Remain v Brexit: what people off the telly said

brexitSick of listening to experts in money, war and politics talking on the EU Referendum? Us too. thankfully, the Daily Star has produced a double-page feature on what non-exerts  have been saying. Not one of these people has bene elected for public office, but they have been on the telly. Some of the quotes are fantastic.

“If it means we can go back to using decent lightbulbs and hairdryers, I’m joining Brexit” – Liz Huley , expert in wearing dresses

“The European Union reminds me of an overpriced, badly run hotel” – Alex Polizzi recommends a new UK with neutral colours and a kettle in every room

“The EU is like a huge rock festival: Everyone has colour-coded passes and there are no wars” – Eddie Izard has never watched The Rolling Stones at Altamont, nor STEPS during the school holidays

And the pick of the bunch:

“Britain is not just stronger in Europe, it is more creative and imaginative” – Benedict Cumberbatch, the actor who made his name as playing the pre EU Sherlock Homles

Big Brother hit over Laura Carter and Marco Pierre White Jr sex scene

marco white juniorYes! Yes! Yes!!! That’s the sound of channel 5 executives celebrating. Big Brother remains relevant as Ofcom launches an inquiry after contestants Laura Carter and Marco Pierre White Jr groped, grunted, frotted and reached on the Channel 5 show before the 9pm watershed.

Why did Channel 4 reject the show that continues to titillate the great unwashed, allowing it to slip over to Channel 5?

More than 600 people have complained at seeing White, the son of a celebrity chef of the same name, slide his hands down Carte’s knicker – whilst she was wearing them. Who knew that Channel 5 had such a big audience for Big Brother? Of course, we cannot overlook the chance that many of the 634 outraged citizens who called Ofcom to complain work in TV. Moan and groan enough and  – hey, presto! – Big Brother is all over the tabloids.

A spokesperson for Ofcom says: “We’re investigating whether sexual scenes in this episode of Big Brother exceeded generally accepted standards for its time of broadcast.”

If it did it will be tied up and whipped. Yes!

Madeleine McCann: Freud, Murat and a lynching at the Plough and Paedophile

maddie rewardMadeleine McCann: a look at the missing child in the news.

Daily Star (page 8): “Peado MP’s New Links to Maddie”

The paedo MP is the alleged paedophile MP Sir Clement Freud. He’s dead. He’s no longer an MP. Indeed, when he was alive he was not a known paedo, either. For a man who achieved celebrity and popularity in his lifetime, Freud’s post-breathing career has been disappointing.

The Star says that “bombshell emails” between Freud and Kate and Gerry McCann will be investigated as part of the police probe into the dead man’s alleged crimes against children. The former BBC TV broadcaster reached out to the McCanns when their daughter vanished. He had a home in Portugal not far when were Madeleine went missing. Kate says Freud “cheered her up”. Now a “source close to the family” says: “They took it at face value that he sympathised with their situation. They did not see anything sinister in his behaviour.”

You wonder what sinister intent he might have had? The mind boggles.

Daily Mail (Page 8): “Freud ‘drank in resort bar with ex-Maddie suspect'”.

Who is this former suspect? Why, it’s the entirely innocent Robert Murat, the poor sod libelled by sections of the British press. The Mail says the “paedophile ex-MP” – now a fact, apparently – “was said to have been on ‘nodding terms’ with  Robert Murat”. What happened to Murat and Freud being drinking buddies, drinking “with” each other?

The Mail says the “ex-MP’s local was dubbed the Plough and Paedophile”. It’s the Plough and Harrow, dubbed a haven for child molesters after a Briton working at the pub “went on the run after police tried to talk to him about allegations of child sex abuse images and grooming”.

But that is not where Murat drank. The pub Freud and Murat visited – but not together – is called the Pig’s Head. The landlord, one Robert Hurst, has been speaking with the Sun. That paper reports:

Freud, who was unmasked as a child abuser last week, was also a regular at a pub in Praia da Luz dubbed The Plough and Paedophile. The fact Freud and Murat knew each other is one in a series of odd links that the dead former Liberal MP had to the McCanns. He had also entertained Gerry and Kate at his house in the days after Madeleine disappeared in 2007.

Is that an odd link – two Britishers abroad on the Med frequenting the same local pub? Murat is innocent. The Sun features a photo of him and the caption “Prime suspect…Murat was later cleared by cops.” So, he’s not a prime suspect, then. He’s not a suspect at all. He was an arguido, much as the McCanns were branded. They too were libelled in the British Press. They too must be presumed innocent. There are no suspects in the case of Madeleine McCann. But there are victims who have been tarnished by association.

Robert Hurst, landlord of the Pigs Head, said: “I find that really odd. I can’t imagine why he would suddenly want to invite them to his house. At the time Madeleine went, all hell was going on. Police everywhere, people just stunned and he’s straight in there having them over to dinner. When it came out this week that he was a paedophile, it made you wonder what he was up to?”

Back in the Mail, we hear of  Vicky Hayes, “one of Sir Clement’s victims”, who says she told the police of Freud after she read of his befriending the McCanns in Kate McCann’s book. She was “convinced he was part of a paedophile rings operating in the Algarve”. The paper notes that Freud’s son, Matthew, says his dad was in the UK when the child vanished.

Some claims can’t be hard to prove. The rest of it invites nothing but speculation.

Jo Cox: newspaper uses murder to campaign for Remain

jo cox thomas mair murder courtThey suspended EU Referendum campaigning in respect to Jo Cox, the Labour MP killed in the streets of her Yorkshire constituency. No-one told the Daily Mirror. As Jo Cox’s alleged killer, Thomas Mair stood in the dock at Westminster magistrates’ court, giving his name as “death to traitors”, the Mirror wondered: could Jo Cox’s barbaric killing help the Remain camp win the vote?

