Madeleine McCann, Malta Fever And Seeing Is Believing
MADELEINE McCann has been seen.
“MADELEINE IS SPOTTED 5 TIMES IN MALTA,” says the Express’s front-page headline.
It’s a sighting confirmed by the Star (“MADDIE’S SPOTTED 5 TIMES IN MALTA”), and heralded by the front pages of the Sun (“5 ‘MADDIE’ SIGHTINGS IN MALTA”) and the Mirror (“MADELEINE ‘SPOTTED 5 TIMES’ IN MALTA”).
Look And See
The only differences between the papers are grammatical. While the Express reports the sightings as a statement of fact and the Sun continues to use its pet name for the missing girl, the Mirror is more circumspect.
It knows that any news of Madeleine is of interest to its readers but recognises that it is all far from being established truth. The Mirror also knows that it was one its journalists who told the Portuguese police that she found Robert Murat, suspect number one, creepy.
Said Lori Campbell of the Sunday Mirror: “When he was talking to me he was vague about his background.”
Campbell did the right thing in going to the police. But in telling the world she put herself in the story and exposed Murat. He and not the search for Madeleine became news.
The Night Jar
Over in Malta, a series of witnesses claim to have seen Madeleine in the company of two adults. A police source on the island tells us of a “full-scale inquiry us taking place”. The Sun calls it a “HUGE SEARCH”.
All the island’s policeman have been equipped with posters of Madeleine. Posters have been stuck to buildings. Questions are being asked of locals and tourists.
The Sun hears from Ray Roberts, a British tourist. It is late at night. He sees a girl with an Arabic-looking man in his 40s and a younger women. The child appears to be wearing a black wig. She trips. “Get up, little girl,” says the man in broken English. “They were strange,” says Roberts, “it just jarred.”
This was not the first sighting. That was back last weekend, when another British couple were certain they had seen the blonde child in the island’s capital Valletta. They agreed to make a sworn statement to a magistrate, thus allowing an official investigation.
The Mail says the story made it to front page of a Maltese newspaper, triggering another four people to call the police and say they had seen Madeleine.
Seeing Things
So was it her? As the Mail notes, sighting of the girl have been made in Spain, Morocco and even Wales. The Star talks of “hundreds of reports of sightings”.
But are any of them her? All of them? Only last week, we were reading that Madeleine’s body was located a few miles from Praia da Luz, the resort from where she had gone missing. A Spanish journalist was telling us how he knew who had taken her. Robert Murat was talking on the phone late at night. He was using a rented car and bouncing on bouncy castles. Sergey Malinka was a Russian geek.
But for all the talk and the sightings and the finger pointing, there has been no confirmed report of Madeleine. There remains only one suspect.
Everyone wants Madeleine found. Some will want to find her themselves, to claim the reward and achieve no little fame. Some may even fabricate sightings to keep Madeleine’s name in the news. They are on the parents’ side, doing their bit.
But knowing all this serves no purpose. It will not help to solve the crime. In reading of such things, any criminal able to smuggle a child from Portugal to Malta would have moved the girl or worse.
In the mystery of Madeleine McCann, the story has become the news…

I want to know if Murats girlfriend, Michaela, has witnesses that will swear she was at the Jehova Witness meeting when Maddy went missing.

Here in the US, a girl went missing. She was 16 years old. The man who took her abducted her right out of her bedroom, he had been at the family’s home to do some repair work. She was missing for quite a while, 6 months maybe. Everyone was looking for her, there were signs everywhere yet he was taking her out in public and no-one noticed her. He was a religious zealout and he had her dressed in a long robe with a scarf around her hair. She was a strikingly beautiful girl, she would have been noticable no matter what she was wearing, yet no-one recognized her. She could have spoken to someone at any time when she was out in public, she went to restaurants etc…and she didn’t. It’s called Stockholm syndrome.
There was another case, a boy here in Saint Louis. He was abducted when he was young, maybe 9 or 10 can’t remember. Sean Ornsby. He went to dances, played outside with friends, had access to a computer etc… and never told anyone. He was withing 30 miles of the place he had disappeared. He went on to the computer, it was a website dedicated to him, much like Madeleine’s and asked if “anyone was still looking for Sean.” No-one thought he was alive anymore and they found him. He too could have told someone at any time.

DONT LET HER GET OUT OV YURE SIIGHT

even if u have a urgent meeting 2 go 2 or whatever, sorry but a missing child is ALOT more important than a meeting and think, if the girl u pick up is madeleine then the people in the meeting will do more than thank u and u wil get a £2.5m reward.. so keep looking with eyes peeled
July 27th, 2007 at 1:53 pm
For god’s sake if people think they see madeleine they should try and get close e.g sit near the child or walk near it
first thing u should look for is the black pupil riding into the rest of her eye go to the official website foor more information
if the child has that then shout her name.
if she turns round for god’s sake call the police
u can either try and keep it discreet or confront the adults
but keep them in sight, if madeleine is there then u shouldnt let her go again. grab her hand maybe and don’t let go until police arrive, pick her up if you have to.. but DONT LET HER GO

I personally have not seen the movie or the trailer yet …but i dont see why as a mother I would be upset by it. Every where I go including my local building society there are posters up and I support that. I suppose it depends on how you have explained the situation to you children. My eldest child who is 8 knows that Madeleine was taken however my youngest who has just turned 5 has simply been told that she is lost. If anything, i believe that through the questions my child has asked it has made her more aware of the stranger danger !

