Madeleine McCann:Tunnels Under Praia And A New Theory
MADELEINE McCann: Hidden in tunnels, alive in America and a new theory…
Daily Express (front page): “MADDIE: DID SHE VANISH IN MAZE OF TUNNELS?”
Dunno? Did she?
“TUNNELS BENEATH RESORT MAY BE CLUE TO MYSTERY”
James Murray investigates a phone call:
Secret tunnels beneath the Portuguese seaside town where Madeleine McCann vanished two years ago today may hold the key to her disappearance.
The tunnels, dating back to Roman times, have never been thoroughly searched, despite repeated requests.
Documents in Portuguese police files, published today for the first time, suggest a vital line of inquiry was ignored and have led to fresh calls for a proper investigation into the tunnels…
What of the evidence?
A British woman wrote to UK detectives saying: “There are six to eight tunnels under Praia da Luz that the PJ [Portuguese police] have not searched. There is a tunnel under the church, there are tunnels under Estrela da Luz apartments. These have not been searched.”
“Repeated” is one woman in one letter?
“The archaeologist involved with these tunnels was arrested as an abuser in the Casa Pia case but later released [this was a notorious child abuse scandal centring on orphanages in Lisbon].”
Read: Madeleine McCann: Francisco Moita Flores’ 3 Minutes, Gran’s Plate And The Paedo Doctor
“Does this not send alarm bells ringing? Something not right in Portugal. Why are the PJ not searching these tunnels and the church?”
Portugal is to blame? Any other clues?
The woman, who declined to be named, told the Sunday Express last night: ‘‘I raised these issues a while ago because I thought they were relevant and I know the British detectives passed the information on to the Portuguese detectives but I never discovered what happened.
“As a matter of urgency there must be a proper and thorough examination of all these tunnels . It is possible the abductor may have left clues .”
So an anonymous tip-off/ hunch should be followed up?
Remember the letter to a Dutch newspaper. And a map showing where her body can be found. It was credible. And what about her, she who saw Our Maddie in Morocco? And the “hoax“? And this hoax? And tabloid journalists pointing the finger at innocent men.
What other facts, James Murray?
Daily Express: “MCCANNS TO MARK THEIR DAY OF SORROW
James Murray.
Kate and Gerry McCann are expected to mark the second anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance today with special prayers at their local Catholic church, where the mood of hope that she is still alive flickers like the candles by the altar.
Sunday Mirror (front page): “Maddy: Top Brit Tec’s New Theory”
“STALKED FOR DAYS”
Oh?
Madeleine McCann was snatched by a lone kidnapper who had stalked the family for days, according to British detectives hired by her parents Kate and Gerry.
Fact!
The theory is based on information extracted from 30,000 Portuguese police files translated into English at a cost of £100,000.
The files have been painstakingly examined by two former British detectives - Dave Edgar and Arthur Cowley - hired by the Find Madeleine Fund two years after she vanished.
Mr Edgar, a retired Detective Inspector with 30 years experience, believes the case can still be solved and is convinced that the crucial evidence remains in Praia Da Luz.
He says: “In my experience random just doesn’t happen. A passer-by just doesn’t go in, pick up a child and take it. These things are planned. So you don’t start an investigation in Morocco or Spain or even Lisbon. This happened in Praia da Luz - and that’s where the answer is.”
A statement of fact, or just a dig at Metodo 3, who knew they’d find Our Maddie in lawless Morocco. The sightings and more in Morocco.
Madeleine at a petrol station in Lagos; Madeleine on a gypsy cart on Portimao; Marie Ollie sees Madeleine in Marrakech; Isabel Gonzalez sees Madeleine in Zaio; two women see Madeleine in Cartagena, Spain. Madeleine in Belgium. Madeleine in Malta. Madeleine in Bosnia…
Sky News: “’Someone Local Knows Truth About Madeleine’”
Someone living in or around the Portuguese resort where Madeleine McCann vanished knows what happened to her, private detectives hired by her parents have claimed.
Detectives stick to the facts.
Irish Independent: “Spotlight on local link to Madeleine abduction”
“There’s someone local, lives locally has the answer to this, and not, you know, much wider than 10, 15 kilometres away from Praia de Luz. This offence happened in Praia da Luz, it’s a very self-contained resort, and that’s where we’ve started and that’s where I think the answer is,” said retired detective inspector Dave Edgar, who leads the search team.
Daily Mail: “Kate and Gerry McCann hire British murder detective to help find Madeleine”
David Edgar replaces the private detective agencies hired by the couple to chase up sightings of the missing toddler.
The 52-year-old worked largely on murders in Cheshire until his retirement in November last year.
He is being assisted by ex-Detective Sergeant Arthur Cowley, 57, from Merseyside police, who was involved in solving the Jamie Bulger case.
Sunday People: “The moment Gerry walked into Kidnap flat… after 2 years”
Sarah Jellema is there:
This is the moment Gerry McCann stepped back into the last place he saw his daughter - to reconstruct the nightmare of the evening she was snatched.
Watching the parents:
Standing outside the bedroom where he had left three-year-old Madeleine asleep, he looked anguished as he relived the events of exactly two years ago.
Says Gerry McCann:
“We are a family and we are a happy family - but we are not a complete family.
“There is still a scar - a deep, deep scar - that is kind of knitted at the minute.
“But you still think the stitches of it might break or come loose.” Meanwhile, Maddie’s mum Kate, 41 - who did not return to the Portuguese holiday flat - said: “I think we are far from normality.
“We need to get out there - she is alive, she is out there, she is findable.
“She might look different, she could be speaking a different language, she might have her hair different, she might have different interests. But she’s still our daughter.”
Let’s investigate:
Mr Edgar - who worked with witnesses and the McCanns to make the reconstruction for Cutting Edge - says: “In my experience random just doesn’t happen.
“Someone - a passer-by - doesn’t go in and pick up a child and take it. These things are planned.
“So someone will have been in the vicinity of Apartment 5A.
“They may even have been watching the apartment for a week - or more.”
Maybe? Any facts?
GP Kate and brain specialist Gerry, of Rothley, Leicestershire, reported Madeleine missing at 10pm on the evening she vanished.
No longer a cardiac surgeon, Grrry has moved from hearts to minds…
Daily Star (front page): “Maddy: She’s out there, she’s findable”
The Times: “Seeking a different Madeleine”
Today, on the second anniversary of her disappearance, Madeleine McCann’s parents tell Emma Loach how a new image of their daughter fuels their hopes of seeing her again”
Says Emma in the McCanns And Me:
I became friends with Kate and Gerry McCann last year while filming an ITV documentary for the first anniversary of their daughter Madeleine’s disappearance. We have stayed in touch ever since — our children are of similar ages…
Gerry describes how they have adjusted to this new world: “ ‘Healed’ is a bit difficult; ‘adapted’ is probably the right word. There’s still a scar, a deep, deep scar that’s kind of knitted at the minute but you still think it might break.”
Says Kate McCann:
“I mean, there’s no point in speculating, you know, because that’s daft. I’m not saying it’s not normal occasionally to speculate but that doesn’t help, you know. At the end of the day it’s speculation. It’s not fact. And it makes you upset.”
And:
Alongside the growing strength is the inevitable accompanying guilt that they manage to live a life, go to work and enjoy the twins when the dreadful situation has not changed: Madeleine is still missing. Nothing has changed since 10pm on Thursday, May 3, 2007. But the further away they get from the shock of finding Madeleine had gone, the more they find themselves able to function.
In some ways this disgusts them. In some ways they feel they should still be incapable of operating in this bizarre, horrifying new world where Madeleine has been taken from them. But this is not an option. They have to keep going for the sake of all their children. The twins deserve a happy childhood. And if they don’t keep looking for Madeleine, who will?
Speculation can hurt:
Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in Washington, adds:
“It’s not inconceivable that she’s in a classroom somewhere, that she’s in somebody’s neighbourhood, living next door to some family, or someone may see her in a store or an airport.”
Madeleine McCann is missing - and the media speculation goes on…

