Saudi Arabians Make Nuclear Bombs In Sewing Machine Scam
IN Saudi Arabia, locals are buying Singer sewing machines, said to contain traces of red mercury, reports the Saudi Gazette.
Red mercury may not exist, but if it does it may be used to find treasure, ward off evil spirits or “make nuclear bombs”.
Saudis are going crazy for the Singer, paying up to $50,000 (£33,500) for an old one.
In the city of Dhulum, reports tell of people breaking into two tailors’ shops to steal the machines.
In the city of Madina, people were holding mobile phones up to the machines, due to the belief that they could be used to detect the presence of red mercury.
Says an interior ministry spokesman:
“We have to find out who started this hoax. People hope to make profit. This is no different to cases of citizens who put their money in untrustworthy schemes.”
It’s a stictch up - geddit?

Thank you, yampster. Not only will I be able to make curtains (and tiebacks) again, but I now won’t have to go into Evans outsize shopping for frocks for my *mum*.

Ooh. I’ve got a 1912 model. On a 1910 treadle, strangely. Last time I looked it was worth the ever so slightly more than the tenner I paid for it. Oh, and the thread guide has snapped off and no-one will let me near theirs to *cough* replace it.
I’ll take a mere £25,000 for it. Offers?