The paper teasers its readers: “ComRes analysts were amazed when the results coming in after 2pm began to show a marked change of heart from Brexit to Remain.”

Nigel Nelson continues in the paper that supports Remain: “Voters became more inclined to want to stay in the EU after MP Jo Cox was shot.”

They did?

The astonishing finding comes in a ComRes poll for the Sunday Mirror. And it shows the murder of the 41 year old mum of two could have a direct effect on Thursday’s result.

Awful if it does. Awful if a heinous crime decides the direction the future of the United Kingdom. Awful if Thomas Mair, Mrs Cox’s alleged killer, has a decisive say in the vote.

Our pollsters were asking questions on the EU referendum at the exact time news broke of the attack on the Batley and Spen Labour MP at 2pm on Thursday. ComRes analysts were amazed when the results coming in after 2pm began to show a marked change of heart. Before Ms Cox was shot 45 per cent of those polled said they would be “delighted” if the UK voted to leave the EU.

That dropped to 38 per cent after it – and the Remain camp got an astonishing nine point boost from those saying they would be delighted if we stayed.

Jo Cox made a difference then, so too did Thomas Mair, allegedly.

ComRes polled a total of 2,046 people between Wednesday June 15 at 9pm on Thursday. Most people had answered our questions before Ms Cox was gunned down on Thursday afternoon, but 192 answers came in afterwards.

Seems a bit woolly, no? The poll contained no question on Jo Cox. It’s pure guesswork to say her death had an impact.

Maybe the Independent can help.

EU referendum poll: 44% would be ‘delighted’ if Britain voted to Leave. Only 28% would feel the same if it’s Remain. Exclusive ComRes poll for The Independent finds voters feel more strongly about leaving the EU than staying…

In the only reaction that favours Remain, 41 per cent said they would feel “anxious” in the event of a Leave vote, more than the 33 per cent who would feel the same about Remain.

But what about the “tragic Jo poll surge”?

Polling was carried out online on Wednesday and Thursday this week, with 192 out of 2,046 interviews carried out after the news of the attack on Jo Cox, the Labour MP. Andrew Hawkins, chairman of ComRes, suggested that the attack might have influenced responses: “Not all respondents will have learned of the attack immediately, and the results should be taken with a degree of caution, but across all emotions reaction to a Leave vote was more negative among those interviewed after 2pm on Thursday.”

Thankfully, the poll is published online. Comres reports:

With less than a week to go until the vote, British adults are far more likely to say they would be delighted in the result of Britain voting to Leave the EU, rather than voting to remain (44% v 28%).

Similarly, more than two in five say they would be disappointed if Britain voted to Remain (44% v 33% who say the same if Britain votes to leave).
Despite this, many British adults remain uncertain over the future of a post-Brexit Britain; two in five say they would feel anxious if Britain votes to leave the EU next week, compared to a third who say the same for remain (41% v 33%).

Labour voters are more likely than their Conservative counterparts to feel anxious in the event of Britain voting to leave the EU next week (52% v 41%). This is the only emotion where a majority of voters of either major party share this sentiment.

Such are the facts.

Jo Cox: Thomas Mair’s alternative therapy and other Nazis

Thomas Mair, 52, of Birstall, stood in the dock at Westminster magistrates court charged with the barbaric killing of Jo Cox, the 41-year-old MP for Batley and Spen. Why Westminster and not a court in Yorkshire, where Mrs Cox was killed? Because Westminster magistrates’ court is where terrorist cases are usually dealt with.

Asked for his name, Mair replies, “My name is death to traitors, freedom for Britain.” His lawyers step in and confirm that the self-styled Mr Britain is called Thomas Mair. He entered no plea.

Deputy chief magistrate Emma Arbuthnot noted: “Bearing in mind the name he has just given, he ought to be seen by a psychiatrist.”

Do all narcissists need to see a psychiatrist? Doesn’t the therapy industry create enough of them without inviting them in for a chat?

The Times adds:

The suspect had allegedly been a supporter of National Alliance, the American neo-Nazi group that inspired Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber, and has been called “the most dangerous hate group in America”.

Mair’s links to the “far-right” are front page news on the TimesYorkshire Evening Post and Guardia. The Sun and Mirror also mention it on their covers, albeit in context of mental health and Jo Cox’s private life.

tom mair jo cox nazi tom mair jo cox nazi

The Daily Star, which once supported the EDL, omits to mention Mair’s alleged “Nazi” sympathies on its cover, and leads with a pretty tawdry headline about what her last words were.

daily star pain jo cox

She is the Star’s “tragic Jo”. And on Page 4 readers do hear that Mair has Nazi memorabilia at his home.  “The alleged killer also splashed out on  books” from the National Alliance (NA), “a far-right US group”. The group “fight for an all-white homeland  and slaughter of Jewish people”. The Times says the National Alliance”inspired Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber”.

The paper also notes there is no evidence that Mair had anything to do with the NA after 1999, when he “appeared to have ordered Ich Kampfe, the book given to all  new members of the Nazi Party.”

So what about his mental health? Is it relevant? The Mail says it is:

tommy Mair health jo cox

The Daily Mail has learned Mair walked into a centre which provides alternative therapies and counselling the evening before the shooting.

Staff said he came into the private business – 100 yards from the murder scene – asking what treatments he could have. Rebecca Walker, 43, who spoke to him for about 15 minutes, said she realised he was in ‘some sort of crisis’ She said: ‘He said he had walked by the centre every day for years and wanted to come in but never did.

