Madeleine McCann: No Tears In The Faction So Far

sun-madeleine-mccann Madeleine McCann: No Tears In The Faction So Far NOT easy to get a pun in on Madeleine McCann. The papers need to look sensitive and so stick with straight-talking speculation. No puns. No confusion. Just factual opinion.

What we at Anorak call Faction.

And today the Sun’s Oliver Harvey - chief feature writer - produces “I’m thinking the unthinkable”.

“My misgivings began with the lack of emotion shown by the McCanns in those first few days after Madeleine went missing.

“No streaming tears, no trembling lips, no sobs of despair.

“Now that unease has become an awful gnawing doubt.”

Wot No Tears?

Harvey wants tears. Lindy Chamberlain (see Guardian’s dingo headline here) never gave the press much emotion.

Neither did Joanne Lees, whose lover, Peter Falconio, was killed in Australia. Bradley Murdoch was convicted of murder. Lees was wholly innocent. But Lees never cried. She never gave the media what they wanted.

Of course, the Mirror sees tears. It sees all. It sees Kate McCann back home, crying in Madeleine’s room. And the Express saw Kate’s tears on the flight home.

But Harvey sees only dry eyes. And in a woman who has lost a child he finds that odd.

Says Harvey: “It hurts me to say this, but I now fear something is amiss with Kate and Gerry’s story.”

But he says it. Bravely. He may have tears in his eyes as he does so.

Just like the Mail’s Amanda Platell might have wept a little (we did) as she wrote of Mrs McCann: “I haven’t seen such creepy control in a woman since Lindy Chamberlain cried ‘My God, the dingo’s got my baby’.”

Ms Platell might note that Chamberlain had her conviction for the murder of her child, Azaria, quashed. The dingo did it. Anything’s possible.

The Possibilities

Says Harvey: “So is it possible the McCanns could bury their own daughter in secret and concoct a huge fiction to fool the world?”

Possible? Of course. Most things are. Remember the dingo?

Harvey goes on: “And for every theory there is a counter-theory. But I have other nagging doubts.”

And because Harvey is a feature writer at the Sun he gets to share his nagging doubts with the world.

He notes: “And what about the lack of tears from the couple?

“The couple had been told by experts not to show emotion in case the person believed to have abducted their daughter was watching and getting a thrill from their behaviour.”

Hmm…

And what about him? Harvey says: “Gerry’s matter-of-fact blog — sometimes describing the weather and runs on the beach — also seemed odd.”

Odd indeed. It may even be odder than the Sun’s anti-peado Find Maddie campaign which saw its sister paper the News of the World stick a giant inflatable wanted poster of the child on a Portugal beach. Odder than the Sun’s drive for yellow ribbon and stories talking of paedos and kidnap.

But what does it mean?

Harvey considers: “The McCanns may be blameless, heartbroken parents.

But my doubts — thinking the unthinkable — persist.

I really hope I’m wrong. For the sake of my faith in human nature, I really hope I’m wrong.”

Fingers crossed…

wow - first - now off to bed!!

  2. 2 Annika Says:

High five noseycow - congrats on your 1st place :)

  3. 3 impressed Says:

well…..what an interesting tag line…. I raised the spectre of this issue on anorak on thurs starting at tag 113…. but interestingly i do not claim the lack of KM tears = guilty…. what the lack of her tears show is lack of sincerity…..

and sincerity is the hardest thing to fake…. trust me i’ve tried on more than 1 occassion…. As it is I’m still waiting to see that photo of KM and tears ….

it strikes me that never as a phrase been more as 1 for the mccann…. when you’re in a hole stop digging !!!

  4. 4 impressed Says:

oh yeah… forgot to say…. noseycow … well done …

  5. 5 Annika Says:

Joanne Lees said Bradley Murdoch had a dog with him. She saw the dog yet couldn’t identify it later - he described it as ‘just a cattle-type dog’.

    His dog was a dalmatian….

  6. 6 Maicen Says:

Blimey..at last someone in UK press expresses doubt. One for the Guinness Book of Records. Watch the Mail hit back on this with yet another gut wrenching saga on stitched up poor parents.

It is really about time UK press took a more unbiased viewpoint. And accepted there may just may be some truthful reasons in PJ suspicions. The blanket ongoing media circus support has done more harm than good IF these people are innocent.

I take it they are ALL reading Anorak now…!!!!! We are becoming infamous here. !!

  7. 7 impressed Says:

6 ~ Macien….in which case becarefull what you say…you don’t want to become as infamous as the mccanns !!….still you’ll know they are watchign anorak when they start quoting the voting… and wen they refer to PMas mark F…that’ll be the clincher….

  8. 8 Karen - Holland Says:

I think they are covering the death of Maddie.

Kate is cold and HAS SHOWN NO EMOTION!!

I wold be in a loony bin by now! if it was my child.

  9. 9 Moderation Says:

I think everyone has misread Anoraks irony in the above!!
Its called FACTION or didn’t you notice?

  10. 10 Moriarty Says:

The press suck. At least thats something we can all agree on - even Moderation ;-)

  11. 11 Moderation Says:

Absolutely Moriarty! They change with the wind…

  12. 12 diane from derbyshire Says:

Have none of you realised shock can make you totally numb ?unable to show any emotion no facial expressions.Any psychologist reading body language will tell you they are dead people, life is not worth living for them at the moment. My only consolation in all this is we are giving Diana a bit of peace!!

  13. 13 Maicen Says:

I have seen in some reports what the Forums are saying…quotes from here…. It is anyway called freedom of speech and we all but speculate.!!!

