Madeleine McCann: The Exeter Connection

mccann-friends.jpg“MADELEINE – Now her parents’ friends are hit by hate campaign.”

Lat week, the Express told us of the hate campaign targeted at Kate and Gerry McCann. Today the talk is of “smears” against the McCanns family and friends.

Why has the Express promoted Madeleine McCann to its front page, positioning her in the spot reserved for Princess Diana? Is this what Diana would have wanted? What is the Express selling? Hope? Its credentials as a caring organ? Conspiracy?

Reading on, we learn that there is no hate. The McCanns friends have not been subjected to physical and verbal attacks. There is just a Portuguese newspaper Sol saying that detectives hold no-one above suspicion.

The police are pouring over inconsistencies in the friends’ statements. All nine are being treated as suspects.

And hospital consultant Russell O’Brien, friend to the McCanns, has, it is claimed, been spoken to by police about his time in Exeter. O’Brien and his partner Jane Tanner moved to the city weeks before their trip to Portugal. The Express reads Sol and thereby learns that Murat was in the Devon city for 10 days, arriving back in the Algarve on May 1.

Justine McGuinness, the McCanns’ campaign manager, tells us: “It is absolutely not the case that anyone in the party with the McCanns had ever met Robert Murat before they went on holiday.”

And that’s it.

And Madeleine McCann is still missing…

  1. 1 ide Says:

Yet another forum for more speculation, more dribble, more chinese whispers. No doubt the sames message over and over, one wild theory after another. I can hear all those fingers at work on their keyboards…hear they come.

  2. 2 Tony T Says:

whoa, I couldnt type fast enough, well this is the best yet, my granny was in exeter the week before at tesco’s and then went on holiday to Malta, is she a suspect too!!

  3. 3 Eric Says:

At least she has stopped carrying that poxy teddy bear - where has it gone? Has it been “abducted”? or perhaps they’ve given it to her to keep her quiet.
I reckon she’ll be “found” when the fund reaches 2 million squids.

  4. 4 Jeeves Says:

How about we do it like this: Ip dip, sky blue. Who’s it? Not you!

  5. 5 jimmy Says:

Don’t know about your granny Tony T, but there’s a Maltese waiter who works in a posh hotel in Exeter. When he served me I couldn’t help noticing he had a squint in one eye, which immediately warned me that he was a dodgy character. We got talking and it turns out he has a sister who lived in Portugal, but later on I found out that she was busted for drug running and had to flee to Morocco.

As if that wasn’t enough, this waiter’s wife had a brother who runs a website flogging holiday properties in the Algarve.

I mean - just look at all those connections. It’s so bloody obvious to me that these people need to be investigated. There are just too many coincidences there. Why aren’t the PJ doing their job? Why haven’t these people been brought in for questioning. Maybe they have. Yep, I reckon the PJ are on to them, but they can’t let it be known because of their damned secrecy laws.

  6. 6 MaryJoe Says:

This is to Eric YOU SELFISH PIG Why people like you have to be so nasty, there is no need for it! It always comes down to money in the end! remember the money is DONATED. The Mccanns are doing all they can to find Madeleine! Why be so nasty and negative towards them???? you twat!

  7. 7 Gail Says:

    Well said Mary Joe

  8. 8 Tony T Says:

has it come to light yet where Robert Murat went when he hired that car, I am not accusing him of anything, I was just curious as to why he needed to “go somewhere” in a hired car at such short notice?? anyone have the answer or is that all tied up in the red tape of the PJ

  9. 9 Jeeves Says:

Okay, come on, come on! Let’s stop the acrimony. Let’s either discuss this in a spirit of goodwill or forget about it.

  10. 10 Eric Says:

I am nasty, as you put it, because in my eyes they are disgraceful parents who now expect us to cough up money while they prance around on ridiculous “fact finding missions” in an attempt to blind the public to the real issue, which is - are these people fit to have children?
If all the stories are to be believed, these arseholes used to sedate the child because she walked in her sleep. So one can assume that she was sedated while they went out for a good time. This said, it is very likely - assuming an abduction actually took place - that she would not have woken up, screamed and possible frightened this “kidnapper” away, so once again they are to blame.
I wonder where Gerry is off to next - the Dhali Llama perhaps - or maybe the Beckhams.
How dare you call me a twat, just because I refuse to be hoodwinked into believing that someone as good and caring as a “consultant” and his GP wife could ever be at fault and that they should be forgiven for everything, just because they are “devastated”.
Devastated people don’t write blogs about what they had for dinner, what they wore to see the Pope or how far they ran today. That sort of thing is for attention seekers and ego-maniacs.
God help this poor girl, wherever she is - but God help her even more if she ever has to be returned to these shits.
OK bring it on all you balloon, bracelet and yellow ribbon disciples - I await your condemnation with zero trepidation.

