Cash for Harems - The Benefit of Muslim Polygamy
THE Mail has a story its editors must have dreamed about - “Polygamous husbands can claim cash for extra wives.”
This means wives - of which the Mail tells us a Muslim man can have four - can claim benefit as dependents. Good news. All is fair in this tolerant nation.
But this is the voice of Middle England. This is Islam and perceived benefit injustice in one story. Great days at the Mail.
And the story is illustrated by this picture from the Carry On film Follow that Camel.
Yes, that’s right - it’s Cash For Harems!
Now look out for thousands of unmarried mums and dads take up the veil.
The story goes like this:
“Polygamous husbands settling in Britain with multiple wives can claim extra benefits for their “harems” even though bigamy is a crime in the UK, it has emerged.
Opposition MPs are demanding an urgent change in the law, claiming that the Government is recognising and rewarding a custom which has no legal status and which is “alien” to this country’s cultural traditions.
Officials said yesterday a review was now under way into whether the state should continue to pay out income support, jobseeker’s allowance and housing and council tax benefits to ‘extra’ spouses.
Islamic law allows a man to take up to four wives, providing he can provide for them fairly and equally. But British law only ever recognises one spouse, while bigamy is punishable by up to seven years in jail.
However, if a husband and his wives arrive and settle in Britain having wed in a country where polygamy is legal, then the UK benefits system recognises his extra wives as dependents and pays them accordingly.”

Hi Fariha,
Thanks for your response.I noted your comments.Britain has a reputation regarding benefits for being a soft touch and massive fraud of its social security system involves hundreds of millions if not billions.
Your proud of this government? Blair’s government has lost credibility not only in the UK, but his politics have seriously damaged Britain’s international reputation(confirmed too by comments of important charities recently) and our own English senior citizens are often given a pittance to live on by a government that has thought nothing of spending billions on what many consider an illegal war.
Those entering the UK must be very pleased to get virtually everything for free when having not paid a penny tax compared to Brits who have given a lifetime of contributions.
Discrimination? Britain and its class system has always dumped on its own and the reasons why so many people are entering the UK and Europe is to escape even WORSE discrimation by their own governments and people back in their own country. The problems Fariha are too often in their OWN backyard.
Social security should not be on tap for anyone.Unfortunately, Blair’s Britain is seen as the land of the FREE(especially free money by droves of immigrants) and the Brits have been put on the backburner by do gooders like you in their own country.
Xenophobic? I mix with ALL nationalities. White, black, Chinese,Japanese……more than 250 nationalities but I’m against a system that shits too often on the Brits in PC Britain. In Britains overcrowded prisons today, one prisoner in seven is a foreigner who has broken the law and its the British taxpayer whose pays for their long stay in H.M Prisons.
Have a nice day sweetheart,
JOHN

In response to John Blake:
Immigrants w many wives who enter the UK AND require income support (and not all immigrants do!) are most likely poor and need benefits per dependent. The alternative is either denying benefits or denying them UK visas. One engenders poverty, the other is discrimination on religious grounds. I am proud that the Government has not resorted to either.
Also, the ’system’ is poorly designed and is ‘abused’ by all nationalities/ religions. This debate is not an excuse for your xenophobic rant.

British taxpapers money given to those entering Britain from a country where polygamy is legal.England`s outdated laws throwing money at foreigners although bigamy is a criminal offence in the UK.
Once again, Britain adapting itself to suit others from other countries instead of telling them to f*ck off……..is it any wonder that the system gets abused and Britain is seen as a soft touch ?
P.S And Britain`s senior citizens get the 26th LOWEST pensions in Europe.
