Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat And More Questions
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Still missing.
But today there is news. The daily front-page shots of Madeleine’s traumatised parents are moved further within the papers to make space for the head of Robert Murat.
“MADELEINE BRITISH MAN IS QUIZZED!” says the Mirror’s front-page headline.
Robert Murat
After the speculation the paper delivers a welter of facts. Robert Murat lives with his mum. Robert Murat is in his 30s. Robert Murat lives with his mother in a villa 150 yards from the apartment where Madeleine McCann was snatched.
The Sun (“MADDIE: BRIT QUIZZED”) says Murat lives 100 yards from that McCann apartment. Like the Mirror, the Sun produces a front-page picture of “one-eyed Murat”. The Mail hears that Murat lost his eye in a BMX accident when he was a boy. The Mail says Murat lives 80 yards from Madeleine’s holiday apartment.
Murat is “stocky”. He offered to help the police hunt as a “translator”. He lives in Casa Liliana, with his mum Jenny.
The Suspect
The Sun’s Julie Moult considers the evidence. And delivers a piece entitled “stories of a fantasist”. “He always seemed so eager to get involved in the police investigation,” says the Sun’s woman–on-the-scene. “Robert claimed he had a daughter just like Madeleine and said he felt compelled to do anything he could. But to me he seemed like classic fantasist.”
The Sun introduces Martin Brunt, the crime news correspondent from its sister organ, TV’s Sky news.
He says Murat told him he’d been taken inside the McCanns’ apartment by police.
Sky news correspondent Ian Woods says he asked Murat to help him speak with locals.
“I met him and had a conversation with him. I tried to find out as much as I could about him,” says Woods, who checked out Murat’s details. “They did check out, and I left it at that for the time.”
The Mail’s Neil Sears also spots Murat. In “My encounters with a man ‘who just wanted to help’”, Sears tells Mail readers, “There was something more to the friendly expat who called himself ‘Rob’ than met the eye.”
Murat made Sears “feel slightly uncomfortable”.
But it was the Sunday Mirror’s Lori Cambell who alerted police to Murat’s behaviour, she saw as “creepy”.
Writing Wrongs
So much for investigative journalism. Questions were asked but nothing more was done. Murat is with police because he made a show of himself, because he acted as if working in an official capacity. Even though the Times says Murat was acting as “an official translator”.
So now the man in the chinos, with the glass eye, who lives with him mum and whose estranged wife, from Hockering, near Norwich, tells a neighbour “How could someone do something so terrible to little girl like that?’ is all over the papers.
Is Murat guilty? The papers produce nothing to indicate that he is. But if Murat is involved, look out for the stories of how British journalism cracked the case.
And look out for Madeleine McCann. Still missing…

HAhaha, just reading some of the early responses about Murat, and then thinking of how, this week he was awarded 600K in damages from his name being dragged through the mud. Dont you just love how people jump on a bandwagon because a newspaper says so? Its shocking. Makes you realise why things like the death penalty shouldn’t be brought back if people are found guilty without trial for ‘looking dodgy’. Also, shows you the power media moguls like Murdoch have when they own multiple newspapers and can sway opinions. No one should be able to own more then one media source in my opinion.

And so it turns out that all the speculation over the past year has been completley wide of the mark and a complete load of b*ll*cks. I’d like to thank all the people on this thread who have proved that a lack of human compassion is no bar to sanctimonious self-rightousness. A big shout out to our much loved british press for once again demonstrating their complete disregard for the truth or any kind of journalistic integrity whatsoever. (special mention for their cousins in portugal for their rigour in immitating the high standards maintained in the good ol’ uk).
extra kudos go to the daily mirror reporter who’s extraordinary investigative abilities fingered Mr Murat in the first place. obviously someone who wants to help find a missing 4 year old MUST be “weird” and therefore placed on some list peadophile’s straight away (especially if they commit the crime off having a glass eye).
Well done all round hope the air’s not to thin on that high ground you all occupy.

Frank I dont think that the people rallying around the Mccanns are feeling guilty in any way. I just think they are good people who care about others and not just themselves.