We are closing in on the sick network that may have taken Madeleine!
No place for them to hide with the internet detectives are at work, its only a matter of time!.
And time is what we have and they don’t!

Cheryl,
I agree with you 100% … I also have a zero tolerance to towards inefficient and corrupt police officers. In fact I have that attitude towards anyone who is inefficient or corrupt. You make some very valid points in your statement.
May 5th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
Njay, the media doesn’t fool me at all. They write what sells newspapers. That old saying “the Press is Mightier than the Sword” and many a person’s life has been destroyed by reckless reporting.
I have a very high respect for honest Policemen and deep disrespect for dishonest Policemen. We have both over here as every country has them. That quip I made was not directed personally at you or any other retired Policemen on here However, Police are not inclined to speak wrong of another, as Doctors, Lawyers and other professions are not inclined to speak wrong of another, even if a wrong has been done.
I have a very good friend and we’ve been friends for years, he use to be Captain of a Precinct in DC and then retired and became a lawyer. He can think like a cop but also knows the laws and the rights of an accused and fantastic in court. A higher respect I could have for no one more than I have for him. However, I worked on a pro bono case for 13 years with a lawyer, man was sitting on death row. Took 13 years to get through the Appeals, some set backs and start all over again. Left a very bad taste in my mouth, Njay, to see what lengths some police will go with tunnel vision to get a conviction on an innocent man. Thus, I have zero tolerance for sloppy or improper police procedures!

