Finding Madeleine McCann’s Body - “Vermoedelijke Vindplaats”
IS Madeleine McCann dead? A letter to a Dutch newspaper. And a map showing where her body can be found. It’s credible:
Police in Portugal are investigating an anonymous letter and a map claiming to show where missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann’s body is buried.
The letter, sent to Dutch paper De Telegraaf, identifies an area 15km (9.3 miles) from where Madeleine vanished.
It strongly resembles another letter sent to the same newspaper last year, accurately pinpointing where two missing Belgian girls were buried.
Ch Insp Olegario de Sousa said officers were “checking the information”.
Next to a cross and two question marks, the sender writes “vermoedelijke vindplaats Madeleine” - this is the place where Madeleine can probably be found.
A murder investigation. And still only one suspect.
One day on and “BURIED UNDER ROCKS,” says the Mirror’s front –page headline.
The paper notes how the handwriting on the letter is the same as that on the paper giving the whereabouts of Stacey Lemmens and her sister Nathalie Mahy who went missing in Belgium last year.
As the Sun reports, the note says Madeleine is buried “north of the road under branches and rocks, around six to seven metres off the road” in an spot near Odiaxere, close to the Algarve resort from where the girl went missing 42 days ago.
The Mail says the author of this letter and, most likely, the one concerning the Belgian sisters, is unknown to police.
A certain Abdullah Ait-Oud, a convicted paedophile, has been charged with their murders. He denies any involvement. Although police believe he acted with an accomplice who has not been traced.
“MADELEINE IS BURIED HERE,” says the Express on its front page. Portuguese police are searching the area…
Mr McCann says:
“We were extremely disappointed in the publication of the anonymous letter in The Telegraaf claiming to know where Madeleine is buried.”Although all information will be taken seriously, we were very upset that the credibility of this letter had not been examined and, more importantly, published before the Portuguese police had an opportunity to investigate the claim, and search the area if appropriate without massive media attention.
“We feel strongly that this was an irresponsible piece of journalism and, even if it were true, is insensitive and cruel.
“One can imagine how upsetting it is for Kate and I to hear of such claims through the media and if every piece of information was published like this there would be nothing else in the newspapers.”

Where did the report come from saying that an unidentified DN A sample had been found in the apartment and Portugal were to refer it to The British to check the large data base. Was it an official Portuguese Laboratory statement?

I am not certain either way. I would lean more to an intruder, because of the fact that the Mccanns have been under a microscope of media since day one. It would be near impossible for them to do this without leaving a trail and no suspicions by friends and relatives. Granted, it could be done, but I honestly do not think they did this.
On the other hand, why not take all 3 children? Maybe the intruder would be too easy to catch? I don’t know. It is very sad and I am still praying for her safe return and pray her parents never leave their children unattended again.
Lastly, what about the theory that the door was unlocked. Madeleine awoke, scared, no friends staying over as the previous night and got up and walked outside. Maybe she fell?
I remember reading somewhere about part of a street that was dug up and paved over that morning. Did they dig that part of the street up to see if this theory could be true? Just a thought.
p.s. - when will the DNA results be in? Let me guess, another year?

It’s funny how portuguese police believe every history about “maps” and madeleine death (all this things against the Mccans) but just IGNORE all possible sighting of Madeleine.
It’s funny how people are prolific when condemn the Mccans as they’re “monsters” that leave their children alone (even when believe they did not kill her), but NEVER condemn the monster pedophile who may have kidnapped the girl

Never would I leave my kids unattended. NOT even if I were in the backyard, frontyard, etc! What the hell is wrong with people? My kids are much older, and are still not allowed out of the yard when playing outside. Parents are responsible for what happens to their children. I am sick to find out that everyone there left there kids in their rooms unattended. Any child under the age of 12 should NEVER be left alone. EVER!!! Some people should NOT be parents - period!
It only takes a second. Even when we are at a store shopping, my kids know that they cannot stay in the car while mom goes in. They must stay by my side at all times. It only takes a second for a child to be snatched. What about the little girl Cedrika Provencher? She has still not been found since she was out playing and helping a stranger find his lost dog. Where were her parents? She is 9 years old and at a park by herself? Should never have happened. You think your children are safe because they are 8, 9, 10, 11 - but they are not. Look at the 11 year old boy that was kidnapped after he got off the school bus and walking to his home? Yes, 11 years old. It only takes a second and they can be gone. It can happen to anyone.

12 - Michelle..do you honestly believe leaving your children asleep in your house while your in your back garden is the same as leaving them alone in a foreign country in an unlocked room? and lets face it, it was a little more than a few yards away…i still dont see any real evidence that there was an abductor..i think this has just been said because they are giving up and its an easy way out…in short..The McCanns should have to fully explain their actions to the proper authorities..and please dont say a lot of people do it and the only difference here is the

I couldn’t possibly agree more with everything you say, star! That is why I said that the parents must be held accountable for their decisions and actions, which resulted in Madeleine’s disappearance. Apart from legal considerations, it is absolutely imperative that what they did should and shall never, ever, be construed as “normal”, “acceptable” or simply a “human mistake”.
In the meantime, let us all pray that little Madeleine will be found alive and well. I’m not that optimistic about such a happy ending, but I nonetheless wish with all my heart for it to happen.

Ary….I think the main reason so many people are upset over Madeleine’s disappearance is her parents didnt seem to have a problem leaving 3 small children alone whilst they were out having a good time night after night.
Even after saying someone had paid special attention to her(dont know if this is accurate) I know we are not even getting half the info the police have, and who knows what is fact and what is fiction at this time. I also know the police cant release all info because it could hurt the investigation. But i believe we all want answers as to what happen to this lil girl.
The Mccanns seem to be talking about going home, for the twins sake?
I believe we may here some info this week in reference to the new investigation.

