Madeleine McCann: Do You See The Light?
MADELEINE McCann is missing. Madeleine McCann is still missing.
But the papers have largely moved on. The Star leads with Liverpool and a reality TV singer in a bikini; the Mail and Mirror leads with Ibrahim Adam, Cerie Bullivant and Lamine Adam, three terror suspects on the run.
But above the picture of grief-wracked Liverpool football captain Steven Gerrard, the Sun remembers Madeleine. What news of the girl from the paper that cared enough to rename the missing girl “MADDIE”?
There is no news. But there is a picture of Madeleine’s mother. She’s in Fatima, the “world-famous holy shrine of miracles”.
“MUM IN PAINFUL VIGIL AT HOLY SITE,” says the Sun. “One kiss…1,000 payers.” And we are back to watching the parents. They share a “tender moment”. Mum carries a “yellow rose for Maddie”. “Silent pray,” says a caption beneath a picture of the parents at payer, “…they ask for daughter’s return.”
This is “tearful Kate McCann”. Her pain is evident. “Madeleine’s mum prays for a miracle,” says the Express, the only other paper to feature Madeleine McCann on its front page.
And it has news. Michaela Walczuch, the “German girlfriend” to prime suspect Robert Murat is being questioned by police. Her husband, one other point in what the Express calls a “bizarre love triangle” is also in interview.
They are questioned about their whereabouts on the night of Madeleine’s disappearance. Police want to know of their dealings with Murat. And then they are free to go and told they are no longer suspects.
Back in the Church. And the Express senses a development: “After Mass a streak of light shone through a stained glass window as the McCanns spent half and hour in private prayer at the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows.”
And finally the police have a lead…

I have checked the paper everyday hopeing and praying that the person who kidnapped maddy will one day let her come home to her mum, dad, brother and sister and of course the whole McCann family. The parents should not be to blame they locked the doors and windows and what the person above is saying is stupid ,of course it was a mistake maybe not a tiny one but it was a mistake. I know people who go on holiday and leave their kids and by the end of the night they return and they are perfectly fine. So the person above needs to wind their neck in and stop making fun of the others opinion so. All I can say is that Kate and Gerry are wonderful parents and they truly thought they would be fine. Its just one of these things that happen. I honestly hope and pray the Maddy is found safe and sound and has the perfect life every child should have. XxXxXxXxX

Ok, I have to say that it is interesting how fired up the religious people on here are, and how defensive the pedophile supporters can be. The fact is, you don’t know what happened. You probably never will. Free will, good and evil, faith, loss of faith, why so defensive. Christianity teaches that humans have free will, and that we create our own miracles. If god intervened in everything, don’t you think he’d get bored and frustrated and just destroy us and start over? Didn’t anyone see Bruce Almighty? Very appropriate and an accurate representation of God’s activity in our lives. We make our own decisions, and they made the decision to leave their children unattended for a prolonged period of time. I agree that they do need to face charges for neglect and child endangerment. Anyone that doesn’t know fancy celebrities and powerful people would have been prosecuted immediately. Regardless of their involvement in Madeline’s abduction/murder, they are her parents and the people held solely responsible for her safety and wellfare. They allowed her to be a victim, either by someone they know, or by their own doing. She is a cute kid, but cute only works for so long. Furthermore, pedophelia or child molestation (just so I don’t start a whole new debate on what is the correct label for someone who has inappropriate thoughts and actions with children) regardless of how often it occurs, is not normal. It is a sickness, that is more prevalent than it is recognized. Yes it is often a family member, but more and more often in this world that is just out of control, there are more random acts of violence and inappropriate behavior. Ultimately, there is no way that we are ever going to know what happened to Madeline, even if they find her alive or find her body. Any evidence collected at this point is fruitless, and most previous evidence collected had been compromised. Look at the Ramseys here in the USA. It is the common belief that they murdered their daughter. There were suspicious circumstances surrounding her dissappearance, and untimely death. The Ramseys repeatedly denied any involvement in their daughter’s death, but who would actually know. Mrs Ramsey passed recently, and all the tabloids reported that on her death bed she admitted to murdering her daughter. It’s bull, but people eat it up. No one actually knows except the perpetrator. Unfortunately here we are 10+ yrs later, and still no further than we were at the time. This instance is very similar. Botched police work, compromised evidence, the main differences are that she was reported kidnapped, then found dead hours later in her own home, and that at the time, DNA evidence has found no matches to date. A man admitted to murdering her, but later was exhonerated when his DNA did not match any of the several samples taken from her. We will never know, and unfortunately for Madeline, she is the victim to her parent’s negligence, whether 1st hand, or simply by leaving their children unattended. The most unfortunate part is that her twin sisters will have to live with the shame of their parents assumed guilt.

