Making Sweaters From Loved Ones And Dogs
WHEN Kara and Penny died, they left behind a little of themselves on the carpet of Beth and Brian Willis’s home.
Whooa! This is no tale of murder most foul. It is a tale of two dogs, albeit with human names. We are a nation of dog enthusiasts but not all dog deaths are investigated by the police. The world of vets has to produce a Harold Shipman. Not yet.
What Kate and Penny left behind was hair. And Beth and Brian set about combing it from their carpet. They spun it. And they turned the yarn into jumpers.
Says Brian: “They are extremely warm and pretty much waterproof. Unless it is banging it down it is fine. I’ve always got a sweat on by the time I get from the bus to the shops.”
Indeed, it cannot be easy keeping up with your jumper at 73-years-of-age, should the garment have retained elements of the creature’s personality. And then there is the tail chasing, sniffing and urinating.
A picture of Beth and Brian in the Sun shows her to be a woman with workable grey hair and Brian to possess a goatee beard.
There is every reason to believe that should one of them perish – be run over by car, say – the other can kept he love alive in the form of a hat or lined vest…

Most spinners are emphatic its treated with flea killer, gets washed anyway so drowns the little buggers.
Message to all knitters out there, you can scratch your ears with your needles, not a back foot….

Its recommended to use sheeps wool in equal weight for weight with the fur.
Now then, I have a black bin liner full of golden retriever combings…….

I read several dog lists and people have sometimes asked for fur for spinning. No idea what they make out of it though.

If only Brian had been allowed to shave Beth’s chihuahua more often they would have had enough for the whole family

This sort of thing can get a tad obsessive.
Near here there was a guy who kept and raced a team of sled dogs.
Alaskan Malamutes to be exact. They are big brutes and could never really be described as yer average household pet. They are just as likely to bite chunks out of your arms, legs, nethers (anything they can get a hold of) as greet you.
He worshipped the dogs and entered every race going. The dogs are so powerful they don’t need wheels on a sled when there is no snow.
The racer disappeared one night, taking his sled, sled dogs and a few rations with him. He never came back from the hills and was later found living in much reduced circumstances 100 miles further north with another sled team owner…female.
When asked why he left home for a very precarious existence he said: ” The wife didn’t smell doggie enough.”
The tragedy is …it was not said as a joke
