Madeleine McCann: Increasing The Fear
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Still missing.
Today is Madeleine’s fourth birthday. And the newspapers are leading with pictures of Madeleine’s mother, Kate.
The Sun says “We share your pain”. There is nothing more terrible than this. The awfulness is all too apparent.
But what is to be gained from the Sun’s desire to turn it into a national experience? “Maddie - saddest birthday ever,” says the Sun. It invites readers to
post messages.
The Sun wants readers to place its poster in a window. “HELP FIND MADELEINE,” it says. “WEAR YELLOW FOR MADDIE.”
On the Internet the poster can be printed out in A4 or the bigger A3 size. It can be emailed: “The Sun today urges Britain to show support for the anguished family of snatched tot Madeleine McCann — by wearing yellow clothing in her honour.”
Says the Sun: “We want our army of readers to show they are shoulder-to-shoulder with Kate and Gerry McCann during the agonising wait for news of their missing four-year-old.”
The crime, the theft of little girl, is now an emotional experience for all right-minded people, and Sun readers.
But how does it help Madeleine to have a poster of her face in your car or shop window?
It keeps her name in the public consciousness? But who cannot think of the child having seen her parents?
What the poster does is to spread the fear, tap parents on the shoulder and say “That could be your child.” Take care. The paedophiles are out there. They are watching. It could be you. The McCanns’ nightmare – every parent’s worst nightmare - could be yours.
But the theft of a child is a rare crime. All the more so when the thief is a stranger. Paedophiles are not lurking on every street corner. The poster creates an environment of anxiety.
But one paper is getting it right. The Independent leads with not the face of Madeleine’s mother, who, in public at least, appears a woman of admirable strength, but with Madeleine.
“A stolen child. A missed birthday. A baffling mystery,” says the headline.
The paper reviews the evidence so far. That blonde woman and two men seen with little girl in petrol station: “Would abductors really stop at the first petrol station just out of the resort?” The man taking photographs of children on the beach: “And would suspects stay at Ocean Village, under the noses of police?”
Stella Cash was staying on the Mark Warner resort from where Madeleine was taken. “She was working at the Duke of Holland bar, 100 metres from the place where Kate McCann, Madeleine’s mother, walked from the bar past the swimming pool, up her apartment’s 10 stone steps and through the child gate to look in on her daughter at 10pm,” says the paper.
“Several Mark Warner guests dined at Ms Cash’s restaurant that night and she later drove home past the McCanns’ corner apartment at 10.50pm but no police officer has questioned her about what she saw. ‘I don’t think I saw anything suspicious but then I don’t know what they might call suspicious,’ she said.”
The police have not questioned everyone who was on the complex that night.
And now the police operation is being scaled down. “Does the decision to stop the ground search reflect a disastrous investigation?” asks the Indy. “No, says David Hill, a former area commander of the National Crime Squad. ‘There’s nothing alarming about scaling it down,’ he said. ‘If they have done the search thoroughly, there’s no point going over the same ground. You must scale that side of it down and concentrate your resources.”
This is a criminal case. It is the theft of child. The police are looking for a criminal or a criminal gang.
Things are bad enough. There is no need to increase the fear…

It is the most imaginable pain to not know where your child is and I do pray for her safe return. However I am sick and tired of seeing the McCanns all over the newspapers and TV.
I feel for all of the other thousands of children missing before and since Maddie’s disappearance, no mention or coverage of them??
The fact that because of their status as doctors makes it acceptable to leave their children unattended at any time, also the friends of theirs who did the same, night after night, this was not an isolated evening, and it was just bad luck whose child was to go missing.
They are fast becoming in line as the latest posh and becks, and it is almost like the circumstances into how the poor girl was able to be taken in the first place is irrelevant.
I doubt the constant visits to mass will ever help the torment they feel for their unforgivable neglect, and so it shouldn’t…………. God bless you maddie xxxxxxxx

I, as, I would hope all, who know of the plight of Madeleine McCann hope very much that the poor child will be returned safely. But, like most children that are taken, it is very rare that her kidnapper/s intends to return her.
I believe the media uproar, that Madeleine, unlike most other kidnapped children, has benefited from will only work against the goal of her safe return. The child will become too large a danger to the kidnapper’s safety, as if s/he were seen with her, Madeleine would be easily recognised, leading to the arrest of the kidnapper. Because of this, I find it horribly likely that the kidnapper will choose to ‘dispose’ of his incriminating ‘evidence’, and end the life of poor Madeleine McCann.
What the media uproar does not seem to be bringing up, is that the tragedy of this poor girl is not a new thing. Death surrounds us, innocent children being kidnapped, murdered, and forced to do things no child, or even adult should have to do. This happens in our culture, in our countries, just as it does in others, perhaps not as much in some places, but the fact remains. What Madeleine McCann is a tragedy, most likely now irreversible. Such a thing should be learnt from.
The parents of Madeleine McCann will most likely, in my opinion, have to eventually cope with and accept the loss of their daughter. I will not try to assign blame to how they lost their child, as whatever mistakes they made will haunt them forever, they have enough pain.
I truly wish though, as much pain as they may be going through, their daughter is the true victim, that they would use the money they are recieving from the many donations of the public to try and raise awareness. Fund and/or produce a magazine about such tragedies, with weekly lists, pictures and information on missing children, as children go missing every week. Travelling the world, and meeting the Pope do not seem to me as appropriate ways to spend the money being given to them out of the kindness of people’s hearts.
This is my opinion, others may and will differ.

