Transfer balls: Arda Turan skewers Chelsea, loves Barcelona but tomorrow it’s Arsenal

arda turan barcelonaTransfer Balls:  The story of Arda Turan’s move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea or Barcelona features on the cover of Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo.

The paper say the two clubs won’t announce if Turan is moving to Barcelona until Monday.

Looks like the trusty Daily Star was wrong in saying Turan would announce his next move ‘tomorrow’, which is now today. But, then, the other British papers did say Turan was heading to Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United:

The Metro, June 30: “Arda Turan has agreed terms to sign for Manchester United from Atletico Madrid”

He’s on his way to Man United.

ES (Spain) July 1: “Barelona has reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for Arda Turan”

He’s on his way to Barcelona.

Daily Mail, July 1: “Chelsea favourites to sign £29m Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid with Turkish star preferring London move over Barcelona”

Transfer Balls: Arda Turan signs for Manchester United, wants Chelsea and ‘dreams’ of Liverpool

Arda Turan of Club Atletico de Madrid

Transfer Balls: Chelsea are in for Arda Turan. But he’s agreed to join Manchester United. And Barcelona. And Arsenal want him. Well, so we read in the papers:

Daily Mail, June 30: “Arda Turan keen on £29m Chelsea transfer as Turkey midfielder says he wants to leave Atletico Madrid”

He’s on his way to Chelsea.

Come on you Blues!

Daily Mail July 2: “Barcelona set to beat Chelsea to the £25m signing of Arda Turan”

Daily Express, July 2: “Arda Turan revelation gives Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal a huge boost – ARDA TURAN has confirmed that talks of a deal with Barcelona are completely false”

Can Arsenal get him? Do they want him?

But the Daily Star says it will all be sorted out today:

Arda Turan to decide whether to join Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United tomorrow – ARDA TURAN will announce which Premier League side he is going to join tomorrow.

Number of words in any of those stories from the player or Chelsea: nil.

But one paper has quoted the player.

Daily Express, February 27: “Arda Turan: Liverpool is my DREAM team and I want to play for them!”

Such are the facts.

Arsenal’s Petr Cech suddenly ages terribly (photo)

A mere three days since signing for Arsenal, the now former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has aged rapidly.

This was Cech when he joined the Gunners:

And this is Petr Cech now:

Of course it’s Sun computer wizardry that has made Cech appear oplder. But if that’s what he’s going to look like at 40, Petr might want to tighten the chin strap on his helmet.

Transfer Balls: Manchester United undercut their agreed bid for Morgan Schneiderlin as Arsenal wait

arsenal morgan

Transfer Balls: Time again to catch up with Southampton FC’s Morgan Schneiderlin. According to the Daily Mirror Manchester United have bought the Frenchman for £25million. On June 27, the Mirror reported:

Manchester United have sealed a £25million deal for Morgan Schneiderlin… Schneiderlin will join United from Southampton when the transfer widow opens on Wednesday.

The self-styled “intelligent tabloid” said “Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin to join Red Devils on Wednesday”.

Well, it’s Wednesday. And Schneiderlin remains a Southampton player.

The Sun said:

The Red Devils have beaten off interest from Arsenal to land the French midfielder

The Daily Telegraph agreed, although it said Manchester United had spent £24m on the player who would arrive at Old Trafford “this week”.

But today the Telegraph reports:

Manchester United transfer news: Southampton turn down £20m Morgan Schneiderlin bid – Opening bid for French midfielder falls well short of valuation of £25m for player also courted by Arsenal and Spurs

But Arsenal don’t want him. We know that because the Daily Star said the Gunenrs had “rejected” Schneiderlin. The Daily Express said Schneiderlin had “snubbed” the Gunners. Either way, there was no chance to the player heading to the Emirates. Although the Mirror did report that, er, Arsenal had signed Schneiderlin for £15m.

Such are the facts in the quaqlity Press.

