Adoption Racket, Beds, Cuttings And No Madeleine McCann
“MADELEINE: Secret child’s bed at couple’s home. So says the Express’s front page.
This sounds interesting. We read on and learn: “Police sources in Portugal said a small cot was found in the garage of convicted child abuser Danilo Chemello and his girlfriend Aurora Pereira Vaz.”
Chemello (first introduced by the press as Daniel Chemello) and Vaz are helping police with their enquiries.
As reported on Anorak, Chemello is wanted by French police on an international warrant. He is accused (Sun)/convicted (Express) of trying to blackmail a judge. The Express says he blackmailed her for £700,000. The Sun says he’s an Italian construction millionaire who, allegedly, extorted £60,000.
These are the facts.
Vaz is allegedly involved in illegal adoptions, although now the Express says she is known for “masterminding an illegal adoption racket”.
They sound like villains. And they wanted, allegedly, to con the McCanns into handing over the £2.5 million rewards offered for information on Madeleine McCann.
Both have served jail time for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and firearms offence. An Italian “police source” tells us: “Vaz is completely without scruples and a very hard and determined woman.”
The Sun says “hundreds” of press cuttings about missing Madeleine McCann were found in the couple’s home.
Are these macabre souvenirs of a heinous crime? Evidence of their boning up on the facts to make their scam look more believable? A sign of how much they care?
Much remains to be seen. And speculated upon…

I have always said that this is a hoax, the McCanns have never cried, they are always smart and in control,they go jogging, seeing the pope and going to other countries, if my daughter was missing, I would be struggling to speak and out of my mind with worry,Remember Sarah Payne’s mother she was heartbroken she was sobbing on her interviews on televison, I have not seen this from the McCanns,
Mr McCann set up a fund, why? he lost his wallet and strangely has now been returned to his home address, minus the money,odd; If this is a true abduction and I could ask The McCanns some questions I would ask this;
Why did you both leave 3 babies home alone in a strange apartment and country,
Why didn’t you take them with you in their pushchairs they would of been asleep,
The last check was at 9pm and you never checked again till 10pm, Why.
Who decided to leave them alone Mr. M or Mrs. M and Why
Why didn’t you stay at the apartment and have room service/takeaway
Why did you say an T.V. that other parents would have done the same,leaving cildren alone at night, I think not
Why did you say it was a safe resort,we all know no where is safe in this evil world we live in, it just proves you are wrong
And last of all I would ask them to stop spending all the money that the public have given and donate it all to charity,and go back to your home go to work,if any thing happens the Police will inform you.
You must stop thinking you are a Celebrity,get rid of all the spin doctors they cost a lot of money the public didn’t donate money for that reason, it was supposed to be a reward for finding the one person who this is about little MADELEINE who was Neglected by you,

There is an interesting discussion underway, The Hoax Theory…Madeleine McCann, which can be found at http://forums.mirror.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1727
(I suggest starting at page 25) and which is kicking around a few suppositions and theories.
It can be a bit irreverent at times, but it tries to slyly look at what might move a mob of medicos to seemingly embrace omerta (the code of silence).
As more people question the Gospel according to Gerry, more and more holes in the story appear; all loosely covered with scabs and all crying out to be picked.
The Europeans and Australians will no doubt have a wonderful time lifting up those scabs and exposing the suppurating sores to the light of day.
And, as Mr. McCann is elevated higher and higher on his own petard by the approbation of his peers, how much picking do you think the BBC will do while he is being fondled and feted at the Edinburgh TV Festival on August 24?
Another newspaper today refered to the father as a neurosurgeon and publicist. Will the Simpsons be adding a new character, Miss Madeleine?
From the BBC
The father of the missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann is to address TV executives about the media’s role in the hunt for his daughter.
Gerry McCann will appear at the UK’s leading media industry event, the Edinburgh International Television Festival , in August.
TV has played a key role in the search for Madeleine, who disappeared in Portugal two months ago.
Mr McCann joins a festival line-up that ranges from Jeremy Paxman to Sir Jimmy Savile and Jade Goody.
Festival advisory chairman and BBC Newsnight editor Peter Barron said the McCanns’ campaign to find their daughter had been “a new and moving phenomenon in 2007″.
“We are very pleased to welcome Gerry McCann to Edinburgh to share his thoughts on how harnessing the power of the modern media can be used to help others in similar situations,” he said (Mr. McCann’s corporation will seemingly be charging the parents of other missing children for media relations work to raise awareness).

