Madeleine McCann: Shannon Matthews, Karen Matthews And Britain’s ‘Sickest’ Man

karen-matthews.jpgMADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann and Shannon Matthews

DAILY MIRROR front page: “I KNOW WHO’S GOT SHANNON”

This “I” can reach the police on a special hotline, number 999. A team of trained operatives are there to take your call…

“Clairvoyant dramatic claim to missing schoolgirl’s mum”

Missing Shannon Matthews’ mum Karen has dramatically been told by a psychic: “I know who snatched your daughter.”

He said the schoolgirl, nine, was abducted by a man both she and Karen knew vaguely - but was alive. A relative of distraught Karen, 32, revealed last night: “What he said got to her as he knew a lot of personal information.”

Three clairvoyants looked for Madeleine. And a psychic barber

MY GIRL IS ALIVE: “THE HUNT FOR SHANNON Father clings to belief she will be found”

Hunt. Like the “Hunt for Madeleine”.

“The distraught dad of missing Shannon Matthews yesterday spoke about his “beautiful angel” - and said he is convinced she is still alive.

Says Leon Rose: “I’m living a nightmare and keep pinching myself to try and wake up. I still keep hoping she’ll come walking through the door.

“I have never felt such pain before but I’m determined to find her. I need to stay strong for her sake and to keep my head straight.”

We are watching the parents. It is as if the grim case of Madeleine McCann has set new standards in tabloid reporting.

In “DADDY’S SNAPS”, readers see pictures of Shannon Matthews. In one she is holding her hands over her face. Do you recognise her? The pictures reflect normality but there is nothing normal about a missing child.

Last pictures are not always the full picture

The voice of Shannon Matthews’ father trembles with emotion as he talks about these last pictures he has of his missing daughter. Leon Rose told the Mirror yesterday: “It’s the only thing that makes me happy, seeing these pictures again.” There are snaps from their “last big family day out” - a Thomas the Tank Engine day at a park with a light railway last summer. Leon said: “They make me smile because it was the best day I can remember.”

Leon says he was “horrified” when he called into a corner shop to put a poster of Shannon in the window - and was asked to pay £1. The paper says he calls the shop worker the “sickest man in Britain“.

Isn’t the sickest man the one who might have taken his daughter? If that is, she has been taken by anyone?

But the Mirror is on it. The Mirror will see that right is done.

Yesterday a worker at the Lifestyle Express, Mohammed Hussain, 58, insisted he was not the owner and had not been working that day. He said: “I am sorry. It is a misunderstanding. I did not know about this missing girl. We charge everyone £1 a week but I would not charge the dad of a missing girl.” When the Mirror pointed out the local paper directly in front of him with Shannon’s picture on the front he added: “I don’t read English. He came to the door and asked to put a poster up but we didn’t realise who he was. “If he wants to bring one I would put one up free. Of course I would.”

The Daily Mirror: champion of missing children posters

DAILY MAIL: “1,400 - The number of sex offenders living within 20 miles of Shannon’s home”

Or within 25 miles of her home, as the Star had it yesterday. Is there a 5-mile zone where no pervert lives?

THE SUN: “Mum’s 999 tears are revealed”

A HEART-RENDING extract of the 999 call Shannon Matthews’ mum made to report her daughter missing was released last night.”

Wanna hear it? Wanna hear a “desperate mother” worried sick about her child? You can.

DAILY EXPRESS: “Mum’s frantic call to police over Shannon”

TELEGRAPH & ARGUS (Bradford): “City officers control hunt for Shannon”

Officers based there are hoping the release of an emotional recording of her mother’s 999 call will help prompt witnesses to come forward. West Yorkshire Police have released an extract from the call Karen Matthews made to the police on the evening of February 19 reporting her daughter’s failure to return to their home in Dewsbury Moor.
In the 71-second clip, Mrs Matthews, 32, tells the operator how she had been checking with family and friends and how she had been expecting her daughter home at 3.30pm at the latest.

She appears to be in tears as the woman at the police control centre asks her if Shannon has gone missing before. The mother-of-seven replies that she has not. She says: “I have been everywhere I can think of friends-wise, family and everything.”

DAILY STAR: “I TIDY SHANNON’S ROOM FOR WHEN SHE COMES HOME”

The desperate mum of missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews last night told how she is keeping her bedroom ready for her return. Although she cannot bear being in the room, brave Karen is keeping her daughter’s top bunk fresh with new bedding “for when she gets home”.

Is this a message to whoever might have Shannon; something the child might see? Or just another chance for use to stare at the parents?

DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Shannon Matthews disappearance ‘breaking family apart’”

A picture of Karen Matthews crying. A close up of her face. Are we intruding? Is it good to cry? Is it what we want? Or crying in public a mistake?

annie1, and you will be perfect, you strike me as the archetypal harridan, a truly heartless individual.
Yes you really are a crock, you must have had a particularly sad life to be so venomous, about a situation you know nothing about, you should seek counseling.

    ********
Gandolf, unless you personally have inside information you are unwilling to share, I fail to see what right you have for condemning annie1 as a harridan, when she has merely pointed out some undisputed facts concerning the disappearance of Madeleine. We could add much more inexplicable data, and the “innocent explanations” seem very slow to materialise. Perhaps you can help?

You are right about the Vatican … they do have knowledge and spies. I bet a lot was going on behind those walls as the Vatican would want to preserve its image and not let folks use them, if you get my drift. Body language would play a part too. They didn’t actually get into the Vatican building, did they.

The truth ,although you’r going to deny it,is that the Vatican pulled all internet references to Madeleine , after the first FSS results were known.
Nothing to do with the P.J. or even more the poor priest !!!
You know very well that the Vatican ,has very good spies.
Now ,spin it, as you like it.
All the others ,wont forget what happened ,and in the end , it will be Sean and Amelie ,that will do Justice to Madeleine.
A lot ,of people worldwide ,will make that this saga will not end ,till the truth is known.
    Now pray to your Gods

Isn’t it funny, I was always lead to believe that our Souls went straight up to Heaven.
I hope so…somewhere in the Good Book it says, all souls go back to God. I like to think I will go there and that no-one will have to pay any money to get me out of purgatory.
I don’t believe in purgatory myself. If there is such a place a purgatory, it must be full of the hopeless.

    Shadow Says:

Whatever they told the priest he must think that the Mccans are no threat to their existing children or else he would have had to tell the police.
Therefore if they had any involvment at all this would suggest an accident.

The mother of Shannon is treating everyone close around her as suspects wheras the Mccans treated their close friends with complete trust.

‘I was deceived’ says the Portuguese priest who comforted Gerry and Kate McCann
Last updated at 10:03am on 18th October 2007

The Portuguese priest who comforted Gerry and Kate McCann in the days after Madeleine vanished last night said he had been deceived, it has emerged.

According to reports, Father Jose Manuel Pacheco claimed he had done nothing wrong and was simply “supporting two lost souls.”

But, bizarrely, he also appeared to say he had been the victim of some form of deception

Praia da Luz priest denies reports in UK newspaper
    Source: The Portugal Resident (19-12-02)

Praia Da Luz church is receiving the image of Our Lady of Fátima on Monday, December 18, in a special visit to the region and this is the reason why ribbons and images of Madeleine McCann have been temporarily removed from its interior, according to father José Manuel Pacheco, the local catholic priest.

Praia da Luz’s community “has not forgotten the little British girl and special prayers are still being held every Friday,” father José Manuel Pacheco told The Resident.

The catholic priest was reacting to reports in the UK’s Daily Express in which he is said to have “ordered the removal of scores of green and yellow ribbons which were put up as a symbol of hope in the days after Madeleine vanished”. The British newspaper quotes a “close friend to the priest” as saying that the latter “can’t even hear the Madeleine case mentioned without becoming irate.” A statement that father José Manuel Pacheco describes as “barbarity” and a “lie”. “I do not know who that ‘friend’ might be, but I doubt such person is my friend”, he told The Resident.

Father José Manuel Pacheco ensures that “priests have no power to order anything in our churches. We have an entity for that, which is the Conselho Pastoral, where the catholic community is represented”.

With regards to the key to Praia da Luz church that the McCanns were given after Madeleine went missing, so that the couple could pray in privacy, “that was a decision made by the Conselho Pastoral and I only knew about it three days later”.

Father José Manuel Pacheco said: “Madeleine McCann’s parents know that we support them and that is the most important thing. The family kept very close and good relations with the church and its representatives in Praia da Luz”.

Madeleine McCann has now been missing for 225 days and her parents renew appeals every day looking for “that piece of information” that will lead to her being found. In contrast, the police investigation being carried out in Portugal continues to focus on the couple as the main suspects for her probable death.

    Gandolf Says:

Well Karen, I think I may have a good idea, but as I dont have any way of proving my theory, I will just say that whatever they told the priest was not as bad, as killing their daughter. May all the saints in Heaven light her path and preserve her.

I know lost souls can end up in Purgatory - we have to pray for them to get out - they go to Hell too - but what do you think he meant by it?

Karen, no the churches view is that it is a place of limbo, like purgatory almost.

    “See” you tomorrow .
