Madeleine McCann: Noticing Tony Bennett, Madeleine’s Law And What Crime
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “McCanns fury over ‘neglect’”
Missing Maddie McCann’s furious parents have vowed to sue a lawyer who suggests they are guilty of child neglect. Anthony Bennett, 61, is urging the Government to bring in a “Madeleine’s Law” making it a criminal offence to leave children under 12 on their own.
Anthony Bennett has written to Anorak numerous times. Surely, if the McCanns sue him, they will give him the day in court he craves?
Madeleine’s Law sounds like a unworkable project, something that has no chance of ever being approved let alone policed effectively.
And who is Tony Bennet, the man who likes a cause celebre? Is he worth the McCanns’ bother? Say they do sue him and win. Then what? Is he a man of substance or a man of straw? Will it raise money for Our Maddie or deplete the family’s fund? Will it just make Bennett famous?
His website attacks doctors Kate and Gerry McCann, both 41, over the disappearance of Maddie, now five, from their holiday flat in Portugal last year.
Indeed it has. He is not without his supporters.
McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Our lawyers are watching him. They are constantly monitoring his claims, which we consider are libellous.”
It all sounds not a little threatening. The McCanns are innocent but can they make it so no-one dares to raise an objection or a critical voice? What good can come of suing a man who says the McCanns failed their child? And haven’t the parents already blamed themselves for not taking enough care?
A legal source close to the McCanns, of Rothley, Leics, said: “They are more than annoyed and deeply offended. They say enough is enough. All they are trying to do is get their daughter back.”
But how do Bennett’s claims of neglect prevent the safe return to Madeleine McCann?
Madeleine McCann is missing and after months of speculation and investigation, reader remain unsure what crime – if any – has been committed…

libellous????
To whom???
I am sure you are correct in assuming Bennet is under scrutiny!!! As he should be…He has cashed in on an unfortunate situation. He is just as libel as the whole digusting group of pariah’s. How dare he accuse an innocent priest for his own selfish reasons. his dislike or aversion to catholics. He belongs in the same dumpster as the McCann’s and their entourage.

I thought the witness statements said they ate outdoors on the patio? Either way, doesn’t change anything.

Indeed.
He would have needed to break a hole in the roof in order to “see” the
apartment.
But he could not have “seen” it, in any sort of “security” sense from inside the
very well lit Tapas Restaurant at night.
The Tapas has long windows, stretching along it’s length on the side facing the
apartment, and if sitting right by the window you would only see reflections
from within the Tapas and even a person standing a yard or two outside would
barely be seen, never mind someone over 300 feet away.
Dr G P’s little story of their “only being 40 yards away, just like being in their
back garden, and they could see clearly across to the apartment that night”,
sounds extremely contrived, misinformative and deceitful.
Sounds like he in in a very serious state of denial.

Another Justice less day for Madeleine, as the crackpot theory merchants peddle their nonsense. Two possibilities only.

But you said it.

Hey Pam. That’s exactly what a moron WOULD say.

I’m glad to see most people think there’s something terribly wrong with the McCanns version of events .. they just couldn’t wait to offload their three children every chance they got .. poor, poor kids .. dumped in the creche… then left alone in a strange bed on a ‘Family Holiday’ .. hang your heads in shame Drs. McCann ..

Unfortunately, there has not been a referendum on the public’s opinion and we cannot be sure that everybody would agree with you Mo. Please read Anorak’s threads which hold very mixed and diverse views on this subject to understand what I mean by this.

“Pamela you are a sad excuse for a moron…”
But, um, wouldn’t that be a GOOD thing?
October 27th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Garth, I know! It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.
You know, here we have a saying for when an overweight gal has worn something too tight: Looks like she’s shoved twenty pounds of something into a ten pound sack! Now I have this new corollary: He’s on a ten-foot ladder in an eight-foot room! : )

Nice try. But this was really weird and I would be very interested to know how it is possible.
Meanwhile I’ll join Chenier, not with a Glenlivet, but a nice Marc de Bourgogne and then make it to bed too.

Yes, I’m a family member–the McCann’s have TONS of relatives in north Alabama, or hadn’t you heard? We’re all just this close and wearing tartan.
Why you wear tartan is beyond me but I hope you enjoyed your relatives visit when they popped over the ditch.
Pamela you are a sad excuse for a moron in fact moron would be a form of praise for you.
Now go back to screen printing t-shirts for the fund. You are making even the McCanns look clever!

If I post at 11:50 pm [real time] I should get in here at 11:05 pm

Willo’s post is after all of yours, but you are replying to it.
This is seriously weird; I am going to pour a stiff Glenlivet and head for bed, in the hope that things will make more sense in the morning……

Chenier 10:51 [= 11:40], can you see Willo’s post at 11:05????

We put the clocks back on Sunday, which has made Anorak time evn less connected to reality than usual, but the not seeing posts until after you have replied to them is weird even for Anorak.
I dare say someone will turn up and provide a suitable conspiracy theory in due course…
October 27th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
It’s 11:32 pm
October 27th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
For the sake of science, I am now forced to stay here until the Anorak time zone changes to real time again and then see whether or not the posts will be in the right order again. Hm … had wanted to go to bed, but for scientific research will sacrifice some more minutes …
October 27th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
This is a very special sensation. I can indeed react to a post, which I can clearly read since more than 10 minutes, yet my post appears before his [Willo's]. Very special sensation indeed. Like living in another time zone …

Time will learn whether this will show before or after Willo’s post

I’ve seen this suggestive question a couple of times in the past days and today. If you have something to say, why not just say it?
October 27th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Well, VW probably doesn’t like the implication that their cars are not capable of being driven perfectly safely at 90 miles an hour by someone who has spent the evening in a bar, but then they wouldn’t, would they?
But I’m with you all the way on the rest…
October 27th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
There are a lot of rumors and conspiracy theories and talk about mystrerious text messages he sent shortly before the crash. And his family seems to want a second autopsy. And VW, the automobile firm, says it’s practically “impossible” that a Pheaton can have such an accident - which is kind of ridiculous.
Rest in peace, Mr. Haider, but rest.

Thank you, Garth!
It’s a wonder I managed to get it on any MM thread at all; was writing something about how to go bankrupt in one easy step for the Forums.
And good to read you too, Baby Jane.
I’m still somewhat flummoxed about Haider; how is it going over there?
