Madeleine McCann: The Video, The Song And The Prayer
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
Another day and another anniversary of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. No proof of what happened to her has come to light; no proof of any crime behind her vanishing. The parents keep their daughter’s name in the news. And the media…
GLASGOW SUNDAY MAIL: “Xmas Plea For Maddie”
MISSING Madeleine McCann’s voice has been heard in public for the first time in a Christmas home video…Maddie, then three, is heard telling her siblings, twins Sean and Amelie: “Clap your hands together and one, two, three.”
The words:
Madeleine McCann with
Twins Sean and Amelie
Clap your hands together
And one two three
Sing along…
LIVERPOOL DAILY POST: “McCanns make Christmas video plea”
Madeleine then holds up her new pair of shoes and says: “These are my shoes.” Behind the camera Mr McCann asks her what colour they are, and she answers: “Pink.”
Counting. Colours. Normality.
The short film, which has Snow Patrol’s hit song Chasing Cars as its soundtrack, also features a montage of clips of Madeleine.
Snow Patrol provide the theme tune for missing children. A Christmas Number one?
DAILY MAIL: “Heard for the first time, the excited voice of Madeleine enjoying her last family Christmas”
The first time?
Says Clarence Mitchell:
“This message is entirely focused on Madeleine, as it should be at this time of year. They are still very much continuing a lot of hard work behind the scenes in the search for their daughter.”
Says Mitchell talking of, er, Kate and McCann. And once again we are also watching the parents.
NEWS OF THE WORLD: “In such a bleak midwinter, let’s hold on to hope”
Bleak? Oh, hang on, the NOTW is playing its mawkish card. The paper of bonks and tits has a prayer. The NOTW has found god:
BETWEEN the frantic ringing of the tills and last-minute festive preparations we urge you to read the searing words of Melanie Jones.
Eyes down, and we pray…
The mother of murdered schoolboy Rhys has a stark message for every family in the land.
An alternative Christmas message from a mother who has lost her son.
There is, however, a chink of light in our darkness. As Archbishop of York John Sentamu points out on this page today, a majority of schoolchildren believe parents are the true heroes in our society.
Those survey results are in…
Now, more than ever, let us send prayers and thanks to our Forces fighting terror in faraway lands.
From the soles of our shoes…
Let those of us with money to spend remember those without jobs.
Kyle of Jeremy is ready for you now…
Let us keep in our thoughts the plight of missing Madeleine McCann and the ordeal of her family.
Speculatus, speculatum, specualtant.
SUNDAY EXPRESS (front page): “MADDY SPEAKS”… exclusively to the Express?
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE: VOICE OF AN ANGEL”
One paper had to say “Voice of an angel”. And the Star supplies the obligatory headline… But she’s not dead. The Star knows:
The little girl leaps up from the stairs and dances around, waving the shoes and looking up at light streaming through a window. She was aged three at the time. She was nearly four when she disappeared and will now be five.
The light. Do you see the light? Such are the facts.
We see “doctor dad Gerry” and “Maddie is seen being held by her mum Kate – also a 41-year-old doctor”.
Such are the facts.
BBC: “Christmas video appeal for Madeleine McCann”
“She is seen in the video with her younger brother and sister, twins Sean and Amelie, and speaking about her new pink shoes.”
Is the BBC now a YouTube for missing children and unsolved cases? Send in a video and the Beeb will feature it. Not a bad idea to end each news show with a look at a missing child or an unsolved crime. But for now the case of Madeleine McCann is the only one featured…
AFP (newswires): “McCann family releases video plea for Madeleine information”
Says Clarence Mitchell:
“Kate and Gerry do not wish to say anything further. They feel the video will speak for itself.”
Which is why Clarence Mitchell is still speaking for them?
“Kate and Gerry are still very much continuing a lot of hard work behind the scenes in the search for their daughter. This, they feel, is a timely and appropriate reminder that she is still out there and that somebody somewhere may still have that vital piece of information that may lead to her being found.”
A child is missing - stilling missing. The parents do all they can. But the media sheds no light, only stares. And we are, as ever, watching the parents…

So it was the police who were to blame for the McCanns not releasing this video? Come off it, they wouldn’t even answer any of the questions put to them by the police, and left Portugal immediately after they were made suspects. Also, they released other photographs of Madelaine - supposedly to help identify her - so why on earth would they listen to police who they apparently have so little respect for? Their status as suspects was lifted ages ago - albeit only through lack of evidence. Why would the police prevent them from showing the video anyway? - it’s ridiculous.