‘He has never had the courage to come in. He suffered with depression and said he had been on medication for a long time.’

Miss Walker said he seemed a ‘quiet and gentle man’ and added: ‘I couldn’t believe what has happened.’ She said: ‘He was clearly have some kind of crisis. I think there was a real problem. He made a choice to come inside when he had never been able to do that before.’

Courage to come in to the health centre a day before he allegedly killed an innocent woman.

Why did Thomas Mair allegedly kill Jo Cox? Because he’s ill? Because he’s a Nazi? Because he’s a terrorist? Because he’s scared? Do we put the crime in a box and hammer the lid down, using the whys to still the dynamics and censor the crime? Why did a man stab and shoot an innocent women – a public figure, a mother, a wife, another human being, a Christian, a Labour MP and all the myriad things Jo Cox was? Do we want to know?

Jo Cox: Brexit, white supremacy and what else they say about Thomas Mair

jo cox brexit

Jo Cox has been murdered. In a truly horrific crime the British MP was shot and stabbed by her alleged killer Thomas Mair as she walked on a street in Birstall, West Yorkshire. The Press are here to tell us about Mair.

The Sun (front page): “MP shot 3 times and knifed 7 times by crazed loner”.

Twice the Sun calls Mair a “crazed loner”. On page 2. Mair is a “mentally ill loner”. He “executed” Jo Cox with a “final bullet to the head”.

News media has quoted Aamir Tahi as having said the killer yelled “Britain first” as the knifed Mrs Cox. The Indy stated: “Aamir Tahir, of the Dry Clean Centre, said the gunman was heard shouting ‘Britain first’.”

Says Mr Tahi in a note on his shop window: “NO-ONE shouted Britain first at ANY TIME.”

Page 5:  Mair is now a “quiet loner” with a “history of mental illness”. He has been on medication and receiving psychotherapy for “prolonged periods”. Did any of it do him any good? Not much. Mair said “gardening and voluntary works has done me more good that all the psychotherapy in the world.”

Psychotherapists would disagree – it pays better than gardening.

His half-brother Duane St Louis, says Mair “cleaned himself with brillo pads”. “Locals” say he was “very helpful”. St Louis says his brother “was not a violent man…and is not that political. We don’t even know who he votes for. He never expressed any views about Britain , or politics or racist tendencies. I’m mixed-race and I’m his half-brother, we got on well.”

Another neighbour says Mair “keeps himself to himself… He has lived her for 40 years and never caused any trouble. ”

The Sun, however, is searching for signs of something. Another local man who know Mair says, “…he spent a lot of time in the library and liked to go on the computers there. I don’t know what he was looking up.” Why would he know?

Daily Star (front page): ” MP DEAD AFTER ATTACK BY BREXIT GUNMAN”

The Star says it was a “Brexit-motivated attack”.

At no other point in the article is Brexit mentioned.

Daily Mirror (front page): “The mum of two was shot three times and stabbed by a man shouting: ‘Britain first'”.

On Page 7, the Mirror’s Paul Routledge says claims Mair shouted “Britain first” “may prove to be right, or it could be wrong”.

Daily Express says Mair lives alone in a semi-detached council house in Lowwood, Fieldhead.

Daily Mail (front page):  Jo Cox was “murdered by a loner with a history of mental illness”.

Page 4: A source claims Mair yelled “put Britain first”.

The Sun says Mrs Cox was shot then stabbed. The Mail says she was stabbed then shot.

Page 7: “Timid gardener dogged by years of mental turmoil”. “Friends” – of the, er, “loner” – say he has shown no interest in politics or the EU Referendum.

The Mail says his name and address “appear on a list of former subscribers to an anti-ANC pro-white South African magazine”.

A local man says Mair “doted on his mum” and was a “lovely lad”.

Such are the facts…

Jo Cox murder: Guardian blames Boris Johnson, tweeters blame Muslims

jo cox murder

Labour MP Jo Cox was shot and stabbed and shot outside her surgery in Yorkshire. Many reports claim her alleged killer yelled “Britain First” before striking.

A 52-year-old man, named as Thomas Mair, has been arrested. What do we know about him? The Guardian notes:

Neighbours say suspect, named locally as Thomas Mair, would help them with gardening and did voluntary work

Adding:

His half brother, who is mixed race, claimed he had been volunteering at a school for children with disabilities for several years and had never expressed any racist views.

The paper says he has “mental health issues”.

Nick Gannon, 33, who lived two doors away from Mair, has known him since he was 10 years old…”He was friendly. If you said hello to him, he would say hello back. He was not aggressive or anything. He wasn’t frightening.”

Britain Stronger In Europe and Vote Leave have stopped their campaigns.

Britain First have moved to distance themselves from the assassination:

Tommy Mair Britain first

On twitter, a few voices sense a conspiracy:

jo cox muslims

Staying with the Guardian, Polly Tonybee knows why it happened. Even with no access to police records and interviews, she knows:

This attack on a public official cannot be viewed in isolation. It occurs against a backdrop of an ugly public mood in which we have been told to despise the political class, to distrust those who serve, to dehumanise those with whom we do not readily identify…

Her words drip in bias and opportunism. She mentioned Hitler, and how a goon or goons in “my local Labour councillor in Camden, north London” stuck a neo-Nazi stickers on their car windscreen. She records the words on the flyer: “This is a lave [leave] area. We hate the foriner. Nex time do not park your car with remain sign on. Hi Hitler. White Power.”