I need to respond to this by anonymous:
“Apart from her eye anomoly the parents haven’t described their daughter at all, which is more than a little strange.”
This is key, imo. I not only noticed the very same thing but when the McCanns did speak about her, they appeared to struggle, even tighten up. It was like they were trying to to describe a stranger but had to think up positive adjectives first. Honestly? I got the the distinct impression they were almost agitated. Odd but very disturbing.

Thanks for the links, Hal. I’m just now catching up with Mike Hitchens blog.
He and several of his commenters have put many of my feelings to words…
Let me just say, I’ve read enough now to get a better picture of the McCanns and will be keeping more up to date. If even some of the allegations I’ve read are true, those two should be brought to the mat. Seems like there are so critical fragments missing but I suspect Gerry, Kate and pals are keeping them all to themselves. I’m going on blind faith the Portugal police are unimpressed with the infamous Fund and the mass support….time will tell. It’s still early, imo.

Its very sad, probably enjoyed the status of parenthood, but obviously not the nitty gritty or the hugs
July 3rd, 2007 at 5:49 pm
Anon- probably because they don’t “know” her. Even on holiday they only seemed to spend two hours a day with her. Her nanny, or the Kid’s Club staff probably knew her better.
So sad.

Wow. Was just forwarded this link. I’ve been bothered by certain inconsistencies and abnormal behavior by the McCanns from almost the beginning. I see I’m not alone. Appreciate that article, thanks. A lot to think about. I wonder if arrogant Gerry and Kate have read it, hope so!
It has been brought to the attention of the keyboard chimps. It is, apparently, being discussed on many newspaper forums; however, there are many complaints that the the article and threads are being deleted.
There is a discussion here at the mirror, forums.mirror.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1903
and an Australian writer, Mike Hitchen, will likely be unpeeling it tomorrow (or today, I’m in Canada and the time zones drive me nuts).
Mike really thinks that the UK newspapers have done a a great disservice to their readers in not writing about the inconsistencies.
(Please note how the Portuguese article above states that Murat was fingered by the McCann group.)
Here’s the link to Mike’s blog. His writing will bring a lump to your throat. A courageous and caring wordsmith.

