Court Rejects Eight-Year-Old’s Divorce Plea
IN Saudi Arabia, a court has rejected a plea to divorce an eight-year-old girl married off by her father to a man who is 58, saying the case should wait until the girl reaches puberty.

The girl’s lawyer opines:
“She doesn’t know yet that she has been married.”
But the bride wore a doilly on her head and the kids from the nursey school all made fairy cakes and sang songs and it was really really really good and… and…
Relatives claim the marriage has yet to be consummated, and won’t be until she turns 18. That’s what an advanced dowry of 30,000 riyals ($8,000) buys you in the kids’ market these days.
