Madeleine McCann: Sergey Malinka And Robert Murat
MADELEINE McCann is still missing. And readers are introduced to Sergey Malinka.
In “RUSSIAN WEB GEEK QUIZZED”, the Mirror looks beyond Robert Murat and sees 22-year-old Malinka. His parents’ flat is two minutes walk from where Madeleine was stolen.
Malinka knows Murat, having helped him to set up a website. Malinka has a computer shop in the area. Setting up websites is what he does for a living.
The Mirror sees computer equipment being removed by police from the Malinka apartment. There is mention made of emails on his laptop from Murat, the “one-eyed Briton”.
Is this now a story that embraces paedophilia and the internet? Is this what the Mirror is hinting at?
Says Malinka: “It’s definitely not me. I’ve just had my residency papers approved and checks are always made for criminal convictions. I’ve none whatsoever. I did do some work for Robert. He wanted a website created and I got it together.”
But the Sun hears Portuguese TV report that Malinka has convictions for “sex crimes.” Does he have any criminal convictions? “Not as far as I know,” says Moscow-born Malinka.
And the Express sees more. It hears reports that “several links to paedophile sites, encrypted emails and messages” were found on three computers removed by police from Murat’s home. It hears of removed tapes featuring “depraved sexual acts” and bestiality.
And there‘s a cellar beneath Murat’s home. Or a “secret chamber”, as the Mirror has it. The Sun says this “void” measures nine yard by five yards. “I’m totally, totally innocent,” says Murat.
At Murat’s home, police are tearing down a garden shed. Police are searching a water tank. Police are demolishing an interior wall. From operating in secret, the Portuguese police are now making a lot of noise.
People are being questioned. This faces are being seen. Lives are being investigated.
And Madeleine McCann is still missing…

I hope they have closure and at the end of the day the Mccann’s said it themselves “The guilt will never leave us” and that would be something pretty heavy guilt to carry around with you. I firmly believe she was snatched to order but now there is a problem her face is world wide and she has a very distinct eye.Something you couldn’t possibly have seen from anywhere but close up. This complicates things I hope she is returned safe.

Gosh Claire,
you better get yourself over to Portugal….I bet those greasy Portugeezers Policemen, who have done actual Police training, hadn’t thought of things like that.
Or even better, why not stay in the UK and try and solve all the cases over here? So glad we’ve got someone like you on our shores.

What has come from the search of the computers and the phone records, these are definately suspicious and need to be investigated. Has anyone checked their bank records. If they are anything to do with the abduction then there might be deposits of money in their accounts. IT is worth a check. I think they are involved in someway. Surely we can trace the internet line properly. Also the hotel needs to be checked out. Are the owners involved aswell!!!!
I really hope they find her soon.

It is tragic what has happened but having a 4 yr old son I have to state that Madeleines parents should under no circumstances have left those children alone in that room. What has happened could have been prevented, sorry but true.

Gazeta Digital - Madeleine’s abduction - “Special Report - Part I” - Highligths (posted at 05:05 am, May 20 2007)
“The main suspect (and only one, until now) in the Madeleine McCann abduction, Robert Murat, was under close police surveillance since the morning of May 4, the following day to the child disappearance.”
(…)
“Murat took the initiative to talk with two Portuguese journalists, saying that (…) he was “deeply disturbed with the abduction, because he had a three year old daughter who, by coincidence, was also called Madeleine”. His daughter, as was later revealed, is called Sophia.”
(…)
“That day (Saturday 5th) around 7:00 pm, a Portuguese journalist saw him sitting at a table of Batista’s supermarket terrace, chatting with a young man – the Russian computer expert Sergei Malinka who was also questioned by police and is a witness in this case.”
(…)
“Murat’s business web site, Romigen.com, (…) was registered in April 6, 2006, at 07:11 pm, but with the name of Robert Muray (a possible mistake, as letter “t” and “y” are togheter in the keyboard). The address is from Casa Liliana, the residence of Murat’s mother, Mrs. Jennifer Ann Murat. The home number and mobile phone are from Murat’s mother.”
(…)
“The site was closed on May 16, at 23:00 pm and put back online May 19, 01:36 am, sources told Gazeta Digital. On May 15, Polícia Judiciária declared formally that they had a suspect, later revealed by he media to be Robert Murat.”
(…)
“Portuguese TV channel SIC also said that Murat, a regular Internet user, stopped accessing the Net on the day Madeleine was abducted, during almost one week.”

