Pictures And Video Of G20 Ian Tomlinson Hit From Behind By Policeman
MR Ian Tomlinson died at the G20 protest in London. Mr Tomlinson died from natural causes, so says the post-mortem. Hours before Mr Tomlinson died, he was hit. He was hit from behind by a policeman’s baton. Hit on the legs. Mr Tomlinson had his hands in his pockets. He was pushed to the ground. From behind.

And now Ken Livingston ‘muscles’ in with his opinion, not realising London removed him from duty last year.

Same with Essex Police, when I attended V98. The same force that used to hang their dogs I believe. But there are good and bad in all jobs and overwhelmingly I support the Police, though every time I’ve seen the footage of Mr Tomlinson my faith has waivered. Same as the copper who’s just been “done” for killing the teenage girl whilst driving through a residential area at night and at speed, without his blues and twos.

This officer should be on a murder charge. From my limited experience of the police in London I found their attitude appalling. I went to the Madonna concert in Wembley. The handling of the crowd was unbelievable, they decided to close a tube station early and refused to let the crowd leave to disperse on the street from their pen. I have been a law abiding citizen for 45 years and I was threatened with arrest twice for complaining about our treatment, I’m sure that the poor officers in the force only represent a small percentage, but this politically correct society that we live in prevents the bad apples from being removed from their posts and the management of the officers on the street is obviously lacking. I feel for the family of Ian Tomlinson, nothing will bring the poor fella back, but I hope justice is done!

The world today is filled with ugliness, rage and violence affecting many and more and more of those who are appointed to uphold the law are getting caught up in it. For months now one can bank when watching the news of reports with videos showing police beating up citizens they’ve stopped for whatever reasons they stop them on the street or driving cars. It is becoming all most an ugly epidemic. As I said to someone recently you give a policeman a gun, stun gun and handcuffs and watch their swagger down the street on a power high!

Percy, thank you, that’s very interesting. Puts a different spin on it. I suppose it’ll all come out in the wash…..or it won’t. I shall keep an open mind and, as usual, not believe what I read in the press……. Bob, good points too.

With the leadership effectively stating to the various protests groups, “Come and have a go if you think your’re hard enough”, no wonder that some of those in the lower ranks of the police were infected with this attitude and went out with the express intention of giving as much as they got.
Violence cannot be condoned from either side, and when it does happen should be treated equally, and if found guilty the copper concerned should face a charge of assault or even manslaughter if his action of pushing is seen to have caused the subsequent heart attack Mr Tomlinson fatally suffered.
If this had happened to a copper, then the person concerned would be quite rightfully hauled over the coals. The same has to be true of the Police, they cannot live by different rules to the rest of society.
Citizen journalism. It is so the way forward in keeping the corrupt elements of any public organisation on their toes. moral of the story? If you are out in public, expect to be filmed/photograph.
One more thing though, to throw the car amongst the pigeons.
Isn’t it illegal to photograph police these days?

The pictures I would like to see are those taken by the cctv….but in my experience they were switched off or looking t’other way mysteriously….probably pointed at you & me.

Dr. Eggy….the fund manager did not work nearby…he is American and there only to witness events…thank goodness for Mr. Tomlinson’s family that he did.
Mr. Tomlinson , however ,did work nearby and it seems like he was only on his way home Whatever he might have siad or done to the police, it is clear from the vidence, that the police response was disproportionate ,violent……and in this case, possibly deadly. Without witnesses these events go un noticed but are more common than we would like to think … I fear for our freedom & liberty.

looking at the video he appears to be aware he police are behind him and appears to walk across their path veeeerrrrrryy slowwwwlllyyyy so as to annoy them. one of the officers takes the bait and hits/shoves him.
terrible tragedy but this is not murder/ manslaughter as some people want it to be.
April 8th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
not wishing to divert from the tragedy which is Mr Tomlinson’s death, the video stills do not (and cannot) show what might possibly have been said to aggravate the situation…?
I find it hard to understand why officers would have acted in such a way without some sort of provocation, but physically Mr Tomlinson seemed to be doing nothing more than wandering along with his hands in his pockets, hence the thought that there might have been some sort of verbal exchange…?

Anyone know how the law prohibiting the general public taking photos/videos of plod doing their duty will be upheld in this case ?
April 8th, 2009 at 10:46 am
Thank you to the above contributors for at least understanding that Police officers are normal people, doing an extraordinary job on your behalf. Individuals in a mob behave differently from the way they do normally, and collectively a mob is a very frightening force, requiring force to disperse it, and to allow the country to continue to function.
Dont forget that this same mob, made up probably of normally decent people, forced entry into a bank and trashed it.
The Miners’ strike was a prime example of the Police doing their duty, but being vilified by the left, including some Shadow Cabinet members, for upholding the law. Now the boot is on the other foot, and those who are now Ministers are strangely silent.

The difference being, Percy, the fund manager would have been there because he worked nearby? He had every right to be there, I was wondering about Mr T.’s motives? Although, again, he didn’t deserve to die. But I am still on the side of the Police, without them, we’d have anarchy everyday. The same people who moan about the system happily claim dole money to pay for their fags, booze, etc…

If you study the pictures and video closely you’ll note the stress on some of the policemen’s faces - that was a tense and stressful situation they were confronted with and trying to control. Not going to condone their striking (if they indeed did) the gentleman, which a severe blow may well have caused a blood clot which ended up taking his life. Police are supposedly trained to maintain their control under pressure but…well, I do recall reading when 8 bullets were pumped into a man’s head who was already down in the aisle in the tube over there are a few years ago …

copper c-nts act all tough w/ the G20 protesters, but they ran away when confronted w/ Allahu Akbar…. England, Europe, your future appears quite clear now.
April 7th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Dr. Eggy…..I don’t think the foreign fund manager who filmed this and handed it to the Guardian could be described as a “not nice” person….more like an honest & concerned witness….even though he may also be a bit of a banker.
April 7th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
It’s clear he didn’t deserve to die, but he seems to be just shuffling along, to the annoyance of the Officers behind. I’ve seen the video on TV, still not sure if he was pushed or hit, but I would question his motives for being there, what had led up to the incident and why are we so quick to slag off the Police in this country?
If the Officers were trying to clear a route or get somewhere and someone gets in the way deliberately, what are they supposed to do? Not kill anyone, obviously, but a shove could well be expected in the circumstances. They weren’t dealing with nice people that day.

First …and sickund!

On the BBC’s footage you can see the FIT officer (high res jacket with blue bits) kicking Tomlinson when he’s on the floor and also the dog handle chap beats Tomlinson before he’s shoved.
