At least he went, unlike the brave Bush and Blair families….

  2. 2 Randie-by-Name Says:

True enough June. However, isn’t it a little worrisome to see someone grinning like a lunatic while he’s holding onto the trigger of a killing machine that lets off who knows how many hundred rounds a minute? Let him free with that baby under any tunnel in the uk and I imagine there wont be a pap left to spread the word about it.

    ************

So, do we think he fired it at all?

  3. 3 Denzylle Says:

Harry has been very naive but his advisors even more so, so they are the ones to be blamed. They say they had a plan in place for if the world’s media exposed Harry’s whereabouts - yes, isolate him in Afghanistan, then bring him back at the first opportunity - but what about a long term plan? And was Harry briefed about the long term implications?

9/11, supposedly, brought us all the worldwide threat of Osama bin Laden and Islamic terrorism. Bush (by mistakenly conflating Osama with Iraq) brought us the Iraq War and its interminable legacy. Until now, the Taliban remained largely in Afghanistan and surrounding territories. Now - thanks to Harry - the Taliban enters the international arena and will take its place on the world stage for the next sixty years (if Harry survives as long as his grandfather) or as long as it takes.

I feel for Harry to some extent as I don’t believe he has had the true implications of his resolve to fight drummed into him - that he will remain a target of extremism until his life ends or until Taliban extremism ends whichever is sooner. But, more importantly, many others will also be dispensible targets - those who happen to be with him at any time - just like the young boat boy who innocently rowed Lord Mountbatten and his grandson out on their fishing trip in 1979.

  4. 4 Randie-by-Name Says:

Do we think he fired at all? ummmmm, not sure about that one - if he did, did he make those noises little boys used to when they were playing with imaginary guns before they graduated to air guitar? I’d hope that something the size of that thing would have a silencer built in cos if its making “ZAP KAPOWEE BOOM” noises, it’ll be a dead giveaway for where the foxhole is.

The question of whether he hit anything worries me a bit more. There’s a whole opium crop out that way that’s dependant on the people with guns not using the poppy heads for target practice.

  5. 5 May Says:

The test is, what happens next?

Is it sufficient for a commentator to be able to mumble about Harry having served in Afghanistan, when he lays a wreath at the Cenotaph?

Can Harry be given a credible future in the Army, without endangering his comrades? The best option.

Or will he reside in Africa, with Chelsea Davy, doing good charitable work in the style of his mother? And for how long would be find that fulfilling? What then?

May, there’s a thread in the Forums about HRH and his military role, perhaps you’d like to contribute?

Now to me, who thinks we should not be fighting the Afghans, this is a truly obscene picture. I read somewhere that Harry mat have killed, or helped anyway, up to 30 so-called taliban. Again obscene.I just don`t believe he was ever put in harms way or was anywhere near any front line action. With the PR expertise these days it is more than ever true that we only hear what “they ” want us to hear. Using a member of the Royal family in this way , to promote an un-popular military action, could very easily back-fire and blow up in our faces and it should not be allowed.
I am a cynic , I am now aged 55 , but I did not used to be until the last 10 years really.