Garth, let’s keep in mind the ‘ boys in blue network’ always stand behind each other no matter how wrong they are”
That is one of the most general statements that I have ever heard. I wonder if that can be backed up with evidence. Don’t let the media fool you into thinking that all Police Officers back up wrongdoers within their ranks.
May 5th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Garth. I am unable to answer for any other person who states they are a retired Police Officer, I only speak for myself.
Who has made thousands of pounds !! - I assume the retired police officers who own the Private Detective Agency will be thousands of pounds better off, considering it is a business and not a charity. When I refer to charity, I use the word as Charity (Benevolence or generosity toward others or toward humanity.) … NOT as in “A Registered Charity”, the definition of which I won’t bore you with.
You’re not an ex-Portuguese Police officer perchance? - No, I am not an ex- Portuguese Police Officer. I am not an EX anything, I am a RETIRED British Police Officer.
May 5th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Garth, let’s keep in mind the ‘ boys in blue network’ always stand behind each other no matter how wrong they are. You remember Jo and all the ‘you wait and sees’ we went through for a year and a half! I’m still waiting and haven’t ’seen’ yet. Looks like we are back in that scenario again.

You’re welcome, Njay. Anorak is a great site - got hooked over 5 years and a habit you never break. Make it over to the Forums, yet? This MM thread has calmed down quite a bit as for a long time it was like ‘walking on the wild side’, so to speak. How the moderators, Admin, kept their sanity I never could understand. Took the Patience of Job and Wisdom of Solomon and an iron hand (known as AGW) to keep us all in line.
May 5th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
……and who’s thousands of pounds better ffs?
You’re not an ex-Portuguese Police officer perchance?

As a retired Police Officer, I have many thoughts and opinions, which I will not publish here for various legal reasons. What I would suggest is that if I had my own Private Detective Agency and was being handsomely paid by a charity to resolve this case, I would be convincing everyone that I also had great leads and that I was close to solving the case.
I am sure I read that they were going to solve this case about 12 months ago and show the Portuguese Police who stupid and inefficient they were!! Well 1 year on and thousands of pounds better off, we seem to be no further forward. I always amazes me how people give to charity without having a clue how there money is being spent or perhaps near to the truth, wasted !!
—————————-
These ‘retired’ Police Officers are really making me wonder if they really retired.
Do you not think the Portuguese Police themselves showed how stupid and inefficient they were? Was really necessary to prove?
And regarding the charity, most honest people believed the fund was to aid the search for their daughter……….and they were right, it was. So whats the problem?

Hi Cheryl, thanks for the information and yes, I am new to both this thread and the site. It is nice to know that the site is monitored and that most of the idiotic statements made on this type of board are deleted. I was a little concerned about a comment made by Maicen on the 3rd May. I am not attempting to police the board, just trying to prevent some people having regrets later. I have to admit though that in general, the messages posted are very well thought out. Once again Cheryl, thanks for your information, it is very much appreciated.

Coolandcalm
Would she be integrated & speaking a new language by now?
She was about to go to school - she’s not going to forget her name, her parents, Britain & being on holiday that quick - certainly not quick enough for people not to ask questions.
May 5th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
Njay, presume you are new to this thread? Anorak has had full time 24 hour round the clock moderators on here for over a year and a half to ‘clean up’ after the idiots who were not intelligent enough or rather maybe didn’t care what statements they made on here that could or would violate the law. The Laws on libel and slander were posted and reiterated quite often. Many unbelieveable postings were outright deleted before anyone could read them, some edited with notations of edit made, some posters found themselves banned from here who refused to adhere to Anorak’s standards. This site is still moderated continuously.

“NO INTRUDER AND TOYS TUCKED INTO BED PROVES THAT MADDY TIDIED HER BED AND WENT OUT LOOKING FOR HER PARENTS”
That is only an opinion and there are many opinions about this case. From experience, I feel that the truth will eventually come to the fore and many people will have egg on their face and I don’t mean the Portuguese Police !! Be careful how you express your opinions, keep in your mind how much compensation the Newspapers have already paid out in relation the disappearance of Madeleine the past 2 years.
May 5th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
May 2009. NO INTRUDER AND TOYS TUCKED INTO BED PROVES THAT MADDY TIDIED HER BED AND WENT OUT LOOKING FOR HER PARENTS, so say’s a detective.
On the other hand is it possible that Maddy never actually went to bed that night?
Kate said that when she returned to the flat that evening, it was ‘quiet’ so she went to the children’s bedroom. Kate seemed a little surprised that it was so quiet. Does this mean that Maddy was up and about when they left her alone in the flat?
May 5th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
WHAT ABOUT THOSE 2 GUYS THAT FIXED THE WINDOWS I THINK 2 DAYS BEFORE SHE VANISHED ? THEY SHOULD BE INTERROGATED AGAIN AND AGAIN. AND ALSO ROBERT MURAT`S GERMAN COMPUTER FRIEND. I KNOW THE PEOPLE OF PORTUGAL BURNT HIS CAR AND WROTE ” FALA ” WHICH IN THAT LANGUAGE MEANS ” SPEAK ” !. I DO HOPE YOU PEOPLE FROM THE NEWS NOW DESK SEND ALL THIS STUFF TO THE INVESTIGATORS JUST TO REMIND THEM OF THOSE 3 PERSONS. PLEASE.