Madeleine Case
Pact of Silence
Madeleine’s parents and the friends with whom they spent their holidays in PDL are suspects in the inquiry. There are contradictory versions about the night of the kidnapping, and an assumed pact of silence in the group
The beginning of June is flowing in a strange way in the Algarve. A chilly wind and overhead clouds help to fill the auditorium of Lagos, where a solidarity concert is being held for the missing english girl. It’s been a month since Madeleine McCann vanished without a trace.
A few kilometres from Lagos, in the Ocean Club resort at Praia da Luz, the faint illumination further densifies the climate. At the reception, which leads to the Tapas restaurant, there is nobody. Getting inside is easy.
A portuguese waiter, but with a british ‘behaviour’, strikes the first blow on the journalist’s plan: “We only serve dinner to the club’s clients”. “What about a drink?”. He says yes.
It’s 9.30 p.m. If we were to believe the several members of the McCann’s holiday group, and after several mismatching versions, at this time Madeleine was being carried out of her apartment by a dark-haired man, who would be around 35 years old.
From the same table where the group of nine had dinner on that evening, one tries, in vain, to observe the apartment’s front – a ground floor apartment that faces the restaurant. A linoleum screen on the side of Tapas and the corridor of bushes that follows the limits of the apartment’s back yards prevents any vigilance to that level.
The image of Madeleine – big blue, questioning eyes and an innocent smile, fixed on the photographic films – is always present. It doesn’t leave the conversations of whom passes by. One remembers the words that the mother, Kate Healy, is supposed to have said to a friend (and that the husband, Gerry McCann, did not know): “I had a bad premonition about my children, when I found out the Ocean Club had no baby listening service”.
The choice of Algarve as a holiday destination would come to change their lives. Everything was arranged with three other couples, with whom they used to travel. Some of them had recently been to Greece, with their children, and the Mark Warner agency, the same that prepared their trip to the Algarve, had done their itinerary for the islands. According to their reports, the hotel where they stayed had a baby listening service – a service that is assured by four or five members of staff who would control the children while the adults dined, by listening through doors and windows to confirm that everything inside was quiet.
At the Tapas bar, from bartenders to staff from the Kid Club, criticism is whispered: “We have a creche where they left their children for most part of the day, where they could be until 11.30 p.m. without spending another Euro. They could also have used our baby-sitters, who stay with the children in their rooms until 1 p.m. In this case, they would have to pay an extra fee, but these people looked like they could afford it”, an employee comments, concluding that “this was a very strange group, that never stayed with their children”.
The children’s routine
The story of Madeleine looks like a tangled ball of wool. In the last days of April, Kate and Gerry, both 39 and doctors, arrive with their friends in Praia da Luz. The weather is not very good, but the group makes the best of it. The children seem to exist outside of the adults’ world. In the morning, Kate would take Madeleine, almost 4, and the 2-year old twins, to the Kid Club. The other couples in the group did the same. While the little ones entertained themselves with collages and paintings, the group divides itself between tennis and jogging until lunchtime. In the creche, the girl’s picture is taken: “She was shy and had some difficulty in adapting to the group. She always stayed close to the english children she already knew”.
It is at lunchtime that the families socialize a bit. After a short nap, the children go back to the Kid Club, while the parents use the activities that the club offers. They only get to meet again in the late afternoon, when the children’s dinner is served. Before 8 p.m., Madeleine and her siblings, who seem to function like a clock, are already asleep. Half an hour later, the group of friends meets at Tapas. The staff remember that they only leave at midnight: “They were very lively and drank a bit too much. I didn’t even realize they had children, because I never saw them around”.
Mathew Oldfield, one of the elements of the group, is back in England. He reacts with surprise upon the contact of Sol, but he does not avoid the conversation: “We drank. We were on holidays. So what?”.
And thus the days followed one upon another, at the Ocean Club. The holiday week is almost over and the group’s spirit does not change. Nobody had noticed until then, how the children were kept at a distance.
The most reliable way to undrestand what happened on May 3, when Madeleine disappeared, is to analyze the various versions that emerged.
It would have been 10 p.m. when Kate decided to check the children at the apartment. This is the only moment in the story that gathers consensus. Madeleine had vanished from her bedroom and the twins were sleeping like nothing had happened. The mother was back at the restaurant in one leap. She was disoriented.
PJ called two hours later
In seconds, the resort is in turmoil. The group’s four men and the club’s employees check every corner. They seem to be oblivious of the essential: to call the authorities. GNR is the first to arrive at the scene, but the news only reach Policia Judiciaria (PJ) more than two hours later. The first explanations arise. Where were the parents when the child disappeared? Gerry explains that, inspired in the scheme that some of the friends had used on their holidays in Greece, the nine members of the group took turns in checking on the children with some regularity.
This is the beginning of a story that will change in many chapters. Gerry starts by saying that he first left the table to check on the children around 9.05 p.m. When he entered the apartment the children were fine, he just noticed that the door to their bedroom was partially open. He looked at the window, which was closed, just as the shutters, and relaxed.