Ingram, What do you think about the fact that some mothers are upset about Madelein being shown before the Shrek 3 movie in cinemas?
July 5th, 2007 at 4:06 pm
Yes , she has been very aware of what has happened and of course the posters are up every where we go , i specifically told my children to look out for her I think everyone should be looking even the littleones.
July 5th, 2007 at 7:25 am
That is good to know that they are still actively looking for her. Thanks Ingram. Did your daughter understand what it was about?

Hi All I am half maltese , living in england. My children were in malta with thier grandmother when the majority of the sightings started, they were in Valletta and on a boat to Gozo etc…. My eldest child aged 8 has very blonde hair and blue eyes. She is very small for her age (116 cms). I would like to say that when trying to leave the country on the 23rd …..police stopped her took a good look at her and her passport. My mother had to show that she had adult teeth to prove her age. I was please to see that they were taking the sightings very seriously.

There would be no debate if everyone agreed, which is what this forum is meant to do: encourage debate. Some of the responses makes your stomach turn but Molly is right in having the freedom to ask uncomfortable questions. The majority on this sight - foulmouthed, angry and shocked - are gutted about what happened to Madelein. That is the common demonimator - everyone is here because a little girl went missing. Reactions all differ and rightly so.
It is fortunate though that we are not on the receiving end of all this criticism and have the luxury to voice an opinion. I would not survive such an ordeal - my fault or not.

Cazz2 … where exactly does it say that these forums are for McCann supporters only?
This is a SATIRE forum, and it’s intention is to encourage people to look at stories from different angles so as to encourage further debate. If only people who agree with each other are allowed to post then the debating becomes just a wee bit …. well…. non-existent.
I’m a Madeleine supporter by the way - and as far as I am concerned that means asking questions out loud (both online and in my daily life). Whether those questions make the McCanns uncomfortable is not my concern or interest, and it shouldn’t be anyone else’s who is interested in finding out the truth about what happened to this little girl.
If this were my child and I was innocent of any wrongdoing then I would be GLAD that people were asking me and others awkward questions and looking at different theories - after all I would have nothing to hide and perhaps, just perhaps, some of the questions asked might have an answer that would lead me to my child…. and yes I do speak as a parent.

In reply to a previous question, the fund was set up because so many donations were flooding in. The Mccanns said they wanted donations handled in a proper and proffessional manner.
And i have not once heard either of the McCanns ASK for people to donate

I understand about freedom of speech and dont mind reading differing opinions, but why is there so much foul language? Is it really needed to get the point across? Its not exactly spontaneous, its thought and planned before its written.
I would also be interested to see if the anti Mccann crew have children.

Thing is, I’ll bet if you met these guys in person they would be real meek. That’s usually the way with bullies.
June 28th, 2007 at 12:57 am
I just think it’s wrong that people who are not McCann supporters are allowed on these forums. These forums exist to support the McCanns and little Maddie, not for any other reason. I think comments should not be allowed from anybody who is not one hundred percent behind Gerry and Kate.
Hal and WTF, you would be the first to go, and then all of the people left on here would be the McCann supporters, and there wouldn’t be all the hassle.
June 27th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
Yes I’m back - WTF, Hal and all other McCann critics.
I really loved WTF line “Just fuck off, you’re a bigger pain in the ass than a hundred Hals.” I showed a couple of people that actually - and they laughed. Yes you have a right to say whatever you want - so what ?
It showed you were really angry that you wanted me to go away - and I laugh at you because of that. Because you CANNOT get rid of me and any other McCann supporters.
Loving you guys dearly, LOOKing forward to the day Madeleine makes it home safely soon.

Cazz - who you trying to kid, we all know you’ll just have to have another peek on here, just to see how people, especially Hal, have reacted to your last post.
The reason Hal can say what he wants on here is because we live in a democracy which enshrines free speech as a right of every citizen. Furthermore the internet is the embodiment of that right to free speech, and people can and do say whatever the fuck they want - on every forum, in every chatroom all around the world.
You have the goddamn nerve to ask Anorak why he allows Hal’s comments to be registered at all!!! WTF!!! You little fucking Hitler. You want to be able to come on here and express your opinion in a free and unfettered way, yet you would deny somebody else the right to do the same.
I do not agree with everything that Hal says, but he has the right to say what he feels. If you don’t like it then just fuck off and find a forum where everybody else will sweetly agree with you. Tell you what though, you won’t fucking find one.
Just fuck off, you’re a bigger pain in the ass than a hundred Hals.
Ditto buddy boy ….

Hal, I must say you seem a sad little puppy. Can’t stand it but can’t stay away. At least you posted some worthwile news in your last post. Your previous pom-pom rants are a bit sad really. Stop reading about the Mcanns. Easy as pie don’t you think?
June 26th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
Joanne, this PR Machine is probably the only way that the girl will be found. Remember Jimmy Ryce? The parents made a descision to include the media and public to help find their 9 year old son who went missing between the school bus and home.
Three months later his body was found thanks to a woman who regocnised his name from all the press coverage. Pray that you will never be in a situation to test out the generosity of the public and get into a partnership with the media beast.
You are delusional if you think the parents are getting a kick out of this mess. I will be very suprised if you are a parent. Hal gave some (wanted) feedback on the case. And yes Hal “Please feel free to post more news stories on the McCanns”.
I can’t decide if it is ignorance on your part of what the family is facing or resentment that you don’t have the opportunity to have people donate to your cause. Carefull what you wish for.
June 26th, 2007 at 11:50 am
Very kind of you Hal to assist the McCann family in this way, by spreading the news reports for them. The posted links to all these news sites are just what the McCanns are looking for you. I’m sure they are grateful for your assistance.
Please feel free to post more news stories on the McCanns. I thought you were against the McCanns PR machine, but I must have misunderstood.