Others have been more erudite on racism and Hitler, people like Labour’s Ken Livingstone and Labour MP Naz Shah, both of whom Tonybee does not mention. She does, however have a point to make about right-wingers, apparently keen to paint Brexit voters as bigots:

It’s been part of a noxious brew, with a dangerous anti-politics and anti-MP stereotypes fomented by leave and their media backers mixed in. Only an hour before this shooting Nigel Farage unveiled a huge poster showing Syrian refugees fleeing to Slovenia last year, nothing to do with EU free movement – and none arriving here. Leave’s poster read: “Breaking Point. We must break free from the EU and take control of our borders.” Nicola Sturgeon, Caroline Lucas and many others condemned it as “disgusting”, and so it is…

This campaign has stirred up anti-migrant sentiment that used to be confined to outbursts from the far fringes of British politics. The justice minister, Michael Gove, and the leader of the house, Chris Grayling – together with former London mayor Boris Johnson – have allied themselves to divisive anti-foreigner sentiment ramped up to a level unprecedented in our lifetime. Ted Heath expelled Enoch Powell from the Tory front ranks for it. Oswald Mosley was ejected from his party for it. Gove and Grayling remain in the cabinet.

This is a new low. A woman is dead. Murdered. And people are using using her death to campaign for the EU Referendum. On twitter, we know what we get, but in the national Press we should expect better.

Police charge innocent woman for anus and vagina drugs search

Ashley Cervantes was 17 when US Customs and Border Protection on the Mexico border spotted her. Was she carrying drugs? They searched her vagina and anus. Then they sent her to hospital for an X-ray. Seven hours later Ashley Cervantes was released and handed a bill f0r $575.

The Arizona Capitol Times adds:

Attorney Brian Marchetti said they accused the woman, 18 at the time, of possessing drugs. When she denied that was true, they took her into a detention room where, during the next several hours, she was handcuffed to a chair, had several dogs sniff her, and eventually taken into a separate room where she was patted down and asked to squat so female investigators could visually inspect her.

All that, said Marchetti, occurred without her consent or a warrant. In fact, he said, a request to call her mother was denied.

It was what happened next that Marchetti charges clearly violated his client’s rights.

He said an agent of Customs and Border Protection signed a “Treatment

Authorization Request” to have her taken to a medical facility as an alleged “potential internal carrier of foreign substance.” That form, he said, requested an X-ray.

Instead, Marchetti said Cervantes was taken in handcuffs to Holy Cross Hospital where the doctor probed her anus and vagina.

And how was your day?

Owen Jones: Philip Green is an upper-class Jewish tax exile on a night bus

Owen Jones is talking about “The appalling Philip Green” in the Guardian. to Jones, Green is one of the “elite” who epitomises “broken Britain”.

Green’s testimony to the parliamentary inquiry into the collapse of British Home Stores was a crude, depressing but revealing insight into the psychology and workings of the upper reaches of British society.

Green might come across as a greedy bastard – he could well be one – but to claim him as a member of the upper reaches of British society is pushing it. Green is a Jew (and we know how much the aristocrats love Jews (clue: they don’t)). When he was 12, Green’s father dad died. Green  left school at 15. Though from middle-class money, Green is not one of the British upper-class elite.

He oozed open contempt for the MPs questioning him. “Sir, do you mind not looking at me like that all the time, it’s really disturbing,” he snapped at a Tory MP, like a drunk spoiling for a fight on a night bus.

More bullyboy then Bullingdon boy, then. But the confusion over what Green is is nothing to Jones’ grasp on the the system he decries:

And here he has a point. No, “the system” doesn’t compel the likes of Green to behave as they do; “the system” didn’t put a gun to his head and force him to become a tax exile…

Green is not a tax exile.

Omar Mateen: the bullshit of hate crime

Omar MateenMuch debate over why Omar Mateen murdered scores of people in a gay night club in Florida. Did he do it because he hated gays, loved Islamic State, was mentally ill, was able to buy guns, or because we there was nothing on the telly? The New York Times produces an editorial:

While the precise motivation for the rampage remains unclear, it is evident that Mr. Mateen was driven by hatred toward gays and lesbians.

He targeted gays deliberately. That much is certain.

Hate crimes don’t happen in a vacuum.

Hate crime? What’s a hate crime? This was mass murder.

They occur where bigotry is allowed to fester, where minorities are vilified and where people are scapegoated for political gain.

Hate crimes happen when expressing your opinion for something is deemed to be hateful by lawmakers. What is hateful is not fixed? Do you hate gays (wrong) or do you hate people tho hate gay marriage (fine)?

Tragically, this is the state of American politics, driven too often by Republican politicians who see prejudice as something to exploit, not extinguish.

You extinguish hate by making hate hateful and banning it, so they say. Mateen’s was a heinous crime. The New York Times conflates the slaughter of innocents with what people say. It puts violent acts on a par with violent words. Injury to feelings is placed on a on par with physical injury.

Incitement to violence, we can understand. But incitement to hatred can look a lot like outlawing expressions of heartfelt belief.

Madeleine McCann: Sir Clement Freud dug up and beaten with sticks

Clement-Freud mccannMadeleine McCann is back in the news. The Daily Mirror (the self-styled “intelligent tabloid”) wonders if a dead celebrity and MP kidnapped her.

‘Paedophile’ Sir Clement Freud lived close to where Madeleine McCann went missing as police ‘urged to probe link’

Sir Clement Freund, who died in 2009, was a paedophile? The Mirror wants us to consider it. But it’s uncertain if the dead man molested or raped or kidnapped children so it’s placed the word “paedophile” inside inverted commas. How fair is that.

Freud is believed to have sexually abused girls as young as 11, a documentary has claimed, and invited the McCanns to his Portuguese villa after she disappeared

Believed. By whom and why? And – get this – Freud reached out to the McCanns after not before their child vanished.