Ten minutes later, his friend Jane Tanner, who went around the apartments, crossed ways with a dark-haired man who was walking in the opposite direction, carrying a child. She didn’t make any connections either.
A few minutes later, Mathew Oldfield enters the room, sees the McCann children fast asleep, and notices nothing out of the ordinary. It is at 10 p.m. that Maddie’s mother discovers her daughter has disappeared. The window was wide open and the shutters were up.
To GNR, who is in the area with sniffer dogs to search for the child, this is a highly unlikely scenario. One of the military assures: “This is an extremely silent area, where there are practically no passing cars. That shutter was very difficult to lift from the outside, and would have made a lot of noise. It would have been a lot easier to use the door, but there were no signs of a break-in”.
This was just one of the reasons why the group became suspicious in the eyes of the investigators. Russell O’Brien, Jane Tanner’s husband, is already back in England, but he knows he could be summoned back to Portugal for a deposition anytime. Over the phone with Sol, he tries to keep his british phlegm: “It is normal that we are suspects, and the DNA test is a consequence thereof. We were the closest people involved”.
The conversation always comes back to the same issue: the night of the disappearance. The account of that last dinner has disparate versions among the group’s members. Some swear that someone left the table every half hour to check on the kids; other reduce that time to half of it. Some say control is made window by window; others say the adults entered each other’s apartments.
One of the employees that was on duty that evening does not remember a lot of movement: “I only remember a tall, grey-haired man getting up once from the table”. It was Russell, who, two days earlier, also had attended dinner.
An aerobic instructor from the resort entertains the dinner guests at Tapas with a ‘Quiz’. At 9.30 p.m. the game ends, and Gerry invites her to their table, where she stays for half an hour. During that time, as she later confided to friends, nobody left the table, but one of the chairs was vacant. Najova Chekaya refuses to talk to Sol. And Russell, when the questions start to surround him, loses his sympathy: “I have nothing further to tell you. I am not going to dishonor the compromise I assumed with Kate and Gerry. They want to control all infornation that is disclosed”.
Gerry changes his version several times, but he maintains that the door to his children’s room was open. Mat revokes his first statement: when he entered Madeleine’s room, the door was open and there was more light, as if the shutters had been raised. Here starts to develop the theory that there was already someone inside the apartment. Which reinforces Jane Tanner’s version (that she saw a man carrying a child).
Only Jane saw the man carrying a child
But there is a witness whose deposition contradicts this theory. Jeremy Wilkins – a tv producer who had met Maddie’s father during their holidays and used to play tennis with him – was walking his eight months old son at that time. He met Gerry, who went out through the apartment’s back door after having checked on the children, and the two man exchanged a brief conversation. At that time, if one is to believe the first accounts, Jane would have left Tapas in the direction of the apartment’s main entrance, and would have crossed paths with both of them. “It was a very narrow road and I think it would have been almost impossible to walk by without me taking notice”, Jeremy says, pointing out the fact that he saw no man carrying a child, as Jane states.
But Jane continues to guarantee that, at the top of the street, she saw a man with a child in his arms.
Although the area is scarcely lit, and the situation did not make her suspicious at the time, she describes the beige trousers, the dark thick jacket and the black classic-style shoes in a detailed way. Once again, Jeremy disagrees: “If that happened, I would have likely seen it”.
On the next day, the media circus was fully installed. The first reports are on Sky News first thing in the morning, even before portuguese press takes hold of the story. Journalists and locals dispute the information. Robert Murat, the son of an english mother and a portuguese father, with little luck in business, does not waste the opportunity. He moves from failed businessman into the role of a translator for the press and the police. Some british journalists, after sucking him to the bones, start suspecting his availability.
The Murat contradiction
Contrarily to the GNR elements and the Ocean Club’s staff, who participated in the searches on the night before and assure they did not see Murat around, Gerry and some of his friends guarantee that he was there. And thus he becomes an arguido.
Gerry and Kate’s friends, who are interrogated tightly by the PJ over almost a month, refuse to clarify this contradiction, when asked by Sol. “We have a pact. This is our matter only. It is nobody else’s business”, says David Payne, another element with the group. Minutes after we tried to contact Kate, Gerry, in a fury, calls the Sol journalist: “What do you think you are doing? Do you think you’re better than the portuguese police? I’m going to forward your contact to PJ and you will have to explain yourselves”.
——-
PJ says ‘everybody is a suspect’
The director of the Policia Judiciaria in Faro, Guilhermino da Encarnacao, confirmed with Sol that “we do not discard the possibility to have the family and friends as suspects”. This is always done “without neglecting other clues. Everybody who was at the resort at the time are suspects”.
stop trying to discredit people who don’t agree with you Hal, with your ‘keyboard monkey’.
Noone knows what actually happened so there is just as much chance your opinions are wrong than anyone elses.
It seems to me like you are just sat here waiting for someone to say something so you can argue, your just being antagonistic for the sake of it. I can put my point across without needing to resort to petty names etc. That’s what good debating is. Unfortunately you don’t seem to be able to do this.