Transfer Balls: Ezequiel Garay gets lost on his way to Arsenal and Manchester United

Transfer Balls: Ezequiel Garay and the Arsenal link.

The Metro’s Jamie Anderson (is he real or an SEO-bot?) has news that Garay is on his way to Arsenal. Maybe:

Screen shot 2015-06-29 at 13.45.30

He writes:

Manchester United and Chelsea are apparently keen, but after reports that Arsenal are interested, the Daily Star says the Gunners have now made a £13m opening offer.

Sanderson’s link is to the Daily Star:

Screen shot 2015-06-29 at 13.47.41

Alex Harris writes:

The Daily Express claim Arsenal have made a £13m offer for Zenit St Petersburg central defender Ezequiel Garay.

The Express is the Star’s sister newspaper.

In the Express we hear from Ben Jefferson, who, like Sanderson, might not be real:

Screen shot 2015-06-29 at 13.50.00

He too has a source:

Arsenal want the player to boost their back line ahead of the new season, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

No link in the Express. But the story on the Italian site runs:

Screen shot 2015-06-29 at 13.54.26

The Italians read about the Garay move in the Daily Telegraph.

Back to the UK, then, to learn:

Screen shot 2015-06-29 at 13.56.49

Finally we get the source of the story:

Arsenal are interested in signing highly-rated Zenit St Petersburg defender Ezequiel Garay, according to reports.

Which reports we are not told. No links. No sources cited. No quotes. No facts. It’s a human centipede of football reporting.

Transfer Balls: Arturo Vidal moves to Arsenal and Chile becomes Italy

Transfer Balls: The Daily Telegraph says Arsene Wenger and Arsenal have beaten Manchester United to Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

They have?

Arturo Vidal, the Juventus midfielder, appears set to join Arsenal this summer after reports in Chile claim the 28-year-old has signed a deal with the north Londoners… despite United’s interest in Vidal, it now looks like the player will join Arsenal who have agreed a £21 million deal for the player, according to Chilean newspaper La Stampa.

The Indepedent cites the same source for its Vidal to Arsenal story:

Screen shot 2015-06-29 at 09.24.43

The only problem with the Tele and Indy’s stories is that La Stampa is not a newspaper in Chile. They speak Spanish there. La Stampa is Italian for ‘The Press”. And there is a newspaper in Italy called La Stampa.

The Daily Mail gets that part of the Vidal story correct. But it fails to link to the story.

And on La Stampa’s website there is no news of the transfer.

But we did find this:

Screen shot 2015-06-29 at 09.53.25

We can’t find that radio interview, and on Feler’s twitter account he makes no tweet about Vidao to Arsenal.. But this tweeter does:

Transfer Balls: Chelsea’s Petr Cech needs Christophe Lollichon Arsenal if he’s to thrive

Chelsea’s John Terry says Petr Cech can win Arsenal the Premier League title. Arsenal want to buy Cech for £10 million. His first competitive match for the Gunners could be the Community Shield agsint Chelsea on August 2.

Says Terry:

“If they do get him, that will strengthen them for sure. He will save them 12 to 15 points a season. I am sure if he does leave — which nobody wants to see, but we understand he wants to play football — he is going to be sorely missed. He will improve whatever side he goes to.”

Transfer Balls: Wilshere gets to Arsenal deal as Manchester City scramble for Pogba

Transfer Balls: The Sun says Manchester City will try to buy Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere if they fail with a bid to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus.

City are desperate to land the French star but Juventus want a whopping £71million while Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested.

Pogba to City seems a longshot. The Sun adds:

Arsenal midfielder Wilshere is on a list of possible alternatives drawn up by City director of football Txiki Begiristain if they cannot get Pogba, 22.

But they won’t get Wilshere.

Pellegrini is a huge fan of Wilshere, 23, and the fact he is English is another major plus. But City fear the Gunners will want at least £40m. The England star is aware of their interest and ideally wants to stay at Arsenal — but only if he is playing regularly.