First up, we can look at who says the dead man did criminal things to innocent children.

Sylvia Woosley, now in her late seventies, said she was repeatedly assaulted by Freud over 60 years ago. A second woman claimed the former star of Radio 4’s Just a Minute panel game raped her aged 18 after years of grooming that included taking her on trips to the House of Commons.

Just a Minute is on the BBC. It’s a hat-trick of the tabloids game of Paedo Hunt for Freud: MP. Tick. BBC employee. Tick. Dead. Tick.

Former Crown Prosecution Service chief Nazir Afzal told the ITV Exposure programme that Freud, who died in 2009 aged 84, would have been charged with child sex offences based on Sylvia’s case if he was still alive.

He said: “I would have no doubt there is sufficient evidence to prosecute Sir Clement Freud.”

What the current CPS chief thinks we are not told. But it’s good to see Afzal finds life after service as TV pundit. Can Sylvia’s claims be tested?

Freud’s widow Jill, now 89, said in response to the film: “This is a very sad day for me. I was married to Clement for 58 years and loved him dearly. I am shocked, deeply saddened and profoundly sorry for what has happened to these women. I sincerely hope they will now have some peace.”

Now back to the paper’s ‘Our Maddie’ news:

‘Paedophile’ Sir Clement Freud had a villa in the resort Madeleine McCann vanished from and befriended her parents in the weeks after she went missing. Detectives investigating the three-year-old’s disappearance from in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007 have been alerted to the revelation and are reportedly expected to assess the new information before deciding if it may be relevant to the inquiry.

Did the McCanns ever visit with Freud?

They were invited to his house twice after Madeleine vanished and kept in contact by phone and email…. Writing about their first meeting – two months after Madeleine vanished – Kate wrote in her book Madeleine: “I’m usually very intimidated by people with brains the size of planets but Clement was incredibly warm, funny and instantly likeable.”

The swine!

He had cooked a watercress and egg salad followed by a chicken and mushroom risotto which was “the best risotto we’ve ever tasted before or since”.

The pig!

He invited them for dinner again in September that year but they cancelled because they had been named arguidos in the investigation. But they did go to his house for drinks later in the evening and he was dressed in a nightshirt watching a cookery show.

The depraved old bast…

Kate wrote of the meeting: “He gave me one of his looks and a giant glass of brandy, and managed to get a smile out of me with his greeting: ‘So, Kate, which of the devout Catholic, alcoholic, depressed, nymphomaniac parts is correct?’ Clement cheered us up with his lugubrious wit, and would continue to do so by email after his return to England,” she added.

The Telegraph has more: “Sir Clement Freud exposed as a paedophile as police urged to probe Madeleine McCann links.”

Exposed? Surely it has been alleged or claimed.

Sir Clement Freud, the former broadcaster and politician, was exposed on Tuesday night as a paedophile who sexually abused girls as young as 10 for decades.

Adding:

Sylvia Woosley said Freud befriended her family in 1948, when he was working at a hotel in the South of France, and started abusing her when she was 10.

Four years later, following a family crisis, her mother asked Freud and his wife Jill if they would look after Mrs Woosley, and she found herself living under the same roof as her abuser, being brought up as a daughter. The abuse continued until she managed to move away when she was 19…

A second woman wishes to remain anonymous. She alleges:

Another woman told ITV that Freud started abusing her in the 1970s, when she was 11, and eventually raped her when she was 18, by which time he was a Liberal MP sharing an office with Cyril Smith, who was also unmasked as a paedophile after his death. The rape was so brutal that his victim bled for a week.

The Telegraph than adds this to the dead man’s history:

With his finger on the capital’s showbiz pulse he helped propel a number of young acts to stardom and later boasted of being the first person to book the now disgraced entertainer, Rolf Harris.

The Sun: “NEW INFORMATION ‘Paedophile’ Sir Clement Freud lived close to where Madeleine McCann went missing – as TV doc makes startling claims”

Startling claims made by TV show. Yes.

Such are the facts.

Body shaming balls: Sadiq Khan thinks woman are pathetic

Khan bans body ads

Are you shamed by adverts featuring fit and lithe women encouraging you to look like them? London mayor Sadiq Khan says you are, or at least, you might be. He isn’t discombobulated by these sort of ads. He is strong of mind and self-confident. It would take more than an advert to shake him. But you might well be weak and easily wounded by a picture on a poster. So Khan will protect you from seeing fit and lithe women trying to sell you products by banning them.

Yeah, Khan’s a bansturbator. The Mail, which knows more than most about picking women to pieces, notes:

Ads that ‘shame’ Londoners over their bodies are to be banned from the Tube and bus network, Sadiq Khan has announced. The newly-installed mayor said there will be a block on adverts that ‘demean’ women or encourage them to conform to unrealistic shapes. The policy means controversial marketing campaigns – like Protein World’s ‘Are you beach body ready?’ poster that provoked a huge backlash last year – will no longer be allowed.

Perfect. Right now a load of creatives are wondering how to form a campaign that will get banned and noticed. Get it right and that ad budget will be a steal.

Russian Ultras, Joey Barton irony overload and Igor Lebedev mocks Andrew Bache

Russian thugs are in France for the Euros. The Star says 150 of the “hyper-violent” Russian Ultras are “on their way to ambush England fans again”. Surely to ambush people you need the element of surprise. The only surprising thing these goons are capable of is breathing with their mouths closed.