Hal - God help your three children if you had anything to do with bringing them up!! Why don’t you do something pro-active that may be of help in finding Madeleine
And you think that banging away at your keyboard, constantly crying about abduction, paedophiles, and sex slave rings, is doing something constructive to find the missing child?
The bubble has burst, Jean, and the hard questioning should now start. It’ll take more than faith and an army of keyboard monkeys to deflect questions once the PJ cuts through the BS and cuts to the chase.

Having done a quick skim through the last few pages, I’d say that poor Madeleine is now a product. Will they have ‘image rights’ in the same way that famous footballers do? As for ‘non-charitable services’ - it’s the word ’services’ that’s worrying. Are they going to set themselves up as consultants? Because we all know that the magic word ‘consultant’ ensures that one will be on a nice little earner. I can’t believe that all this was planned and set up when the main protagonists were grief-stricken and medicated to the point of zombiehood …

Actually, it is worse. It likely took a few days to get the filing set up and whipped into shape, ready to send into the patent office.
The corporation which was set up, Madeleine’s Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Limited, likely took a week or two to shepherd through the corporate registry office, so you’re probably back to about May 8 or so.
What would be even worse still would be if it were filed on April 18, 2007.

They’re franchising a chain of kindergarten schools and child-minding creches in Europe, North America and Australia, with the slogan, “Maddy’s mum and dad know minding best.”
brilliant…..
but seriously, what does it mean?
It means that, “Madeleine’s Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned”, is now a registered trademark, and unauthorized and unlicensed use of the name is prohibited.
It likely means that MissingMadeleineInc. intends to be around for the long haul, and will likely use their corporate goodwill and expertise to continue to raise funds for other causes.
What is most pertinent is “charitable and non-charitable services relating to the provision of assistance to families and others affected by missing children. ”
That, to me, suggests that they will charge fees for assisting others who have a child which has gone missing.
As the Scots so pithily put it, “Fookin’ Ghoulies!!”
All the more reason to clutch your kiddies closer to you. Now you have to worry about them being “disappeared” to become the poster child for a missing child campaign.

At a risk of repeating myself - the McCann’s set up this fund because people began sending them money voluntarily to help them look for Madeleine. Money has never been requested by Gerry or Kate McCann. What did you want them to do, put the cheques into their own personal bank account? How many snide comments would that have brought? As far as the various comments are concerned regarding the unforced shutters - you all seem to have very bad recall of the events. On the news after Madeleine’s abduction a police woman was shown dusting for fingerprints on the shutters of the apartment - which were quite obviously forced, it was also stated that she was in ordinary clothes instead of being in the white suits our police force wear when investigating similar crimes to prevent contamination of the evidence. That alone, together with other incidents, is enough to blame the police for mismanagement of the whole situation. I do not agree with the McCanns leaving their children alone, but the pain they are suffering now surely has taught them a cruel lesson, and we should all be focusing all our efforts on finding that beautiful innocent little girl, and every other child that has been abducted.

Hi Hal, Observer
Thanks for putting these points so succinctly. You have put my feelings into words. Possibly an non-accidental injury? I remember the Susan Smith story as well as that of Andrea Yates, another big circus based on lies. Paedophiles and sex offenders work in rings and groups.
For this kind of reward, people of that calibre i.e. would turn each other in. No locked door, No jemmied window, no smoking gun.

To what end, the farcical stolen wallet act….?
Publicity, pure and simple. The total-take counter at MMI showed a spike in contributions during that three- or four-day period when Mccann was newsworthy again (savages, unseen pickpockets said to be running off, one-of-a-kind photos). That little ploy (not reported to the police) likely extracted 30,000 pounds from the easily gulled faithful.