I THINK HER PARENTS HAVE KILLED HER
November 19th, 2007 at 12:40 am
My question is this…why is it, that all of the “so called” witnesses and “sightings” are just now coming forth? The supposed new sighting of the girlfriend was, I believe it said, in May…so why is it just NOW being investigated…it seems that everytime the focus, DNA, and otherwise seems to narrow in on the parents, others jump forward with sightings and clothes by the wayside in bags, etc. to divert the attention. It all goes back to sniffer dogs with no agenda and DNA which saves people from death in the electric chair, or either incriminates them. Now the parents have “declined” lie detector tests!!!!!!!!!! Is this the plan all along, say you will have it, then you won’t?

Point 1: Do religious people think that grammar and punctuation are the tools of the devil, or what?
Point 2: I don’t know why everyone is so down on Kate McCann. It’s Gerry that looks like the psychopath.
Point 3: Anti_idiot says:
Paedophilia is an attraction to prepubescents, that isn’t a crime. It’s molestation which is an offence. Calling all child molesters paedophiles is like referring to any man attracted to women as a rapist.
Um, I think what you probably meant was: “Calling all paedophiles child molesters…”, not the other way around, but let’s examine this. Can we really compare paedophiles to heterosexual men? 90-ish percent of males are attracted to females. Unlike paedophiles, acting on that attraction certainly does not have to involve committing a crime; it’s not like rape is the only way for an adult male to show attraction to an adult female. Dating and marriage are two examples. Acting on an attraction to children, however, always involves a crime.

i think the mum killed her and her dad knows about it … i think this because she has shown no emotion at all .. and the dad has only a little .

I notice all the friends of the family are coming out of the woodwork now. ‘What wonderful parents they are’ ‘Oh no, they could never do anything to harm their children’ HELLO, ‘Dr Shipman? Oh yes he was a wonderful GP’ ‘Rosemary West? Oh yes, a lovely neighbour’ ‘Mr Crippin? Such a wonderful lodger!’ ha ha ha ha

A sniffer dog was said to have picked up the scent of a body inside the apartment where Madeleine disappeared and it was believed that detectives were holding back a “key clue” that had led them to the conclusion.
Her parents, Kate and Gerry, have been kept in the dark about developments and are still demanding to see what has caused the shift in the investigation.
I wonder what this key clue they are basing Madeleine being dead on is and they are still saying the parents are NOT suspects?
August 16th, 2007 at 11:07 pm
SAR and cadaver dogs and drug sniffers are very very real and very reliable, there are also a few who can sniff out unknown tumours.
We actually don’t know what the police know, and they have actually said again today that the parents are not suspects.
But a lot of child abuse victims are attacked by their parents, children are killed by their parents, sometimes very accidentally , sometimes with malicious intent
August 16th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
Oh get real. None of those things about dogs scenting dead bodies and blood on the walls means anything. Read some reputable newspapers and you’d know that. The police are clutching at straws. Parents always come under suspicion when these things happen and there are no leads, it’s a last ditch resort for investigators to save face. God created good AND evil, there couldn’t be good without evil. Unfortunately some people choose the latter, and the rest of us have to live with it.
August 16th, 2007 at 5:13 pm
I am confused by the Mccanns statements. First they would not leave Portugal with out Madeleine. Kate tells us they would not be bullied to go home.
NOW, when the police have changed their tune as far as keeping the Mccanns informed, and emails, cell phone records and texts are checked by police, blood and other materials are being tested and a dog gets a hit on a dead body in their apartment…they are now saying they may go home, they have the twins to think about. I’m sorry, but yes i’m sure the twins miss Madeleine, but they are 2….they are on HOLIDAY, they are going to the day care, the zoo, the beach, they are visiting with family…..Are they going home because of the twins or because they are worried?
August 16th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
shirleecia ward …..First let me say i do believe in God. When a child is taken, killed, neglected or abused…I have to admit…I question why God would let that happen. He did not make the person behind the killing or abuse do that, they did it of their own free will. But we are taught that God has a reason for everything and a plan for everyone. God is a good person, not evil or cruel. Why is Maddie’s plan to be taken before she reaches her 4th b-day?!?!? Why are so many children killed (look how many at the hands of their own parents who love them) or neglected and abused (by moms and dads and other loved ones) I will say this i do not understand….The world is becomming a evil place and we as parents need to PROTECT our children. We need to keep Maddie and all the other lost, missing, abused, neglected and murdered children in our prayers and work to make this world a safe place for them to live.