And a Merry Christmas to you as well H!

Did’n the McCanns promise the world that a famous sporting man would be the one who would make their Christmas message?
Did the monster take him away as well?

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………Weren’t …Weren’t there also reports that they were advised NOT to reveal the ‘eye defect’ but they did!..no doubt they were very selective about what they did reveal …….why?
—————–
If you don’t know for sure whether they were advised or not then why ask a silly question?

How fast do kids grow? Will she look anything like the video image? I doubt it.

You stupid person.
The vid and photos were just to remind us all that she is still missing.
Unfortunately they don’t have any up-to-date videos………no, honestly, they dont!

The release of this video only NOW just re-affirms my suspicions!
If your child goes missing, and you have a video with the child speaking - would you not release this immediately … instead of photos (some of which were over a year old)?
Hmmm … odd …. very odd …..

What i find odd is that you are only capable of looking at things from one angle. I’ve told you before everything may be as it seems………well at least from where you’re sitting. You get my point?

It should have come out when she would at least look like the film. No this is just another one of the many Christmas appeals that we have to deal with. No cash has been asked for - yet - just soften us up witha bit of video and then ask us to bolster the ‘fighting fund’
If she is somewhere else, she’s probably better off. Can you imagine how these two would milk her return? TV companies would have to pay through the nose just for a picture.

Julie
There were reports that the UK Police advised the McCanns not to release such material at the time. At the time, they were in Portugal and one would presume that material such as this was back in the UK. I don’t think it would have been of much use beyond the first week of her disappearance.

at long last ( bet she’s dead pleased) an announcement i have just found in the forums
Hi all,
Haven’t got long but thought you might be interested to know! After being induced starting on Friday night Samuel Jake was born on Sunday morning 2.35am. 7.15 lbs! Mum had quite a tough labour but when he was ready she only needed about 15 big pushes and he was born. He’s just like his mum and dad with lovely black hair, lovely skin and big eyes! What a beauty. Got home at about 6.30am this morning and was back again with them at 10am and have just got back. Talk about shattered! Midwife said I was such a great birth partner that she wanted me as her assistant and to cap it all her name was Sam too so she was chuffed!
What a lovely xmas present. Talking of which I wish you all a magnificent Xmas and a prosperous New Year.
I’ll catch up with you all when I can.
All the best

Happy Holiday Season, everyone! Decided to stop by and check things out to see how the soap opera’s coming along! Just like watching the ones on TV, you can go a year without watching one, you turn on the televison, tune in to the program and there it is with the same characters, same theme with the good, bad and indifferent.
C&C, agree with you there may well be no closure for the MCanns and thousands of other parents out there with missing children.
Presume you all read, if not listened to, the John Walsh interview, they finally got closure this past week after 27 years. Interesting wasn’t it for all who may have read or listened to it - how the police totally screwed up the investigation 27 years ago through their ineptness and it took 27 years to get the truth and the police to admit who killed their son.
The darling little missing child Caylee has been found as I’m sure you all have read this past week. Great police work there also! A utiliities man called the local police department in FL to report a suspcious bag three times in August out in the woods near the Grandparent’s home…when it is finally found - a few days ago. The man went himself and picked it up and out fell the tiny child’s skull! Then to one’s amazement, at least mine, they now decide to start searching the Grandparent’s home - why in the hell didn’t they do that when she first went missing? Sure have been carrying enough out in evidence bags the last 3 days!
Seems to be a similar theme between the McCanns case, Walsh case, and little Caylee - bumbling, inept, idiots ….

As has already been mentioned, if the McCanns have been sitting on this video for over 18 months, and especially if it’s the first time her voice has been heard, why on earth would supposedly desperate parents not put it out immediately? Why ask people across the world to look for her, while at the same time withholding possibly vital additional evidence of how she looks and sounds? Did the Portugese or British police get to see this? I had been wondering why we hadn’t heard anything from the McCann ‘organisation’ for several weeks, now we know why - they were waiting for Christmas.
