This is going to be the start of the tragedy…. I’m fortunate enough to be mortgage free, and have been for nearly 13 years…but some poor sod is literally going to be stuck between a rock and a hard place, and then all this scandal will hit home , and hard, hopefully for whoever caused the mess in the first place.
A mortgage of £150k being turned into an unpaid debt is a bit of a cheek when compared to what is the current debt outstanding at Northern Rock.
Perhaps the evictee- to- be is given a golden handshake?

    Glass houses, should be interesting

It’s going to be tragic for so many. I have a feeling there will be more ‘Northern Rock’s’ to follow… FEAR

  3. Will Says:

First ones i would evict would be the windsors.

  4. DuncanR Says:

I understand Alistair Darling holds a mortgage from the Northern Rock. If that is the case, it seems only right and proper that he should be the first to be evicted!

If you watched Dispatches last night you would have been made aware of how

this mess first started. Guess Who……..yes, our friends across the pond!!!!!!!

Cleveland , Ohio, , a poor Area, were the first to be sold Homes at a rate of
Interest which they couldn”t hope to repay. The greedy Banks hit on a way
of making big money out of these Mortgages, with Countries all over Europe
buying into the scheme. It”s left to Joe public to pick up the tab and no one
will have learned a lesson from all this.

    who cares.

  7. Mic Says:

    Errr, Craig. We do.

At least those of us who meet the following two criteria do:-

    1. Pay tax in the UK
    2. Have enough brain to get grasp of the full consequence of this issue

From your glib comment, I’m not quite sure how you stand re. the criteria though…

  8. Karen Says:

Wouldn’t the Northern Rock have been ok if there hadn’t been a run on the bank or was it heading for disaster anyway???

  9. Patch Says:

I, too, watched Despatches and was horrified to find that, thanks to Brown, no one is actually responsible for this fiasco. The greed and dodgy practices of the banks are free from any real investigation. The programme ended by showing us that the banks are now raising their cash with a new and equally ruinous method. It’s no good thinking that those of us who are mortgage free are ok because it will hit each and every one of us due to pensions, taxes, inflation etc.

Karen, the customers do a run last. The Directors have even ensured their massive golden handshakes for landing NR in the nasty black midden its now in.

My Mum works in a bank, she says it used to be a respectable profession and now it’s like being a dodgy car salesman - in the branches all they do is push products on people regardless of if they need or want them or not. :(

It’s sickening though - the way the higher up never suffer and the lower down who can’t afford to do. But I suppose it’s always easier to inflict suffering on people you don’t know and never see - and if you protect them, when your time comes, they’ll protect you.