Of course Wilshere is aware of the interest – the story is being played out in the media. And the bit about him staying at Arsenal if he gets more games is straight out of his agent’s Press Briefings Handbook.

So he will seek assurances he will get the game time he craves before committing to a new deal at the Emirates.

No. He will seek more money – in football terms, the pay packet dictates the hierachy in the changing room. Indeed, the Independent says Arsenal cheerleader Wilshere will get “a new five-year contract that doubles his current wage” to £100,000-a-week.

Which leaves City scrambling for top English talent.

Transfer Balls: Arsenal bid £28.5m for William Carvalho but Manchester United got him for £37m

Transfer Balls: In an ‘exclusive” The Sun says Arsenal are bidding £28.5m William Carvalho, an Arsenal fan currently playing for Portugal Under-21s

ARSENAL have tabled a fresh £28.5million bid for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho. And the Gunners could get their man if they stump up a further £8.5m in add-ons to trigger the Portugal midfielder’s £37m release clause.

But this is Transfer Balls, a look at rubbish football reporting.

In March 2014, Steve Bates told Sunday People readers that Manchester United had got their man:

Screen shot 2015-06-20 at 09.04.28

TalkSport agreeed. But now the fee was £35m:

The signing of Carvalho, who is set to feature for Portugal in this summer’s World Cup, will be seen as a major coup for under-pressure Red Devils boss Moyes.

Screen shot 2015-06-20 at 09.07.25

That deal never happened.

In April 2015, Jamie Sanderson said Carvalho to Arsenal was a done deal:

carvalho arsenal

Sanderson cited a source:

And amid claims that Sporting have dropped their asking price to £21.5million, the Daily Express says a fee has now been agreed.

In the Express, Anthony Chapman had news:

Screen shot 2015-06-20 at 09.02.23

He writes:

Carvalho was targeted by the Gunners as well as Manchester United and Chelsea in the January transfer window, but the Telegraph claims that Sporting have finally agreed a fee with Arsene Wenger. It is believed that the Primeira Liga outfit were demanding £30m for the 23-year-old, but the two parties have now apparently settled on a more modest £21.5m.

No link. But we found it.

Screen shot 2015-06-20 at 09.09.42

The Telegraph has its own source:

Portugese newspaper O Jogo says negotiations have been continuing, and an agreement is now on the cards, with Sporting ready to sell for £21.5 million.

So there was no agreement at all.

Such are the facts.

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere fined £8000 per swear word

What do you think of the FA, Jack Wilshere? The Arsenal players has been fined – get this – £40,000 for referring to Tottenham Hotspur as sh** as the Gunners celebrated winning the FA Cup in front of their fans.

The entire episode featured five swear words – three of them in the gloriously sweary, ‘My old man said me a Tottenham fan, I said f*** off bollocks you’re a c***”. That works aout at £8,000 a cuss. Sepp Blatter should tell his FA men to stop milking the World Cup and just get a swear box installed in their solid gold sedans.

A single afternoon with Wayne Rooney and Roy Keane and the man from the Albania FA would have enough enough money to top Qatar’s bid.

Transfer Balls: Chelsea’s Petr Cech wants to set new Arsenal recrod but not for £39m

Transfer Balls: is Petr Cech leaving Chelsea for life at Arsenal? The Sun says the player’s goalkeeping coach has “risked a major rift with Chelsea — after indicating the Blues stopper wants a move to Arsenal.”

Christophe Lollichon has coached Cech at Cheslea since 2007. He told French media:

“His family like England. And a player is happy when his family is happy. He wants to stay in England, but I don’t know if there are discussions. The Premier League is his primary objective. But it will also depend on the conditions. The advantage is that Arsenal is a top club, with a philosophy that pleases him and that is in London. Tottenham? I do not think they have the same ambitions as Arsenal. Petr wants to break the record for the most clean sheets in the Premier League.”

