Madeleine McCann: A Look At The Brand McCann Accounts
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
It’s time to look at those end-of-year Our Maddy Fund accounts and McCann Incorporated:
The Sun: “Maddie’s donors in £2m bid”
WELL-wishers donated almost £2million to the fund to find Madeleine McCann in the ten months after she vanished, it has emerged.
They gave almost £260-an-hour after Madeleine went missing aged three in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3 2007, accounts lodged with Companies House show.
Can a price be put on a child? No ransom note. No advertising on the official website - at just £3 per 1,000 clicks, the fund would have swollen. And what of those unofficial toys? No Maddy Catty for all children? The diary is worth loadsa money? The ribbons? Any royalties from Ben Affleck? Torn? Any commission from the sale of the holiday villa? The newspaper specials?
At least ther were the tops. Let’s hear it for the T-shirts!
Money. Watch out for crooks. Right, Eamonn?
The figures, published for the first time, show parents Kate and Gerry, of Rothley, Leics, spent £761,668 on the search in those ten months.
Of that, £26,000 bought merchandise, £250,000 went on private detectives and £123,573 paid for campaign management. Legal fees cost £111,522 and £81,904 paid for posters and newspaper and TV ads.
Detectives profited (home by Christmas). Lawyers profited. Newspapers profited. TV profited. The McCanns lost a daughter.
A further £7,363 was spent on hotels, travel and subsistence, including their trips to Morocco and the US.
The travel industry profited. Our Maddie tours, anyone? Mr Gerard?
Daily Mail: “Where the £2m you gave to find Madeleine McCann has gone”
Accounts lodged with Companies House show the fund received £1.4million in bank donations, another £391,000 over the internet and £64,000 from the sale of T-shirts and wristbands.
In total, it received £1.85million in its first ten months and earned £33,424 in interest. It spent £815,113 on the search for Madeleine in that time.
Interest… Whjere can you get rates like that? Anything else?
Support for her parents – Kate and Gerry – was rocked when Portuguese police named them as suspects, and when it emerged they had used public donations to pay two £2,000 instalments on their mortgage.
The bank profited.
Says Clarence Mitchell (funded by a benefactor):
“People will be able to see that every penny of the money they so generously donated has been spent properly in the hunt to find Madeleine.”
And what good has all the money done?

The accounts will account for each every penny. The Mccanns diligance in this regard is the cause of congratulation. Unlike the Mccanns caution as parents charged with the responsibility of the whereabouts of their own daughter.
The whereabouts of each and every penny that remains in the Mccanns bank account will be known, sadly the remains of their daughter will never be known.

Blame Gandolf, Totje, he MUST have magiced it away
January 31st, 2009 at 12:24 am
Money? Can’t find where they’ve booked my salary, or Maria’s , Whoop’s, Garth’s or Stiggies.
Must have been the money in the envelops. No taxes, hurray!
January 30th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
There certainly was wasn’t there, and all dispersed now….
follow the money? its trail leads somewhere
January 30th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
Alls well that ends well in the cat department. Nice whiff of gunpowder on the thread on the thread tonight. All we need now is for someone to come and say ‘follow the money’. That’s the ’secret’ money, not the recently published fund accounts.

Yampster
very glad the cats found a good home
January 30th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
Clive yes agree , also the money stuffed into envelopes sent to home address , no mention of that either , the website would have to be magnifico to cost 37000 as mine was better and cost less than 1000 , the legal fees were supposedly paid by BK

I would like to make a couple of comments, firstly in the Press extracts of the Fund accounts, I saw no mention of the two months mortgage payments.
My other concern is that we are seeing the press comments significantly
tapering off and therfore the comments from observers similarly reducing. I would hate us to get to the stage of losing interest in the fate of a young girl….
Continuing focus is needed to ensure an answer is eventually discovered.
January 30th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
Totje , I did but it was not put up and it was not abusive or rude
January 30th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
Don’t worry Doris, it’s not just you.
It happens to me as well. Every post I make ( not many!) goes into moderation. They end up showing one & then block me.
You probably won’t even see this!
And I will end up not even bothering anymore. (like many others…sadly)
Byee……………………………….again???
January 30th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Well Doris, at 6.11 pm I invited you to post it again, so why don’t you do that?
January 30th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
by the way Clive , thank you , it is a shame this site is no longer a free discussion board as it used to be
January 30th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
ok mods but my initial post that you did not put up was to totje wasnt it ? yes and i have not disrupted this thread as my post was related to the fund , i am not lying and feel i am being discriminated for some reason
January 30th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Nah, Yampster, don’t tell me you’re living over there ?
January 30th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Doris, you were rude.
Clive, if you would bother to read the thread, it is perfectly obvious how the discussion morphed from the Madeleine fund accounts - with the benefit of those funds being questionable - to the payment of funds to the undesirables up north - that also being a use of funds with questionable benefit.
Ever heard of chinese whispers?

I’m glad those cats found a good home though aren’t you? Made my day.
January 30th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Clive… why not put forward some rivetingly interesting point and we can all join in and discuss / dismiss?
Telling others that thy are twittering without offering an alternative is sort of……. er…. twittering
January 30th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Clive
talk about the pot calling the kettle black, aren’t you some way off topic yourself?
January 30th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Thanks for Moderator comments but I still don.t think there is any connection between use of Funds for Madeleine “Search” and Ulster situation. As an accountant I know that accounts are no more than someone’s opinion and
often need to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Isn.t June the same person who introduced twittering about cats in the previous
Madeleine thread ?
Moderator You clearly don’t come here often
January 30th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Doris is brusque bu June needs a good talking too, after complaining about the thread being broken - why in earth did she bring in Ulster politics into what is supposed to be about a missing girl.
Moderator - Now I have read the whole thread and Doris disrupted it by attacking another poster. The MM threads do peter out routinely as there is no news. The thread header was about the Funds and the use they were put to, not about Madeleine
January 30th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
Totje… I agree with you on both counts.. women can be vindictive and use their children as weapons and yes, Doris IS rude….. good manners cost nothing!
January 30th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Fine June , I do not get entertainment pleasure out of this - I am not that small minded , I am somebody the same as you and I have an opinion the same as you , It seems that you wish to dominate the thread to me , I have no ill feeling towards you and if I was mis informed then please let me know
Moderator I suggest you read June’s post, and then keep quiet or get blocked
Just had a phone call from Mr Sorene, do NOT phone him again
January 30th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
Doris
As you are not prepared to apologise , I can live with that, after all you are no -one at all , and the bad manners are yours not mine and all you are doing is upsetting the thread and the site for your own entertainment.
But if you attempt to converse with me at all on this site, I shall be ignoring you

January 30th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
No I think you [Doris] were rude to June.
You assumed something and now it appears your assumption was wrong, it would be appropriate to say “sorry, I was wrong”. Ah well, never mind.
Post what you wanted to post to me and I’ll be back [in a while] and see if I’ll reply
January 30th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
PeterMac,
Nothing to do with being juvenile, these fathers, just desperate.
Women can be quite nasty bitches too in case of a divorce esp. if he’s left her.
Most Judges [still] think children are better off living with the mother, not realising it gives them a perfect ‘tool’ to blackmail, control or even bully or pester their former husbands.
Not all men are bad, not all women are good [vv]
January 30th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
this is most childish behaviour
Moderator Could you enlighten me as to why you are posting?
January 30th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
actually it was to you that I was posting to when it got whoosh cluncked ! where have I been rude ? or were you referring to June ?
January 30th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
You are rude
