I wonder what would have happened to those pitiful, helpless prisoners if their wicked captor had died suddenly, would they simply have been left to rot in the cellar?
DAILY EXPRESS“Austrian police today revealed that DNA taken from the six children of caged Elisabeth Fritzl proved sick Josef was the biological father.”
THE TIMES: “The (DNA test) result… shows that the six children, which the unfortunate Elisabeth Fritzl gave birth to in the basement, have all been undoubtedly fathered by her own father, the now 73-year-old Josef Fritzl,” says Colonel Franz Polzer, head of the criminal investigation unit in Lower Austria.
THE INDEPENDENT: “Prosecutors said they were investigating Fritzl over the death of the seventh child and that he could face a charge of killing the child through neglect.”
“Josef F. is being investigated for murder by failing to render assistance,” local chief public prosecutor Peter Ficenc told Reuters.

The evil father who locked up his daughter in a cellar for 24 years and fathered her seven children was pictured on a ‘boys holiday’ to Thailand in the 1990s, it has been revealed. Josep Friztl is believed to have stockpiled food in the dungeon where Elisabeth and her three children were being held.
The four were expected to survive alone for up to two weeks until Fritzl returned. Snaps of the electrical engineer enjoying himself were made public for the first time today…
They come as it was revealed that Fritzl has told police he acted alone. He has told detectives he was not helped to keep his Elisabeth and their children hidden in his cramped basement.
But police are not yet convinced he is telling the truth and are investigating how he could have bought food and clothes for them without anyone suspecting.
And Elisabeth Fritzl?
Elisabeth Fritzl, now 42, met her mother Rosemarie for the first time in almost a quarter-of-a-century last night after finally escaping her father Josef’s clutches. Police revealed the meeting as they announced DNA tests had confirmed Fritzl was the father to all seven of Elisabeth’s children.
Mrs Fritzl is said to have broken down in tears at the meeting just miles from the home she shared with her husband, where her daughter and grandchildren were incarcerated in a windowless dungeon.
All of Elisabeth’s children, apart from daughter Kerstin who is in a critical condition, were also at the reunion at the Mostviertel psychiatric clinic.
The rest of the children are said to be “quite well”. Any organ publishing pictures of them will be fined £25,000 euros…

Poor Elisabeth, not only has she been deprived of the most basic of existences, she has endured untold degrees of degradation through constant rapes, bore 7 children from this incestous relationship, lost 1 infant to death, 3 babies were striped from her arms to be raised by this beast, and now it appears Kerstin will be lost to her, as well. Elisabeth Fritzl, you deserve every good & perfect thing that can be given to you in this world, and in the world to come…and, poor Kerstin….now they are saying that she may have been raped by this over-sexed maniac when he decided that Elisabeth was not as young and pretty as she once was. Nobody in this family will ever be able to lead a normal life.

Who I feel the most sorry for - except Elizabeth, of course, as it goes without saying - is her daughter Kerstin. Elizabeth and her sons have a chance - a small one, but still - to live a different life. Kerstin has been born into captivity and will probably die not knowing a different world. It is heartbreaking to think of it. What a horrible, horrible drama.

This is such a terrible thing. What has this world come to for this horrific event to take place? And what breaks my heart futher is knowing that theres always the possibility this could happen again-if it isn’t already taking place some where. I also fear for those who read this, I pray that the work of Josef Fritzel is never again practiced. I can’t help but think of all that goes around us, and that no matter how hard we tell ourselves, for as long as we walk this Earth we as humans, creatures with thoughts and desires, are never truly safe.

The world owes nobel award winning author Elfriede Jelinek an apology…..
Elfriede Jelinek, Austria’s Nobel Prize-winning novelist, has been criticised in the past for her “hysterical” portraits of a repressive society which breeds sexual perversity, suppressed violence and human degradation.
Well, it looks as if Ms Jelinek may not have been hysterical after all. Even she would have struggled to imagine the cunning beast that is Josef Fritzl.
How many more anguished ghosts have to come up out of the cellar before Austria honestly examines its own past?
Austrians are are weird lot. Their gene pool needs a little clorine.
The culture is so repressive that I am not surprised that 3 cases within 5 years have come from this culture.
These people (austrian)trust NO ONE. They are not neighborly to each other. They don’t travel as much as germans.
Now the prime minister of austria wants to fix it’s public image…well i say start with within….the whole country needs special training on how to deal with each other, strangers and be more open.

It is a wonder Elizabeth and the children survived in that dungeon. The place must have been soundproofed well and the girl couldn’t dig herself out or bang around. Unbelievable! This man will get 15 yrs if convicted-what! What will happen next will be interested. IMO.

I would think that that this man’s past is linked to the second world war. Why? Because he is a leftover from the second world war and he is an evil man who thought that rape and killing and burning of bodies was ok to do. When you come to think of it, there must be more than him, thinking the way it used to be.
In my honest opinion, if you looked at his very early life, it would have something to do with concentration camps.

I think it would be very unwise to pass comment on his wife -if she knew nothing as I believe it would be very unkind to make this worse for her-I don’t get the feeling we are talking about another Rose West here IMO.

I find it incredible that any human being could read the information we have been provided with, and then ask
‘What is wrong with these mothers?’
A more relevant question would be
‘What is wrong with Elisabet?’
After all, there has to be something seriously wrong with a person who ignores Josef and his despicable actions in favour of launching an attack on his wife…

This has to be the saddest tale….
I just hope the family can recover and do not suffer from the consequences of genetic faults as well as all the psychological ones forced on them.
But they are freed from their dungeon at least and at last.
Clearly they were not granted human dignity, the though of them perishing must have constantly worried Elisabeth.
I hope she is handed the key that locks their male progenitor away, and then loses it