Sorry to butt in again, but I just remembered that spokepersons from the laboratory conducting the DNA testing of the samples coming from the McCann’s appartment in Praia da Luz said that the tests were far from being over, and that they did not have the foggiest clue as to how and why newspapers spread the news to the effect that the blood samples currently analyzed did not belong to Madeleine.
But since the Portuguese police shrouds all of its investigations in a veil of secrecy (which is not, by and in itself, necessarily a bad thing), it should therefore comes as no surprise that medias are rife with false or erroneous reports, unsubstianted rumors and innuendos.

If I may step in…
I am a criminologist and just would like to clear some issues that seem to me a bit clouded.
First and foremost, sexual predators in general and pedophiles in particular are NOT mentally ill. They are sociopathic sexual sadists in most cases. Sociopathy is a personality disorder, NOT a mental disease by any stretch of the imagination. Sociopaths simply have NO conscience, hence they are utterly unable to feel compassion, empathy, guilt or remorse. Period. They are self-centered, hedonistic and narcissistic. In other words, nothing matters to them except their own desires, needs, urges and self-gratification. Consequently, human beings, for them, serve essentially three purposes : they merely exist to be abused, manipulated, or ignored (at best) or neutralized (disposed of) at the worst.
Second, it is far from uncommon for police and/or media to receive hoax letters, most especially so in high-profiled cases like this one. Even so far back as in 1888, at the height of the Whitechapel terror caused by the depredations of Jack the Ripper, police and newspapers alike were deluged with hundreds of hoax letters per week. Closer to us, in the 60’s, the infamous Zodiac taunted the police for quite a few years with numerous letters. So nothing new under the sun here either.
Third, the investigation about Madeleine McCann’s disappearance has been jeopardized from its very onset. The fact that the Portuguese police have failed to secure the [crime] scene as soon as they got there (instead of about 12 hours later), allowing it therefore to be contaminated beyond reprieve, then the fact that they wasted another way too precious 12 hours before alerting the Port Authorities and so forth, all this contributed to almost irretrievably sabotage the inquiry. Let’s not forget that in ALL criminal cases, the FIRST 72 hours are CRUCIAL. So here, the Portuguese police have wasted the first 24 hours out of the 72 after which a case goes colder and colder.
Fourth, the truth is that we still do not know exactly what happened this fateful night, except that, of course, Madeleine McCann vanished. So far, it is the only thing that can be ascertained.
Finally, I hereby totally agree that the McCanns should be held fully responsible and accountable for gross neglect and reckless endangerment of children under the age of 4. It is not a question of being unduly harsh on the parents or unsensitive to their plight, no. It is a matter of justice, of or law, if you so prefer. For the fact remains : IF the McCanns would NOT have acted the way they did, it is more than highly probable that little Madeleine would today be safe and sound and that none of this truly horrifying story would have occured, clear and simple.
I wish to apologize for any mistakes I might have made while writing, for I am from Montréal, Québec, Canada, and French is my mother’s tongue, not English, which I learned only in my early twenties.

Abdullah Ait-Oud , although previous arrests had never been accused of taking life?
With both Belgium girls and only one rape why is it assumed there were two people? Reports suggest that is believed.
Unknown if the person responsible in B. to be part of a ring or a loner? If sometimes people are part of a ring act alone and sometimes the person acts with others the others may not be aware of what one has done alone? Just a guess.
There have been a number of hoax so it is hard to know if the person who wrote the hoax letter was making a personal claim or misleading for self or group activity. At least that is the way it comes across without knowing more. Also, I can’t remember the date of the hoax letter but curious if there was any reason for the timing. What presumed reason for person who wrote and the timing in the first letter? There must be specultion about the first letter. Even with hoax it sounds like someone knew the area when second letter was written.
Somewhere I read about people who might have felt they suffered for not being there in a similar way, although most of the discrimmination postings I have read have sounded like British people.
Where there are rocks anywhere are there also braches?
I can see how the McCanns, with no body, refuse to accept any reasoning that the letter was anything other than a hoax. Honestly, I have experienced some bad limbo and shock at the capabilities of people but I can’t begin to imagine what they have been going through on that kind of level.. No, I would not be able to accept death without a body either.
With little understanding, due to Portugal reporting, how exactly the apartment was broken into. The Portugal reporting claims there was no forced entry. I believe the parents but limited to only early reporting what they thought about the entry, unclear really. Also, if true, the reporting about the staff offering moniter about that time brings more people aware in other ways. It is hard to rule out, without knowing more, if there are nationality sightings. Curious. It seems to me the entry info is important.

Dad McCann tells us they did nothing wrong, it’s like leaving them while eating in the garden!! What?!?!? Is he serious? And Mom McCann takes the twins to day care to go stare at the ocean? The parents set up a paypal account and are asking for money to support them? The friends are also odd and i was glad to see the police notice the inconsistencies and say all 9 are being treated as suspects. The whole story is odd. I hate to think the parents are involved, but from what i have read in the news…they look odd

I am not only upset but ashamed that something like this would happen at Praia da Luz. I was born in Lagos and just visited this February. I now live in the USA the last 32 years. That area is the best kept secret and this never happens and should never happen again. Make sure this girl is unharmed and returned to her family, adopt an “Amber Alert System”, Get who ever is responsible, find a deserted island and start dumping these animals on it. Keep them alive by feeding them periodically. Every animal in the world should know that it will be a life sentence on that island with other animals like themselves.
