The Cardboard Tube Fighting League

THE Cardboard Tube Fighting LeaguE, a welcome:

Welcome to the San Francisco branch of the Cardboard Tube Fighting League (CTFL). The CTFL was created out of a desperate need to better train and arm citizens with cardboard tubes.

While many speculate that our fore fathers, when drafting the constitution, originally intended the fourth amendment to refer to fire arms, there is now a small group of non-academics who believe that they were more likely referring to elite militias of card board tube wielding ninjas.

While this training often takes place during childhood, it is discarded by adults who remain uneducated about the importance of such practices. The goal of the CTFL is to provide organized cardboard tube based events that help spread cardboard awareness. Among these pages you will find information, history, and event listings for duels in the San Francisco area.

Romanians Elect Dead Man For Mayor

vote-romania.jpg“I KNOW he died, but I don’t want change,” a pro-Ivascu villager tells Romanian television.

“The vote goes on as planned… We don’t have any legislation which allows us to halt the electoral process,” says a spokesman for the Electoral Commission.

Neculai Ivascu, 57, ran the village of Voinesti, Romania, for 18 years. He died from liver disease just after voting began – but still won the election by a margin of 23 votes.

Reuters reports that: “A local official said the authorities decided to keep the poll open in case Ivascu’s opponent, Gheorghe Dobrescu, won, avoiding the need for a re-run.”

The country’s Social Democrat Party (PSD), have called for a new vote, so allowing a fair go for one and all.

Mr Ivascu will be made to stand against: Illie Snookercu; Vlad the Impaler, Elena Ceauşescu (Monster Raving Loony Party) and many many more…

Dog Swept Up And Killed By Road Sweeper

sweep.jpg“THE animal was like a family member in my house,” says Robert Machin, the dog’s owner.

Mr Machin is reported to be completely torn over losing Ginger, his Boston terrier, and he can’t believe how it happened.

“Just being dragged into that machinery and killed in that fashion,” saysMachin.

When Machin broke the news to his mother, Carmen Canizares, he says she nearly collapsed.

“You have no idea, you have no idea,” she said.

Ginger and her mate, Buster, were both on leashes on the side of the street when the sweeper approached. Witnesses say the vehicle was moving at about 30 or 40 mph, much faster than the 10 mph it’s supposed to go, and that the driver was listening to headphones.

“He came so close to the car that he sucked the dog off the leash,” said Isamar Maldonado, who saw the horrifying incident.

Peta And Cruelty To Interns

peta-interns.jpeg

IT’S World Vegetarian Week and the animal lovers at Peta are showing how much they care for all creatures by wrapping  their interns up in cellophane on a hot day to protest cruelty against animals.

Ashley Byrne, a Washington, D.C.-based campaign coordinator with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), talks with Memphis police officers during a recent demonstration outside City Hall that coincided with World Vegetarian Week. When officers inquired about the well-being of intern Shawn Herbold (bottom) and volunteer Thomas Olsen, a sweat-soaked Herbold replied that she was in pain and feeling nauseated from the heat after being wrapped in cellophane for 30 minutes, and also asked how much longer she needed to stay there.

They shoot horses, strangle chickens and stun gun cows; oh, and hang, draw and quarter pigs:

Facebook Bans Danish Cat Eating Group

eating-cat.jpgA POSSE of Danish students from the Danish School of Journalism in Aarhus have been kicked off Facebook for cooking and eating a cat.

The students posted 30 pictures of themselves cooking and eating the animal, reports the Copenhagen Post.

“We wanted people to think about what it was they were putting in their mouths,” said Laura Bøge Mortensen, group member and the editor of a student magazine that carried an article about the meal…

“We had to count to three before we sat down to eat, and I wouldn’t really say that we stuffed our face. Everyone did take a bite though,” she said, before revealing the taste was “a little like chicken, with an aftertaste of fur”.

92-Year-Old Man Banned From Marrying 17-Year-Old

AGEISM:

The Egyptian authorities have banned a 92-year-old man from marrying a 17-year-old girl, the Egyptian al-Akhbar newspaper has reported.

The ministry of justice invoked a law which says the age gap between spouses should not exceed 25 years.

Egypt brought in the law prohibiting the marriage of elderly men to very young girls during the Gulf oil boom.

It was an effort to prevent wealthy men from the Gulf states seeking young poor brides from the Egyptian countryside.

The End Of The World Is Nigh For Yisrayl “Buffalo Bill” Hawkins

THE end of the world is nigh-ish:

Nuclear war will begin next Thursday, June 12, or sooner, according to the latest prediction of self-proclaimed prophet Yisrayl “Buffalo Bill” Hawkins, the founder of a religious sect in Abilene, Texas.