  11. 11 Anonymous Says:

    Hear, hear, Eric!

Back to the topic… now that one of the McCann friends’ integrity is in question, maybe things are about to come full circle and the McCanns will be found negligent.

And no need to call me nasty either, it only impedes the discussion here.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=471365&in_page_id=1770

this is the first real insight into what is going on with the mccanns, imo a gr8 piece of journalism.

  13. 13 Eric Says:

    Liz
I take it your comments were tongue in cheek - this is the worst example of mawkish apologetic jouralism I have read since this whole sorry saga started.
Not one word of criticism is levelled at them - in fact if you didn’t know what they had done, you would have thought the writer was praising them for their actions. I also note that, in true Daily Mail style, not one of the “comments” has anything but gushing praise for both the writer and the McCanns.
No, this wasn’t insight at all. This was written by a person with the same mindset as those people who put flowers at crime scenes even though they didn’t know the victim. A person who feels that some good will brush of on them if they are seen to be “sharing” the grief.
The grief in this case is, as it should be, all the McCanns to bear. We should not be wearing hair shirts on their behalf. Wake up people, these shits are manipulating you all into believing they are saints.

  14. 14 Liz Says:

    Eric :)

  15. 15 stan Says:

well Eric, you seem to have the case under control..im glad your on it..i dont know what happened her..i dont know if the parents are at fault or who is..and neither do you..so therefore you are a fucking twat..

  16. 16 dge Says:

    I agree with Stan,
Eric you sound like a raving idiot. You have no clue what really happened and you are speculating like every dribbler on this forum.

  17. 17 orvokki Says:

Even small details become muddled in this case: In some early interview ( maybe Sun) Murat criticized Madeleine’s parents for leaving them sleeping unattended. Murat said that his own daughter has to be monitored at all times because she’s a sleep-walker. Who said that Madeleine is a sleep-walker?

  18. 18 dge Says:

    Hi Orvokki,
you are absolutely right, I read that very same article. Murat does seem to do a lot of comparing of his daughter to Madeleine. Very weird.

I haver never read a report anywhere that Madeleine is a sleep walker, I even tried to do a google search last night and nothing came up. Again I think people are misquoting and getting their references wrong, not to mention taking every far fetched theory as fact and perhaps paying too much attentions to tabloid press.

  19. 19 RN Dave Says:

    Eric
You have a valid case but your communication skills are extremely poor. I can only assume you are attemting (quite successfully it seems) to wind people up and fuel arguments.

The best thing to do is not respond to anything Eric writes and then he will get bored and hopefully fuck off.

  20. 20 Moderation Says:

I think the majority of the posts now are just a wind-up.
Kids on holiday from school and layabouts with too much time on their hands, hovering over their keyboards trying to be as nasty as possible to get a reaction.

Just ignore them and they’ll soon get bored.

  21. 21 wonkey donkey Says:

Eric I agree with you wholeheartedly and wonder when some of these plonkers are going to wake up and smell the coffee.

I think its a real shame that some of these fools who are slagging you off are unable to communicate without foul language.

MARYJOE , GAIL, STAN, DGE, RN DAVE you are obviously a bunch of low life uneducated fools unable to enter into an inteligent debate. I expect your probably on your school holidays with nothing better to do. Poor souls. Never mind the holidays will be over soon Your probably the same fools who are helping good old gerry to continue on his world tour. Keep buying the wrist bands and keep paying into the “fund”……………………….FOOOOOOLS

  22. 22 dge Says:

    Wonkey Donkey,
when was the word idiot considered foul language. Yes I am sure so many of us poor students on holiday are able to put money forward for the fund. Wonkey donkey you sound as idiotic as your name.

