Hating Bruce Forsythe And Sharing Harry Hill’s Joke

bafta-forsyth Hating Bruce Forsythe And Sharing Harry Hills JokeFRESH back from the BAFTAS, TV’s AGM and awards do, we learn that Bruce Forsythe has won a “Fellowship Award”.

“TV veteran Brucie steals gong show,” says the Mirror, with unnecessary cruelty. If the BAFTA members want to give Bruce a long-service medal, then so be it. We would say that he not steal it so much as earned it, although Des O’Connor may disagree.

“It’s impossible not to like Bruce Forsythe,” says the Mirror’s TV watcher Jim Shelley. Impossible? Nothing of it. The trick is to picture Bruce throttling your pet dog, repeatedly running over a dear family member or marrying Anthea Turner. You can learn to hate him.

“If you like TV, you’ve got to like Bruce Forsythe,” says Shelley.

Or like Harry Hill’s TV Burp, the show in which Hill takes the rise out of TV programmes and TV stars and gets a laugh.

That’s officially the best thing on the box, it having won the BAFTA for best entertainment performance.

Like us at Anorak, Hill realises that everything on the telly is a comedy show disguised as something else. You just have to get the joke…

I have Bruce and Harry on my wishlist!

    Very sexy men!

  4. yampster Says:

Since it was first awarded in 1971 there have been 70 recipients of the ‘Fellowship’

63 of the recipients have since died (64 if you include the Merchant Ivory production team)

Perhaps it’s Bafta’s way of telling him to slow down.

(P.S I made one of these figures up. Can you guess which one?)

    1971 ?

  6. Mic Says:

Was it the ‘7′ from 1971?

  7. yampster Says:

    Not even warm.

Bruce sexy? Just can’t see it myself.

He seems to come from the ‘Roy Castle’ school of entertainment. Bit of everything…… Song and dance, jokes, presenting etc. Lots of everything and nothing done particularly well.

I seem to be in the minority and Bruce has become a bit of an institution.

    Still can’t see it!