“It could be turned loose before then,” Hawkins told 20/20 for a report to be broadcast tonight. “You’re going to see this very soon, really soon,” he said.

Hundreds of truck trailers have been loaded with food and water on the group’s 44-acre compound, in preparation for the coming war.

Unfortunately for Hawkins, it is not the first time he predicted the outbreak of nuclear war.

Most recently, Hawkins set Sept. 12, 2006 as the beginning of the end.

His followers produced an on-line video with a countdown to doomsday.

In Kenya, hundreds of his followers actually hid in basement bomb shelters and donned gas masks on the date.

They went home in humiliation when there was no war.

But there might be – best to be prepared…

Christians Burn Harry Potter And Porn In Offering To God

harrypotter-sex.jpg“IT is allowed for Harry Potter to be taught in our schools, but not the Bible,” says International House of Prayer pastor James Crawford during the Shreveport Regional Unity of Faith Revival.

Pastors from “several denominations and races” ripped pages from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and pages from a pornographic magazine, tossed them into a pit and set fire the lot on fire.

“As I tore the pages, I felt a generational curse of immorality and perversion breaking off my family,” says one Adriane Banks. “I felt it.”

Romanian Boy Fed On Bread And Lard Removed From Family

BREAD and lard never did the Britsh Empire any harm:

Romanian authorities have taken a seven-year-old boy weighing more than 100 kilogrammes (220 pounds) out of his parents custody so doctors can help him lose weight, officials said Wednesday.

“We’ve taken charge of him for an unlimited period. He’ll be put on a regime of strict diet and physical exercise by doctors” in a special care centre, said a spokeswoman for the child protection agency in the county of Botosani.

The boy, born to low-income parents who fed him mainly on bread and lard, was admitted to hospital two weeks ago suffering from respiratory and cardiovascular problems.

But he was warm, right..?

Trial Abandoned While Jurors Play Suduko

OH: “A drugs trial has been abandoned in Australia after several jurors admitted they had spent much of their time playing Sudoku in the courtroom.”

Judge Peter Zahra aborted proceedings after the jury forewoman admitted she and four others had been playing the popular puzzles to fight off boredom.

The problem was discovered when some of the jurors were observed writing notes vertically rather than horizontally.

And:

Lawyers had presumed the scribbling they could see jurors doing was note-taking.

“We actually all thought they were quite a diligent jury,” lawyer Robyn Hakelis told ABC local radio.

“The judge had made many comments about what a good jury they were, how they were taking copious amounts of notes.”

The Art Of Legends Condoms

ARE condoms art, or a load of old fanny?

Now, Legends, a small operator that moves about 4000 tins of condoms a month, has struck a royalty deal with Hazel Dooney, whose irony-tinged works explore sex and sexuality, often through the portrayal of semi-naked women.

Legends, which sells condoms in colourfully decorated tin boxes, was founded by 36-year-old Daniel Moeschinger in 1999 and won a bronze medal in last year’s Packaging Design Awards.

The judge’s comments: “Legends are packed in a neat tin that has the utilitarian charm of a tobacco tin and the masculine cache of a Zippo lighter.”

Mr Moeschinger says he approached Dooney with the idea because, he says, he liked her artwork. He acknowledges the collaboration may attract some controversy “to a degree”.

“It’s skimming on the edge; it’s pushing the boundaries of what we can do,” he says. “Controversy wasn’t the main thing; it’s that she paints well, the images look fantastic on a tin and it’s about the message behind them that I really like.”

The works featured will form part of an forthcoming exhibition of Dooney’s work. She says the Legends collaboration is consistent with her approach of distributing her work outside the “conventional” art system.

Condoms for bollocks…

Making Jokes About The China Earthquake

WHEN can you start making jokes about disasters? When can the Chinese start making jokes about the Chinese earthquake?

In the UK, the topless stunna is the barometer of business as usual. But what in China?
In the Southern Metropolis Daily Wang Xiaoshan muses on “Sympathy in Disaster”. The same thing was tried in China, albeit done with a heavy hand.

He writes: “A few days ago I received a news item from the Mobile Paper (手机报) which reported the number of deaths in the Wenchuan Earthquake. But that issue of the paper also included the following test quiz and answers”:

An earthquake predicts how you will behave when you’re in love: when an earthquake hits, what is your first reaction?

A: Hide under a table;
B: Open the window;
C: Drop everything and run outside;
D: Immobilized with fright.

Analysis: A individuals are guarded; if their love is exposed, they immediately become skittish. They are also particularly nervous about their partner’s infidelity.
