country, while the child might be in very close proximity of national border and is in some cases very likely to be in another Member State, where the public is not informed of the disappearance.”

None of this has anything to do with the Mcs, except that PACT publicly welcomed their support for the campaign which PACT and Missing Children Europe have endeavoured to support in recent years.

(M and A : It’s my opinion that the Mcs support this, based on their Brussels visit etc.)

    Mods and Admin

Maria , I can see you are clearly impressed by the McC lending support, but I think that might carry a lot more weight if they had used babysitters - you know the old fashioned way of leaving children when you go out. Its all shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted….

Perhaps “some Anorakers”, feel, as too perhaps do many of the General Public,
that they,by their “support” of suchlike, are doing the mocking.

    considering this;
‘Says missing People Chief Executive Paul Tuohy: “If every Facebook user downloaded our BT-powered application, millions of people internationally could see an appeal that could help us to reunite a family.”’

and the fact that the banner and application are there but only has 8 users, it does sound like an advertisement doesn’t it. haven’t found the missing people widget though.

The mccs should just shut up and not try to “wash” themselves in public, making “theirs” initiatives and projects who di not ask them anything at all.
And people are FED UP and angry with them….

Read. This is from a french association

“Coups de gueule de l’association face à autant d’absurdités!”

The french association ” Les Enfants Kidnappés” is ANGRY.
This is what the tiltle says
The article will also answer questions about reconstruction et all but people are starting to be really fed up with them
This is an interesting site but all in french,so….any translators around?

“It is the disappearance of a child and not a marketing product! As a professional police world, knowing perfectly techniques, knowing perfectly the profile of predators, kidnappers etc, we are shocked by Mr. Clarence Mitchell”s words! There is no reconstitution of a criminal investigation underway by a television channel! No actors in the world will never replace the real protagonists in a reconstruction!
Mr Mitchell should learn to differentiate between a human being, a girl of 4 years and a marketing product to distribute in a broadcast style Crimwatch or otherwise, to raise any broadcasting rights!! They do not realize a “parody” of the facts! We want to seriously know what really happened during the day on May 02, and in the May 03!

“Regardless of anything, it is of little impotance us to know whether or not the parents are guilty. Whether or not they will be charged. The only thing that matters is what happened to Madeleine. This is the only important question – more so than the possible guilt or otherwise of the parents. But we have to be honest here, since their departure from Portugal, when according to some they abandoned Maddie for a second time, the parents and their friends appear to react as if it all too late for Madeleine and that the only thing that matters to them now is to keep themselves and the twins safe and out of sight. Don’t forget that the PJ had already declared that in their search for an abductor they had no intention of harassing the parents for neglect. The abduction was the prime focus.

In conclusion: We think that Mr Clarence Mitchell needs to take a holiday, for he is coming out with inept statements as big as himself!”

British police officer accuses the McCanns of having an agreement to prevent the reconstruction

According to a senior member of the Enderby police force in Leicestershire, “Kate and Gerry McCann have established an agreement with their seven friends aimed at preventing the reconstruction requested by the Portuguese authorities”.

“They know that this reconstruction will not take place if the group is not complete”, confirmed the officer, adding, “it is evident that Kate and Gerry cannot directly and publicly refuse to participate, with the risk of seeing the public opinion in the UK turn against them”.

“That is why it is the friends who have made it known that they will not participate”, stated the British officer who had accompanied the investigations in Portugal.

Almost at the same moment that the officer made his accusations, Kate and Gerry McCann made it known today, via their spokesman, that they would be prepared to comply with a notification from the Portuguese authorities with the aim of participating in the reconstruction, but their friends continue to contest the request, doubting its usefulness.

Emphasising the fact that Kate and Gerry McCann are still under arguido status, Clarence Mitchell confirmed, in statements made to the Lusa Portuguese agency that “if their presence is demanded, they will go, they have to go”.

The PJ claims to carry out a reconstruction of the movements that the parents and their friends, who were present at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance, claimed to have made.

Initially, the PJ’s suggestion had been transmitted via the couple’s lawyers, only to end up as individual summons because the validity of the request requires the presence of the complete group, which seems increasingly improbable.

“Everything depends on the friends, who were invited to go but, as they are not arguidos, they have the right to question the usefulness of the reconstruction and whether it will help to find Madeleine – and their reply at the moment appears to be negative”, explained Clarence Mitchell.

The seven friends - Jane Tanner and Russell O’Brien, Matthew and Rachael Oldfield, David and Fiona Payne, and the latter’s mother, Diane Webster – have been interrogated as witnesses in Portugal and in the UK, confirming their wish to help the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine, but today they appear to have imposed conditions upon their return from Praia da Luz.

According to Clarence Mitchell, given the proximity of the second date proposed by the Portuguese authorities and the lack of response to the group’s demands, “it is highly improbable that the reconstruction can take place”.

The main reason cited by the seven Britons to doubt the initiative of the Portuguese authorities would be, according to Clarence Mitchell, linked to the fact that “the police last year rejected a proposal from the BBC Crimewatch programme” in order to carry out a reconstruction.
An explanation that is not likely to convince the Portuguese and British investigators because this type of procedure, within the framework of a programme such as Crimewatch, does not have the same objective. If in the UK, this procedure is used to investigate the witness reports, in Portugal the recourse to this kind of procedure, as happens in the majority of European countries, serves to consolidate – or not – an inquiry that is close to conclusion.

    ————————————————-
“in inquiry that is close to conclusion” is very promising!!!

Morning all. AirShow day today here (and tomorrow) if it stops raining.

T he Facebook /Bebo initiative isn’t about Madeleine per se, its for all missing children andIMO its a bit mealy mouthed to knock it just because the McCanns support it. Anything that raises awareness and maybe makes even one child reappear has to be good. Even if its a 16 year old runaway who as a result phones home to say they are safe.
I shall put it on my Facebook page ….

Sam…. As far as I can see the Facebook page for madeleine has lots of members. what makes you say 6? I think that is just the comments.

The Anorak site on MySpace. only had two members and now it’s gone down?? Can’t judge a page by its banner I say!