Suz - I find your comments both ignorant and offensive. It is difficult enough to find some resemblance to fact in the stories published by the media without your irrational rantings and self righteous judgements adding to thread. If you are considering a career in police investigation, I suggest you find an alterative. There is seldom smoke without fire – the Portuguese Police surely have some skills and besides time will tell, let’s hope and pray.

While I feel sympathy for the parents and whoever took the girl is evil, from their irresponsible behaviour of leaving two babies and a toddler alone with the windows unlocked, when the hotel have child care facilities, might have harmed lots of other people’s lives too, by being accused of a crime in the tabloids and media if they didn’t commit it. Having a right to a private life is a right in the European Convention of Human rights, but these people who are being accused by the tabloids without any proof are having every moment of their lives talked about and their children are suffering from it.
Maybe the girl got out the unlocked French windows and went to the sea? It seems as much of a possibility as her being abducted when maybe nobody knew the children were alone. Maybe they think blaming somebody else will relieve their guilt of acting irresponsibly. Wouldn’t it be awful if another little girl had her life ruined because her daddy was accused of a crime he didn’t commit if they really do know what happened to her.

Murat is having an affair with Malinka’s partner so it’s why the call is shown to go to Malinka’s house.
May 19th, 2007 at 1:58 pm
How does it point to those men? Just because tabloid newspapers say it because it’s the only news they have to print as most investigations are in secret.
May 19th, 2007 at 1:56 pm
Murat was taken in because some bimbo reporter thought he looked dodgy because he has a glass eye and was being helpful so reported him. There have been lots of investigations, but it’s because he lived near the reporters that they were able to know about it and film it. The other investigations are being carried out in secret and reporters don’t know where they are.
May 19th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
You can’t go around calling people pedos just from tabloid newspaper reports. Newspapers are always being sued for lying. They probably know the men don’t have enough money to take on the newspaper lawyers.
May 19th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
The tabloid newspapers in this country are scum and don’t care whose life they ruin if it makes a good story, at the same time forcing idiot attention seeking celebrities such as wags on us. The reporter who first reported Murat seemed like a bimbo. There was a boy who went missing in Greece and his mother still hasn’t found him, but nobody made a big fuss about that. It is a tragedy, but we have to remember to not let it turn into mass hysteria and do things just for the sake of doing it, even if it won’t help find Madeline. That Malinka reminds me of somebody. Is it Rob from Eastenders?

What I read is double strange he said he’d not spoken to the Russian man for at least a year but yet according to mobile phone records they had both spoken to each other at 11.30 that same night Madeleine had gone missing so I think Why should this man lye that He’d spoken to just a business associate for the web site I dont think so these two men must have been in a lot more contact other thatn business as they were talking on moblies at 11.30 at night thats not normal for normal business!!!!!!!!
May 19th, 2007 at 12:02 am
I think that the two guys they have in question are very dodgy but I still think that little maddie is now not in Portugal thanks to Robert marak and that dodgey pedo Russion guy if he was such a nice guy why would prevous colleges say what they think about him they say hes a pedo hes a guy whos had sex with young girls and hes got pedo shit on his web site hes wants bringing back in and putting under emense pressure

Did you see the interview with Malinka on Sky news last night? I feel he has something to hide as he would’nt answer all of the questions. I know he couldnt with some due to the investigation but why when asked ‘did you speak to Murat by mobile on the night Madeleine disappeared?’ he replied ‘no comment’. If he didnt he would say he didnt. He obviously did speak to him and we need to know why. To make Murat a suspect the Police have some facts, there is more to this than meets the eye. Time will only tell but as we all know the whole world is desperate for the little girl to be reunited with her loving family.

I think they need to check the estranged wifes homes in the UK he said he was their doing gardening if i herd right , also ALL points to Both men, PLEASE DON’t wait till it’s too late Find that angel QUICK!! And yes i feel more of a pedifile type abduction then someone wanting a child or the babies would have been taken.
May 18th, 2007 at 3:56 pm
thats disgusting to th person who said they shud go to a poor nation and buy children its people like u who make the sick paedos alive ok so if u were poor y nt sell ur kid when times hit low u sik twisted individual a child is a child regardless where they r from wether its madeleine or whoever and are all worth the same
May 18th, 2007 at 3:21 pm
The Russian also phoned Robert Murat that night she went missing at 11:40.
Even though he says he spoke last to Murat a year before.
One can only hope a childless couple abducted her and not some sick individuals.
But I pray she get to feel the loving arms of her parents again.
May 18th, 2007 at 8:42 am
Did I hear incorrectly? Last week upon watching sky news from South Africa I remeber hearing that Morat had visited his estranged wifes house in the UK and had done some “gardening”. Does anyone have any info as to whether this is indeed true and what the British police have done about this if this is the case?
May 18th, 2007 at 7:43 am
If Madeleine was abducted for a childless couple, they would have taken one of the younger twins instead-much easier to get away with and to conceal-this is surely linked to paedophiia

