Madeleine McCann: Raymond Hewlett And The Wait For DNA

1515120MADELEINE McCann Watch: Anorak’s at-a-glance look at Madeleine McCann in the news – Raymond Hewlett will not face charges over a child’s disappearance.

The Blackpool Gazette has news on Raymond Hewlett, a man linked by media and sources with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Hewlett, an Our Maddie victim:

A former Blackpool soldier, linked to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, is unlikely to face charges over a sex attack 30 years ago. A team of detectives from West Yorkshire police flew to Germany to question Raymond Hewlett over the assault on an eight-year-old girl in 1972 and took a DNA sample.

So not guilty. Innocent, even?

Nothing but a hunch, some words and Osama bin Laden to link him to the disappearance of a child. We’ve been her before…

But sources at the Yorkshire force said that although they were still awaiting instructions on how to proceed from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), it was unlikely charges would follow. A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “We have been over to interview him and are currently liaising with the CPS regarding the matter. We are also still awaiting the results of a DNA profile.”

The DNA. Always the DNA

Private detectives working for the McCann family have not named him as a suspect but want to question him after receiving some worrying information from people who knew him.

Worrying? A rumour that saw Hewlett, a convicted paedophile, nicknamed “Maddie paedo”. No evidence of his involvement in the child’s vanishing. No DNA. No proof. An alibi. Nothing but speculation. And this in  a place “awash with paedos“.

The McCanns’ investigators – retired UK policemen Dave Edgar and Arthur Cowley – flew to Germany last month in a bid to question Hewlett.

And because Hewlett didn’t have to talk to a couple of private detectives earning their fees he didn’t. No law says he must. Nor did he speak with the British tabloid press – much. But, still, the press got to hear about it.

Any ideas how?