And PSG?

“Much has been said about him at PSG but the problem is that when you have evolved in England, Ligue 1 seems light compared to what Petr has now experienced.”

Arsenal balls: Damian Martinez and Emiliano Martinez compete for one space

Damián Emiliano Martínez

The Sun’s Alan Nixon has the facts about Arsenal football club.

ARSENAL goalkeeper Damian Martinez is set to go on loan to Spanish side Getafe. The 6ft 4in Argentine has had spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham in the Championship but could now move up a level to La Liga. Martinez, 22, can- not even make the Gunners bench with Wojciech Szczesny, David Ospina and Emiliano Martinez already ahead of him — and a new arrival a possibility. So boss Arsene Wenger would be happy for him to go to Getafe for a year.

Can it be that Arsenal have two goalkeepers named Martinez on the books?

Damián Emiliano Martínez

No. It can’t be. There is only one Damián Emiliano Martínez…

Transfer Balls: El Shaarawy no Arsenal bid and Clement Grenier no Arsenal link

Transfer Balls: Utter drivel in the Daily Express, which yells: “Arsenal Transfer News: Italian WANTS move, striker deal AGREED, midfielder DONE DEAL”

The Italian is AC Milan’s Stephan El Shaarawy.

“A move for El Shaarway? There have been several teams interested, Stephan is a player who lots of teams like,” Manuel El Shaarawy said. “We can’t rule anything out, the transfer market is always the transfer market.”

Mentions of Arsenal: nil. Although in the Daily Star that line is proof that that player “WANTS Arsenal move”.

The stiker is Joel Campbell, who “has reportedly agreed to join Fenerbahce ahead of the transfer window.”

That’s Campbell who, reportedly, wants to play for Real Sociedad.

And the ‘done deal‘ is for Clement Grenier who has agreed a “three-year deal at Lyon”.

Mentions of Arsenal: nil.

Such are no news facts in the dire Express.

Transfer Balls: The Daily Express’ Ben Jefferson tells us “The REAL reason Gonzalo Higuain wants Arsenal, Chelsea or Man Utd move”.

Higuain plays for Napoli. Sun readers think he plays for Arsenal – the Sun declared that Arsenal bought the player for £23m in 2013. You might suppose the “real” reason Higuain wants to play for Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United is because:

a) He loves all three clubs with all this heart

b) He can earn a fortune

c) They are the only three Premier League clubs he’s heard of

d) He thinks Manchester is in London

Transfer Balls: Real Madrid pay Casillas to go and make way for Manchester United’s David De Gea

Transfer Balls: who will be in goal for Arsenal next season? The Evening Standard reports that Arsenal are watching Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas.

The Times says Casillas will leave Real giants this summer after 25 years with the club – he’s been there since he was nine.

And that means Real getting a clearer run at Manchester United’s David De Gea.

Indeed, so keen are Real to get rid of Casillas they will top up whatever pay he earns at a new club to match his curent earnings.

De Gea is on his way.

Arsena Balls: Dan Smith never saw red for the tackle that ended Abou Diaby’s career but you might

Arsenal have said farewell to their French midfielder Abou Diaby, who has been released into the wild by the club. The French international Diaby made a single appearance in Arsenal’s starting XI this season, and that was in the Capital One Cup. That was an improvement on his tally for the previous season, where he came on once as a substitute. In season 2012-13 season he played 15 times.

For such a talented player, his lack of action is a travesty. Many will trace the 29-year-old’s stalled career to a horrible tackle from Sunderland’s Dan Smith in 2006. Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal said Diaby “was the victim of an assassin’s tackle that went unpunished.”

Smith never saw red for that “studs up” “petulant” tackle. He got only a yellow card.

Sunderland lost the game 0-3. And Diaby was forced to miss Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League final clash with Barcelona.