    Another good comment for once:

  14. 14 muller Says:

Once again il say if they are acting wanting to convince the world that they are innocent of any wrongdoing would they not be weeping and wailing at every opportunity its only innocent people that dont feel the need to put on any sort of act

  15. 15 Jacqueline de Croÿ Says:

I have been in charge of 6 children who had been tortured. They would spend most of their time laughing. Was it to make believe the cigarette burns on their bodies did not exist?

  16. 16 Maicen Says:

5………….to this day I do not believe J. Lees, regardless of the outcome of trial.I did not believe her from day one and believed her even less when it was discovered her other lover was also in Australia. Her miraculous escape is so “iffy” under circumstances. I reckon that lifer is probably innocent of that particular crime though he may be guilty of others.

  17. 17 Maicen Says:

7… Impressed…. well Mail referred to the “Tappas 9.” ..where do you think they go that from.? Not read it anywhere else but here so far.

  18. 18 Moderation Says:

For those who queried the Social Services Procedures……

Representatives from Leicestershire social services met the McCanns earlier this week as part of standard procedure to discuss the welfare of their two younger children.
If an individual is named as a suspect overseas and this is reported to police, their local social services department has a duty to consider whether action needs to be taken to ensure the children’s welfare. The meeting at the McCanns’ home on Thursday “went well” and there is “no decision outstanding”,

  19. 19 Stig Says:

Did you know that the name of the priest was Hubbard? It led me to think of that old nursery rhyme…:

    Old Father Hubbard
    Went to the Cupboard
To fetch sniffer doggie a bone
    But when he got there
    He found Maddie was there
And her parents immediately ran home

  20. 20 bulldump Says:

why, oh why would we be expected to believe kate invited the social services, this spin is really really frikken annoying.

Unless she doubts her own ability as a responsible mother

  21. 21 Anorak Says:

Moderation - I am off to register Faction as a trade name…

  22. 22 OnThe Fence Says:

Up to £80,000 will be drawn from the fighting fund set up to search for the Leicestershire youngster and spent on newspaper, television and billboard adverts.

    http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/80000-Madeleine-advertising-campaign.3204816.jp

But doesn’t the whole world already know?

  23. 23 Paul King Says:

One thing i would love to know!!!!When she found out that Madeleine was missing she run back to the Tapas saying they taken the girl, right?
So if you think someone has taken one of your kids would you leave the apartment without taking the other two kids with you?Someone take one kid and you still leave the other two there in bed while you go and get help?????No if someone takes one of your kids you would be scared to leave the other two alone again and no matter what you would take them with you in case they would also go missing before you get back to the apartment with help. How come no one has thought of that?I`m sorry but there is no way someone would leave the other two alone again if they just found out one had gone missing,But she did didn`t she????As was said the other two never woke up during the all thing,so she left them in bed no one would risk that much i`m sure. That alone says that she still felt safe leaving the kids alone after one had gone missing. Why????Because she knew no one had taken Madeleine and no one would take the other two either!

  24. 24 OnThe Fence Says:

  25. 25 Natalie Says:

With the exception of a few letters on this site, I think after reading the vicious poisenous hate-filled bile spewed out by these people, who I presume would have the gall to call themselves human beings, I think it’s time to urgently review the jury system. The thought of having a bunch of spiteful poisenous ignoramuses judging a person by their demeanour instead of concentrating on the facts of a case just beggers belief. Innocent until PROVEN guilty - what a joke!

With regard to Mr and Mrs McCann - it’s called ‘DIGNITY’ not something understood by many on here!

My heart goes out to them.

  26. 26 Moderation Says:

Paul King….. this is all unconfirmed and subject to several variations. Take your pick. The one you quote has been denied!

Bulldump… far better to call them in than sit and wait for the Social Workers to get round to contacting them. That could easily take a couple of years!

ANORAK. FACTION IS GOOD! I like FACTION. So descriptive!

  27. 27 Jacqueline de Croÿ Says:

Kate had rushed out screaming: “They took her”:

    - She should have thought twice rather than panicking, as she is now accused of having left the twins to be abducted in their turn, rather than giving the alert as early as possible.

    - She should have chosen her words and screamed “someone took her”, so as to prevent she might be accused of having “known her daughter had been abducted by several criminals”.

    - They should have closed the door to prevent the abduction, and also prevent the children to rush out and call them, or to make sure they scream and shout until they are unlocked, as any normal child would do.

    Innocent until PROVEN guilty?

  28. 28 Will Says:

    25 Natalie

Much has been speculated regarding the ‘facts’ of this case - given nothing is officially in the public domain - speculation is exactly what it is.

What scares me is somebody like you could be called for jury service.

Note to the apologists - typing in capitals doesn’t make something true.

  29. 29 Will Says:

I have asked this question so many times and yet to get an answer.

Would anyone who believes the McCanns had no involvement in Maddies disappearance please explain to me what they thought happened on the 3rd May.

Also what ‘facts’ point to an abduction by persons unknown?

Don’t all rush at once and no writing in capitals please, it’s rude.

  30. 30 Molly Says:

correio da Manhã - translated by Isabel (ionglobaltrends)

PJ belives that K&G had the colaboration of other Or at least the friends that were with them had helped covering the lie.

After Madeleine was missing McCanns had a lot of reporters concentrated on them.
Plus depoiments done by friends comtradicts.

Russel O´Brian said that he whent to Madeleines when he whent to check on his children, but afterworths said NO he did not.
    All friends contradictes themselves.
To clarify all of this PJ going to ask for depoiment of friends. It will be in English wich dificultes the investigation.
Phill Hall is the new employed by the McCanns.

K&G never confessed to the católic priest for 4 months while they were in PDL.

Before going to England K&G gave key of Church to the Anglican vicar and did not contacted the catolic priest or thank him or said good bye to him.

Works on building a wall behind the Church is going to start on Monday.

There are much more see what I can get done…