I do not live in the UK and I’ve never visited Portugal but I must say, the process of searching and investigating a missing child case is very much different than it would be here in the USA. (understatement)
Judging the manner in which the entire McCann “?campaign? ” has been handled and the fact it’s promoted so heavily by Gerry and Kate puts up many, too many red flags that would capture the attention of law enforcement in this country. How could they not? One of many things I find bothersome is when Inspector Olegario Sousa announced, due to the crowd of people at the crime scene, evidence may have been critically contaminated. Soon after, it was widely reported the McCanns were “dismayed” by Mr. Sousa’s remarks. Further, it appears so were other members of the McCann Team as it was stated by one of their members, “it’s insensitive at the very least”.
Insensitive? Dismayed?
How so? You mean to tell me Portugal police are expected to lie? If so, by whom??? The McCanns? And why, is my question. The rational answer is not one I want to think about. But I would advice Gerry and Kate McCann there is an ongoing police investigation in the search for their $$$daughter$$$,
~~~Madeleine~~~. (and yes, I also noted that Gerry had a problem spelling her name correctly on his blog - how insulting to Madeleine!)
The McCircus must stop. I agree, as “Leah” has stated here, the “brakes” need to be put on so all attention is returned to Finding Madeleine.
“No Stone Unturned” ???? I have to believe the McCanns are referring to marketing strategies (i.e., events, MaddieMerchandise, and whatever else might entice sympathetic but naive donors.)
In the USA, both hard and circumstantial evidence is analyzed by police and prosecutors and parents and family members of missing children are no exception. Rightly or wrongly it’s the parents first who are heavily investigated. Many even accept offers to take lie detector tests.
Fact: Abductions by strangers are *rare*. Abductions by family members is the ‘norm’.
Susan Smith, American: She claimed her two sons where nabbed by a stranger. You’d have to have seen the days of tears and angst she acted out on television — pleading — to the ‘abductor’ - her story was very convincing. I have to admit, after she was finally nailed by law enforcement I felt I’d been the only one left who believed her fantastical tale…..why, because the alternative and truth was too difficult for me to stomach. But since the Smith case, I try to take a less emotional route when coming to my own conclusions about missing children cases. (sorry to say, Susan’s two young sons were found drowned in a lake inside the very car she backed into the water. Her husband, father of the two boys, was not involved.)
Point is, Susan Smith was lauded as a wonderful mother by friends, family, practically her entire community. Fact is, she was a cold-blooded murderer.
Definitely: The McCanns should remain at the top of the list of suspects until this case is solved. What gives them the idea they’re not suspects is what I’d really like to know. I’ve had about enough of Mr. & Mrs. Arrogant who obviously think they should be immune to what other parents of missing kids go through, albeit tough, but necessary. It’s called Leaving No Stone Unturned which, after all is their ~alleged~ premise for the fund. (perhaps it’s time Gerry just call it what it is?)
That G & K are so offended or fear there are rational questions now being raised about their neglect (which, even that, they still haven’t admitted) leaves me to believe they’re hiding truths that could result in actually impeding the search for Madeleine. Are the Portugal police intimidated after their last announcement? Do they now feel so overwhelmed by criticism by McCann and their sheeples (some with an extraordinary amount of clout) they feel like giving up?
Gerry’s ~ alleged ~ stolen wallet:
Played out like a black comedy from the very first act, ending in an almost comical final act.
*These are a few of my own thoughts and views as a member of the now ‘diverse’ McCann audience. Gerry wanted to keep up interest so he gets his wish. I’m more than interested.
AND AS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT MADELEINES PARENTS WERE INVOLVED WELL THERE JUST AS BAD AS THE PEOPLE WHO TOOK MADELEINE,SHAME ON YOU.
There is no evidence that anyone “took” the missing child. The early reports of jemmied shutters, broken windows, doors standing ajar, reported as originating from the mouth of the father and relayed by the father’s sister, have been disproved as peotic embellishment and codswallop.
The statements that the parents checked on the sleeping children every half hour are refuted by the staff who brought the tapas and sangria which the parents stuffed into their faces.
Not a very convincing track record, right?
Hi Leah, Hecate, RJ, Manon
I wish I were so cerebrally challenged that I get given millions of pounds and get to travel abroad, AFTER I’d left my children home alone.
This wee girl could easily have wandered out of the apartment looking for her mother and father.
No evidence so far of an abduction. Or kidnap. Just greed. Hecate you were right about the insults, its supposed to be a free forum, but no. There’s always the one. Enjoy the kennels, dogs tend to look after their young, don’t they?
