Hayley Adamson Killed By Police Swift Response

police-speed-gun.jpgA SPEEDING police car has killed 16-year-old Hayley Adamson as she crossed the road, on which the speed limit is 30mph.

A Chris Broatch tells the Mirror: “I estimate they were both doing 100mph. I don’t know why they were going so fast. They were going too fast to see her.”

A crowd gathered at the crash scene in Newcastle. Police were pelted with stones. Officers subdued Hayley’s boyfriend, one George Oliver, with a Taser stun gun and arrested him.

Says Chief Superintendent Paul Weir, of Northumbria Police: “There were a number of incidents following the collision and understandably emotions were running high. However, we cannot tolerate that emotion spilling over into violence and disorder.”

Police say the cars were not responding to a 999 call. They say the crash officer’s Number Plate Recognition System had identified a suspicious car.

It’s all tragic, of course. A girl is dead.

But the debate will not be about her. It will be about the police and if silent running is an accident waiting to happen.

But if they don’t race to the scene with stealth won’t the public complain that the police don’t get to crime scenes quickly enough?…

    Its catch 22….
But, was waiting at a level crossing (barriers down) and ambulance with lights flashing and siren going had to wait(barriers up again) while some idiots walked in front of it…..
Think if the blues and twos are in use, then surely people can take evasive action to avoid them?

Using a siren doesn’t reduce the speed of a car…

is a stolen car worth killing innocent bystanders for is the real question.

if people were killing people in order to steal their cars, the police would say it was outrageous.

but it’s not outrageous for them to kill people trying to reclaim one.

and apparrently it didn’t even have its headlights on, never mind the blue one and a siren.

all for a car with no tax or insurance it seems.

I have to agree with Chenier. The lights/siren will not effect the speed of the patrol car. And aren’t the lights/siren used to warn motorists and pedestrians alike that they are coming and at a higher than normal rate of speed; kinda like a “Hey you, look out”. I always thought they were suppose to use them when they speeding.

that article contradicts itself first it says that they wernt speeding for a 999 call then it says but if police didnt race to a scene then people would complain that they didnt respond fast enough, well they have no need to be speeding if they wasnt responding to a emergency then they shouldnt have been speeding so in that case no wew ouldnt complain…….and i hear they had no head lights theres no point in acting like we dont know who was in the wrong here….police are the worst for speeding coz they take advantage of their power

If you were being attacked by someone, should the police respond and speed, or should they obey the speed limits?

a couple of years ago me and some friends witnessed a couple of men smashing car windows we chased them whilst someone called the police. the offenders escaped but the police arived pretty dam quick and skidded in the road to demonstrate how quickly they had been travelling. I was pleasantly surprised with their haste , until that was, i realized that the attending officers were community support officers. When i asked why they had come, they did not answer my question but said the ‘real’ police will be here shortly. I then asked if it was legal for them to be travelling in such a manner, again they would not answer my question, but again said the ‘real’ police would be here shortly. Needless to say the proper police did not arrive. I took a walk up to the police staion the following day to inquire as to why the police had not arrived and to ask if it was legal for the community officers to be speeding around in patrols cars.
I was told that the community suppoort officers had radioed into the control that they had the situation under control. I was also told that the community support officers can be a bit eager, a bit eager??? there was a skid in the road that was over 10 meters long. He said he would report the incient, but i still see the same community support officers driving around in the patrol cars

If I were being attacked by someone I’d call the Offspring.

However, the point about this case is that the car was not only speeding but also not using the siren or the warning lights.

Oh, and it wasn’t a 999 call either.

All in all, not a good case to hang a ‘they were only doing their jobs’ plea on…

if i was being attacked by someone, please don’t call the police. I don’t need more jail

absolutely typical of policing in this day and age, they do as they please and when it goes wrong they flash thier badge around and pretend that nothing has gone wrong, this is just abusing the power that they have been given to protect others with…

    Gordon Says:

Ultimately, the speed of the car has little effect on how long the journey takes. Actually, congestion/traffic lights etc are the main hold ups on most city journeys. If anything, by driving more slowly with sirens, members of the public have more time to get out the way of the emergency services, fire engines take note. The police car in question didn’t even get to its final destination in this tragic case.

I also like how everyone uses the excuse that if someone is in immediate danger, shouldn’t the police be allowed to drive dangerously to get there. Well for a start, that just puts more people in danger and secondly, and there have been several high profile incidents of the police mowing down people at high speed, how often are the police actually responding to incidents where people are in immediate danger. Very rarely and certainly not in this case.

All police who drive fast and dangerously have blood on their hands as do those that allow them to do so.

    JuneJohnson Says:

Trained high speed police drivers are a completely different kettle of fish to the usual panda car driver going fast.
Anyone driving dangerously has blood on their hands, that includes drink and drugged drivers too, and underage joy riders. And those who fall asleep at the wheel.
In that case should they be chased in an attempt to catch/stop them, or should they be left to continue their dangerous way

    Cheshire Set Says:

It is a tragedy and a poor girl is dead BUT a couple of weeks ago some some brainless morons smashed their way into my house at 3am, frightening me and my son half to death to get my car keys and nick my car….I wanted them chased down and hopefully gunned down!

They have left both my son and I terrified of sleeping in the house and afraid to be on our own anywhere….

Sadly it is all very well sitting in judgement until we need the police to respond and then we expect them to do everything in their power to aprehend the blaggers

It seems they are damned if they do or dont……….

  17. 17
    bulldump Says:

i do not think they need to be travelling at speed in a built up area what with the high proliferation of cctv decorating our towns and cities.

saying that though, i can think of one successful incident involving the police driving at speed, Heather Mills

    now you are being picky…..

    chenier Says:

But I’m not saying that they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t, I’m pointing out that circumstances alter cases.

That’s why the Courts refuse to determine hypothetical situations; you can only judge what is reasonable in the light of all the circumstances.

And the circumstances in this case look pretty damning…

    Observer Says:

Just a further comment, as I’ve been researching and cross-checking:

    - many people are already sensing the cover-up is in full swing

    - Hayley’s sister, Sarah, is being made to fight for the truth to come out. As much as other people sympathise, it is her, and the rest of Hayley’s immediate family who have suffered the most, who are being punished most. Speaking about the police officer who killed Haley, who is on leave, and not in jail, she has said: “He should have been arrested. I don’t want him to get a soft sentence because he is a police officer. I don’t want this swept under the carpet.”

    - It is essential at this point that someone with contacts in the police PLEASE verify what information police car computers record. Having been the victim of a police set-up based upon dodgy scientific police evidence, I have strong reason to suspect that the vehicle does not record whether the headlights are on, and I think that this is key to nipping the cover-up in the bud, so that my fears are not realised.

    RIP Hayley

I think this is a cover up. Why has it taken 3 weeks to establish the black box wasn’t working? Surely they could have found that out in the first week of the investigation? I hope the policeman involved is sacked/asked to leave, loses his pension, and is prosecuted (which doesn’t look likely now). And so what if a 16 year old girl was out after 11pm at night? She could have been revising at a friends house for all we know. The fact is a young girl is dead, and the police are to blame. Simple as that…