just reading through the comments i sit here totally amazed at the range of attitudes of the people who make regular comments. To be honest I didn’t realise this was a debating site as such and just wanted to leave a msg of support for Mr and Mrs McCann. I’d like to just say one thing firstly to those in who believ in God. God is God all by Himself and doesnt need us to defend Him. All He asks of us as His people is to live a blameless life. Don’t worry about the unbelief of others but concentrate on praying firtsly for your own rightcheoness, then the saftey of Madline McCann and love and eace for her family. Then people of God take time to pray for unbelevers because the Bible says to pray for those who do not know any better so to speak.
I belive we all want to know this child is well first and for most regardless to our opinions of her parents and their behaviour.
I certainly will continue to pray for her because i am certain that God in His wisdom has a plan. However i do not know what it is but i do know God is able and I praise Him for that.
So for Mr and Mrs McCann be reassured that God knew MADELINE BEFORE SHE WAS FORMED IN THE WOMB AND HE LOVED HER EVEN THEN. Keep your faith and also your every effort to find your precious child. Remember to pray for your younger two children and allow God to do His will.
To every one else out there I want you to know that when the day comes for you to feel as though you cannot go on… the way the McCanns probably feel most days… just call on the name Jesus because He will receive you and put you on the right path and love you eternally. God is a parent and just like us he disiplines us because he loves us and wants to see us prosper but the Love He shows is the biggest thing above all.
God bless you all especially you little Madeline

I think it’s all a smokescreen to conceal the fact that the Mcanns have sold their child! And some of you agree, but are too worried about looking like a bad person to come out and say it.
There’s something deeply disturbing about the Mcann’s whole attitude.

i think that madeline mcann will return safe all you people that said horrible things i think u should open your heart i am a mother of one and it would tear me apart if i lost my little girl my heart goes out to the mcanns family keep praying as am everynite god bless
June 9th, 2007 at 4:52 am
Throughout this sorry episode I can’t help but wonder how the parents of the thousands of other missing children all over the world must feel whilst the McCanns are riding high on their global media bandwagon. I recall the incident several years ago when a single mother was out dining with her boyfriend as her house burned down with her unattended children inside it. She was immediately charged for the crime. I wonder what makes the McCanns so special? How easy it is to maninulate the minds of the masses these days.
June 6th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
Just to disagree with a few of the points made above.
Firstly, while pedophilia may not be a crime, it’s pedophiles who create the market for child abusers who provide online images of abuse. In that sense they are involved and at least partially responsible for what happens to these children.
Secondly, when undercover police went online to draw out men looking for children to have sex with, they were hit on immediately and repeatedly. Police who dismantled the Wonderland child abuse ring found over 1000 children involved in this very organised abuse network. A number of pedophiles who were previously not acting on their disordered urges are now more likely to do so due the arrival of the internet.
Don’t kid yourself this is a small and static problem - even one child sex abuser is too many but there are quite clear many of them out there as evidenced by these and other undercover operations. And it’s pedophiles who are driving them.

I totally agree with Sals. People like Phil give Christians a bad name. Phil starts off ‘I’m a Christian’ and then goes on with the most unforgiving, judgemental comments I think I’ve ever read from a Christian. Where does ‘turn the other cheek’ and ‘he casts the first stone’ come into his beliefs?
Darren
June 4th, 2007 at 11:08 am
To Phil the Christian! Harsh words from a man who says he believes in God. You seem more intent on blaming the Mccanns for their ‘blunder’ and don’t add anyting positive at all. They admit they feel guilty for leaving their children and have not tried to cover anything up - infact they have addressed that in interviews. As a Christian how can you be so judgemental? Not once do you mention anything positive for example the positive effects of the power of prayer and the fact that so many people are praying around the world. I truly believe that prayer in abundance by so many people can bring about miricales. I’ve seen it happen - two people who were terminally ill cured after long periods of intense prayer and while working in a childrens orphanage I also witnessed truly amazing things happen after powerful prayer. Who are you to say that this little girl has already been murdered? I thought Christians were supposed to give out light to the world! God does answer prayers and I do believe he has his hand on this situation.