Russian ultras

The Star says the goons have given “bungling” French police “the slip”. The paper posts a picture of what appears to be pre-steroid Ultras division. The Mirror goes for the more pumped up version on its front page, and the news is no less inflated. The hooligans are “ULTRA EVIL”. They are “planning to attack the England v Wales match”.  They are reportedly supported by Russian MP Igor Lebedev, who the Mirror says tweeted, “Well done, lads, keep it up.”

Over page 4 and 5 we get more from Igor: “I don’t see anything wrong with the fans fighting. quite the opposite, well done lads, keep it up.”

As General Igor urges more aggro from his Moscow hilltop, we read that a few Russian Ultras were stopped at the airport, but other “slipped away from Marseilles by train”. You might wonder how anyone can slip anywhere in a country monitored by CCTV and armed police on the look out for jihadis.

We also read of Andrew Bache, 51, an England fan batted by Russian with an iron bar by Russian fans. He is in medically induced coma. Perhaps Igor can send him a card?

The Sun says Russians chanted “DIE! DIE! DIE! as Mr Bache lay on the ground.

Russia ultras

And then we see an oddity. On Page 4 Joey Barton tells how he “feared for his safety” on the street of Marseilles as he came face-to-face with the Russian nutters. He as “petrified”. His pals had a “”young lad” with them. Readers may recall that this is same Joey Barton who in 2008 was jailed for assault and affray. Barton was caught on CCTV in Liverpool punching one man 20 times before an attack which left a teenage boy with broken teeth. Judge Henry Globe QC said it was a “violent and cowardly act”.

Finally, we note that six England fans were jailed over hooliganism in Marseilles. There are not Ultras. But they are ultra thick.

Big Brother sex: Marco Pierre White Junior in Slave and Master chef

marco pierrer white junior

Did you see the “Big Brother Live Sex Show”? No, us neither. Well, that’s not true. We did see it last year, the year before that and the year before that but this year’s shag we missed. Thankfully, lending onanists a helping hand is the Daily Star, which leads with news of “record complains over soft porn scene”.

Most of those complaints most likely seep from the offices of the Star and BB broadcaster Channel 5, where the moaning and groaning sounds like a episode of Channel 4’s Sex Box, BBC TV’s Versailles, Sky’s Game of Thrones or wherever else viewers can get their prime time aids to masturbation on the magic box. “why can’t we do more porn?” they ask. “Big Brother is tamer than The Archers.”

Daily Star readers and Big Brother watchers demand more than soft porn. They want the proper porn. And on Page 11 they vent their spleens at the antics of Marco Pierre White Junior, an ambulatory comic strip who has been generously given the same name as his famous dad to help readers know who the hell he is. MPW’s leftovers have been engaging in “randy games” with Laura Carter (no, us neither). The TV chef’s son suckled on Laura’s breast and shoved his hand down her shorts. He then tied a belt about a his throat and asked her to whip him into a pink mousseline.

They then “dived under the covers for what appeared to be  full-on sex romp”. Appeared? The Star’s Peter Dyke needs to get up to speed with his porn. If he turns to page 32, he can see the advert and sign up for Television X, a porn channel run by the Daily Star’s owner.

New York Posts blames NRA And America for Orlando Massacre

NYDN Front Page mateen NRA

Who to blame for Islamist Omar Mateen walking into a Florida gay nightclub and murdered 49 people? The New York Post knows: the NRA.

“His killing machine of choice was a mass murderer’s best friend — and his enabler a gun lobby that has long opposed efforts to keep assault weapons out of the hands of bloodthirsty maniacs.”

Blame The Second Amendment. Blame America.

The Copycat Effect: Omar Seddique Mateen ups the massacre kills stakes

What do we know of Omar Seddique Mateen, 29, from reading the newspapers?

The Sun: Mateen is the “laughing gunman” who “slaughtered 50 clubbers”. He is an “IS maniac” who murdered 50 people at “gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando, Florida”.

We learn that Mateen shot an “armed doorman” on his way inside “America’s Bataclan”. He has driven his van 120 miles to Orlando from his home in  St Lucie, Florida.

Over pages 4 and 5 of the report, readers are told the FBI “freed” Mateen three times. He was “not considered a threat”. Before he killed he called 911 and stated his allegiance to Islamic State.

We hear of Mateen’s father, also called Seddique Mateen, 59. The Sun says he “declared himself president of Afghanistan” on Facebook. His page, Provisional Government of Afghanistan. calls on Afghan soldiers to attack Pakistan. He says the massacre was “nothing to do with Islam”.

Daily Express: “Omar Mateen is an “Extremist” on the paper’s front page.

The Express says he was investigated twice not three times by the FBI. Whatever the real number, the fact is they missed him. Indeed, there are reports he worked as security guard for a company that protected – get this – federal buildings.

The Express then tells readers Orlando is known as “The City Beautiful” and is the “world’s theme parks capital”.  It hosts the “25th Florida ilm Festival in April”. Does the Express have a deal with the Orlando tourism board?

Daily Mirror: Mateen is the “ISIS MANIAC”.

Inside Mateen is the “lone wolf”, although surely known wolf is more apt.

On page 7, the Mirror quotes Pat Robinson, a TV evangelist, who said, “I totally get the guy who did this…. I understand what drove him to such an act. This establishment was a lair of fornication… I think it’s a good thing it happened here.”

In “Voice of the Mirror”, the paper uses the world “Muslim” for the first time. The paper says Mateen is “not representative of Muslims”.  All of them, no, of course not. The paper cites Mohammad Ali, “a convert to Islam”, saying he and Mateen represent the “best and worst of all religiously driven men”.

What does a boxer have to do with the mass murderer? The link is pathetic. The West was not at war with heavyweight boxers, even the charismatic and pretty ones. The paper treats its readers as idiots who can’t spot the difference between a sporting champion and mass murderer.

