Madeleine McCann: Allison Pearson Demands And Fact Checking Kate And Gerry McCann
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
Madeleine McCann is retuned to the front pages.
DAILY MAIL (front page): “ALLISON PEARSON ON THE McCANNS… If the Portuguese police had a shred of decency they would now make a public apology to Kate and Gerry”
Page 5: “Now clear out names”
Before the Mail’s columnist can voice an opinion – and what is the case of Madeleine McCann but one of opinion upon opinion – time to go over the fact that has been established in 14 months of reporting (a child is missing) and hear the McCann plead their innocence.
Oh, there is one other fact: the “McCanns are “both 40”. Remember that.
PEARSON: “The Maddie detectives must now apologise”
Now it seems the spectacularly incompetent Inspector Cluesnos are ready to admit they have no evidence against the McCanns
Yeah, those hapless amateurs. If only the Portuguese wooden tops were more like the British tabloid hacks who root their maybes in Portuguese press reports and hunches. What of Robert Murat?
Now, thank heavens, the ordeal of the inquiry is nearing an end. Nothing can make up for the loss of Madeleine, but at least the family can continue their lives without the poisonous cloud of suspicion hanging over them. It’s the least they deserve.
Yes, an apology will remove any doubt. Bring in the PIs. It’ll be over by Christmas. Case closed.
THE SUN (front page): “AS COPS GIVE UP MADDIE HUNT, WE SAY.. NOW CLEAR McCANNS”
Pearson of the Mail demands it. Now the Sun demands it. Can the call be resisted?
Page 7: “Little Madeleine McCann’s parents last night faced the nightmare possibility that they could remain suspects FOREVER”
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell, who may have a job for life:
If the case closes, who will hunt for Madeleine? And if Kate and Gerry’s arguido suspect status isn’t removed they will live under a cloud of suspicion. That is both immoral and inhumane… There are people in Portugal who have been arguidos for decades
Page 8: “End the agony – The nightmare goes on for tormented Kate and Gerry McCann”
“But it is clear to the whole world that they are innocent of any sinister act against their precious little girl”
At least the Sun and its readers know the truth and will not point fingers.
DAILY MIRROR (page 7): “”Maddy case to close with out charges”
Case not closed yet.
The 426-day police investigation into the four-year-old’s case ended yesterday
Case Closed.
Says a source: “If the case is shut without charges being brought, they cannot be arguidos, suspects, any more”.
Tell that to Clarence Mitchell (see above).
What of the facts?
Gerry McCann, a heart specialist, is “39”. Gerry is also 39 in the Sun.
Such are the facts.
DAILY STAR (page 7): “CLEAR THEM”
So says Clarence Mitchell.
Readers learn that police want to “shelves the case”. It is not yet closed.
Kate and Gerry are “both 40”
DAILY EXPRESS: NO MADELEINE McCANN
Is she deemed no longer newsworthy by this esteemed organ? Or are there other reasons for her absence?

M and A (June)
Probably close them, but if it happens it will be from todays date.
personally I don’t it happening, the McC have used the media to serve their ends, and it was they who put Madeleine in the media. I think whoever is deciding this (if its being decided) will bear that in mind

I have just been advised that a Mr C Mitchell will be attending court this morning - extra sharp stilettos if you are still arranging your outfit Chenier!
Which means that no doubt there will be a press announcement on the steps of the High Court. Things could happen very fast, so keep your eyes peeled.

Do you think the amount of foreign interest in this case will have a bearing on the judgement, if this is what today is about (which I suspect you are right - sounds like a Team McC stunt to me).
Will the judge take into consideration the fact that they can not prevent foreign newspapers from publishing stories about them?
If they are granted their wishes then would all the old threads on anorak have to be removed?

Yes, I am serious.
I am digging into this as fast as I can, but you would all be well advised to remember that you are individually, along with Anorak, liable for your postings on here.
If this is a contra mundum order which is being applied for - then it would be contempt of court to say anything prohibited by the court, not just a matter of libel or defamation. A very serious offence.
We will be keeping an eye on the situation - and if you are advised to say nothing - then say nothing! Contempt of court is the fastest route known to mankind to incarceration at HM pleasure.
The danger on Anorak will be that of course the UK courts cannot gag the foreign press, so there will still be material available on the net which is outside the remit of the UK court. If that material is cut and pasted onto Anorak, then it will be within the remit of the HIgh Court. Whatever the merits of the McCann case, the High Court will take any contempt of court very, very, seriously.
You (and Anorak) are not, repeat not, outside the remit of the UK court.
July 7th, 2008 at 7:10 am
carmen
you’re not serious???
So just as we might start to get some information - the McC’s might (sucessfully) try and stop it being published.
How would that happen re: foreign news outlets? and would we be able to comment on it on anorak?

The Sun (I know, I know!)
THE mum of missing Madeleine McCann has made a tearful call to a holidaymaker who reported a man acting suspiciously before her daughter disappeared.
Paul Gordon, 32, said a “creepy” man asked him for cash when he was staying in Praia da Luz, Portugal, last year.
The man approached him when he was renting the flat from where Madeleine, then three, was snatched the next week.
Kate McCann, 40, begged him to give his evidence to the Spanish private investigators probing the case for her.
But the brewery manager, of Fareham, Hants, said no as he had already spoken to police.
Portuguese cops have refused to release Mr Gordon’s e-fit of the man, saying it may prejudice a future court case.
Meanwhile lawyers for Kate and husband Gerry, 39, of Rothley, Leics, will try to force British cops to release their information on Maddie at London’s High Court today.

“But the brewery manager, of Fareham, Hants, said no as he had already spoken to police”.
Just as well this did all happen in Portugal - this would be interfering with a potential crown witness in the UK.

Morning Chenier
I you are tripping the light fantastic down the road this morning, you might want to pull up this case first….Scott QC is listed leading for McCann today.
Abdullah Masry v Mona Al Khatib, High Court Family Division, Sumner J (led by Timothy Scott QC) – successful application for an injunction restraining the press generally from publishing stories about the parties and their children (contra mundum order) – application of the court’s jurisdiction in wardship;

I always think of Gandolf as being like one of the old gits out of ‘Chewin the Fat’ but I wonder if he has black walls and a purple crushed velvet throw on his sofa. Maybe he wears t-shirts.

The software has pulled this comment into Mod queue because you have entered new user name (first name + surname?) which doesn’t match any currently held in the database. I would strongly advise you NOT to use your full name when posting on ANY Forum.
I have deleted your surname from this post before releasing it.

Why would I find that which I do not need child, the dark of the velvet rimmed night is no place for one such as you, there is evil stalking this earth, its diet is the unworldly and those who would be old before their years, beware the shadows of the acolytes of dark Brastandry, the widowmaker is riding the plains of Grendornor, tonight in the shadow of the Scorpion valley, Gandolf will vanquish that evil with the power of will and the Staff of the Light of the Ancients, tread warily child for the shadows are no friend of the righteous.
