Just goes to show how stoopid the Japanese can be some times. I also lived in Japan and found them to be very naive about the world and I could totally believe this story about menopausal Japanese women buying sheep instead of poodles. Japanese will come on the defensive and say silly things but this story is true. There are many Japanese who don’t know that their nations slaughters whales and dolphins or they just couldn’t be bothered to know the truth about their naive island.

I’m an expat living in Japan. I suspect a lot of urban-dwelling Japanese, particularly Tokyoites, are completely cut off from nature, in spite of the ‘we-have-four-seasons-and-are-very-sensitive-toward-nature’ nonsense we gaijin often hear. I mean, how can anyone mistake a sheep for a poodle? But perhaps I’m being insensitive…