May 4th, 2009 at 9:22 am
mrning all.
Karen… I’m trying to keep out of the main MMC discussion BUT….. If Madeleine had perchance been taken and adopted by someone of a different nationality then she would have fully integrated into that family by now.
If you went to a Chinese orphanage (as many do) and adopted a child just four, then two years on, that child would be fluent in English and fully accepting of its new parents and new name Children have a tremendous capacity for learning at that age, especially languages. They also adapt very quickly. Hence the many successful adoptions of older children…….
Do I think that’s what happened? Sadly no, although I would love to be wrong.
I’m still with the ’spotted, stalked, snatched’ by a predator connected to the Ocean Club and I beleive she was done away with very shortly after. I also think (and again pray that I’m wrong) a film will surface on the interent eventually.
The adoption scenario is much nicer and I’m sure if it was my child missing then I would pray that was the case.
Nice sunny start to the bank holiday but I’m sure it will rain. It always does on a bank holiday!

Good morning.
So am I. I wonder if we could communicate by email ?
May 4th, 2009 at 1:35 am
I don’t think the McCanns did it because I don’t think they had the time… but when they say truly loopy things like this :
“”"She might look different, she could be speaking a different language, she might have her hair different, she might have different interests. But she’s still our daughter.””"
——————————————————————————————–
then I wonder…
Is it really likely that MM is trotting around speaking a foreign language???

This old chestnut again.? How about interrogating the oh so sanctimonious parents again.?
Abducted, stalked… proof ? Oops right 2 years and there is still no evidence.Maybe they accidentally did it and buried her in these magic tunnels under church they visited so often. I shall never believe in total innocence of yuppie doctor parents who think it is OK to go on lash night after night leaving 3 kids under 4 all alone without babysitter when there were plenty of them at resort. This ultimately is their responsibility for whatever happened next. Blaming strangers, oddballs, peados, the police, et al, ad nauseum does not cut it.Did not in May 2007, and does not in May 2009.
They are right “someone knows”-ask the parents and their pals-again in proper conditions this time.
Is this USA PR splurge to raise yet more millions for them ?
May 3rd, 2009 at 11:12 am
Mr Edgar, a retired Detective Inspector with 30 years experience, believes the case can still be solved and EDIT.. says: “In my experience random just doesn’t happen. A passer-by just doesn’t go in, pick up a child and take it. These things are planned. So you don’t start an investigation in Morocco or Spain or even Lisbon. This happened in Praia da Luz - and that’s where the answer is.”
In other words G and KM you have been complete fools for hiring M3 and everyone else and trotting round the world. You should have stuck with the PJ and given them some help and support, and perhaps answered the questions, and at least told them about the evidence you had to suggest that it was an abduction.
Brilliant. Only 2 years late. But how is Clarrie going to spin that one ?
May 3rd, 2009 at 11:07 am
The Portuguese are not stupid. Had there been any tunnels they would have been a huge tourist attraction at €5 a peek. You don’t pass up a chance to milk the visitors like that
May 3rd, 2009 at 9:58 am
Does a tunnel go near the church the McCanns visited? How strange that no search was done in the first place.
May 3rd, 2009 at 9:39 am
Why wweren’t the tunnels searched in the first place. Oh, and a tunnel may just go underneath the church the McCanns went to first off, to see the priest. Good place to hide a body there in the tunnels if no one goes into them.
May 3rd, 2009 at 9:26 am
He says: “In my experience random just doesn’t happen. A passer-by just doesn’t go in, pick up a child and take it. These things are planned. So you don’t start an investigation in Morocco or Spain or even Lisbon. This happened in Praia da Luz - and that’s where the answer is.”
Its also usually a member of the family.
May 3rd, 2009 at 9:21 am
Why not we’ve already had the clever dogs. Perhaps the PJ did not have enough lashings of ginger pop to sustain them on their big adventure