Dear parents, l
Like you i have 3 children which i adore. i can understand your pain, because a child is the most precious thing that can happen in your life. Be positive. you should make more campain in the Maltese islands, where people reported seeing Madeleine.
There won’t be a day were people will forget of your suffering . i’m more then sure that you will have prayers from around the world, until you will meet your daughter again…. Good Luck I hope this will be very soon. Do not give up. Keep fighting for your daughter’s safe journey back.
For anyone who has the slightest information. Do call the police and talk re: anything that could help Madeleine and all her family.
Please help Madeleine go back home. …..

Stel: Why do you say the last person to see Madeleine is a paedophile? Where did you get that information and to whom are you referring? I certainly havent seen anything on the news about that and I’ve been watching round the clock.
Suz: How can you possibly draw a comparison between Murat’s daughter and Madeleine? It’s much much worse for Madeleine because she’s been taken away from her parents, and subjected to God knows what, if indeed she is still even alive. A tiny, innocent child’s life is what is at the heart of all this, not some inconvenient ‘time out’ for Murat and his ex family. Shame on you. And regardless of whether people want to lay blame on the parents or not, this again is neither here nor there. We should be concentrating on doing all we can to find that poor girl, there will be plenty of time for recriminations later when she is found.
God Bless Madeleine, we are all praying for you and trying to help as best we can.

I am sorry for the parents of maddie and I believe it is every parents nightmare they are going through. However, I cannot understand any parent who leaves three children on their own, especially abroad, most countries abroad welcome children at restaurants and bars, people don’t look at you on holiday when taking your children out for the night, it’s only the stuffy british that frown at you, and make comments ‘that child should be in bed’.
However, a child can also go missing if you turn your back for one minute, and if the child is being watched a minute is all they need.
My son had for a period of time use to get up early in the morning and disappear out with out waking any one, not having double glazing I had to nail the windows down, but he still got out through the smallest window in the house, which was also nailed down.
The first place I thought these people would take Maddie is across to Africa, they could of taken her to Spain, but would’nt that of been to obvious, all borders should of been closed immediately, I persume the Police take these things lightly and assume they have just wondered off, but where children are concerned nothing should be assumed.
Also, Have the police done a pyschological profile (Paul Britton), and I no some people are sceptic’s but have they tried a well known psyche, they have been used by police before. I would try anything!
I hope this is not a peadaphile ring as the last person to admit seeing Maddie is a peadaphile, I hope the Police have got people undercover watching these people anyway to uncover these very sick minded people, or should I say monsters.

Charge the parents.
May 20th, 2007 at 12:29 am
Ok, it’s horrible for the parents, but it’s not just their life and their daughter’s life that has been runined by their actions. Other people have been put on trial in the tabloids and their life has been ruined.
May 20th, 2007 at 12:26 am
I think it’s about time her parents were charged with leaving their children in danger unattended, so they can see what it must be like for other people to have all their personal details printed and accusations of being pedophiles when they probably didn’t have anything to do with it. These innocent people have had their life ruined because some bimbo reporter thought Murat looked creepy because he had a glass eye and was being helpful, when evidence of blame could be put against them as much as anybody. I don’t see how their daughter is more important just because of mass hysteria, than Murat’s daughter who is going to be teased at school that her dad is a pedo. Their room wasn’t that close to the restaurant as they had to go out the security gates to reach their apartment.
There’s a law in Portugal that says this
The article #138 (Portuguese Penal Code) says that it’s a crime not to attend children, not providing the necessary “surveillance” regarding children. So, any action that puts a child (or children) at danger/risk, is a crime. This type of crime is punished from 1 year to 5 in Prison, or from 2 to 8 years in prison, if the action is done by parents.
This is not a common type of crime in Portugal, but one Court from Porto (a town in the North) has found a father guilty by leaving a 4 month child, for brief moments, on the street.
If the outcome of action brings the death to the child, the penalty goes from 3 to 10 years or from 2 to 8, if it brings significant physical damage to the victim.

This message comes to response to Maria’s message. I agree that Nothing is impossible to God, and I pray that little Madeleine will return and that she will very soon forget this horrific adventure. I did not try to pass judgement on the parents on my previous message and I know that these people regardless of the outcome will always regret their choice to go out that night. Despite the fact that ugly thoughts do not cross our minds when we leave our kids unattended, unfortunately they should because we do not live in the years of innocence any more and evil lurks all around us. What is done is done, and indeed concentration should be on little Madeleine. May God keep her SAFE!

Hi
I have heard alot of people on message boards saying that this is all the parents fault and that they should burn in HELL. This is not true that parents obviouslt thought that there children would be safe. I have also heard people say that this was neglect. Maybe it was a little but you don’t go out at night leaving your kids in thinking ” OH maybe my girl will be abtucted or OH I don’t give a damn about my kids I’lljust leave them in by themselves” you go out thinking that your kids will be safe. Anyway we should be concentrating on getting wee Madeleine back safe and sound. It might seem nasty to say this but Madeleines been missing for 2 weeks now and the chances of her parents getting her back are quite slim. But we should never give up. We pray for wee Madeleine each day. Remember this everyone NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GOD!!!!!!!
All my hope to The McCann Family.