The statistics on child disappearances (in order of significance) seem to suggest:
1. As long as it is not a custody dispute (in which the father either kills self and children, or disappears with the children to try to establish a new identity) or a simple case of wandering child, the child is usually murdered within a few hours.
2. The mother’s boyfriend/de facto usually did it
3. One of the parents or a family member often did it.
4. A family friend, acquaintence or neighbour sometimes did it.
5. Some random, outside party may in very rare cases be involved.
I’m not sure about the international pedophile ring, even though the media love the notion. It has too much of that old urban myth about white slavers abducting girls in shopping centres/movie complexes- and can’t the pedophiles just go to one of the poorer nations and buy as many children as they want for a few dollars?
May 17th, 2007 at 11:46 pm
I think it very wrong for anyone to comment on whether Robert Murat or Sergey Malinka had anything to do with little Madeline’s apparent abduction. Fact is she was left alone and so far that is the only FACT that exists. Portuguese police and their laws are very different to the UK so what gives the UK population the right to criticise their investigation. I take my hat off to the Police chief Olegario Sousa who has remained tightlipped onthe case, as frustrating it might be to the journalists. How many people have been convicted in the UK only to find out years later they were wrongly convicted. Shame on each and every one of you pointing the finger at those two men who so far….despite thorough searches being carried out have remained innocent. As for the reporters they are only trying to sell papers and remain earning big bucks….they don’t care of the outcome for anyone they target.
May 17th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
I totally agree with John Evans. I’m really sorry that Madeline was abducted, and always hoped she would be safely returned home to her parents, but as the case unravels, seems as if Murat/Malinka are both involved. Murat with links to paedophile sites on his pc and Malinka’s convictions for ’sex crimes’. They make a dodgy duo protesting their innocence. If Madeline has been murdered, there will be fury. I reckon they are both very clever criminals. Murat playing the role of ‘helper’ to see how the investigation is going covin order to cover his tracks if necessary…
I think the abdction of Madeline to another family who were desperate for a child is a wild goose chase. Who would want a child under such extreme pressure, with everyone on the lookout for her?
It is good that the media have pursued this case because it could have been neglected/forgotten about, plus it shows that there is still good in the majority of peoples’ hearts.
I do hope and pray that this case will have a happy outcome, but I would agree with Anorak saying that ‘lies are being investigated’.
May 17th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
This has now become very obvious. Someone, and I assume it was Murat or a person connected to the place had been watching the family and had seen they were too casual looking after their kids. A chance for an opportunist! She’s gone! Abducted! Taken away and now with a different family who has paid money! And the people the police have interviewed are involved but have covered their tracks. She is either dead because we are dealing with paedaphiles or , as I said, she has been bought just the same what happens to a lot of kids. A lesson! Your kids come first. 24hours a day, you cannot afford to leave them for one second!!!!
May 17th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
have you noticed how every reporter from every newpaper / tv channel is claiming to have been the one to have expertly sussed out the one-eyed, secretive, lives with mummy, likes children, has a cellar Robert Murat? and of course he’s half Portugese / half Brit so that keeps everyone happy.
And since when did web-designers become creepy geeks?? though of course he is Russian…….
Such BAD reporting about such a horrendous occurence.
And when did the Brit police become the latest must-have for solving serious crime in a foreign country? They can’t solve it here………. Grrrrrrr.
Maybe Murat is the one, who knows? certainly not Sky et al.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:06 am
Yes, they are. British police are out there. But the seems to be lots of guess work going on… There can be no end of suspects.
May 17th, 2007 at 10:52 am
Are they getting help from British investigators who have experience in this kind of thing?
Perhaps they are on the right track but the papers, as usual, are just making it gut wrenching, sensational reading. God forbid if they are on a wild goose chase with this lot and wasting valuable time, energy and resources.
