Madeleine McCann: Noticing Tony Bennett, Madeleine’s Law And What Crime
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “McCanns fury over ‘neglect’”
Missing Maddie McCann’s furious parents have vowed to sue a lawyer who suggests they are guilty of child neglect. Anthony Bennett, 61, is urging the Government to bring in a “Madeleine’s Law” making it a criminal offence to leave children under 12 on their own.
Anthony Bennett has written to Anorak numerous times. Surely, if the McCanns sue him, they will give him the day in court he craves?
Madeleine’s Law sounds like a unworkable project, something that has no chance of ever being approved let alone policed effectively.
And who is Tony Bennet, the man who likes a cause celebre? Is he worth the McCanns’ bother? Say they do sue him and win. Then what? Is he a man of substance or a man of straw? Will it raise money for Our Maddie or deplete the family’s fund? Will it just make Bennett famous?
His website attacks doctors Kate and Gerry McCann, both 41, over the disappearance of Maddie, now five, from their holiday flat in Portugal last year.
Indeed it has. He is not without his supporters.
McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Our lawyers are watching him. They are constantly monitoring his claims, which we consider are libellous.”
It all sounds not a little threatening. The McCanns are innocent but can they make it so no-one dares to raise an objection or a critical voice? What good can come of suing a man who says the McCanns failed their child? And haven’t the parents already blamed themselves for not taking enough care?
A legal source close to the McCanns, of Rothley, Leics, said: “They are more than annoyed and deeply offended. They say enough is enough. All they are trying to do is get their daughter back.”
But how do Bennett’s claims of neglect prevent the safe return to Madeleine McCann?
Madeleine McCann is missing and after months of speculation and investigation, reader remain unsure what crime – if any – has been committed…

Isn’t he the man involved in setting up the Lubbock Foundation? Whatever happened to that? Does anyone know?

I’m not proud!
I’ll take the bronze, and be thrilled with it.
I should like to thank all the people who have helped me on the long journey to this historic moment.
I’m not going to, though, because some bugger might steal my third place…

I signed that damned petition because the law is so vague. I like the idea of a clear, straightforward, instruction, that people can understand. We’re not all lawyers.
No crime has been committed? How’s that then? Something happened to that child. If she wandered off and fell down a mine shaft, there is still the crime of leaving her alone.
I want to know what happened. In fact I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!
October 26th, 2008 at 10:35 am
The Mccanns can sue until the crows come home, because they know what happened to that child. They have also been clever enough to cover up what happened. That is what they may think and one day, a big crack will appear!

The Attorney General of Portugal has concluded that there is no evidence to support your claims.

How can they say they did not neglect Maddie? Is leaving a child/children crying on at least 2 ocassions, once for over one and a half hours not neglect. All these children were under 5 years of age. One child vanishes, it is neglect to the extreme in my opinion. How the McCanns can say otherwise is beyond me. Especially as they stated they were checking every 15 to 20 minutes. There were obviously not checking during that one and a half hours were they.

I was very annoyed by Clarence implying that I, being British Citizen, had a
cultural habit of leaving my children unsupervised and unprotected.
Did I threaten to sue him ?
No.
Sod off you fakers.

What is it with all these sad bastards who get excited about being first to post a reply? Do you have no lives? Do you ever see daylight? Grow up losers, there’s a little girl missing out there. Try turning off your computers now and again, maybe go out and talk to real human beings?

I shall be very interested to see if they do in fact sue, or just keep threatening it so that newspapers do not report what the Madeleinefoundation dot org is publishing.
The 30 reasons booklet itself then has a further 30 reasons, and a good piece on the government involvement. Each reason is cross referenced to sources, and IMHO has been well put together. In many cases it is quietly understated, which adds to the sense of calm questioning and debate.
It is being sent out to journalists and reporters, to see if any one of them will actually take up the challenge.
If they did sue, they might find themselves having to answer all 60 reasons in detail, explaining the changes of story, the details of the fund, and so on.
I predict they will not do so.

Ohh-constantly monitoring
Watching the “only small circle of people, which critized us”
How much are the costs for these lawyers ?
And
Who is paying the bill ?

Nothing like a bit of Fury - So refreshing from the McCanns !!
Sometimes I wish they would get sooooo FURIOUS - It would jolt them into some pro-active actions !! Like searching ? Telling the whole truth - We heard more from them when they couldn’t talk than ever we have since Arguido was lifted.
I wish someone would get them in a padded cell with an electric drill !!! - Bit like Reservoir Dogs you know !!

Marathon Man and the “dental treatment” scene, still makes me shiver.

One way to get the truth !!
October 26th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Okay, I see.
Please try to sue Anthony Bennett.
It is absolutely necessary to know (for all british people), how long is the time for leaving children alone (unsupervised).
And of course, and I hope it so, Anthony Bennett has a lot of witnesses, at least the police files from the portuguese police.

No, actually it isn’t. The Spanish inquisition, Saudi’s and torturers throughout history have found that people will say anything you want them to under torture.

“All they are trying to do is get their daughter back.”
Why is she missing ??
If the parents were at home (apartment), it would not be a missing child. So what ??
October 26th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Do you know, Indiansummer, I think that has been said before but correct me if I’m wrong.
I’m thinking of setting it to music I’ve heard it so often.
However it does not answer the question “What Happened Next?”.

The majority of people see them for what they are and the British Media refusal to question the McCann fairy story, It is blatently obvious that things are not as they seem with the McCann/Tapas 7 version of events, hence the refusal to return to Portugal for the reconstruction. The British Media attitude of protecting the McCanns without question, even in the face of glaring inconsistencies is both shameful and morally obscene.

The Picture from the Cipriano case are a forgery.??????????????????????????????
October 26th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Were Mari Luz’s parents neglectful to allow a small child to go to the store alone? Were Ylenia’s parents neglectful to allow a child to ride her bike to the swimming pool? Were Yeremi’s parents neglectful to allow him to play outside?
At the time of their disappearances, were any of these children physically closer to their parents or being better supervised than the sleeping Madeleine McCann?
We may disagree about the age and circumstances under which a child may be left, and we may disagree about what actually constitutes “unattended,” but I’d like to think we understand that each of these parents has been well and truly punished–whether deserved or not–and that our outrage should be instead directed at the predators who took their children.

I think it is dreadful that rich people asking for money to Find their child and the seen ot living the high life at a luxury leisure centre near Preston…..so that is where the money goes not looking for Madeleine because [in my view] she is dead but [in my view] on pleasures flights and on massive mortgages robbing the poor to give to the rich all ill gotten gains. [in my view] They are not looking forMadleine themselves ever, remember they ran home ……and are having holidays again, not themselves looking for her at all!
