Princess Diana Says Belt Up In Car Safety Drive
THERE now follows a health and safety announcement about not wearing a seatbelt when travelling by motor vehicle, starring Princess Diana and assorted persons.
Diana: The Witnesses in the Tunnel, as broadcast on Channel 4, will shock.
As the Observer reports, viewers will be jerked from their comfort zone by graphic images of Princess Diana receiving oxygen from a French doctor, Frederic Mailliez. Diana has been involved in traffic accident and been thrown forward into the footwell behind the driver’s seat.
Patrick Jephson, Diana’s former private secretary, is appalled. “’I'm profoundly shocked,” says he.
Anthony Holden, Observer critic, Diana friend and biographer of the princess, is just as shocked: “It’s grossly intrusive and beyond the bounds of anything remotely tasteful, and will no doubt upset her sons enormously.”
People never tire of Diana, as they never tire of talking on behalf of her sons. But what if Diana’s death can prevent others from travelling without seatbelts? Might some good come of the tragedy?
Lord St John of Fawsley, a friend of Diana and a founding director of Sky TV, says Channel 4’s broadcast is “terrible”. “They certainly shouldn’t be subsidised publicly to follow up such causes. The best thing that could happen is that their public funding be taken away instead of going towards programmes like this.”
And: “I thought Diana was going to be left in peace, but Channel 4 is doing this for ratings or commercial gain and it’s really horrible.”
Diana will never be left in peace. Not until we get the message on seatbelts.
Not while so many of her friends and admirers are willing to step forward and tell the media about their shock and dismay.
And not when the tenth anniversary of her death is being celebrated in a Concert for Diana…

Wierd how everyone wailed and cried in the street when this happened. Thousands of people die like this every day, a lot are probably good people. Who cries for them? Just because Diana was ‘royal’ it doesnt make the bint special. And i think the millions of pounds per year that the public pays for the royal family entitles us to see what we want. After all, we do ‘own’ them.

If Diana’s death helps save one life…then I’m sure she would be smiling.
Car crashes kill more people than land mines & wars in this country.
I severely doubt landmines kill many people in this country at all. Or wars in this country for that matter.
But to the main point, I think that this footage could promote wearing seatbelts, and, as a young person growing whom was 7 at the time of Diana’s death, to me at the very least, I have always been given an impression of Diana as infallible and I’ve grown concerned that in many respects the media have stripped away the aspects of her person that made her human through this idealization, and that these images of her could perhaps help portray her memory as it should be- human.

Betty has it spot on. The girl was untouched before marriage, but by the end wasn’t too choosy

Vile pictures? I know someone who’s seen the show. There aren’t any. It;s actually a good programme and might help the princes see what happened to their mum. No paparazzi in sight…

for god sake let them both rest in peace. let her children live there lives and stop bring the past back up.would you like it if it was your mother?

Isn’t it about time they let her and dodi rest in peace after all this time? No she wasn’t wearing a seat belt and yes, paid the ultimate price as did dodi but don’t u think its dragged on far far too long?
The mail say’s its sickened by what channel 4 are doing, yet they interfere in peoples lives every single day causing unnecessary misery to all concerned by over exagerating stories and , lets face it, usually its a complete load of bull shit anyway just to bring in their weekly wage and keep to being a top selling news paper! They are being rather 2 faced after all the crap they have previously written about the royals - Dianna being no exception!
I think they should all back off and let her memory alone which would mean no more heart ache for poor William and Harry. If it were ordinary joe bloggs from down the road, the only write up they would receive was an obituary in the local paper and thats the way it should be - not raked up again and again and again.
The only thing all these people are doing is making it hard on the 2 lads and dodi’s family and causing suspision when its clear no one knows what happened - wether it was caused by the paparazi, an accident or a set up they will obviously never know. I think they should all just leave em alone and let them be a memory and pack up cashing in on such a tragic accident. Thats my opinion anyway!

or why not let Damien Hirst make an artistic morbid mobile….of a car crashing into a fountain….on a Royal Estate……oops forgot the seatbelt….Never mind..it will give Damien the opportunity ….to show off his morticious skills……..make the blood blue though Damien…..lets keep it Real

maybe it would be more tasteful if we just let Elton Johnny write a song about Car Crashes & Seatbelts…..hey maybe Kylie could sing it…..aand the money raised could be spent…on a Fountain……or a garden on a Royal Estate? Just an idea

She died in a car crash. She wasn’t wearing seat belt.

as for the opinion that Channel 4 are just profiteering…well maybe but has’nt everyone already tried robbing her gave already…whats new….or is it cos C4 are’nt Blue Bloods? Hey why dont the celebs and royalty have a sing song to raise cash car crash victims…..in Diana’s name of course….I would hate it to be tasteless and lacking class.