What the Mirror does note, as do all papers, is that it was was the worst massacre in modern US history.

He “nails it: “I wish that TV talking heads would quit calling this “officially the worst mass shooting in US history”. Will you people quit keeping a leaderboard? There are sick f***s watching you that take that as some sort of challenge as they update their .xls spreadsheets.”

It’s called The Copycat Effect.

The Gun

First up, Barack Obama:

Today marks the most deadly shooting in American history. The shooter was apparently armed with a handgun and a powerful assault rifle. This massacre is, therefore, a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theater, or in a nightclub. And we have to decide if that’s the kind of country we want to be. And to actively do nothing is a decision as well.

He did not mention Islam in his address. The man who would be his successor as US President, one Donald Trump, is unimpressed, tweeting:

Is President Obama going to finally mention the words radical Islamic terrorism? If he doesn’t he should immediately resign in disgrace!

Us massacres Islam

The Telegraph

When Omar Mateen entered an Orlando, Florida, nightclub on Sunday to carry out the deadliest mass shooting in US history, he wielded a weapon that has been used in massacres from California to Connecticut: a military-inspired semi-automatic rifle.

Though so-called assault rifles account for a small fraction of the United States’ 30,000 annual gun deaths, they have been used in at least 10 mass shootings since 2011, according to a database compiled by Mother Jones magazine.

The AR-15 was developed from the US military’s M-16 rifle, used in the Vietnam War in the 1960s. Unlike the military version, the AR-15 is not fully automatic, meaning users must pull the trigger each time they want to fire a shot. Like the military version, many AR-15s combine light weight with a relatively modest recoil.

But Wikipedia tells us:

An assault rifle is a fully automatic selective-fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine.

He didn’t use an assault rifle, then.

Omar Saddiqui Mateen: deadliest killer in US history was not driven by Islam

Omar Mateen Pulse Florida Islam gay murder

In Orlando, Florida, more than 50 people have been murdered in a massacre carried out by one Omar Saddiqui Mateen. The killer struck at a gay nightclub called Pulse. The story goes that he didn’t like gays.

Approximately 50 people were killed inside Pulse, a gay nightclub, Orlando Police Chief John Mina and other officials said Sunday morning, just hours after a shooter opened fire in what appears to be the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

At least 53 more people were injured, he said.

Some of the injured are very badly hurt:

The shooter is not from the Orlando area, Mina said. He has been identified as Omar Saddiqui Mateen, 29, of Fort Pierce, about 120 miles southeast of Orlando, two law enforcement officials tell CNN.

Orlando authorities said they consider the violence an act of domestic terror. The FBI is involved. While investigators are exploring all angles, they “have suggestions the individual has leanings towards (Islamic terrorism), but right now we can’t say definitely,” said Ron Hopper, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s Orlando bureau.

Omar Mateen

Mateen was born and raised in the US. His parents arrived in the US from Afghanistan. His father tells media:

Mir Seddique, Mateen’s father, told NBC News, “this has nothing to do with religion.” Seddique said his son got angry when he saw two men kissing in Miami a couple of months ago and thinks that may be related to the shooting.

Nothing to do with Islam.

But why were the The FBI watching him?

The Federal Bureau of Investigation at one point opened an investigation into Mateen but subsequently closed the case when it produced nothing that appeared to warrant further investigation.

Omar Mateen photo

The BBC notes:

There are “suggestions” the gunman had “leanings towards” radical Islamist ideology, the FBI says.

There will be more suggestions made.

Jazz Shaw:

If you’ll forgive a bit of skepticism on my part, that sounds unlikely. I’m not saying that Seddiqui couldn’t have been anti-gay. (Islamic terrorists aren’t exactly known for taking part in pride parades, after all.) But that’s a pretty violent reaction for having “seen two men kissing.” The guy lives in northern Florida and this is the first time in almost thirty years he’s run across two gay guys engaging in a PDA?

The shooter’s ex-wife adds: “He was not a stable person. He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that.”

Much more to follow…

England football fans are all racist scum and the Queen is their idol

englandYou will remember all that stuff about football fans being “slum people watching a slum sport“. You will remember how casting all football fans as scum who deserved to be caged was what led to Hillsborough, when police sent for the attacks dogs as fans corralled into a too-small terrace not fit for purpose gasped for life.

Football fans were the Untermenschen on which all new methods of control could be tested. One doctor present at Hillsborough said the only difference ID cards could have made that day was to make it easier to identify the young corpses.

You remember that?

As the truth emerged after a mere 27 years years of waiting for the State-sanctioned police lies to dissolve, the Hillsborough campaigners calls for justice were dampened by a wall of sanctimonious bilge about their fight being a great day for Britain, a triumph of law and modernity, how today’s political, police and media elite had “learned lessons” to ensure “it will never happen again”.  But we didn’t have to wait long before the same old dislike of football fans to seep out. Guardian readers were told “The authorities failed Liverpool fans at Hillsborough. But so did the real hooligans.”

What hooligans? The fans who ran amuck when Luton Town played Millwall? The Liverpool fans who charged Juventus fans at Heysel, causing a stampede and a wall in a dilapidated stadium to break, killing 39? Yes, we know there were acts of hooliganism. But there was no aggro as the fans at Hillsborough died. The police were not attacked. Fans did not urinate on corpses and rob from the dead, as the Sun claimed (and finally apologised for). In the cages, the innocent begged for help. The police replied by forming ranks, by forcing the desperate fans back into the pens, by looking like an Army. They put on a show of force and menace as the innocent died.

