Andrew Johnston Eats Pie Jesu

WHEN Charlotte Church sang Pie Jesu on TV’s Big Big Talent Show, a nation wept.

We’d heard it before of course, when former Mrs Andrew Lloyd-Webber Sarah Brightman sang it; when pubescent snowman Aled Jones sang it; when Madonna sang American Pie; when every keen –to-get-along child sang it.

So here’s Andrew Johnston singing it on TV’s Britain’s Got Talent. He’s the “schoolboy who sang away the bullying bullies.” Young 13-year-old Johnston says he has been bullied for singing but will not be stopped.

And Johnston’s sympathetic backstory does end there. The Mail says he lives on a council estate…in the north of England. He lives there with his mother. His father left when he was eight-months old. “On occasion she had to feed her children on bread and milk.”

Sweet Jesus, how can this boy not win? Only a godless, child-hating swine would not vote for him to be Britain’s Most Talented Pie Jesu singer of the year.

Save Andrew. Says he in the Sun: “Loads of kids my age are drinking. I don’t want to grow up and drink and do drugs.” We hear the warning. Should we make Andrew a celebrity and in so doing expose him to drink and drugs?

Thankfully, there are many others. Right now, hundreds mums and dads are training their child to sing the song that guarantees talent show success.

Of course, there is the risk of staleness , and we urge parents and kids to change things around a little, to sing Pie Jesus in the style of, say, Kylie Minogue, Joe Dolce or a virginal 50 Cent…

My 93 yr old Gran used to warble out some godawful stuff, funny thing until she was 92 could never hold a note, if she ever found one, but at 93 its permissable to torment everyone

Seriously though, Andrew’s voice is wonderful

  3. Lee Montgomery Says:

    What’s going on?

    Am I pissed?

    Am I seeing things?

Is the video card on my laptop actin up?

Why is everyone posting their comments in italics?

  9. DuncanR Says:

    Oi!

Who changed my comment to italics?

  10. Carmen Says:

Your comments are straight up and down to me Duncan - maybe it’s you standing sideways????

  11. DuncanR Says:

    Bloody bizarre!

Switched to my ‘work’ laptop. And exactly the same phenomenon. Every other thread is ‘up and down’ writing. This particular thread is displaying everything in italics on both laptops!

Right, first step switch everything off. Disconnect router. Count to 30. Switch everything back on again. And cross my fingers.

  12. willo Says:

Why was it filmed in the Phillipines?

  13. Adam Says:

Andrew is an amazing singer, true there are other amazing singers but he has gone in for the show. He sang something that gets a reaction, that is something that everyone knows but he did it better.

The point of a good performer is to pick something that will attract and capture the audience. That is what he did.

He has suffered more from bullying than any other child I know, more than I suffered as a child Treble and yet has kept singing. It might be a sob story but the spin is put on by the media, the others all have angles his happends to be true.

Best thing is what I was always told.

“If you have nothing nice to say keep it to youself”

    Regards

    Adam

  15. Dean Says:

Sometimes within a world of bitter confusion, when the human race seems as if it will implode at any given moment, we are given a very undeserved gift, a gift so rare and unique that it makes a mockery of the word celebrity or star, as though it appears like a bright light through a small crack in time, an Angel is sent here to remind us all just how special all life should be. 13 years old from a housing commission neighbourhood, yet making many men, 2, 3, 4 times his age seem like ignorant fools. Andrew Johnston and many others may not be aware of it just yet, but this little boy carries a message for all of us to hear and if you close your eyes and listen carefully to his song you will understand the feeling within this message he brings .

    Listen

  16. G MOTO D Says:

Andrew Johnston … is indeed very special

It’s true! … very few appreciate a real talent these days because it is seldom found. many voters does not make talent! … talent arrives with or without the votes of many. We are all so run of the mill and when something truly special appears, we either bag it, hit it or compare it to all this commercial shit that takes absolutely no talent to acheive. Only envy drives those to attack or abuse something this special. Should they be so lucky? … Ask your self, what were you doing when you were 13?

Spice Girls … Ha! … Who’s the fool?

  17. Rachel Says:

North Of England; To be precise, CARLISLE. He’s done everyone here proud. He DOES live on a council estate, called Stanwix. he said “I live on a council estate and i dont want to grow up like my mates wandering the streets, i want to make something of my life.”
Hes a VERY talented young boy, and he goes to my school; in my class.
Well done Andrew, ignore your so called “mates” they dont want whats best for you, they just want whats best for them. Take it all the way Andy! You can do it! I’ll be voting for you!

  18. Trish Says:

Way to go! Keep up the singing,I finally saw and heard an angel sing!

  19. john Says:

thank you andrew johnson Haverhill ,Massachusetts

  20. Shirley Says:

Dear Andrew, Hold your head up son and be proud. God has given you a beautiful voice. I saw you on a news clip here in America the other day and was moved to tears. Thanks to the internet was able to look you up. Too many children today are the victims of bullies. My son was one. Perhaps you will be an inspiration to them. I hope we will be seeing more of you on TV or a CD. God Bless and Take Care. Manage your money wisely when you go to the top.

  21. Menno Says:

I’ve just seen his performance on youtube: WOW!!
Absolutely beautiful! I hope he will win.
But in any case, he has already won: the hearts and admiration of many people, and that is something no stupid bully could ever do, that takes talent, passion and a great character.

  22. Bevan Fry Says:

the author of this article sounds like he was a bully in his younger days! Recognise talent when you see it mate. It is not healthy to go through life being so cynical.

  23. andy Says:

whoever wrote this sounds like a cynical tool.

  24. Paul Says:

The author of this article is one sad person - what did they expect Andrew to describe about his life when asked ? I suggest some people try to learn a little compassion, this pit of a country may start turning a corner if they did.

  25. Hantslad Says:

Andrew Johnston should clearly have won Britain’s Got Talent. But without wanting to sound sour I wish george all the best. Anyone wanting to continue to support Andrew can visit his website

Good luck Andrew in the future.

  26. Cocoa Says:

Just been reading that Andrew is due to meet with Simon this week to discuss his future. Sounds exciting!
Hopefully we’ll hear more from this talented boy soon!

  27. jo Says:

The most amazing voice I heard in a very long time.

  28. sugar cube Says:

I have never been intrested in that kind of singing, but Andrew Johnston really changed that & I am absolutly into it now & hear him everyday. I wanted him to win so much, but unfortunately he didn’t & I am proud of him being in the third position. I hope he makes something of his talent. I will buy his first CD for sure. Good luck in your life & always remember that you are admired by thousands.