Thanks, Frank. It’s better to face the truth rather than hide from it. I know I can’t change a person’s opinion but I hope little Maddie’s case will teach us all not to leave our children alone!
October 3rd, 2007 at 7:34 pm
Emma you are never going to change some peoples idea that the McCann’s are the victims here when its their child who’s paying for their neglect. I wonder if some of those who rally around arnt feeling guilty themselves because they’ve done the same thing themselves. Loved your post-it was spot on.
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:17 pm
Kim, you seem to know your way with this. But they do look guilty. The mom (at least) has been looking guilty since the first day. How can they have not called a sitter for their children? And why didn’t the abductor take the smallest, most easiest child to carry? Have you not noticed from the beginning that there has been something wrong with this case. If my children were missing in a resort I would investigate for an open door or window and maybe think they wandered off not immediately start shouting my child has been taken. How can someone LOOK guilty? Easy. Take a look at a picture of the McCann parents. I think you are way too in the case detectives are trying to solve, Kim. You are obsessed with believing the parents did nothing wrong…but they did! They left a child alone in a HOTEL! With many people in it. That they did not know of which type. It is meant to happen if you do such a foolish thing.
September 30th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
I think that you shouldnt believe the tabloids as its a known fact that they make things up and exaggerate the truth. Unfortunately that is what makes people buy them. If I came back to a holiday villa and one of my children had disappeared the first thing that would go through my mind is that someone had taken her. The huge campaign was to make this as high profile as possible, they thought that this would increase the chance of finding her and as for them looking so guilty….I mean what a ridiculous thing to say!! How on earth are they supposed to look. You have got it into your head through all the rubbish that you have been reading that they are guilty and therefore every time you see a picture of them you think they look guilty. I mean how can someone look guilty!!! Also an abductor wouldn’t take 3 children, it would be hard enough taking 1.
September 30th, 2007 at 12:08 am
One more question…if they took Maddie why didn’t they take the other kids too?
September 28th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
Kim, well who else could it be? I don’t think the McCanns murdered their child, I think they killed her by accident. I think they gave Maddie a sleeping pill and she might have strated to choke and when the McCanns were trying to save her, she died. It’s just a theory but don’t you think it’s strange how the McCanns are trying to find excuses for everything? I think so! I just pray poor Maddie is alive and safe and even if the McCanns turn out to be innocent-which I highly doubt due to their many lies about doing things which clearly give them a guilty sense-they will still be guilty for leaving three little children in a hotel room. Why had the father not investigated when the door was open? Can you answer that? Why did the mother was so set on to the fact that Maddie was gone instead of maybe somewhere in the hotel? Why did they make a HUGE campain when they could have kept this quiete with advertsiment for rewards? Can you answer all that? And why…pray tell, do they always look so guilty on every photo? Maddie is a really cute child, but kids like her get abducted, kindapped and raped every day. Everyone is focused on the McCann case not only because they feel sorry for Maddie…but because the sense of some secret between the parents is everywhere!

You dont kill a child then calmly go out for dinner. It is NOT the Mccanns fault that some sick evil person took their child. It is the fault of the person that took her.
September 27th, 2007 at 12:11 am
‘Cynic ‘ is spot on. If anyone still believes that a sick person took her, well its as good a theory as any. But as stated since day one, this child went missing because of her parents neglect. If they had been where they should ,which was in the apartment with their child instead of out having a good time, Maddy wouldn’t have gone missing. What they are going through they brought on themselves. If the question is -if they were involved in her death- where and when would they have disposed of her body. Well the sea is only a few minutes away isn’t it? And it would only take a few moments to get there. I turn the question around and say’ if shes alive-where is she’

What a pity that the privacy and secrecy law did not extend to that family in Morocco - just going about their everyday routines and BANG - every newpaper in the land is banding about their photograph and accusing them of piggy backing Madeleine McCann. This lot really has gone too far. As I said last night, it did not need a mastermind to see that the photograph was not Madeleine, it was just a vaguely similar hairstyle - her parents would have known immediately that it was not her, so I fail to understand why they are reported to have been hopeful of it being her - they knew that it was not a photo of their daughter, or at least they should have. Another day of distraction from the real issue of finding out what happened to Madeleine

When Millie Dowler and Holly and Jessica all went missing their family homes were checked in detail, they have to eliminate the family as suspects.
80% of all murders are commited by family members, so why are you so upset Kim that the good doctors are under suspicion?
If their little girl was abducted , then they helped pave the way by leaving the children alone.
Don’t you want justice for Madeleine? I do
September 26th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
A child goes missing so it MUST be her parents! HUH? Where on earth is the sense in that? Its much more likely to be some sick person. There are people who wouldnt think twice about abducting a child for whatever reason. If it was her parents then where is the body? How and when could they have hidden it? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Its plain CRAZY to believe that. And there is no evidence at all to justify these ridiculous accusations. You lot have no idea how the Mccanns must be feeling and hopefully you never will. Wonder how you would cope if you were accused of doing something so awful when you didnt then have a few awful people saying dreadful things about you.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
But who else could it have been apart from the parents? I bet they’re going to blame it on her little siblings when they find poor Maddie’s body hidden in their basement or something!

Ha ha!!! A witty arse hole!

Kim you shouldnt call yourself an arse hole. It was youself you were talking about wasnt it
September 26th, 2007 at 6:13 pm

Exactly Scotty - couldnt agree with you more - so if the ass- hole parent aint interested and they are the only ones who could sanction psychic intevention, then why bother to investigate it
September 25th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
Alice. why is it cruel and hurtful to call in a psychic?. Cruel and hurtful to who? the so called parents? I myself couldn’t care about their feelings they were the ones responsible for this whole mess arnt they?
I know a lot of psychics are charlatans. But this one is widely respected in the USA and has even worked with the police I believe. and well the investigation has all but come to a dead end hasn’t it?And if she could provide even a slight hint about it well let her. . And I didn’t know that catholics are against psychics- whys that.? Any catholics out there I’d like to know if this is a religious or McCan thing, or are they afraid what one might say?. Anyone as desperate to find their child as they say are would try any thing no mater how extreme to find that child.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
Cut out the psychic crap = it is cruel and just not called for = If the parents wanted this they would have called for it themselves. Anyone who projects this type of suggestion is being very, very hurtful, particularly as the parents are so against it through their religion
