Madeleine McCann: Do Libel Laws Damage The Investigation?

IN The New Year, a House of Commons inquiry will investigate press standards, privacy and libel laws.
The cross-party Culture, Media and Sport Committee is now looking for views on a wide range of key topics affecting the press from newspaper publishers and any other interested parties.
The case of missing Madeleine McCann will be high on the agenda.
The Committee will ask why the self-regulatory regime was not used in this case after libel payouts were made to the girls parents, their friends and Robert Murat. All innocent.
The Committee also wants to know why the PCC has not invoked its own inquiry and whether the successful action against Express Newspapers by the McCanns indicates a serious weakness with the self-regulatory regime.
What is the job of the press? And do libel laws prevent a full and frank discussion and an open investigation?
Madeleine McCann: no suspects; no crime; no sign of the missing child…

Kate’s arguido statement on other side, funny how forgetful all this lot are, you’d think things would be embedded in the brain from such a momentous evening, eh? Usually traumatic events lead to extra vivid memories of associated events, as if you saw everything in vivid technicolour and slow motion. Perhaps it was an alcoholic haze that induced the swirling mists of oblivion.

Nice start to the Blog LP, will have a good look through later. My tastes in music are very diverse, so it was a pleasant surprise to see the Bee Gee’s mentioned, people would be surprised by the sheer number of hit songs they wrote for other artists too. Bet you won’t have Demis Roussos on there
Robert Palmer was underestimated too IMO.
Have a tip for the top (for you to check out later if you would ?) they were due to tour with Snow patrol but the lead singer lost his voice just at the wrong time. I will look out a link next time you’re on

Morning all. Not that there’s many ‘all’ left now sadly. Still I suppose eighteen months of interest in the case was good and life goes on for everyone.
Let’s just hope that Madeleine is found one way or another and the case is solved…. it would be awful for it to carry on for as long as the Ben Needham disappearance has, also Rene Haas (not sure of spelling offhand) and all other missing children.