Sticking with the Guardian, in today’s edition Dawn Foster writes beneath the headline “The Queen’s birthday has unleashed a pernicious new patriotism”. Her Majesty is 90. Foster is unimpressed and offended:

“…the celebrations for the Queen’s 90th birthday have crept up; if you’re lucky, you’ll suffer nothing more than a bombardment of Union Jacks this weekend – but many of us will experience something much worse: the performative cheeriness of the street party.

Friends of mine who live in areas where street parties are in the works have, without exception, reported that the people responsible are the perennially furious residents who spend most of their lives in a rage about parking. Shifting their attention from the contentious temporary ownership of asphalt, they have decided the neighbourhood needs to commemorate the birthday of a 90-year-old woman none of the residents have met.

It is all sneery stuff.

The party will follow the usual template: tea, cupcakes, flags upon flags upon flags, wartime slogans and songs, and the performance of a very specific type of Englishness – the Englishness of Fry and Laurie rather than This Is England. One harks back to the empire while the other attempts social realism.

This kind of middle-class nationalism, rooted in a confected history of postwar austerity, has been resurgent in the years since the last royal wedding. The ubiquity of the Keep Calm and Carry On poster is the most obvious symbol…

And then football fans get a kicking. The old hatred is back:

Nationalism now has two faces: that of the far right, signified by a certain sort of caricature of a football supporter and England flags, and now the middle-class right, posh enough to wear chinos while raising a glass to “her maj” in front of a Union Jack. The two aren’t entirely separate: the former is openly racist, the latter a frequent apologist for the British empire.

The football fan wrapped in and England flag and replica kit is “openly racist”, says Foster. In short, the England fans are scum, slum people, the embodiment of everything the knowing liberal elite despise.

Lessons learned? Never again? Nothing of it. The knowing have just found new ways to control the working-classes they deride. Don’t say that. Don’t sing this. Sit down. Pay up. Stay home and watch it on the telly because the seats have been made too pricy for you.

Let’s all have a street party. It’s part of British culture. It’s what the British do. If you want to serve humus, wear a Mexican hat, cheer for the French or tell everyone they’re sad losers, you can. Live and let live is part of the same culture.

Now, where is that flag and Jamie Vardy mask? C’mon In-ger-land. If we win, we’re having a party…in the street, the fountain, the shopping precinct, the hospital…

Manchester United’s David De Gea and the sex crime he didn’t commit

de gea sexA Manchester United “ace” is embroiled in a “vice probe”. The player is David De Gea, the Man United goalkeeper. The Sun says he “faces calls to be left out of Spain’s squad for Euro 2016”. The Times talks of “Spanish turmoil”. The Star cranks it up and leads with news that De Gea is “linked to child porn probe”.

But Spain’s manager says De Gea is going nowhere. What turmoil? What calls? As the Guardian notes:

“I think De Gea has given all the explanations he had to give and he has made it clear that he has nothing to do with this issue,” said the Spain coach Del Bosque. “He said that to the whole squad too. We all met up and the lad, calmly and sincerely, has explained that he has nothing to do with this issue. The squad is here to support him at all times and to give him the affection he needs at these times. Everything is normal and we’ll carry on.”

De Gea is not going home. Spain are calm.

So why is “Spain’s main man between the sticks” in the news ?

In “‘IT IS ALL A LIE’ Man Utd star David De Gea denies organising underage sex parties for footie pals”, the Sun delivers the facts.  “De Gea has been named by a protected witness in court documents which claim he contracted a prostitute against her will.”

He says it’s all nonsense.  “It is all a lie,” the Sun quotes him as saying. “I feel even stronger about staying with the national team… it is all false and it is in my lawyers hands. I never thought about leaving. It gives me more strength to train even harder.” The Sun adds:

Spanish website El Diario reports the stunning allegations were part of evidence given to prosecutors in a high profile case that saw porn baron Torbe, real name Ignacio Allende Fernandez arrested. The pot-bellied director was remanded in custody in April after being accused of running a prostitution ring and using under-age girls for his shoots.

You can read more on El Diario. Or you can read parts on the BBC:

Torbe was remanded in custody in April charged with offences including sex attacks, sexual exploitation and child pornography. The protected witness, who claims she was forced into the prostitution ring, said she was taken to a Madrid hotel and introduced to another girl and two footballers.

Once in a room with the other girl, the witness – known in police interview papers as TP3 – said that she was told by Torbe that she had to comply with the sexual demands of the two Under-21 internationals. When she said she did not wish to take part, she claimed to police that Torbe “grabbed her forcefully by the arm”.

The Times says Ignacio Allende Fernández is also being questioned into alleged money laundering and extortion. We get a few more facts:

According to newspaper reports, a witness has come forward to police — who is known only as TP3 — and claimed that she and another woman were taken to a Madrid hotel and forced against their will to take part in sex acts with Iker Muniain, the Athletic Bilbao striker, and another player, who has not been identified, and were victims of both “physical and sexual abuse” at their hands. She claimed the meeting had been arranged by De Gea and Fernández. The 25-year-old former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper was not alleged to have taken part.

Muniain denies any wrongdoing. The other alleged player is unidentified.

Neither De Gea nor Muniain has been accused of any offence or called to give evidence by police or the judge investigating the case, but the police unit conducting the investigation — codenamed “Universal” — say she shows “a high degree of credibility,” it is claimed. They have ruled out the possibility that she is trying to discredit the people concerned for “economic or personal interests”. She has alleged that neither woman was paid for the encounter, although Fernández was.

It’s all a very nasty business.  De Gea is accused of having committed no crime. It cannot be good for his morale and focus to be linked to such vile alleged crimes, but to say the entire Spanish team is in turmoil as a result of the case is baseless.