May 31st, 2007 at 12:18 am
Listen!
When you get old enough you will understand that you will do anything to get your children back, just think of the nightmare Mr & Mrs McCann are going through waking up each morning knowing it’s real. Spare a thought for what little Madeleine’s going through, frightened and just wanting to feel her parent’s arms around her.
Instead of moaning on about them using a free jet to try and get Madeleine’s face back onto television, why don’t you do something constructive?
May 25th, 2007 at 12:18 pm
have you seen the latest in the sun today. MADDIE LOOK ALIKE ALMOST ABDUCTED 6 MONTHS AGO , NEAR THE MCCANNS RESORT, THEY SAY SHE COULD BE A TWIN. its a real laugh and they reckon shes blonde. and the mcccans now have an offer of a private jet to go off around europe, WILL THEY BE LEAVING THE OTHER 2 IN THE CRECHE WHILST THEY GO
May 25th, 2007 at 10:04 am
Dogstar,
The hysterical reaction of the press is doing nothing but encourage the misguided thinking you mention. They give the impression that there is a paedophile wherever you look and they are all out to kidnap and rape your children. This is a delusion.
The fact remains that children are statistically no more likely to be abducted and abused that they have been for the last 30 years. To suggest anything else is simply not true.
None of this is going to change the current situation, but presenting the world as ‘becoming more dangerous every day’ because of a one off incident (and let’s remember that we do not yet know what happened) is not helpful, either to the McCanns or to other parents and children.
Most abuse happens within the home or with ‘trusted adults’ anyway, so keeping children locked up at home ‘to keep them away from the paedophiles’ is unlikely to be an effective tactic.
May 25th, 2007 at 9:33 am
Jane & Anti_Idiot: both make great points regarding the insufferable wave of paedophilia-hysteria this country and many others are now engulfed in. I use the term ‘engulfed’ to mean just that - like an unstoppable, irrational, unthinking force. The McCann case has merely highlighted a problem already endemic in our societies in the West.
The rise and rise of ‘advocacy’ organisations, many of whom no doubt intend well, has brought us to this unhappy place where parents everywhere are subjected to a never-ending litany of fear and terror of ‘organised networks of paedophiles’ supposedly masterminding global empires of kiddie porn and child exploitation. If some of these leading advocacy groups are to be properly understood there is a bottomless pit of depravity out there in the world, with hundreds and thousands of kids routinely enslaved to the porn industry… except that, to date, nobody has actually produced any substantial, verifiable evidence for any of these ever-more wild and fanciful claims.
I grow weary of hearing the same untested claims being made in the media about this ‘global network of paedophiles’… we are continually expected to take these claims at no more than face-value. Anyone would think these people say these things just to get themselves some air-time, or a front page or, god-forbid, maybe even a government handout…
May 25th, 2007 at 12:55 am
Shawn Hornbeck was alive after 4 years. His parents never gave up hope. I think they as much as sold there home, used all their savings… anything to keep his name alive… and that paid off when he was discovered not too far away and living an assumed identiity with a sex offender. That whole story inspired me to really think outside of the box… she could still be in the neighborhood or not too far away… living in someone’s apartment or summer home. If everyone could be curious about their neighbors and there comings and goings.. eventually if she is in hiding.. it will be revealed. I like others do believein prayer. I think that for a lot of kids who are never found.. they too could be living in similar circumstances.
May 25th, 2007 at 12:47 am
Why can’t the British police get involved. Someone mentioned how the Portugal police botched the case. They should have dogs there now trained to sniff scents before its too late. I am sure there were forensics left there at the scene that were overlooked. I am frustrated because I want her to be found yet, time keeps slipping away and some things I feel should have taken place, like they noted in the “botched investigation” article have not been addressed. It may sound silly but I’ve seen shows on this.. psychic detective where psychics are imployed to help solve a case. At this point, it wouldn’t hurt considering it.
This case has gone worldwide. We know of it in the US and it was even on a local talk show, hosted by a local lawyer, last night.
I too had a dream about Maddy, that she was still alive. It was sort of a ‘Elizabeth Smart’ situation where she came back but she was 10 yrs old. She seemed very quiet but eager to keep contact with the other kids that were in my dream.
I hope and pray she’s not a typical statistic of kidnapped kids. Maybe she will end up like Elizabeth Smart and finally come home after they find out she’s been living with some people for a while.