  23. 23 annabel Says:

Does anyone have a link to this recent article in Sol that makes the Exeter link and provides the so-called new details?

  24. 24 jimmy Says:

Wankey Donkey - congratulations. That was by far the most intelligent, articulate, and well thought out post I have seen on here, probably since the whole thing began. I hope it didn’t take you too long to compose it. And didn’t you shout so loudly at those other posters and tell them where to get off! Wow!!! Way to go!

“Eric I agree with you wholeheartedly and wonder when some of these plonkers are going to wake up and smell the coffee.” That’s a good one Wankey - I bet nobody on here had heard it before, but it certainly rolls off the tongue. “Wake up and smell the coffee”. You are such a one aren’t you! Do you have a scriptwriter, or is it all your own work?

By the way, I hope they’re not all missing you too much over at The Sun forum.

  25. 25 Richard Says:

Well Eric, the pro-McCann lobby did not disappoint you, however the tirade of foul-mouthed abuse suggests they do not have any reasoned argument to counter what you said. Like you, I have no idea what actually happened to the poor child - there are so many possibilities, however the only reals facts we have are; the negliegence of the McCann parents prior to M’s disappearance, and their bizarre behaviour since.

  26. 26 Bootywater Says:

Good job Eric! Tell it like it is! I have yet to see a tear from the eyes of these parents!!!!!!

  27. 27 Pete Says:

Sol is a tabloid but it does appear to have some decent sources and the information is interesting. I think this story shows just how much hard work is going on behind the scenes. It also tells me that everyone involved has been thoroughly checked out.
The Police must be following up every minor detail when even something like the Exeter connection is investigated. Nice one PJ.
These investigations can take time unfortunately, it took the UK police a long time to get Barry George for Jill Dando’s murder for example, even though they were onto him early on.
I think its the same in this case although I would expect an outcome in weeks at the most.

  28. 28 Linda Says:

Bootywater, my thoughts exactly about not yet seeing a tear come out of these parents. The very first interview that they gave set off warning bells and I remember saying to my husband “oh my goodness, was that meant to be a heartfelt emotional plea to a person who has possibly got my child and could be abusing them day in and day out”. Not one tear was seen……that to me is just not normal. Forget all the stuff that’s being reported about this and that in the case, because it’s actually little things like that that make people sit up and think “what’s really going on here”.

Hey Jimmy are you the same guy who has posted comments on the other Anorak blog? The one who looked at the photos of the smiling McCanns that I posted and you couldn’t believe it, or have I got you mixed up with somebody else. My apologies if you’re not him :o)

  29. 29 Peej2K Says:

Its about time the McCann’s were taken to court over their sheer negligence leaving their young children alone in a hotel room while they went for dinner. Why is everyone so determined to absolve the parents of blame? Because they are doctors? If they were working class and not middle class, the press would’ve had a field day with them, instead of snuggling up to these negligent parents.

  30. 30 Eric Says:

Well thank you all for your lovely reaction to my earlier postings. To those well wishers amongst you - no I will not fuck off. If you don’t like reading things that shatter your illusions about St Gerry of the Blessed Blog, then I suggest YOU go elsewhere.
One perceptive person amonst you noted that they had never seen these people shed a tear - quite true, although the apologists amongst us will say that everybody handles these things in their own way. Precisely!! Take the case of the New Zealander (name escapes me) who had murdered his girlfriend and buried her under his floorboards - he gave a very impressive and impassioned plea on TV - shows you can’t judge a book etc.
My old mate Harold Shipman handled his pressure by carrying on killing, so please don’t assume these people are “butter wouldn’t melt” just because the they spend a lot of time largeing in front of the cameras and saying all the right things. Watch how they say them, watch the total lack of emotion in their faces.
These people know more than they are saying, as do these mysterious friends who suddenly, after all this time, have come forward to give information about the chief suspect - had they had a two months news blackout where they live?
“Fighting funds” grease a lot of palms.
There - that should give the old bleeding hearts something to choke over their cornflakes on.
All insults are like water off a ducks back, so lets have some constructive alternative viewpoints. I don’t want to know how you cry every night for this poor girl - I want to know what makes you so sure that the McCanns are innocents in all this and why anyone with the slightest doubt is the devil incarnate.
